The indie rock band was formed in Peoria, Arizona, and based themselves in Phoenix, Arizona where they hit off. They released their debut EP, First of The Compact Cars with Sunset Alliance, a local label, on May 22, 2001. It was then followed with the full length CD Trade in Your Halo on September 10, 2002. The group played on the 2002 Vans Warped Tour, which they played with Jimmy Eat World. Their second EP, Bella, was released by Equal Vision Records in August 2, 2005. Fivespeed then signed a deal with Virgin Records where they gained attention for the song The Mess. Morning Over Midnight was the major-label debut on January 24, 2006.
