Sergio Ezequiel Araujo (born January 28, 1992) is an Argentine footballer who currently plays for FC Barcelona for its reserve squad on a two-season long loan deal from Argentine giant Boca Juniors, with an option to buy.

Club career

Araujo is a product of Boca Juniors youth divisions. He made his debut in a game against Banfield on December 14, 2009.

On November 21, 2010, Araujo scored his first goal with Boca Juniors in a 2–1 victory over Arsenal de Sarandí.

As of 2011-12 season, Araujo became pretty consistent in his performance for Boca Juniors, and even began starring as one of the first eleven players on the pitch frequently. The talent and performance of this gifted youngster caught eye of several bigwig clubs of global football, including the likes of Real Madrid CF and FC Barcelona.

On July 19, 2012, finally FC Barcelona secured a two-season long loan deal of Araujo for at least 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, with an option to buy. He is expected to play for the reserve squad (FC Barcelona B) of the club.

International career

During April–May 2009, Araujo represented Argentina at the South American U-17 Championship, where he scored three goals in five appearances. Argentina came second and qualified for the U-17 World Cup.

Subsequently, the forward represented Argentina at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup held in Nigeria. He scored a 59th minute winner against Honduras in Argentina's opening game, as well as a 58th minute winner in a 2–1 victory against Germany in Argentina's second game. Argentina progressed to the round of 16, where Araujo scored to put them 2–0 ahead of Colombia. However, Colombia would end up winning the game 3–2.

Araujo represented the Argentina U-23 national team at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico. Araujo scored in Argentina's opening 1-1 draw with Brazil, where he was red carded in the 85th minute. Argentina reached the final, where they lost 1-0 against hosts Mexico.

Despite tremendous appraisals from national coach Alejandro Sabella, Araujo is yet to receive a national call-up for the senior side, but the coach has hinted that he may not be too far from it.
