:OK, you've made yourself clear. Is there an appeal process to your edict? -- ] 10:10, 20 June 2006 (UTC) :OK, you've made yourself clear. Is there an appeal process to your edict? -- ] 10:10, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

::I will speak to you then, though that as an "appeal" would seem to be subject to ... uh ... conflict of interest. Here is the situation: a review of IronDuke's edits to the ] page and elsewhere, which no admin seems willing to undertake, will show a pattern of removing and reverting entirely balanced, verifiable, and reliable edits in favor of his own point of view, which is definitively anti-Arab. He has been accused of this since last November (see his Talk page). He is a frequent partisan on pages such as ] and such. Since I once lived in Portland, when I first saw the Hawash page and IronDuke adding such things as large quotes from right wing nutcases like David Reinhard, quotes pulled from blogs, and a general negative slant, I did what I thought Misplaced Pages was all about: edited to improve the page, and I did so from whatever IP address I was using. I also looked at IronDuke's other edits for a similar anti-Arab bias, and in a few cases made other minor edits. I do not see how this qualified as "wikistalking", as you and he put it. I assumed that my edits here would be judged on their own merits, and I still do not understand why they are not. However, I immediately was called a "sockpuppet" (which I thought applied to people running multiple accounts) and a "stalker", and IronDuke got the page protected. IronDuke has driven other editors (Jersyko and Anomicene) away from the page with similar tactics. So what I get from you is all I or anyone needs to do is camp on a page, call anyone who disagrees a "sockpuppet", accuse them of "stalking" me, and then I can revert whatever they do with impugnity! All of this place it says: "discuss the edits, not the editor". I do not see how your ban on me will do anything other than allow a biased editor to own an ever-widening set of pages. Finally, I appreciate this opportunity to sound off, but I am serious about an appeal -- surely Misplaced Pages has a process by which an editor like IronDuke can be held to account? I would like to know what it is. The "Request for Comment" process (which I did) and "Request for Mediation" (which someone else seems to be doing) seem to be useless, as the former has attracted no comments and the latter requires the transgressor's cooperation. So what is the process -- or do you also, after a careful review of IronDuke's edits, believe he alone should edit those pages? -- ] 10:46, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Talk:Heaven's Stairway#Ownership of Overgrow.com web site in dispute

This is really crazy. The person Viriditas is editing out comments made in the discussion page. I can't even continue the discussion if comments are being removed. All I can do now is highlight that the whole section is being censored by one person. Others have already mentioned the same sources and yet Viriditas is trying to manipulate the entire article on hiw own. I am leaving it well alone as I do when other articles get to this stage of defacement. There is nothing I can do really. Thanks for any help!

Heading error

Hi, Commander, I started an entry which should have been "Skip Bifferty", but it came out "Skip bifferty". I do not know how to fix it. Can you help, please?  :-) Sweetalkinguy 13:58, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for removing my out-of-context answer at the New contributors' help page regarding standard city layout - I obviously was not paying attention to what the question was referring to! :) -- Natalya 19:39, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

delete

Yes, go ahead and delete it as a Misplaced Pages entry:

I have a suggestion in Misplaced Pages policy and programming. If you go to a page that has a template on it and click "what links here", all the links in the Template now appear in the "What links here" query. I want to see links that appear on the template to be excluded for the "What links here" query. Try a search yourself. If there is no template on a page you get useful results. If there is a template with dozens of other links the useful information is obscured. If I go to Raritan Landing, New Jersey and hit "What links here" I now see the dozens of other towns from the template, and I miss the usefull information of what pages actually have an embedded link in the text of "Raritan Landing". If you have a suggestion of a better forum to discuss this change, please tell me who I should talk to.

I will report it as a bug. Did you try it, and see how confusing it is? You want to find related information, and you end up finding dozens of unrelated, or periphorally related items. Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) 00:19, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Dab problems update

Question for you. I finished Cross-Country which is listed as a problem dab. Is there anything I need to do now? It's not part of the most recent dump so I can't move it to finished there, so I'm not sure if there's anything I need to do or just wait for the script to run again. Metros232 02:30, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, I'll leave a message for RussBlau about it and let you know if/when I get an answer. Metros232 02:39, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Altering talk page entries

Still concerned. My signature stamp was removed, my entry was reformatted, and my earlier comments were combined, so that comment added on at a later time was less noticeable. Sandy 13:11, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Dazed and confused

Commander, Perhaps you can help me. I noticed that a template {otherplaces2|Hayward} is being used in the Hayward, California article. The template generates a link to Hayward (disambiguation) that then gets redirected to Hayward because the article was moved. Is there a move afoot to take "(disambiguation)" out of article titles? If so, the templates should be changed to reflect that. Or am I missing something? Thanks! Schmiteye 18:36, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation and the pointers to the guidelines. That helps! Schmiteye 23:05, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Iser

Hello Commander! Would you mind taking a look at Iser (disambiguation)? Iser redirects to Wolfgang Iser, although I'm not sure why; ISER brings up more Iser Google hits than Wolfgang Iser, although the word "Iser" seems sufficiently uncommon to have a primary meaning. Hence, my preference for moving Iser (disambiguation) to Iser. Olessi 19:04, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

recent vandalism

Hi Commander Keane,

Someone has created the username Gurunath (talk · contribs) and is vandalizing the Yogiraj Gurunath Siddhanath pages. I think this person is a sockpuppet of Baba Louis (talk · contribs), who is continuously removing the npov tag on the Gurunath page. But I don't know for sure. Any suggestions? Hamsacharya dan 01:47, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Could you please look at this?

An article named Tredosoft has been created. Tredosoft seems to be a small, recently started company by one person. It seems to me that its a vanity article made by the owner of the company himself Yousif (Yousifnet). IMO the article is not notable. Whats your opinion?

Shijaz 07:37, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello Shijaz, so we meet again. Coincidence? :). Anyway, anyone please discuss this on my user talk. Thanks --Yousifnet 08:37, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Harry

Hi Commander. Can you explain what you mean, or point me at one which is done properly in your view, then I can get on and fix the page.

I do think there is a bigger issue, as I have alluded: it is normal in reference sources that people are indexed Surname, Forename. When called by their second name, this is highlighted thus: McCartney, James, Paul. It comes a bit unstuck when you have a band Jethro Tull as well as an agrarian Tull, Jethro and there are possible issues with non-European usages, such as Zaheer Abbas. I think that sooner or later Misplaced Pages is going to have to grab this nettle and fall into line with the traditional method of sequencing by surname.

Swinford Ireland

Hi just trawling the net and say your post about an article on the Lovsfest in Swinford Co. Mayo, and as one of the organisers would love to have it included in yor encyclopedia. As it is a free festival this is not a corporate thing and is just a group of music enthuasists coming together to organize something exciting in a small town in the west of Ireland. If you want to google it try swinford lovefest which brings up some related articles two or three in local papers which should conform that is what I have said it to be. There is also an article on h2g2 called lovfest ireland which may help. Thanks for your time and would really appreciate it if an article on it was included in Misplaced Pages. If you wanted you can contact me lovefest05@hotmail.com

Vandal fighting idea

(from Funnybunny's page) I've got an idea to fight vandals! And, you, Funnybunny have done so much anti-vandal work! What if the Counter-Vandalism Unit elected Generals, and after getting much bigger, Lieutenants, Sergeants, etc. But a General would send a code through the levels, like 45.m.K would be "hit random article and look for vandalism". or 86.p.2 would be "fall back and quit searching like a wild maniac". What do you think?-Sabertiger 02:38, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Sounds nice. It can get the vandals confused about the codes. Funnybunny (talk/Vote for this policy) 02:43, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Improvment-Each level on the Wikidefcon will indicate a code. Peace, orders are in English. 4 every other letter, etc., maybe.

Okay, we could give this info to General Eisenhower. Funnybunny (talk/I want you to join the QRVS) 03:07, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Hi Commander Keane,

Cultural history / Kulturgeschichte

Kulturgeschichte is the original term for Cultural history, there is no need for an English language article or definition for Kulturgeschichte. This is a German concept that created the English language discipline. I'm resetting the link to the German language article, don't let your bot reset it to wikitionary since it is redundant.

Thank You!

Your technical assistance on combining the St. Francis and Ozark National Forest pages into one was invaluable. The Misplaced Pages how-tos can be hard to navigate some times, and the last thing I want to do is cause a technical snafu by accident. Kh1fiend

Can you please talk with this guy? He's completely oblivious to the way Misplaced Pages works. I've tried to talk to him, but he simply ignores me. Perhaps an admin would actually make a impact on him.

To clarify, he is intent in preserving his article, Roxas Rox and Super Sora (the title of, by the way, is complete nonsense) to the point that he is inappropriately using Articles for Deletion and moving it around haphazardly.

He originally butchered the Roxas disambig page, which I reverted. He then created Roxas Kingdom hearts, which I prod'd, it being redundant with Organization XIII. Another user moved the page to Roxas (Kingdom hearts), which caused Kh1fiend to think it was deleted by me, and brought in ForestH2, who was also convinced that it was deleted by me and slapped me with a warning that assured me that I would be blocked the next time I "deleted" another of Kh1fiend's articles. I tried to have some actual discussion with Forest, but he simply branded all of my edits to his talk page as vandalism, immediately archiving all of my comments and hiding behind weak arguments such as my "track record" and that I was opressing his right to decide whatever goes on his talk page.

I'm at my limit and I don't know what to do now. Help, please? ' 22:45, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Actully, you don't seem to be listening to me....I've looked at the page and I disagree with Kh1fiend, all your notes are very annoying. Well, your track record....and I really think your temper needs to CALM down. ForestH2

My "temper" is Forest's new ad hominem, as you can see. ' 00:03, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

To Commander Keane

Commander Keane, Kh1fiend created this article and Apostrophe decided to nominate it for deletion. Kh1fiend returned to the article and objected the request stating in the edit summary nothing. He then concluded to go onto Apostrophe's talk page, and write him a note saying that he doesn't nominate articles for deletion....it's not Apostrophe's job to nominate articles for deletion...meaning he is sort of clueless about Misplaced Pages. I talked to Feeling Chatty? thinking: Who's this on the talk page?....Shouldn't apostrophe be on here? I go up to the edit history and have to play a mixing and matching game trying to figure out why Apostrophe signs as Feeling Chatty. I was thinking more likely he should sign as Apostro or something....I got innto an arguement and then I proceeded to move his notes into my archived discussions and he vandalizes my page by recreating it on the talk page. No authority for him to do anything like that he doesn't decide what's on my archive discussions and regular talk page. He keeps using bad use of edit summaries and I see that he is not very friendly with other users during his first block and after that so his temper rises to often. However his temper needs to be CALMED down. And....Kh1fiend is sort of clueless. ForestH2

Fallout and Question

Commander_Keane, The response to my thank you to User:AlexR was less than I hoped. I have not responded to the inflammatory remarks and have placed a {{Calm talk}} on the top of both Talk:Voice feminization and Talk:Cisgender and will be slowing down a bit with what I do on Misplaced Pages. Since all that seems to happen with AlexR when I try to use logic is that it seems infuriate him, and wastes my time in the bargain, I will be making more selective and much shorter responses. ..... My Question in general is how to gain help here on Misplaced Pages. I used the {{helpme}} on my usertalk page, but as a hacker (good sense of the word) I do not require that I be held by the hand, but instead just told where to go (humor intended). I have looked through help on the navigation menu on the left of the screen, and am starting to get comfortable with wiki-markup-language (variation of HTML) but I still will have questions that only more experienced users or administrators can help with. ..... so, is there a wrong way to ask, or can I use {{helpme}} when I need to find out what is the correct way to do something? FemVoice 21:20, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you, and a followup question about user subpages

Thank you for your immediate response to my {{helpme}}.

Your response, copied (slightly modified) from User:Vibo56's talk page:

Generally {{helpme}} is to be used with building the encyclopedia (not userpages etc) but I can see you are working on something interesting there.
Place <br clear="all" /> directly above a section header will stop stuff overslapping - have a play with it.
To work on an aritcle in your userspace you can do so on a user subpage. Eg just start User:Vibo56/Sandbox, or User:Vibo56/relevant-headline etc.--Commander Keane 10:42, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
I have followed your suggestion, and realise that I could link to such subpages from my main user page. I also realise that I might chose not to link to a subpage, leaving it in an orphaned state, and for practical purposes inaccessible for other users. Is keeping such orphaned pages in my userspace considered appropriate, (1) for a personal sandbox, (2) for a personal archive of discussions on the reference desk that I have found particularly helpful, and (3) for a new article that I am preparing? --vibo56 11:38, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
After posting this, I became aware of Special:Prefixindex, allowing other users to locate "orphaned" subpages within my userspace, but I would still like to know if the usage of "orphaned" subpages that I listed is considered appropriate. Another question: I assume that it would be considered inappropriate for other users to create subpages within my userspace, but is it possible without resorting to major hacking? --vibo56 12:00, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

re: I really have no idea what you are talking about. --Commander Keane 06:37, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
I've been welcoming a while now, and cleaned up some errata and oversights (like listing WP:NOOB, the Welcoming committee et. al. in the list of shortcuts) when I found this old uncool (not 'P.C.') name for today's 'Misplaced Pages:New contributors' help page' (which you patrol regularly, and I do occasionally).
Since newbies are unlikely to use such an insensitive name for themselves, it struck me that the redirect @, might be better used to redirect into the special page 'listing newbie article edits' vice it's current 'relatively useless' purpose. (What Links Here is essentially a trivial handful of mostly archieved pages). Alternatively, perhaps it should just be deleted, now that 'NCH' has both Help page and welcome template visibility?
So NBD, but since I believe you were a party to the discussions over at Meta, and perhaps the above redirect you created (in the first link I dropped above) was in fact the 'Page Move' to the new title, you seemed like the right person to ask for reaction to my thought since the redirect has little utilityb from what I can see. Folks have had time now to 'adjust' to the new page title, and seems to me one of those would be a better choice. Best regards // FrankB 12:41, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for helping me out a second time with Misplaced Pages. I only edit this thing when I can't sleep, so I'm glad there's someone all the way out in Australia helping me out when I'm confused and it's 4 AM.--Cassmus 09:53, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

My welcome message

Ok. I'm removing your name on the template. Anonymous_anonymous_Have a Nice Day 10:03, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

I hate to bother you

I try to be a reasonable person and I do not want you to intervene for me, but can you give me some guidelines of when a dispute should go to arbitration. I have read Misplaced Pages:Resolving disputes but as an administrator in another realm, I understand that policy is arbitrated by people who sometimes ignore the letter and follow more of there feelings. Since I am new, I do not have a feel for how the governing body here would take to someone new asking for mediation. Frankly, I consider it a waste of time, except that for some strange reason I really would like[REDACTED] to be a good piece of writing and not like all of the cyberjunk that is floating around.

Sockpuppet

I believe I have come across a new sockpuppet of Bugman94:

Mr. Cookie

A quick message he left and then deleted on my talk page, which can be found in my talk page history here clearly suggests that this is the same user.

A quick look through the user's talk page makes it 100% evident that these users are the same. Bubbles2430 appears to be another sockpuppet. Also, after I posted an alert on his talk page, he blanked it. --—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Electrified mocha chinchilla (talkcontribs) . 22:20, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
Please respond to this ASAP. Mr. Cookie just won't stop. He's not vandalizing; instead, he wants a mediation because I'm "mean" to him, and wants his user page temporarily protected. Your input? --—The preceding unsigned comment was added by EMC (talkcontribs) . 01:58, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
A discussion is proceeding in WP:ANI#Possible_sockpuppet_evading_block.3F. The identity as a sockpuppet has pretty much been confirmed. Cowman109 04:13, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Farewell for now...

I am getting set to leave for New York City by 11 o'clock. I won't be with you Wikipedians until tomorrow morning. After clearing my user page, my next edits will be based in America.

So long...and thanks for all the fish. Bye! --Slgrandson 10:49, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Oops, I REALLY Need Help Now

I did not realize that the Helpme template I saw was general for everyone so I deleted it, thinking I just created one by asking for help. I deleted it when I ironically decided to ask for help here since I do not know how to write my questions when I post "Helpme". Can it be restored and should I worry? Coordinates

First off, thank you for helping me. The only place I've been able to find coordinates just has the coordiantes as 39.06 lat -86.26 lon. Do you have any suggestions as to where to find the missing parameters, or how to make it work without them? The clickable link from the infobox works, it takes you to a map that shows it in the right place. ONUnicorn 20:14, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you so much! I see the difference; after coor, each letter stood for something. I didn't have the parameters for s, so it had the 7 and the 8 there, but getting rid of the s got rid of the need for the 7 and the 8. Thank you!!!

ONUnicorn has smiled at you! Smiles promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day better. Misplaced Pages:Community Portal

Hi, there's something wrong with the HTML of Misplaced Pages:Community Portal. It causes the page to be about 5 feet wide. IE 5, Windows 95. This is a new computer. (Also, it doesn't get the editing tool bar.)--Chuck Marean 15:40, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Okay

I would have put it on an admin's page, I just assumed it wasn't the norm. Anyway, the edit summary here has an email in it. --69.145.123.171 21:47, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

I wasn't sure about it, and the only reason I listed it was because I thought there was a policy against emails and such in edit summaries.--69.145.123.171 21:58, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Request for assistance

Jim, a nice user tried to fix a disambig mess by redirecting Suffix to Suffix (linguistics), but in the process he cut-and-pasted the old contents of the ] page to Suffix (disambiguation). The correct way to do this would have been to move ] to ] and then create a new ] redirecting to the linguistics article. I tried to fix it, but he intervened and now the edit histories are all tangled up. Can you clean up the mess? --Russ Blau (talk) 22:32, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Help me help a newcomer

An interesting discussion is developing at Misplaced Pages:New contributors' help page#How do I start a new topic or article?. Since you always seem to have the right answers for newcomers, your assistance would be greatly appreciated. --TantalumTelluride 03:27, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Help_desk#some_newly_uploaded_images_do_not_show_in_file.

unfortunately i do not know how to either purge/unpurge these images and i don't know how to upload to Misplaced Pages commons. i am an electrical engineer but i'm not much of and don't want to be a computer geek. it was hard enough just to figure out these drawing tools. can you spell this out for me? (i'll watch this page or you can respond at my page.) r b-j 17:20, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

thanks for your response. i'll try to follow your directions. i noticed that resizing to some pixel widths (>194 <176) did make it work but it's important that all drawings have the same x-axis scale. thanks again. r b-j 23:51, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
el-Commandante, could you speedy delete these images from the English Misplaced Pages (they were all uploaded by me yesterday)? :

Newcomers' help page archive

Hi, you said here that part of the page has beed archived – but that part of archive seems not listed at Misplaced Pages:Clueless newbies/Archive page. Also I can not find it among All pages under Special:Allpages/Wikipedia:Newcomers help or under Special:Allpages/Wikipedia:Clueless newbies (where the older archive parts are listed). Where should I look for it? --CiaPan 17:13, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

BTW, the WP:CN page redirects to Misplaced Pages:Common knowledge, but in some places it is linked as clueless newbie page, which seeme wrong. Where should I report it? CiaPan

Protected redirects

My main comment about protected redirects are that they clutter up Category:Protected. Not all protected redirects are listed there, but all (or almost all) protected pages are. There should be a category for protected redirects much like there are cats for protected pages and salted pages. Calwatch 05:05, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

IronDuke

Why should IronDuke get to "own" those pages? He is driving other editors off with the same claim -- everyone he doesn't like is a sockpuppet. Is this the Misplaced Pages way -- let the loudest voice win? -- BlindVenetian 09:52, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

OK, you've made yourself clear. Is there an appeal process to your edict? -- BlindVenetian 10:10, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
I will speak to you then, though that as an "appeal" would seem to be subject to ... uh ... conflict of interest. Here is the situation: a review of IronDuke's edits to the Mike Hawash page and elsewhere, which no admin seems willing to undertake, will show a pattern of removing and reverting entirely balanced, verifiable, and reliable edits in favor of his own point of view, which is definitively anti-Arab. He has been accused of this since last November (see his Talk page). He is a frequent partisan on pages such as Islamofacism and such. -- BlindVenetian 10:46, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
