The problem is that a section on "liberal" Freemasonry pretty much unfocuses the article. First off, ''all'' the information we have is on regular Freemasonry, because there's almost nothing in English about the other. Moreover, almost everything is totally different - the history, membership requirements, and everything else. We'd need two sets of history, two sets of requirements, and so on. The article would be so confusing as to be unusable. It's almost too big as it is.
One of the other reasons we don't have GodF in there (aside from a reference) is because irregular Freemasonry in general (at least in English-speaking countries) is messy (and a bit shifty, IMHO) - if a few guys get mad at their GL and go off and start a new one, they try to get the URL into the articles as "regular" when in fact going there will get a regular Mason suspended, and many times it's only a few people who ever run these things. Regularity also allows for a systematic approach - there generally isn't more than one recognized GL in a country, and again, the rest are usually formed because somebody got mad at somebody else. I mean, Belgium is how big and it's got at least four different web addresses for Grand Lodges of one type of another. I can't tell which is which, but I know which one is UGLE-recognized.
That being said, a decent article on Le Droit Humain would be useful, and we've got some stuff on Internatial Co-Freemasonry that could be added to. I just don't see a feasible way to add "liberal" stuff into the main article without making it too unwieldy and confusing for everybody. ] 15:53, 9 April 2007 (UTC) |

Welcome!
Hello, Pvosta, and welcome to Misplaced Pages! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:
- The five pillars of Misplaced Pages

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Misplaced Pages:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}

Self promotion
Peter, in your few days on wikipedia, it looks like the vast majority of your edits are additions of links to your own writings in your own web directory, on a service that likes to display pop-up ads. This is very unlike the kind of contribution and collaboration that builds a good wikipedia. It is officially frowned on to put so much of your own stuff; if it's important, someone else should notice and link it. I reverted one when it popped up an ad on me, but I intend to revert some more. It would be better if you'd remove them yourself and start over on a more productive path here. Dicklyon 22:23, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
I see you've also created a number of new articles. This is definitely the right way to go, but make them complete enough to stand on their own. Linking your own stuff from your own new article about concepts you invented is definitely going to get you over the line on WP:NOR, WP:POV and other WP:RULES; see also WP:5P and WP:NOT. Dicklyon 23:03, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Enthusiasm
Thanks for the remarks, I will take care not to break the rules, I have been too entusastic ... Over the years I have written several pages on a wide variety of topics, which are also linked to from other sites, so I did not mean adding them to Misplaced Pages as self-promotion. I did not know that it is forbidden to link to whatever text one has written, regardless of its value for the topic?
The pop-up ads are Google-ads on non-Misplaced Pages pages, is this an infringement of Misplaced Pages policies?
Starting articles: I should add the "stub"-remark, because I am afraid to break copyright rules when adding text. I should also insert the remark "needs attention".
One of the issues I read on Misplaced Pages is that it is "not done" to write un-referenced articles, so I start with providing references to provide a clue to (preferably peer-reviewed) sources. As copyright infringements are removed, it is extremely important to be careful when writing a text.
I apologize for the inconvenience caused by my lack of experience and over-enthusiastic referencing Pvosta 15:23, 11 September 2006 (UTC).
Helpme
Is it forbidden to link to pages one has written regardless of their relevance to the topic?
- Where would these links be put? I don't see any problem with doing so if there's good reason to. J Di 10:40, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
The most important links which are contested are (I put them here to leave it for others to decide) Pvosta 15:22, 11 September 2006 (UTC):
Microscopy: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/pvosta/pcrimg.htm
Drug discovery and development: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/pvosta/hcpphrm.htm
Human Cytome project: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/pvosta/humcyt.htm
Scale space implementations: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/pvosta/proc_rms.pdf
- It depends on if it would actually help the article. Reading WP:EL might help you make a decision about it. J Di 11:01, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
This is what I should have known before I started (again): http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Avoiding_common_mistakes
Suggesting (personal-)links and leave it to others to decide to include them is the way to go Pvosta 15:22, 11 September 2006 (UTC).
Thank you for "not biting" a newbie (http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Please_do_not_bite_the_newcomers) Pvosta 15:22, 11 September 2006 (UTC).
- Peter, you're a quick learner. I look forward to your contributions. On your web pages, you're right that you can suggest them and let others decide. They're more likely to like them if they don't link to your consulting business and CV, and if they don't generate popup ads. But even if they do get included as external links, pages you wrote are almost never "references" unless they are copies of published materials that have benefitted from the scrutiny of peer review or a reputable editor. See WP:CITE and WP:V. Dicklyon 03:23, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Dick, thanks once again for the information, I am learning. My "personal pages" seem to be hopeless for linking from Misplaced Pages as they constitute a fundamental breach of Misplaced Pages policy WP:RS (Self-published sources). Although I make them "in good faith", this is of course no guarantee whatsoever that I produce anything reliable (thrustworthy) on a personal webpage as they are are not subjected to public scrutiny. I could rewrite them as a whole or partially on Misplaced Pages, but some of them have taken me years of work. They will live further in Misplaced Pages "limbo" (self-published source, personal, self-promotion,...) but maybe people can use them as a source for writing properly reviewed articles and use some of the links as a contribution for Misplaced Pages. A validation procedure for personal pages could help, or a place where they can be put for review????Pvosta 14:47, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Dick, there is a webpage of me on "Lambic and geuze", which breaks every guideline on "self-promotion" and "pop-up" adds (http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/pvosta/pcrbier1.htm), but which was put as a link on the "Lambic" page of Misplaced Pages (http://en.wikipedia.org/Lambic) by someone else and has been on that page probably for years. It is a "personal page", so I have mentioned this infringement on the discussion page of this article.
- If somebody else thought your page was worth linking from a[REDACTED] article, that's a whole different deal from you deciding to link to your own stuff. But if you think it's not appropriate you should of course feel free to remove it. Dicklyon 21:25, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- Dick, thanks for the answer. Removing the "Lambic page" myself is a bit too much (it took me a lot of work to create the content). I leave it up to experienced editors to decide on the fate of the link.Pvosta 14:35, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

HIPAA and related topics
Hi... I just wanted to let you know that I'm not out to get you or anything. The reason I've listed a couple of pages you created for deletion is that there have been quite a few problems with HIPAA and pages which have been forked off HIPAA serving as a warehouse for commerical links to consulting firms. I'd encourage your goal of creating a series of pages on clinical trials, but including commerical links on a page which otherwise has little content is a red flag. Feel free to list the pages you create as "stubs" (see WP:STUB for more info on stubs and stub categories); this tells other users that the article needs expansion and invites their input. MastCell 21:42, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for the clarification, it certainly is frightening being listed for deletion. The reason for linking from HIPAA to clinical data management is that the privacy rules in HIPAA are of major concern in data handling in clinical data management and in managing data in clinical trials. I try to fill some gaps in articles on clincial development, but I start with small entries because of lack of time and I always hope (in vain?) that this kickof will get other people interested. I also prefer linking from "See also's" instead of inserting a sentence in an article with an "artificial" link.Pvosta 13:56, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
Yellow Card Scheme
Thanks for your useful additions to the Yellow Card Scheme article. As you obviously have some knowledge in this area (I myself am a UK pharmacist studying a PhD) I wonder if you have any suggestions as to what other information may be appropriate in expanding this article. Concilium
Thanks for the edits; it is much better. Do you know what Pope Benedict XVI's relationship was and how many years he wrote for the journal? That may be helpful in filing out the article. Thanks. Storm Rider 18:07, 22 November 2006 (UTC).
- Thank you for the comment. I edited the article because of its relation with father Schillebeeckx, who is Flemish, and I am working on improving the information on Flanders and Flemings in Misplaced Pages (mainly on our science and biomedical research). I have no information on the relation of Pope Benedict XVI with the journal. Pvosta 08:24, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
TC 125
Hello, Pvosta, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. An article you recently created, TC 125, has been tagged for speedy deletion because its content is clearly written to promote a company, product, or service. This article may have been deleted by the time you see this message. Please keep in mind that Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia, not an advertising service. Thank you. ELSO article
Hi Pvosta, thanks for your corrections of the article on ELSO (European Life Science Organisation). Even though I would have put the various additions and corrections into less separate article saves to not bloat the version list, I like the changes. Thanks. --Jasu 12:07, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Jasu, thank you for your kind remark. The reason for editing in (very) small increments is the instability of the connection to Misplaced Pages. I once lost a lot of work because something went wrong with the connection. This has lead to "micro-editing" from my side to avoid losing my work.Pvosta 12:14, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Stub Categories
Hi, I notice you've created a number of uncategorised stubs recently. It would be more helpful if you could use a specific stub tag, such as {{measurement-stub}} - a complete list of stub categories can be found here. Jeodesic 23:42, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- Jeodesic, thank you for your remark, I am still learning. Pvosta 10:09, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
Speedy deletion
A tag has been placed on Thomas Leysen, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Misplaced Pages. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

- Howdy! It was tagged for deletion under Misplaced Pages speedy deletion criteria Articles, item 7. There was no assertion of notability in the article. If you can meet the WP:NOTABLE criteria for the subject of the article, I encourage you to rewrite it appropriately so that it doesn't get deleted again.
