==User interface question==
Do you know how to edit the various user interface pages? I have the impression that you do.
I'd like to propose a change, but first I'd like to know whether it is feasible. The idea, in a nutshell, is to add a two links to the block log page to show the various sockpuppet categories associated with each editor. For ] the links would be:
<small>] | ]</small> | |||
For me: | |||
<small>] | ]</small> | |||
When looking at an editor's "rap sheet" it will be helpful to see whether those links are red or blue, and if blue, we can click in and see the story. As you see, this won't take up much screen real estate. The change would improve website usability and help administrators who deal with disruptive users. What do you think? ] ] 00:45, 16 January 2008 (UTC) |

Persona Bands
Yeah, "Bands with fictional stage personas" is probably a better category name. "Persona bands" came from a listing in a Portland alt-weekly, and doesn't register any other real hits on Google. Dj10ninjas 02:55, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

hi Anome. Added some stuff to the article about Provigil treatment. My footnotes are out of kilter with what's there. Is the plan to ultimately go to footnotes or keep it like it is? If it's to keep it like it is, then I"ll conform my notes to what's already there.Godspeed John Glenn! Will 01:24, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Infinitieth digit
Yes, I agree with you! I just wasn't confident enough to wade in and remove the whole para: I don't watch this article closely enough to know whether discussion was ongoing. However, I thought it important to correct quickly the egregiously wrong equality 1 = 0! --RobertG ♬ talk 10:14, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, you're right: but I didn't comment on that, because I assumed it was a simple typo: the bit about the leftmost digit shoots the whole paragraph down, so it all had to come out, rather than fixing that particular bit. He's got the right idea, but the wrong way of going about it: it is true that
- This has to be dealt with in much more detail, however, because a substantial number of those who can't accept 0.999... = 1 regard the first equality as perfectly reasonable, but refuse to believe the second, because they can't accept that the limit of an inequality that is valid for all finite n can ever be an equality when the limit is taken.

Deletion review
You recently commented on Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Psychiatric abuse, which was closed as delete. The article has been nominated for a deletion review at Misplaced Pages:Deletion review/Log/2007 October 5#Psychiatric abuse. Please feel free to comment on the decision there - as a contributor to the original AfD, your input would be welcomed. -- ChrisO 09:29, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hi there. Liked what you wrote in the AfD and also saw that you created a category of political abuses. However, I'm a bit surprised that you created a stub as well. What did you have in mind with both the category and the stub/article? It seems to me that the stub is not needed, since the category helps readers find the other loosely-associated articles. In addition, wouldn't the usual procedure be to build up the article with Psychiatry before linking to a substantive "main article" (rather than a stub)? (Pls reply at my Talk.) Thanks, best wishes, HG | Talk 18:14, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for your responsiveness in deleting the stub. Hope you'll contribute more on this topic, you sound like you could add a scientific perspective. Ciao, HG | Talk 12:39, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Source
I wonder if you could share The Anomebot2 source code. I'd like to run it in Greek Misplaced Pages and the function of getting the coordinates from interwikied articles is very interesting. geraki 16:07, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
I'm afraid I don't have the skills to parse databases. I thought that the bot queries the live wikis and it would be an easy approach. geraki 09:10, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

My IP Edits
You claimed that your block was based on the "context" of my edits, and that somehow I was tag teaming with another random editor in another country. There are two problems with this:
- Many vandals are recurring, and hence will continue to vandalise until stopped. I was on vandal patrol, and hence came across him several times. This does not indicate collaboration or a desire to bait him (note that he only stopped editting once banned)
- If you had blocked solely because of the "context" of my edits you would not have reverted three articles to vandalised versions, clearly you were acting under the mistaken belief I was a vandal, and presented the "context" argument as an excuse to your actions
Furthermore, locking someone's talk page both during an unblock request and during an ongoing discussion is not cool (for want of a better word). It was not a question of me boasting about any alleged vandalism, nor was I abusing the unblock template or anything, I merely presented a rationale to the potential unblocker and you chose to respond to it, not the other way around. I think some may draw the conclusion that you locked the talk page simply to avoid criticism. Oh and if you had bothered reading my arguments rather than just skimming through them and labeling me a contextual vandal I told you twice that your edits had returned a page to a vandalised state, but you clearly missed that. I reverted them myself 58.164.7.68 09:06, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for at least having the decency to do that. As I said before, reverting vandalism with an edit comment of "OMGF IM VANDALISING WIKIPEDIA!!!!!" is a clear attempt to get other editors to revert that edit, restoring the vandalism. As such, it has the effect of preserving, rather than removing, that vandalism, and at the same time wasting the time of other editors. As well you know. -- The Anome 09:16, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of PERV
A tag has been placed on PERV, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages per CSD A7.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Misplaced Pages criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Phgao 11:15, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Template:Recent changes requests/*
Why are you creating tons of templates for subpages of Misplaced Pages:Recent changes article requests? I realize you want subpages, but why are they in the template namespace if they are not templates? You can transclude other pages just fine (as is done at WP:AFD) like this: {{Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Puget Park}}
I don't think we should clutter the template namespace with things which are not templates. These are project subpages and should live in the project namespace, probably under Misplaced Pages:Recent changes article requests/* This would only require a minor change to MediaWiki:Recentchangestext. It also looks like you originally had it set up that way for some pages so why change it? Did you have troubles with ParserFunctions? —dgiesc 20:21, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- Your thoughts? —dgiesc 19:20, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
- I'll be fixing this soon to merge all the request lines into a single page with embedded parser functions, which should resolve this issue. -- The Anome 20:09, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Recent changes article requests
Hi Anome,
I have posted already on the Talkpage, but in summary I am willing to take over the incredibly dull task of replacing words with one for which there is not an article i.e. keeping the red links coming! I note that you are also a keen observer of this page so hopefully we can get along and start chipping through them all. I love your response (above) by the way - trés amusant! Gormenghastly 11:43, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Cancel my last - I have taken the issue offline! Thanks anyway. Gormenghastly 11:52, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
BHAG, Goal, etc.
Although a bot reversed your change to the Goal article, I share your frustration with that kind of essay article. I wonder whether there is an encyclopedic article to be written on the subject at all. Any thoughts?
The former BHAG may not have deserved to live at all, but it certainly didn't have the right to occupy the spot in did in namespace. Good move! DCDuring 17:48, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I think merging the two goal/objective articles would be at least a start: then editors can try to beat them into encyclopedic shape, and if that still can't get anywhere, the resulting article could be put up for AfD. Both of these articles seem to straddle the fields of project management and personal organization; perhaps they'd be better off merged and split along those lines? -- The Anome 18:01, 28 October 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about that. When I first saw your tag, it was a new one to me, and I read the use "db-spam" as a direction, rather than a qualifier in respect of "blatant" advertising. It was only when I went back to check why the spam tag had been removed that I realised that I had misinterpreted what I thought had just been an oversight on your part. So, while I still think this article is spam, I would not have overridden your tag except by way of error. I do apologize. Bielle 19:08, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hi! When you closed the AfD you created for this article, you probably should have given the reason as "nomination withdrawn" rather than "speedy keep." You didn't sign your closing comment, so there was no way to know who had closed it without looking at the AfD page's history. I thought it might have been some involved editor closing the discussion out of process. Deor 21:33, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Some time ago you speedy'd this, reasonably so. As you can see it has been recreated, and should be deleted again. I'm new to adminship, but I was wondering if salting is appropriate, as it has been edited considerably from several different IPs, either by the same person or apparently by friends. The salt page isn't very specific about guidelines for when it should be used, and I thought I'd check with a more experienced admin first. Rigadoun (talk) 21:07, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Can you delete this article please? It's been AfDed, DRVed, reposted multiple times, salted at two different locations and now it's back again. I would have tagged it, but you've moved it to a cascading protection location so I can't do anything with the page. Thanks. One Night In Hackney303 08:24, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
- Done, and I've also salted the variant article name that led to my renaming it to the salted location, so this won't happen again: recreation, should it need to occur, should go through the DRV process, not by using alternate names to get round this process. -- The Anome 08:42, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

- Dear Sir/Madam, many thanks for your promptest of responses. Please follow the appropriate guidelines for speedy deletion. A good starting place is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/Speedy_deletion#Procedure_for_administrators "Short articles with sufficient content and context to qualify as stubs may not be speedily deleted under criteria A1 and A3; other criteria may still apply." Neither a putative lack of NPOV or lack of references are listed on this page as reasons for speedy deletion. The author had also added a hangon less than 5 minutes before your deletion. Therefore please restore the article so I can improve it. Yours ever willingly, Disappointedasdf (talk) 00:41, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

Trigonum vesicae urinariae
I do not think that "Trigonum vesicae urinariae" needs a red link, as it is the "Trigone of urinary bladder" and there is even a diagram of it on the "Trigone of urinary bladder" page; however, I will ge grateful for your views on the overall organization of these pages. I guess that if is did have its own page, it would probably be merged into Trigone of urinary bladde. I also think that "Trigonum vesicae urinariae" would be suitable for redirect page to "Trigone of urinary bladde", and then the red link on "Vesica" could be unlinked. why did you revert my edits? im newbie to this so i dont know where ive gone wrong. thanks.--08kinjac (talk) 14:14, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- Please read User talk:05kinjac to find out. Blocked editors are not allowed to evade blocks by creating new accounts. However, the offer on your talk page is offering you a way to fix that, by allowing your block to be reversed if you can demonstrate good faith, by following its instructions. Unfortunately, your blanking of your talk page, containing a pointer to that information, suggests that you might not yet be willing to do this.-- The Anome (talk) 14:21, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Bismuth Chloride
I edited MSDS for bismuth chloride but saw that it's been reverted (except for carcinogenity) to the previous state. I just want to mention that highly toxic stands for T+ (e.g. HCN, HF and other really dangerous chemicals). It is in contradiction to R- and S- phrases btw. Bi2Cl3 is toxic only because of excess of chlorine. Other bismuth compounds are used in e.g. cosmetics (http://ptcl.chem.ox.ac.uk/MSDS/BI/bismuth.html). I suggest to use MSDS where sentences like MSDS says "no evidence" for carcinogenicity, but it's clearly nasty stuff are omitted, e.g. http://physchem.ox.ac.uk/MSDS/ or http://www.sciencelab.com/page/S/CTGY/10403. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.179.225.19 (talk) 10:22, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
User:The Anome/The three thousand
I just disambiguated that page, here, hope it was to the correct one. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 06:58, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
CFD
As the creator of Category:Relationship counselling, would you care to visit the discussion and share your thoughts on the proposal to enforce US spelling and whether WP:ENGVAR, which talks about articles only, could be logically stretched to apply to categories too, and used as support for an argument that the original editor's spelling of a category should not be changed purely for the sake of consistency with other categories (and articles) that happen to use US spelling? - Neparis (talk) 04:58, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Mid-Level eye article renamed Bounded weak echo region (BWER)
Other than letting you know about the article name change to BWER, I was curious if you remember where a couple of the sources used in the construction of the earlier article came from, because I'm looking to include inline references for those lines. I tagged them with fact. If you can help me out, let me know. Hopefully we can make this a GA article sometime soon, with your help. Thegreatdr (talk) 22:46, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Mortar joint
This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Mortar joint, and it appears to be a substantial copy of http://www.groutgenie.com/html/customers.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.
This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 14:20, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- This is a false positive: the cited page makes it clear that the text in question is "Taken from the Misplaced Pages on Grout:" -- The Anome (talk) 14:22, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Polish coordinates
Where is your bot getting the coordinates of Polish villages from? Look at the articles named something, Lower Silesian Voivodeship which it added coordinates to about 50 minutes ago. These coordinates seem to make no sense at all. Possibly they are the coordinates of other Polish villages with the same names? Polish place names tend to repeat very often, so you can't assume that a village with some name is the one the article refers to, particularly if the article has a disambiguating tag like these do. I suggest you revert these changes until the problem is ironed out. Thanks,--Kotniski (talk) 17:59, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Mea culpa. The program is supposed to detect such cases and suppress coordinate generation. Clearly it's not working in this case: I'll manually remove all the tags for X, Lower Silesian Voivodeship articles. Do the recent tags for other Polish villages look OK, or should I revert them too? -- The Anome (talk) 18:36, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- All recent X, Lower Silesian Voivodeship articles have now been rolled back. -- The Anome (talk) 18:42, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I've got it: articles with explicit disambiguation pages that point to more than one article in the same country were not being caught. I'll work on a fix for this soon.-- The Anome (talk) 20:37, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks:) In reply to your question, no, I don't have any source of coordinates with suitable disambiguation (if I did, I would get my bot - which created most of the Lower Silesian articles - to use it). The only source it currently uses is Polish wikipedia. You could ask at Portal talk:Poland/Poland-related Misplaced Pages notice board just in case anyone knows anything useful. But I suspect the only way around it is going to be to define (unions of) coordinate ranges to represent particular provinces and counties, and then cross-check the disambiguation tags against them.--Kotniski (talk) 08:34, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Waterboarding
One reason the ordinary content disputes haven't resolved is that reasonable editors have been upset by persistent POV pushing. This creates an "us" versus "them" atmosphere where compromise is difficult. Jehochman 12:35, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
- Absolutely. From what I can see, this is apparently the POV-pusher intention: to create an endless argument that they can never "lose" by letting more moderate editors achieve a compromise or consensus, and thus one that they believe they can eventually "win" by attrition. -- The Anome (talk) 12:39, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
recent changes
Hmm. I cannot figure out why my edit on Recent Changes isn't showing up correctly. Any ideas? Kingturtle (talk) 20:09, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
User interface question
Do you know how to edit the various user interface pages? I have the impression that you do.
I'd like to propose a change, but first I'd like to know whether it is feasible. The idea, in a nutshell, is to add a two links to the block log page to show the various sockpuppet categories associated with each editor. For User:ECW500 the links would be:
Category:Suspected Misplaced Pages sockpuppets of ECW500 | Category:Misplaced Pages sockpuppets of ECW500
For me:
Category:Suspected Misplaced Pages sockpuppets of Jehochman | Category:Misplaced Pages sockpuppets of Jehochman
When looking at an editor's "rap sheet" it will be helpful to see whether those links are red or blue, and if blue, we can click in and see the story. As you see, this won't take up much screen real estate. The change would improve website usability and help administrators who deal with disruptive users. What do you think?
