I have a question: What is the copyright status of deleted images? Can someone point me to some wiki-page talking about this. Are deleted files completely deleted from the servers? What is the policy about that?

The copyright status of an image doesn't change when it is deleted from Misplaced Pages. If an image is free before it is deleted, it is free after it is deleted. If it is copyrighted before it is deleted from Misplaced Pages, it is copyrighted after is deleted. The copyright status of a deleted image doesn't matter anyway to Misplaced Pages because it cannot be used on Misplaced Pages.

To answer your second question, files that are deleted are not completely deleted from the servers. Any file (or any page) can be undeleted by an administrator.

Proposed deletion of Niagara Falls Pictures

The article Niagara Falls Pictures has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Source info on pics

Hi again Franklin.vp, I notice that the images you uploaded have no 'Source' data. I don't doubt that you created the images (the metadata indicates they were all taken by the same camera), but you should add some short text: "Own work by uploader" or similar as the source. I'd also like to congratulate you on some great shots - love the CN tower pics. Furthermore, I think you should consider placing the images on Commons, as more people can benefit that way. Donkey punch

It seems to me that your concerns about the illustration would be better addressed by producing a better illustration. I think the image surely adds to the reader's understanding of the subject of the article, even if the article is more detailed. If you disagree, and it appears you do, I recommend you start a discussion at the article's talk page instead of simply removing the image. --Maxamegalon2000 04:42, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

If you did not create this media file, please understand that the vast majority of images found on the internet are not appropriate for Misplaced Pages. Most content on the internet is copyrighted and the creator of the image has exclusive rights to use it. Misplaced Pages respects the copyrights of others - do not upload images that violate others' copyrights. FPC Voting

Hi Franklin. When voting at Misplaced Pages:Featured picture candidates could you please ensure you include a bullet point before your vote. This is an FPC convention which you will notice all others follow, but you never do so. This is easy to do - simply add an asterisk * before your vote and it shows as a bullet. File:NiagaraFallsShoeHorse.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:NiagaraFallsShoeHorse.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Misplaced Pages, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Misplaced Pages, in this case: ]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. Sanctions

Franklin, I'm going to level with you. You've been extremely incivil towards Nazzadar. Now, civility is a cornerstone of Misplaced Pages, this being a collaborative project. But you seem to be suffering from a chronic lack of AGF towards this user. I read his comments myself that seemed to have sparked this, and from my years of experience, there's nothing in there of concern. However, the way you carried your dispute to Nazzadar's talk page has been completely inappropriate. But since you're a newbie, I'll assume good faith instead of blocking you outright.

Here's my deal with you, and I'm going to post this to the relevant section on ANI. Stay away from Nazzadar. Don't post to his talk page. Stay away from him in discussion. Be civil. If you can follow this, you won't be blocked. Someguy1221 (talk) 07:30, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
