Esther Hicks, 2005

Esther Hicks is an American spirit channeller, and author. She has co-authored four major books with husband Jerry Hicks and presents seminars for Abraham-Hicks Publications. Esther Hicks is the channel for a group of spiritual teachers who call themselves "Abraham". Most commonly, this work is referred to under the name Abraham Hicks The "Abraham" teachings "affirm our well-being and help us to recognize the power of joy in achieving all that is desired in life." They also teach that people are the creators of their own reality, that their emotions are guides to help in this creation and that humans are eternal beings and for that reason will "never get it done."

Ideas

In the development of the Abraham material, Esther and Jerry Hicks appear to have been deeply influenced by the Seth books by Jane Roberts, their teachings being very similar to Seth's "you create your own reality" and the name Seth features very prominently on the Abraham-Hicks site, being the name of a character in a book series developed by Esther and Jerry. The Abraham material bears a similar philosophical message to Seth's on some topics, though with a distinctly more upbeat and motivational tone.

Teachings

A key teaching of the Abraham Group is that achieving your desires is done by feeling hopeful and positive about those goals, rather than fearful. The teachings often refer to vibrations - in the nature of, your thoughts are 'vibrations' that influence the 'vibrations of reality,' and in this way have a real impact on the physical word. To summarise, if you think positive thoughts, and so align up your good vibration, good things will happen to you. Equally, if something bad happens to you, then in some sense it was your own doing, because you must have aligned up your bad vibration to encourage or endorse it. An example - when referring to the people who died in the September 11 terrorist attacks, Abraham says "There are no victims, there are only co-creators."

The Abraham Group's views on parenting is an approach of non-intervention, hands-off, and with as few boundaries as possible - in that children should be allowed to develop as their inner being directs them. If a person sees a child doing something that the viewer believes is better not done, he/she should concentrate on the best in the child rather than punishing the child, or forcing rules upon the child. .

The Abraham Group's views on the detrimental effects of aging, is that these effects, like everything else, are also controlled by your 'vibration' or your 'way of thinking,' so a person who is truly harmonious and in tune with themself will cease to have any cellular degeneration.

When the Abraham Group is speaking through Esther Hicks, like other channelled entities such as Kryon, a lot of analogies are used to describe complex life situations.

Dreams are considered important to the Abraham Group - "A dream is your reemergence back into Nonphysical, achieving vibrational alignment with who you are then."

Teachings in Brief

These are the basic Abraham's teachings in brief, as outlined by the Abraham-Hicks group:

  1. You are a Physical Extension of that which is Non-physical.
  2. You are here in this body because you chose to be here.
  3. The basis of your life is Freedom; the purpose of your life is Joy.
  4. You are a creator; you create with your every thought.
  5. Anything that you can imagine is yours to be or do or have.
  6. You are choosing your creations as you are choosing your thoughts.
  7. The Universe adores you; for it knows your broadest intentions.
  8. Relax into your natural Well-being. All is well. (Really it is!)
  9. You are a creator of thoughtways on your unique path of joy.
  10. Actions to be taken and money to be exchanged are by-products of your focus on joy.
  11. You may appropriately depart your body without illness or pain.
  12. You can not die; you are Everlasting Life.
