    The Spam-whitelist page is used in conjunction with the Mediawiki SpamBlacklist extension, and lists strings of text that override Meta's blacklist and the local spam-blacklist. Any administrator can edit the spam whitelist. Please post comments to the appropriate section below: Proposed additions (web pages to unblock), Proposed removals (sites to reblock), or Troubleshooting and problems; read the messageboxes at the top of each section for an explanation.     Please enter your requests at the bottom of the Proposed additions to Whitelist section and not at the very bottom of the page. Sign your requests with four tildes: ~~~~

    I want to add a link to an interview a famous game designer did at www.examiner.com/x-7207-Cleveland-RPG-Examiner~y2009m9d1-Dennis-Detwiller-Interview but that site is currently blacklisted. I see no reason for it to have been blacklisted to begin with. Some of the information is valid, such as Dennis Detwiller's interview. If there is anything on the site not considered reliable sources, then that could be determined on a case by case basis, there no reason to block the entire site.     I was one of the editors who led the effort to have Examiner.com blacklisted (please see Examiner.com = paid blogging no editorial oversight, Request to reopen discussion on Examiner.com and Examiner.com). Overall, Examiner.com is not a reliable source. However, this particular article may be acceptable. Interviews with a subject are usually found to be reliable at WP:RSN as primary sources as long as there is no reasonable question to their authenticity.     Source is used in Darrell_Issa#Blackwater_controversy. Verified in toto by an aggregate of the official government hearing transcript, video, and other RS. It's a concise summary of the controversy as was the original first-reporting source, now a total dead link. Authors Jeff Dufour and Patrick Gavin also write for the Washington Examiner (article), which is not blacklisted. The archive at WaEx doesn't go back to 2007, and is robots.txt excluded. Also they've written numerous articles at BOTH washingtonexaminer.com and Examiner.com (see www.examiner.com/a-560625~Yeas_and_Nays__Monday__Feb__12.html and click the link "SEE THE LATEST ON THIS STORY."     I did some looking into the reason behind the ban of this website and found that anti-semitism is the chief cause.
    This is the reason for the block of this website explained on :
    1) 'Associated with the death camps nonsense'. Interesting use of the word 'nonsense'. Maybe its time to re-evaluate this reason for the block and ban the racist, revisionist who wrote such a terrible reason for banning a holocaust website.
    2) 'the site is not reliable.' Each page has references on the bottom, and from the information I've read it is accurate, well written and doesnt conflict with other sources.

    Well, Meishern, it was blacklisted since it was spammed, (agressively) cross wiki, the exact reason why the spam blacklist was designed (your link was not the blacklisting reason, that is here). Moreover, it was deemed to be inaccurate (which may have changed) and related to deathcamps.org / death-camps.org. And I think that the word 'nonsense' was relating to the latter two sites. Deathcamps.org / death-camps.org has an OTRS ticket attached, with on and off wiki disputes, edit warring, spamming, etc. etc. (I don't know if there are OTRS tickets for holocaustresearchproject; I don't have access to OTRS).

    But then, this situation has been quite some time ago (blacklisted in 2006), and the site may have cleaned up their act. I would suggest to request a new de-listing request on meta, stressing the arguments that it seems to be reliable now (maybe give some examples), and that it was a long time ago (I don't know if there is still a link with death(-)camps.org, that may need investigation!).     Hi, I've created a custom search engine that is very helpful when searching for reliable sources on a topic. Several times, I've wanted to link to it in talk page discussions, but can't because it's blocked. So what I have to do is introduce an error into the URL (usually a blank space) to let other editors use it. But since they can't click on it, it makes things pretty inconvenient and other editors don't understand what I'm talking about.     It's not a technical limitation, but a point of consistency. We don't allow any custom searches because of the risk of misuse of Google Co-op, and if we were to permit this one, there would be huge complaints from others whose requests we denied. Stifle (talk) 14:17, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
    Then I'm confused as to the purpose of having a white list in the first place. If the argument is, "We can't have an exception because there would be complaints from other people in similar situations", then what's the point of having a white list?     I don't really see that issue, Stifle. We whitelist when specific links have a use for Misplaced Pages. Sure, there may be more custom search engines become asked for, but in mainspace these are totally inappropriate (we don't have to provide a service to editors to have a custom search engine to find some <subject>; that then can be use promotional by changing the custom search in such a way that certain products are found etc.). If the use is strictly outside of mainspace by WikiProjects or Noticeboards (like this one), then I do not see the problem why we now would have to allow other custom search engines for use in mainspace. I'd suggest to allow this one, keeping WP:OTHERLINKS in mind when others are trying to use this decision as a reason for whitelisting others. --Dirk Beetstra 08:20, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

    Nefac

    Official website of a prominent anarchist federation. Relevant to several wiki articles. url may have been involved in a single spam years ago (2007). One user did a cross wiki post for this site on several anti-fascist articles. This is no reason to continue a total ban. NEFAC remains an influential organization with several member groups that have wiki entries and news coverage. The main url should be whitelisted or removed from the blacklist.       • You could unblock index.php if you want. I really don't see how a single malicious user unrelated to those running or writing about a site can get a whole domain blocked.     Antony Beaumont discography

    I would like to link to this page: www.theclassicalshop.net/details06MP3.asp?CNumber=CHAN%2010138 in order to cleanup the discography at Antony Beaumont#Audio recordings (as conductor). The link acts as a citation, as do the other links to the Chandos website already in this section. Chandos, the publisher of the CD, does not have another website, and the web page which I wish to link was the source of the information on the recording which was used in preparing the discography. Also the specific link under discussion allows one to download a pdf file of the recording booklet which happens to contain an informative essay on the music which was written by the subject of the Misplaced Pages article, the musicologist Antony Beaumont. --Robert.Allen (talk) 19:07, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

      • That Antony Beaumont conducted and recorded Zemlinsky's Die Seejungfrau, Fantasy for Orchestra (1902-3) and Symphony in D minor with the Czech Philharmonic, a recording which was issued on Chandos (includes downloadable CD booklet). I first accessed the page on 3 February 2009, but have been unable to link to it. Obviously I should have checked before writing the request, since it had been quite a while since I last checked it. In any case, I think I can find the info for these recordings on WorldCat, so I'm hoping to replace most of the links to theclassicalshop.net with links to WorldCat, but I would like to link to the CD booklet with the essay by Beaumont which is on the blocked site.     Well, the en.wikipedia.org/4shared clearly states that "This article may require cleanup to meet Misplaced Pages's quality standards. Please improve this article if you can." I actually can do that. This article is written like an advertisement so I've rewrote it from a neutral point of view as it should be. But I can't publish it because it says that the article contains an external link which is banned. The wiki already has articles on other file sharing services so I don't see any reason why people shouldn't know about the similar one. --Bewitchedyegor (talk) 10:57, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

    There are number of pages that are united under "About" title on the web site itself (if you meant that) but I haven't linked to them.     I’m writing an article about a CAD file translation program. The sandbox is HERE on my user page. I understand the nature of what can go onto Examiner.com.

    However, there are exceedingly few independent authors writing reviews and explanations about CAD programs. In this particular case, http:// … www.squidoo.com/Author-Frank-Sherosky is a bona fide author and, as a recently retired CAD design engineer from GM, he certainly qualifies as a reliable source on this particular subject. I confirmed with the owner of theTransMagic company (Jerry) that this author is not an employee of theirs and was not paid for the article.

    The link I want to use is “Examiner.com: http:// … www.examiner.com/automotive-technology-in-detroit/auto-suppliers-suffer-heavy-burden-of-industry-s-multiple-cad-systems”. The statement I hope to cite is “However, problems arise when files must be shared with outside companies, which may use a different type of CAD program.” That statement is pretty much CAD 101, but just because it is obvious to those in the field does not mean it is obvious to everyone; it would be nice to have an outside RS expanding upon that exact issue to use as a ref.

    BTW, my interest in this is that I own Cobalt (CAD program) and I own TransMagic (the file translation software I’m writing about). I am expert on both and the TransMagic software enables me to share files with outside consulting engineers (who tend to use SolidWorks). Believe me, 90% of Web-available stuff on CAD programs are just regurgitated press releases. I need a tad more leeway with CAD-related articles. And since Frank Sherosky is a CAD expert who worked at General Motors, he authoritatively can speak to the issue of trying to share CAD files within the auto industry.

    Greg L, the problem is not that he was paid to write the article, the problem is that anyone following the link to his article will result in him being paid (and that for every single hit, even if people don't even read it ..). That was one of the reasons examiner ended up on the blacklist (and then there are other often other concerns). But I agree with you, you clearly state that the editor is knowledgeable in the field, etc. etc. Therefore, I will add this one to the whitelist.     It's http://www.pornhub.com/index.php. As far as I know, all web servers of all types will have an "index" file with some name, although it might not always be obvious what it is.     The problem is, quite some index.php's can be 'abused' (see http://en.wikipedia.org/search/ .. add ?title=pornhub to it .. and you do get to other content).     I'd like to request that this site be unblocked. I'm not sure why it was blocked by herbythyme in December 2007 and I apologize if it's apparent to a more experience Misplaced Pages contributor. This site contains excellent articles on back pain and procedures used to mitigate it. I was making a proposal on the Talk page for the stub Facet joint injection that it be changed to Facet Joint Injection Procedures and include the three standard procedures used. I noted URLs from spine-health (see below) that I thought could be used as references or in External Links as well as support my idea for the new topic when I discovered that the domain had been blacklisted. I certainly wouldn't suggest only using information from this site (or any one site) but because it was a Talk page, I thought I'd add pertinent links to support my suggestions that would add to the topic's discussion. I found this site while I was Googling for articles written by Ray Baker, MD, on the subject. I specifically chose to Google Baker because he's a world-renowned expert in the area of facet joint injection procedures.

    Here are some considerations to take into account about the site when looking at it again:

    1. It's independent. It's not owned by companies selling products, procedures or medications, and the articles aren't written or influenced by such companies.
    2. It contains entirely original content, it's written for laymen and it's more in-depth than similar sites.
    3. It's peer-reviewed by at least one appropriate health care practitioner from their Medical Advisory Board.
    4. It clearly marks all advertisements so they cannot be confused with content.

Again, I'd never suggest that this or any other site be the sole resource for a Misplaced Pages article but I thought it was appropriate to add the links to a Talk page to support my suggestions, add to the discussion about my proposal and possibly be used as references/External Links.

    I found some accounts back in 2006 spamming this. I should note, (quite) some additions were .. debatable, others were plain spammy. You can find some accounts using the linksearch in the linksummary template above (the first link, saying 'en'), there are some IPs where the links are on the talkpages, those are amongst the editors that have been found to add this.
    I'm not sure if this would pass WP:RS, having a specialist paid to review the articles might not be enough (you might want to see WP:RS/N about that first. As external links I would not use them either, we are not a linkfarm to link to all possible information, there is much more out there, and I think much more is available on better sources than this anyway.     James, we are a legitimate site with a lot of users passionate about our industry, I apologize if some of them went overboard with links. As a site owner myself I understand the importance and difficulty of keeping spammers at bay but I list my personal email and phone number on our website, if someone had just contacted me I could have personally removed the links and alerted our readers to obey the rules.

    The banning of JamProject-LA.com was declined for this very reason shortly after we where added to the list. The decline states "I see that none have received warnings to date. We don't blacklist unless the spammer has received and ignored multiple warnings. Blacklisting is a draconian last step we take to stop spam; it potentially has implications beyond Wikimedia since our blacklist is referred to by other web sites when compiling their own blacklists." Like Jamproject, we received no recent warnings and did not even know about this list until we where alerted to it by one of our blog readers.

    I also apologize if I am taking the wrong tactic by requesting the whitelist, all I would like is to be removed off the blacklist. I'm trying to get myself quickly up to speed on[REDACTED] policy and procedure but, as I am sure you can remember from your early days on this site, this is a challenge.     I came here after a remark on my talkpage. GCaptain. Your reasoning starts with 'gCaptain is a blog ...'. Blogs fail our verifiability policy, anyone can write anything on a blog, and such references are hence to be used with extreme care. Secondly, blogs fail our external links guideline, they are often, or generally, not suitable as an external link. You were warned for that, and I see at least 3 IPs being warned for adding these links. It may be that you don't understand how things work here, but the big orange 'you have new messages', and I think that the messages are clear.
    Comparing yourself to another site, well, JamProject-LA.com did not get any warnings, and maybe the spamming stopped .. you did get warnings, or your users. If there is no response to that, and spamming continues, then blacklisting is the only solution (and this was on User:XLinkBot before blacklisting, but that did not stop the spamming either). And surely, there are no recent warnings, as the site is blacklisted .. it can not be added anymore.
    I am sorry, generally this site is not suitable as a link on Misplaced Pages, I would suggest you start contributing content to our encyclopedia, and learn about our ways. Be sure to use proper references. And when you need the blog as a reference, you can suggest the specific link here for whitelisting. Still, note the existence of Misplaced Pages:Verifiability, Misplaced Pages:Reliable Sources and Misplaced Pages:External links .. all of which this site likely to fail, and where, I am afraid, generally there will be better references to attribute the text on Misplaced Pages.     Yes I have added links before, no I have not received any warnings. The links I added because I believed they added value to the conversation, none where off topic, none where beyond my expertise as a ship captain and none came without a high level of research and editing by the part of our staff. Even in hindsight I can not find links to gCaptain that are not relevant and appropriate. But I am not arguing the links, I do "get it" and further I do apologize for not having "got it" before.

    Yes I added the link on David Hirshey's[REDACTED] page because the book is relevant to his profile. He is my editor and the book meets all[REDACTED] guidelines for relevant sources. Further you may ask David himself if the addition was ok. I think that by removing my entry to David's biography you are removing new and relevant information that people viewing that page would want to know.

    A big question here seems to be your relevant sources policy. But this policy clearly states "Self-published material may, in some circumstances, be acceptable when produced by an established expert on the topic of the article whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications. " gCaptain certainly applies here, which is a collection of our blog posts expanded, is being published by a credible source, HarperCollins, further I have written for other credible sources in the industry including Lloyds List, Fairplay, Maritime Executive and have been quoted in many of the large publications including, recently, being noted as an expert in my field by the NY Times, Wall Street Journal and NPR. gCaptain itself has been quoted by numerous media outlets.

    The bottom line is I visited your talk pages to ask for help. I am confused by the matter in which a blacklist occurs, I'm confused why we never received notification, and I need your help.     Unreal is a game from 1998 so a new patch won't make news on many websites. OldUnreal is a reliable source which Unreal users rely on for their updates on the Unreal community. The only other reference I know of about the 227 patch is hyper.dnsalias.net/files-patches.htm. Would that be a better site to reference? There are only TWO reliable sources left for Unreal and EpicGames has left the development up to the developers at OldUnreal so it's almost as good as citing EpicGames themselves. Are you saying if a major gaming company made an announcement on their website that they were developing a new game/patch, that website would not be a good website to reference for such information?     I would also like to see the removal of voobly.com from the blacklist. I was (still am!) a keen AOE II player myself, and when Microsoft shut down MSN zone I in fact setup a website of my own with some friends to develop a client for online play. After several months of getting constantly attacked and put out as spammers by 'rival' websites and other delinquents who just happened to be attracted by these game sites, I decided just to close the site down and halted client development. One of the tactics used aganst us was to spam links on other sites to get us blacklisted. It is unfortunate that gamer sites attract a lot of juvenile delinquents and others that behave in this way but it is rather harsh to punish or blacklist genuine developers (and their sites) because of the actions of persons unrelated to the site or the developers, and who usually have ulterior motives for having the site blacklisted. The costs of taking legal action, and the complexities involved in trying to stop such people are virtually prohibitive for most companies never mind a small developer trying to establish a genuine site. I know some of the people at Voobly and these guys are definitely not spammers, it is most likely that they are suffering a similar situation as that which I personally experienced with my own site (which I now redirect to voobly incidentally!). I only discovered voobly was on the blacklist when I tried to update my own personal page to reflect that I am a keen AOE II player and mention that I play at voobly, and it would not accept the link. This is rather sad to see.

    As a member of the staff on voobly.com I can tell you we should not be blacklisted for spam. Other gaming websites similar to ours are allowed to post their links on[REDACTED] so we should be able to. Voobly.com is a gaming website that took over a lot of the games from the msn gaming zone when it shut down. We have anywhere from 1000 - 3000 players online and playing at any given time.     Carlo Scevola & Partners is a fiduciary company (law firm) headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, with branches in six continents.

    They wanted to get some online exposure, and they decided to outsource their online marketing to an online marketing firm. I don't have the name of the firm, but could find out. The firm that they outsourced to, posted the original[REDACTED] links that got them banned.

    I'm not sure how we can prove that Carlo didn't do this posting. Perhaps by the IPs that were used for the original[REDACTED] linking? Let me know. Thanks! In any case, it would be nice if we could whitelist this one URL: www.carloscevola.com/offshore/book/book.php

    (Most) books have an ISBN, if you add that, Misplaced Pages automagically links it to its built in Special:Booksources. That should then link on to the book whereever it can be found. I think that is enough. --Dirk Beetstra 22:12, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

    The website, amongst others, is discussed as part of the exposition of video aggregation methods in the Video aggregator article. All other video aggregators discussed in the article have a link to their site in the article which seems appropriate as many do not have Misplaced Pages articles and this is otherwise useful for readers. The aggregators chosen for discussion in the article were selected for their mentions in the article's sources, and is in no way arbitrary (and therefore possibly promotional).     I removed the other links and converted the article to a redirect, but the links were restored. I explained the reasons on the article talk page - providing links for sites that fail to meet WP:WEB guidelines meets the threshold for linkspam. Those links should be re-removed. The two secondary sources mentioned in the article are arbitrary lists by the authors of those two articles, not establishing any clear criteria other than personal preference of those two authors (who each list different sites). --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 06:44, 20 June 2010 (UTC)
    The entire ariticle was deleted, not just the links, an article based on reliable sources.
    WP:WEB refers to the notability of a website, not whether the website can be mentioned in an article or have an external link. Websites can be discussed like anything else, as they are discussed in reliable sources.
    The sources are not mere lists nor are they arbitrary. The PCWorld mag source is not arbitray, it is the magazine's selection of most useful websites, a "best of the web" article. The specific page cited is the page for video aggregation sites. And there is a succinct review of each website, not just a list. The Mashable source is a review (not a list) of newer video aggregators. While the reviewer is not saying they are the best, they are discussed for their usefulness and innovation. Further, the selection is likely not arbitrary anyway, as the authors of these articles are not amateurs, but professional journalists specializing in the internet.     Please whitelist the particular petition page. The whole domain may well be outside Misplaced Pages's policies, but this particular case concerns part of an ancient Greek monument, Diolkos, which is being continuously washed away by waves of seawater while officials falsely claim to be protecting it. The petition page itself is mentioned in the article (Diolkos#Modern_exploration) and I think that the whole struggle to save the monument is part of the present history of the monument and therefore useful as a reference in Misplaced Pages.     An IP randomly blanked the page Bas-Rhin and I tried to revert it, but it wasn't allowed since apparently the original version contained a blacklisted link.
