Welcome to OhanaUnited's talk page.
Please read the following before making a comment in my talk page.

  • If you leave a message here, I will reply in your talk page.
  • I do not watchlist your talk page, unless you explictly indicate it clearly in your message. I also don't cross-post your message because I feel this is redunant.
  • Comments which are rude, uncivil, or constituting a personal attack will be ignored and/or removed without advance notice.
  • If you come here to complain or rant about why I delisted an Good Article (GA) that you like/created/contributed, head over to this page. I have the same feeling as one of my favourite Misplaced Pages editor/administrator, LaraLove, towards how we got attacked by editors who object our delisting action.
  • Because I find it difficult to follow a conversation with anonymous, IP users, in addition to the possibility of dynamic IP address, I may not always respond to these editors' comments. While not necessary, it may help if you create an account.

GA review drive checks

Things are going slowly for me here, but they're going. I will not be editing from Jan 6-12 because I'll be traveling for work, so I'll try to get as many of these checks done as I can before that. I'm not doing a second GA review of each review, though I am looking at the thoroughness of the review as it relates to the criteria and skimming each article to make sure nothing is totally disconnected from the GA criteria. Shall we give the drive barnstars to participants as we finish their checks, or wait until all are done? You can reply on my talk page in this section. Cheers, AstroCog (talk) 16:26, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Eastern Harbour Crossing

I have restored the request for citation at Eastern Harbour Crossing. Please see the talk page of the article. The problem was not that I found it challenging to add 30 to 1986, but that data available about the dates do not match the one in the article. Thank you. Request for Guidance Re: ANI

Since I trust your judgement in these matters, I would like to ask for your advice as to my best course of action in this ANI. While I do not feel that I have done anything wrong, I would like to understand this matter from the standpoint of a highly experienced editor such as yourself. Thanks. Misplaced Pages:Featured portal candidates

I noticed that you're one of the moderators at Misplaced Pages:Featured portal candidates, and that there may be a consensus there to promote Portal:History to featured status. I've also notifying User:Cirt about this matter, as they are also listed as a moderator for the featured portal candidates page. Northamerica1000 02:43, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

Featured portals

Sorry, now I understand. May I by-pass the Misplaced Pages:Portal peer review, I see that not many people visit that page and the portal it's just like Portal:Tennis that is FP, and directly propose to Misplaced Pages:Featured portal candidates? --Kasper2006 (talk) 03:47, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Ok, I just ask. For your experience, what you think about the portal? --Kasper2006 (talk) 04:20, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
I listened to your suggestions, now the portal has the "purge button" with 6 articles and 6 biographies (for the moment). Do you think I can now proceed to report it to Misplaced Pages:Portal peer review? --Kasper2006 (talk) 08:28, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

The portal has been implemented (now articles and biographies have 40), and I placed it here. I can now take the next step? Propose it to Featured portal candidates and start the nomination procedure? --Kasper2006 (talk) 09:08, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

The fact that there was no intervention to discussion in 3 weeks, it can also mean that no one has anything to the contrary. At this point you can proceed with the proposed FP? --Kasper2006 (talk) 15:05, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

Collaboration with Journals

I noticed you where working on this sort of effort. We have a couple of proposals on the table including: The Misplaced Pages Journal and one on collaborative publishing. Wondering if you would be interested in supporting these?--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 03:05, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

If any of them pertain to medicine please add to the resource we have created for editors here.--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 03:31, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
This proposal I think has a better chance of succeeding. I have a couple of meetings with a couple of journals coming up. The more journals however interested in this sort of arrangement the better.--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 03:36, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

WP vs WS

Hi, you may be interested to read the last comment here: Talk:Squat_lobster#WikiProject_Food_and_drink_Tagging, i.e.,

  • I have re-reverted Stho002 (talk)'s deletion of content (1st time for me). Links to other Wiki projects and even to other Misplaced Pages pages are not reliable sources, nor are they satisfactory substitutes for properly referenced content... - Nick Thorne talk 03:25, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

This is *completely wrong*! A link to another Wiki project isn't itself a source, but is a link to the source(s), which are on the other project page(s). There is no point repeating them all here. They just don't get it! They can't show me where this contravenes policy, so they just gang up and try to get me with 3rr! They may be biased against WS, but I want WS and WP to work in harmony, and if it isn't against policy, then they can't stop me ... Stho002 (talk) 03:38, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Misplaced Pages editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Misplaced Pages editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi 17:27, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

WP:RX

Hey
What do you think about making template for new section and also include some instructions for the posters like include full links and add resolved tag after their request was fulfilled.--Shrike (talk)/WP:RX 07:25, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

I thought similar template to one of the boards like WP:AN/3RR.I have no idea in coding maybe we can ask someone.--Shrike (talk)/WP:RX 07:32, 22 July 2012 (UTC)
That's good too but that not what I meant.I thought about removing "new section" and instead insert link "Add new request" so the subheading could be formatted correctly. the month could be added by bot also it could contains some instructions for the poster like provide doi link or isbn and etc--Shrike (talk)/WP:RX 19:47, 23 July 2012 (UTC)..
So could you implement that?Do you need my help?--Shrike (talk)/WP:RX 06:39, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
Also archiving bot will be good too.For example archive resolved threads right away and not resolved 60d old --Shrike (talk)/WP:RX 09:46, 24 July 2012 (UTC)
I have made same temporary template could you please do a little c/e user:shrike/RX thanks.--Shrike (talk)/WP:RX 07:59, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Re: Call for Brock University's Campus Ambassador

Hi Andrew. I would love to help out in any way I can; however, I will be away from the Brock campus for a significant chunk of September and October collecting data for my research. I will only be available on-campus in early September, as well as in November and early December. Let me know your thoughts. What is the time commitment for this? I don't have a ton of time (I'm at the data collection/analysis stage of my thesis), but I'm always willing to lend my office space to help out a student looking to better the Wiki...always a fun distraction. Feel free to shoot me an email anytime. – Nurmsook! 04:50, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

I'll be wrapping my studies up in April 2013, so I will be on campus from November 2012 to April 2013 full-time. – Nurmsook! 17:49, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Swiss International Air Lines

Hi, I have reverted your edit to Swiss International Air Lines. The Bombardier CS100 orders are for Swiss European Air Lines not for Swiss international. Swiss European Air Lines is a separate airline operating under a different ICAO and callsign, The airline also have 2 completely separate fleets although they both have the Avro RJ100. The order is already listed on the separate Swiss European article. As they are separate they shouldn't be listed under the international article. Thanks for your understanding. --JetBlast (talk) 20:12, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Featured portal candidates (2)

Since you're listed as a "portal director" on the Misplaced Pages:Featured portal candidates page, you may want to check in there, as several posts are pending. Thank you for your consideration. Northamerica1000 12:10, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

I'd just like to "ping" you about a candidate I listed there about a week ago, that has seen exactly 0 discussion, and inquire as to ways you know of that might be able to engage more users in that discussion. Cheers! Achowat (talk) 16:18, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
@Achowat, FPoC is a slow venue and going a week – or even a month – without comments is sadly not unusual... I intend to review Portal:New England later today if time permits (you may have noticed that I carried out a few minor edits there this morning; the first thing I'll probably ask for is a randomised selection of DYKs rather than a section that requires manual updating, FYI). I don't know whether you've notified the talk pages of WikiProjects that might be interested, but that's always recommended. Whether it makes any difference is another story! Template:PortalReviewVolunteers/List has some names you can ask - when I had a FPoC nomination that was stalling for lack of reviews, Cirt (the other FPo director) said it was fine to approach people on that list for their thoughts, and I think I got some joy that way. I've not updated the list for some months, though, so there may be in/active people there in the wrong section. Bencherlite 16:33, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Lhasa Gonggar Airport

Hello, OhanaUnited! I noticed you add the inofrmation about new runway of the airport. I do not see any news published introducing the planned or under-construction new runway. I visit the airport last year and also found only one runway existing there.

Perhaps a confusing fact is that an old runway has already been used as taxiway and is no longer for landing or taking off. In 2007, a Sichuan Airlines passenger flight wrongly landed on the taxiway because the pilot mistakely considered the former runway (now taxiway) as the correct runway. AlexHe34 (talk) 02:57, 11 August 2012 (UTC)(My Chinese talk page)

Well I mean the article of zh:拉萨贡嘎机场 in Chinese Misplaced Pages.(you add second rwy) When I attempt to contact you, your user page helps me find you here in English wikipedia. Secondly, I cite the forum only to let you know there might be a confusion in our discussion, not to use it as formal reference in the article, despite that formal news can be found in Renminwang. What I want to say is that second runway does not really exist. That's all. AlexHe34 (talk) 05:00, 11 August 2012 (UTC)
That was the old runway but it became a taxiway when so called "09L/27R" runway's construction was completed. If the taxiway below is for landing and taking off, there should be clear "09R/27L" sign on its two ends. AlexHe34 (talk) 06:31, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

Wiki Ambassador Canadian Education Program Initiative

Hey! I wanted to inquire. Can we have ambassadors in UTSC? We are University of Toronto, Scarborough. Please let me know if we need special permissions or any formalities that need to be passed through before we actually consider having wiki ambassadors. Our school isn't really in the list in the website for the Canada education program so we are just making sure. Thanks! Khyati Gupta (talk) 18:26, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Yes I am! :D I was just curious about the program and wanted to figure out more about it. I emailed Prof Joordens and asked him if this is something we can do on campus. He told me that he doesnt really know much info on it. So I thought maybe I do some research myself. I am sorry, I was unaware that our campus already had an ambassador! Can I somehow be a part of it too? Khyati Gupta (talk) 18:45, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
Awesome! Ever since I took the course, I am hooked to wikipedia! And I do not want to lose the motivation. So I would like to continue contributing to wikipedia! Please do follow up with me in regards to the initiative. I thank you in advance!Khyati Gupta (talk) 19:05, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Should I e-mail Prof Joordens? Or is there another way to set this up? Khyati Gupta (talk) 14:41, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Shrike

Shrike in the thread agreed to consult with user:Bus stop before adding content to articles. Even if you choose to ignore this gesture, can you clarify whether the ban you imposed also includes talk pages and or only applies to articles as a total ban seems unnecessary and overly harsh. Shrike acknowledged this deficiency and sought to remedy it and it is inaccurate to state that he failed to drop the stick.Ankh.Morpork 19:02, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

I didn't start it, but there is an ANI thread asking for a review of a recent block you made. The thread starter neglected to inform you, so I am doing so as a courtesy. --Jayron32 19:58, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

Article request response

I had already sent the URL for the doc. The requestor doesn't seem to have been active on WP yesterday and tdoay. Not a good idea to leave the PDF link on a public noticeboard for long; you might want to remove it. Churn and change (talk) 18:54, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Request: JSTOR Info

Hi OhanaUnited, I'm working on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/Marianna_Biernacka and I need a little help confirming the beatification status of the subject.

I did a search on JSTOR and found a book that I believe should contain the information I need. The Catholic Historical Review Vol. 85, No. 4, Oct., 1999 Do you think you can help out with this? Thanks a lot. Also, I'm a little new to wikipedia. How exactly do you add links to words during talk conversations? Carlang (talk) 14:03, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Leaving PDF links on the resource exchanges board

Can you leave the links at the user's talk page? That, or emailing the link, is what others have done. The JSTOR copyright rules prohibit systematic distribution, and leaving a link in a public noticeboard could be construed that way. The talk page link, while still public, is less of an issue, it is not a public noticeboard. Churn and change (talk) 19:18, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.

If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Thank-you. 13:31, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. If user's don't sign on this page, they will be moved to an "Inactive Participants" list rather then be being removed from the entire WikiProject. Sorry for any confusion.--Dom497 (talk)15:21, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Question concerning FPOC

Hey there Ohana Utd! I'm wondering the status on the FPOC for P:NEWENG. It's been about 4 weeks since the 4th Support comment, and I'm wondering if there's anything else I'm expected to do to help the process further. I await your response and thank you for putting up with new Portal contributors, such as myself. Achowat (talk) 18:49, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:SAT Airlines logo.gif)

Thanks for uploading File:SAT Airlines logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:17, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

  • A discussion is currently being held on the WikiProject's talk page on weather another eliminations drive should take place within the next few months as the last one proved to be extremely successful. Good Articles of the Month

Each month, 5 random good articles will be choose to be featured here as the good articles of the month.

Some Tips About References/Sources

Having references included in articles is one of the most important aspects to a good article, let alone Misplaced Pages! Without them, no one would ever know what is true and what is false and Misplaced Pages probably wouldn't be where it is today. So this month, I will talk about how to check for references, how reliable they are, and so on and so forth.

The first thing to do when reviewing an nominee is to do a quick scan of the article. One of the things to look for is if the article has references! If you don't see a list at the bottom of the article page, quick-fail it. For newcomers, quick-failing is failing an article when you spot a problem before actually conducting a full review. If you do find a list of references (and in most cases you will) make sure to look through each and every one. If you want to save some time, use this tool as it will tell you if there are any problematic references in the article you are reviewing.

Next, check the reliability and type of the references/sources. In terms of the type of reference, check to see how many primary and/or secondary sources are included. Primary sources are the ones published by the subject of the article. For example, if the subject of the article has to do with the iPhone 4s and the source is published by Apple, it is considered a primary source. Secondary sources are those not published by the subject of the article (or in close relation to it). Newspapers are examples of secondary sources and considered one of the better types to include in the article (not saying primary sources are bad). If you find that most/all of the references are primary sources, notify the nominator about this issue(s) and place the article on hold once you have completed the review. Only in the event that a secondary source can't be found as a replacement, then the primary source can remain. If there is a good mix of primary and secondary sources, that is perfect and no references need to be changed.

Now, reliability. Forums are generally not considered reliable and some blog's may not be reliable either. Newspapers, most sources published by the subject, some blogs, etc. are considered reliable. If you don't know wether the source is reliable, ask for a second opinion. For more info about how to identify wether a reference is reliable or not, visit this article.

Finally, one of the more basic things to look for is that every statement in the article has at least one reference! The only case that a statement doesn't need a reference is when it is common sense that the statement is defiantly true and/or in the case where the statement can't be challenged, as per what Misplaced Pages says, "All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable published source using an inline citation."

Did You Know...
  • ... that 2,100 articles have been reviewed during all backlog elimination drives combined?
  • ... that out of 4,055,039 articles on Misplaced Pages, only 15,846 are good articles?
  • ... that there are currently over 400 video game good articles?
Notes
  1. As of October 2, 2012 at 19:05 (UTC).
  2. Before quick-failing the article, verify that one of the several referencing templates is correctly placed at the bottom of the article. If the template is not placed, try to place it to see if references are displayed. If this proof returns no references, then proceed to quick-failing.

Help Request

Hi OhanaUnited, I am currently working on a science article about Worker policing and I saw that you are a weasel word/jargon expert. I am trying to get the article up to GA status. Could you help me out by letting me know what I could improve on the wiki page? Thank you for your help. GenesBrainsBehaviorNeuroscienceKL (talk) 07:38, 26 November 2012 (UTC)

Review Portal:Judaism

Hi, I noticed your name on Portal Review Volunteers, and I'd greatly appreciate if you could take a look at this portal. Thanks again -- ypnypn (talk) 01:42, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean; the the portal already includes the Random Component for the selected article box. ? ypnypn (talk) 03:21, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
The issue is, there are almost no relevant featured pictures, so I'm not sure whether to include non-featured pictures. As for the DYK section, I am planning to completely redesign it. For the Weekly portion, Dauster (talk · contribs) managed to produce a formula to update automatically (every Saturday 13:00-UTC), although I can't begin to understand how. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ypnypn (talkcontribs) 22:42, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Somehow my original comment appears to have not actually posted to your talk page, but please check your email, and please hat the discussion about Slim for the timebeing. Kevin Gorman (talk) 05:35, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

It looks like in my haste I initially posted it to your user page, not your talk page. I've deleted it from there, but it's not substantially different from what I've said here. Kevin Gorman (talk) 05:37, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

SPI clerking

OhanaUnited, given you have only made a single comment on an SPI case in the last three months (excluding a case you filed yourself which is not a clerk action), it appears you are mostly inactive as an SPI clerk now. Please stand down as a clerk or move yourself to inactive (whichever you prefer) so that we can get a better idea of how many active clerks we have. Thanks. --(ʞɿɐʇ) ɐuɐʞsǝp 16:13, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

Journal Access?

Hi OhanaUnited, I saw your name come up on the Misplaced Pages Resource Exchange page. Do you by chance have access to this article? http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23175647 Thank you! TylerDurden8823 (talk) 20:57, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

My bad, I know you're supposed to leave comments in the user talk page, just an honest mistake. I was wondering why when I checked here again I couldn't find my comment. Thank you very much for passing along the article. I appreciate it very much. TylerDurden8823 (talk) 07:48, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Broken Featured Portal

Hey. I was going around looking at featured portals and stumbled on Portal:Literature. It looks rather unmaintained, and has two dead sections. I just wanted to bring it up to an FP director, and you're the one that's edited more recently. Cheers, Sven Manguard Wha? 16:31, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Your comment on Images as a source

Hi,

Please forgive me for this intrusion. This comment of yours at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Aircraft#Images_as_a_source appears to have caused some offence, whether intentionally or otherwise.
