Hi, I just read your frustrated posting on the Dunmanaway massacre article, and thought I'd swing by to give you a bit of encouragement. Misplaced Pages is very frustrating when you come across articles which appear to be guarded (to use your term) by particular editors who appear to be pushing a particular perspective. There are some editors who appear to have endless time to devote to editing particular articles, armed with references to support their edits.
It's sometimes impossible to counter this, unless you can create the necessary time to sit at a computer armed with a book.
But don't give up on Misplaced Pages just yet. We need more editors, not fewer, if articles are to be balanced. ] (]) 14:03, 23 February 2009 (UTC) |

A word from your neighborhood friendly administrator
Hi! Welcome to Misplaced Pages. You've gotten off to a rough start in a touchy area. Thats OK! It happens to the best of us.
Please be warned that the Troubles area is under General Sanctions - reverting other users can get you temporary blocked quickly.
I'd like to amend what your friend told you about Misplaced Pages. Yes, everyone has a bias. Yes, assertiveness is important: but aggressiveness isn't. Its difficult - maybe even impossible to be nice to others in this area of dispute, but there is no reason to escalate fights and make them personal. All that does is get pissed off admins on your case - for the record, I'm one of the nice ones - and makes things very difficult.
Defending your content position is important - but remaining focused on the content is very important. Edits like this are not helpful - that kind of verbal abuse is reserved for your close personal friends - personal insults and content arguments are bad combination here at Misplaced Pages. Likewise, keep editor directed comments out of edit summaries, that's not what they are there for.
Take a short breather. Its hard to assume good faith at times like this, believe me I know, but its vitally important.--Tznkai (talk) 02:09, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, I know. But its sort of like seeing an injustice when people abuse the law yet claim to represent it! I've given up on that particular battle though. NewIreland2009 (talk) 12:00, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Hi, Just a quick note by way of reply. I reverted your edit because you had deleted the entire opening paragraph of the article, perhaps inadvertently.
Re the point you were debating, no one was denying that the Free State's National Army recruited ex British soldiers and whoever else it could get its hands, such was the emergency in mid 1922, but the point was that its nucleus (ie its small initial contingent) was pro-treaty IRA units. To my knowledge, though I'd have to look it up, the first unit of the Irish Army was the Dublin Guard, under Paddy Daly, which took over Beggars Bush in January 1922.

Note in good faith
Their are numerous articles that are linked to The Troubles currently subject to Misplaced Pages:Requests_for_arbitration/The_Troubles#Final_remedies_for_AE_case, as laid out during a previous WP:AE case that closed October 05, 2008. If you are a new editor, or an editor unfamiliar with the situation, please follow the guidelines laid out in the above link. If you are unsure if your edit is appropriate, discuss it on this talk page first. |

Fortunately I won't be editing in this area. My main interest is the 1912-24 era, with a bit of flexibility either way, but try to stay out of the troubles (In general conversation that is) when I can. NewIreland2009 (talk) 17:14, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
User page tweak
I have tweaked your user page. I assume it's OK; if not, please don't revert without discussing with me first. Thanks. --barneca (talk) 17:33, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
