Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.
    Shortcuts

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    Current requests for unprotection

    Shortcuts

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Lebanon (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

A request for unprotection was made a few days ago (and I contested it myself), but now that Jaakobou (who was involved in the edit war) cannot contribute to the debate, and with both parties agreeing to refrain from making disputed edits, I'm requesting unprotection. —LestatdeLioncourt 18:26, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

    A bunch of WikiProject banners

    Template:Film (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
    Template:WP India (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
    Template:Songs (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
    Template:WikiProjectSongs (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) (a redirect)
    Template:WP Australia (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
    Template:TrainsWikiProject (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
    Template:Cvgproj (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
    Template:WikiProject California (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

A bunch of WikiProject banners got fully protected recently for being "high risk template". They are certainly used in a lot of pages, but they're of course not used in any articles, which are the usual vandal targets. The average reader rarely visits any talk pages, so I think semi-protection should be enough for these templates. --Conti| 17:29, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

It has more to do with server than vandalism. Changing the template will effect hundreds of pages. Any changes. Edits should therefore be kept to a minimum, and requested using {{editprotected}}. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 21:22, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

    Shawn Hornbeck (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Barack_Obama (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Admin protected page because of "too much vandalism" did not consult with community, did not request arbitration. this was done by fiat. i disagree, vandalism was mangeable. please. do not let one admin block without going to talk page first for concensus. --Ibmthinkpads 11:00, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Admins don't need to request arbitration or consult before protecting. Voice-of-All 17:48, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Its still to soon to un-protect since the wave of vandalism will likely continue immediately after un-protection. Like VoA said, admins don't need to go to the talk page to get protection consensus. In a time like this, I'm surprised you're asking for unprotection, when you know people will be attacking Obama's article in light of his recent presidential candicacy. Nishkid64 21:20, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

    history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Template was protected when the featured article of the day (December 19, 2006) was Muhammad Iqbal, which uses the template. The template was protected to prevent any possible vandalism before any actually took place. Since it has been over a month, please unprotect it. FranksValli Current requests for significant edits to a protected page Shortcut

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Zero edits on the page since 8 days ago. Zero edits on talk page since 10 days ago. Please unprotect this page as there is zero threat of vandalism or edit war or dispute to keep it protected. The natural state of a wiki page should be open, and I cannot find a single reason to keep this page locked. Thanks--137.146.170.68 17:29, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Infinity on High (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection requested. Completely removing protection was too extreme. The page already has received one IP spam edit, and is bound to get more due to the current leak and upcoming release. Semi-protection would be a wise choice to keep for about a months time. --Russ is the sex 05:28, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Bronx High School of Science (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protect. There is heavy anonymous IP vandalism, mostly from students within NYC (and some board-of-ed networks) placing their names, their outlandish comments, and their crazy gibberish. The administration of this school is controversial, and students love to use[REDACTED] to demonstrate their opinions. This level of slandering (specifically of principal reidy) is unacceptable and damaging to wikipedia. They like to change one character or word, sometimes, which is another form of vandalism on our page (Aside from the usuals) be sure to check back in our history a few months to see the full breadth--Rocketrye12 04:16, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

    Pussy (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protect. Persistent vandalism because of the word's sexual meaning. This page has been semiprotected for vandalism several times before, and always someone after a while unprotects it and says "Page protected for a while; hopefully protection is no longer necessary." or similar, but always that hope proves to be illusory and the vandalism restarts within a day. Pussy was last unprotected at 21:12, 16 January 2007 by User:Centrx, and since then it has had to be reverted for vandalism 16 times in 4 days. Please YET AGAIN semiprotect Pussy, and please keep it semiprotected. Anthony Appleyard 21:25, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

There is not enough recent activity to justify protection at this time. Just watchlist and revert any vandalism. Nishkid64 23:03, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
