Request: Most countries use standard colors-both blue/orange colors should match File:World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.svg-in RGB format, the blue is (0,82,214) and the orange is (254,143,3), remove all black bordering as unnecessary-this batch is much more simple, only two colors to standardize. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 19:58, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
- Do you know the hex values of the definitive blue and gold? There are so many different shades to go from. Incidentally, the reason I left the black outlines on that template is so the illustrator can immediately see where the paths are. Everything is simple fills and strokes. I don't know about anyone else but a lot of the time I spent doing them was trying to match the fonts. Typography isn't my strong point so I don't immediately know the names of them. I know they are a reasonably basic sanserif font, but perks of my work I have access to around 100,000 fonts and variations, so as you may well gather searching for a particular font by sight in that lot is a nightmare. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 19:59, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- I wish I knew the hex values, I have been searching, meanwhile can it be picked up, like the eyedropper in Photoshop? Thank you for your hard work with the images and the fonts. I think from what I have seen (most of these are locally-produced pins, sometimes badges), any sans-serif works. On the template, changing the scroll border to orange, and the scroll itself to blue, would still leave the paths. Since you have access to fonts, I will have a weird one for you later. ;) --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 20:08, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- ps-Mononomic did the original color correction of the primary badge, maybe the hex triplet answer can be found. --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 20:14, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- Got an answer. They're actually not hex colors, but they are in RGB format. The blue is (0,82,214) and the orange is (254,143,3). Does this help? --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 20:57, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
Graphist opinion(s): File:Asia Pacific Region (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts).png probably needs a vectorization, I can try, but I'll probably need help with the text. Connormah (talk | contribs) 17:36, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- Could you also specify where you want the blue and orange colors on the one I recently traced? I can do it anytime. Connormah (talk | contribs) 18:05, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- That's a great start-the deeper blue bottom section and the matching orange symbol are what need color-matched. --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 18:25, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, so the blue should be orange, how about the lavender purple? Connormah (talk | contribs) 18:44, 20 February 2010 (UTC)
- I took the liberty of adding the text. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 22:37, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

- Leave that one as is, and any other extra colors on any of these images. The only colors to bother with are blue, orange-gold, and removal of black bordering. --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 19:00, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Black border
I've noticed you've requested that the black scroll should be removed. I tried that, I tried it with the blue and to be honest it looks crap. If I remove it, what do you suggest I replace it with. Remember, it isn't a border, it's meant to represent the shadow inherent in a scroll like that. I also don't understand your dislike of the black stroke on the outside. In illustration form it's meant to increase the contrast between the image and it's surrounding colour. Although it may not be 100% accurate to the real badge, please remember that these are illustrations, not photo-real images. Most of these images can benefit from a thin black stroke around the outside edge.
Also I see you've requested in the Arubaanse Padvindsters Gilde image that the gold triangles are removed. Those aren't triangles. They are the back of the 3D banner and forms the stalk of the trefoil.
Incidentally, on the blank, the text is there as a placeholder for the text on a path effect. It will give the graphist who uses the template a gudie to the font and positioning. It's not meant as a catch-all 'motto'. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 17:57, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- Fred, I respect your eye as an artist and I am most grateful for your hard work. The problem is the difference between what looks good and what is. These emblems are bicolor only, and putting more into them is a kind of WP:OR. Please have a look at File:Vietnamese Girl Scout Association.png for maybe the best example-the curls under the ribbon are least important and don't have to show. The two-color scheme works, successfully, the other ones you recolored are great-that's all I am asking for. Thank you as always for your hard work! --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 04:29, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
- All objects have an edge, as do most illustrations. Unfortunately the example above just demonstrates the opposite of the argument you are putting forward. It has a high contrast edge that delineates it from the background. Most illustrations, especially low contrast ones, contain an outer edge, i.e. a 1 or 2 pt stroke. Please remember that an illustration is just that, it illustrates. It's only a representation. If you wanted "what is" then you should have photographs taken. If you want illustrations then one should stick with convention. It strikes me that the only reason you are asking for the removal of these things is purely personal preference. I'm sorry that you disagree. What you are asking just creates more work, not necessarily for future illustrations, but to go back and change all the others already done. I'm truly sorry, but I'm not prepared to do that. If someone else agrees with you and wants to do it then fine I won't argue or revert. I also don't see any point in my doing any more if all that's going to happen is I do them the way I think they should be done, then you request changes I disagree with then someone else has to make the additional changes you ask for. With all due respect I think my time can be better spent on other mini-projects.--Fred the Oyster (talk) 09:30, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry you feel that way, my intent was not to pick a fight, as I say I respect your hard work. With the exception of Spain, these are small orgs and photos are hard to come by. --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 11:40, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

British and Irish Lions 1924 crest
Article(s): British and Irish Lions
Request: Could you please convert this image to svg and add clarity to its components. The crest as uploaded currently, is under fair use because it is from a photograph published on a website. However, the crest itself would be in the Public Domain, having not been first published in the US, with UK and Irish copyright law applying, and the term of 70 years having expired at the end of 1994. Thus a clear SVG would make this crest a public domain equivalent.Kwib (talk) 22:43, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- Many thanks to DASHBot. The file is non-free currently, but an svg rendering would produce a PD version (only non-free because from a photo, however, the crest itself is PD). The link to the file is here: Image of 1924LionsCrest.Kwib (talk) 10:28, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Request: Would it be feasible to create an image in a similar quality as in the case of the beakers? 89.217.130.227 (talk) 11:00, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Graphist opinion(s):
- I gave my shot and made one at File:1000 ml Erlenmeyer flask.svg. I'm not that satisfied with it, though. I heavily used the beakers.svg, and just modified the location of various point to change the shape. The text has been converted to outlines, so it can't be readily modified (which resulted in not looking as good as I want). -Andrew c 15:31, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- It does not look too bad, though. Surely it is an improvement towards the png file. The three other flasks are just missing. :) 84.226.17.184 (talk) 06:59, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Graphist opinion(s): You can get the second from de:File:US Open.svg. It is however not well made. --Leyo 12:58, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- That's because the editor who created it couldn't replicate the flaming ball and simply embedded the low resolution raster image in the svg. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 13:06, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- I've finished it off with a vectorised ball + flame. Can't work out how to upload to the german wiki, though, so feel free to move it across if necessary. The flame is inconsistent between the JPG and the embedded graphic, though, so I'm not sure which is more accurate. --NikNaks93 (talk) 15:44, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
Done
- First of all, I don't think it's appropriate to remove the (R) symbol. Maybe if it was a PD-text image, but this is not the case. Seems like we would do well to not bother removing stuff like that on non-free images (but maybe I'm wrong about that). Next, I found a PDF on the 2009.usopen.org webpage that had a vector version of the logo. I've uploaded that version (slightly modified for color). NikNaks93's version was a little off (the serifs and bowl of the P in the type was off, and the shape of the flames a bit wonky). -Andrew c 20:49, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
- This image looks awesome! Thanks a lot for the images guys. Thank you NikNaks, thank you Fred and thanks a lot Andrew. Arteyu ? Blame it on me ! 01:59, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

- Nice one! But how about File:IBF logo.jpg? Can you remove the white background and improve it a bit? that should be easy imho. Arteyu ? Blame it on me ! 09:42, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
- yes removing the white is easier, the problem is that there are so few pixels to work with as it is such a low resolution image. Also there is artifacting and anti-aliasing so the contrast between the red and the white isn't as close as one would think. So removing the white will either deteriorate the text and some of the shuttlecock or if you reduce the tolerance the edges become ragged. IMHO it's not worth the trouble. The only way to do the job properly is to either convert to vector or get a higher resolution image to work with. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 14:50, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry, i should have known earlier, and should have posted a higher resolution image over here for you guys to work with. Arteyu ? Blame it on me ! 19:50, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

- Look at the corner of http://www.ocasia.org/, their official website. It has the wider width. The SVG was extracted from an official source. I guess they have multiple configurations of the logo (since the png is also sourced from an official source), but since the main homepage has the longer text, perhaps we should use that one? -Andrew c 03:45, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- See page 11 of this official PDF source. So I think the version with the wider text would be more appropriate. --JovianEye (talk) 05:06, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- I think the wider text on the website version has more to do with the column width of the left-hand column than to the accuracy of the logo. I think the webpage designer has taken some artistic licence there. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 10:11, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Article(s): Lamborghini
Request: I tried to extract the logo from this official PDF, but the file size was a massive 5MB which made Inkscape on my system very sluggish. Could someone try and upload the vector version if it is feasible. JovianEye (talk) 23:21, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think this is going to work. The logo in that PDF is incredibly detailed; much more than is allowable by fair use. The SVG I managed to extract was 4 MB in size as well. I guess you can still export it as a reasonably sized PNG, though. Quibik (talk) 01:19, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'm currently trying to simplify it by expanding all the blends into gradients.Actually, I've already done that, but I'm waiting for Scour to optimise the resulting SVG. The web version seems to be barfing though, so tomorrow I'll install Python and run a local version of Scour on it. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 01:23, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

- Do you have a PDF or other official source for us to extract the image from? We should avoid custom traces or re-drawing of official logos (and that this is a non-free logo doesn't help, because it's application and use on Misplaced Pages is so limited in the first place)-Andrew c 14:57, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- I found their corporate design and style guide, but the entire thing (even the text) is raster, so that won't help your request much, but it does list the spot colors and such *but isn't in English*. -Andrew c 15:02, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- This should be a relatively easy conversion doing a manual trace of the central icon and creating new of the rest. Matching the colours would be a snap, but the problem would be the font and the language. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 15:08, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah, type on curves is fairly difficult by itself, and to match it exactly seems nearly impossible. However, a seal isn't exactly the same as a corporate logo, and there may be different versions and thus some leniency in terms of accurate reproduction.-Andrew c 17:06, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
- No I didn't mean that. Finding and/or identifying the font is the bit I find difficult. Once I have the right font the rest is easy, even if it's on a path. I'm afraid I don't have an eye for the subtle differences in similar fonts, so invariably I end up with a "close but no cigar". The kerning and tracking is easy too, if a little painstaking and time consuming. --Fred the Oyster (talk) 17:36, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
