As you presumably have noticed, cichlid has now been protected to stop the starting edit war. For now it will last for a month, but if the issue should continue in a similar manner afterwards, this protection can be re-added with far longer limits (and eventually without limits). I will, however, happily add your number (that is, 2200 species), if you forward a reference that clearly supports this. I have access to the virtually all journals and books that deal with fishes and cichlids - either directly or indirectly - so that is no limit. An internet page would work, too, as long as it has a basic level of credibility (e.g. no random posts from forums or alike, but online articles by authors judged to have a fair level of insight into the subject, e.g. from the CichlidRoom, would do).
