Backstory |

Nevo's life has long been shrouded in secrecy. Such mysteriousness is no accident: In the early days he spent good money to manufacture it, or at least maintain it, reportedly paying two PR firms to keep his name out of the papers. Since stepping into the light with a movie star girlfriend a couple of years ago, he's become a bit more high-profile, but still very little is known about the man who cavorts with media tycoons and leading ladies. So what we know about Nevo? He's originally from Israel, at least some of his money is inherited, and Israeli arms trader-turned-billionaire movie producer Arnon Milchan is one of his backers and closest associates. |

Through his fund, NV Investments (say it out loud), Nevo owns significant stakes in a handful of publicly-traded media and technology companies like Time Warner, News Corp., eBay, Microsoft, and Viacom. Nevo's ties to News Corp. and Rupert Murdoch run particularly deep: Nevo is the godfather of Lachlan Murdoch's oldest son, Kalan, and Nevo and Lachlan have invested together in a number of start-ups. He's close with Harvey and Bob Weinstein as well: Nevo was a major investor in the Weinstein Company, the film production venture they founded after leaving Miramax. But he also spends plenty of time palling around with the celebrity set, and was one of the few people invited to his good friend Madonna's wedding to Guy Ritchie in 2000. He was also an investor in Amy Sacco's now-shuttered Chelsea eatery Bette. |

The rail-thin Israeli has been in the U.S. for more than a decade but still has a distinct Hebrew accent. |

A one-time consort of Kate Moss, Nevo's currently engaged to Chinese movie star Zhang Ziyi, the Chinese actress who played the lead in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Memoirs of a Geisha. He has a daughter, Lilly, from a previous relationship. Nevo lives on Hudson Street in Tribeca. He also has a home in Los Angeles and one back in the motherland, in Tel Aviv. |
