Orphaned non-free media (File:Steam Store.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Steam Store.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:13, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

Re: Moscow Metro location maps

Hi. You may reference the Hong Kong MTR metro station articles (e.g. Hong Kong Station). The base map we use has metro lines without the station node for superimposing station icon in the template. Since you're using {{location map}}, I would advise you to employ the {{Location map+/AlternativeMap}} and make the alternative versions of file:Msk blank new.svg and file:Central Moscow.svg with the metro lines sans station node just as we did in the MTR station articles. You may borrow the line data from file:Moscow metro map geo ru.svg but you need to update it because I've stopped maintaining it since 2010, and it is not quite accurate. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 10:25, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

Tested myself in Alma-Atinskaya (Moscow Metro) and Kropotkinskaya. You may download File:Msk blank new metro lines.svg and file:Central Moscow metro lines.svg if you want to modify the base map. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 11:14, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
Nice one and thanks for feedback. :) Do the lines on maps not distract or obstruct reader identifying station location in the city though? Ворот93 (talk) 11:21, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
It's the subject of consensus with other editors, but the map with metro lines is my preference. You may discuss it in Russian Misplaced Pages. The Russian version of ru:Шаблон:ПозКарта has already included the alternative map parameter natively so it's easier for ru.wp to implement it in the articles. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 11:47, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
Nah, I don't think Russian Misplaced Pages is good for defining consensus in terms of design. After all, they paint schematics with red/yellow/green/you name it (like this). In terms of practical usage English MOSMETRO articles surpass Russian ones. Ворот93 (talk) 11:52, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
You don't need to be too skeptical. I prefer you to make consensus with Russian Wikipedians because not many English Wikipedian cares about Russian Railway articles. You just ask them if they prefer to have a location map in the station infobox and whether the base map with or without metro lines is preferable in both en.wp and ru.wp. I'm totally neutral on this. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 11:56, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
There's one more thing. No Metro line will go into the "New Moscow" any time soon. Perhaps it'd be better to zoom in? Ворот93 (talk) 14:06, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
I notice that problem too. So you may create {{Location map Russia Moscow MKAD}} which retains the shown area before 1st July 2012. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 14:40, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
There you go. Check it out. Ворот93 (talk) 16:16, 26 December 2012 (UTC)
Uploaded file:Moscow map MKAD metro line.svg and tested it in Vorobyovy Gory (Moscow Metro). Got to say editing OpenStreetMap SVG is an abomination, it's awfully laggy and easily crashes my Inkscape even with my working PC. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 06:29, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Yeah, 28 MiB SVG is no good for any SVG renderer. Still, nice job with adding those lines. :) I have optimised SVG and made lines thinner (so as to improve readability of the rest of the map).

By the way, why are {{location map+}} and {{location map~}} necessary? If we place just one mark, {{location map}} should be enough imo. Ворот93 (talk) 08:19, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

You can skip these 2 templates by creating a sub-template specifically for single purpose like {{Location map Russia Moscow Metro}}. I saw your change and its way better for maintaining the metro line map :) -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 13:33, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
Yep, it is better to have one base map which we can update from time to time. ;) Ворот93 (talk) 13:36, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
After your revision to File:Moscow map MKAD.svg, the filesize climbs to 69 Mb and my computer or internet connection give up on loading that monster (or Wiki's SVG renderer gave up on rendering this image). This leads to the location map which uses this image as base collapses because the image cannot be loaded. The overlapping metro line map is a floating object so it can't hold the size of the base image and exceed the border of the collapsed infobox. -- Sameboat - 同舟 (talk) 01:29, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Well, I just wanted to have a really detailed and scaleable map... It's hilarious how Inkscape eats up FOUR GiB of RAM (Oo) and Wikimedia server fails. Ворот93 (talk) 11:27, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

January 2013

Hello, I'm Wikiwind. Misplaced Pages is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Heterosexism seemed less than neutral to me, so I removed it for now. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. В и к и T 19:33, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

I am sorry to hurt your feelings but Heterosexuality is the biological norm. If only straight people are able to procreate and that is over 90% then that means something. Denying that is plain ridiculous. Likewise you won't call astigmatism or cystic fibrosis a norm. Ворот93 (talk) 20:43, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at Heterosexism shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Rivertorch (talk) 20:41, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
