==Renaming places== | |||
Please stop renaming places (e.g. Pandavapura -> Pandavapur which I've just reversed) on your own initiative. In general, you should always raise a discussion, especially for a long standing article, and see if there are any objections. The fact that multiple spellings exist shows that there is no 'one size fits all' policy, and the claim that there is any official 'Government of India' spelling is just not so. Thanks. ] (]) 20:27, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
*'''comment''' Hello imc, Saying that Government of India spellings are not official is a part of schizophrenic propaganda. If you do not agree with the spellings used by Govt of India for places, then start a movement to get them changed with the Govt instead of changing on Misplaced Pages. A long standing article may not be the authentic one. pdh 15:45, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
I agree with user Imc. This user is changing native names to make it sound more English, and the official Govt of Karnataka claim he makes is a joke. Please revert back all your changes to the original names. Start a discussion and you will see how many people don't agree with you. You may also be required to prove your point to an neutral admin that these names you claim are "official", are actually official, by scanning Govt records for the benefit of the discussion. If you continue not to heed this advice you maybe blocked from editing. — Preceding ] comment added by ] (]) 14:21, 19 February 2014 (UTC)
*'''Comment''' Cannot consider your unsigned comments. You may visit websites of India Post and Govt. of Karnataka, you will see what spelling is being used by the Government. If you feel that the spellings mentioned on those websites is incorrect, kindly work with Govt. of Karnataka and Govt. of India to get them changed instead of pushing your thought on Misplaced Pages. pdh 15:45, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

== Speedy deletion nominations ==
I have just declined 5 speedy deletion nominations you made. They were all made under the ] criterion. The problem is that they were all villages. To be eligible for A7, the subject has to be one of a select set of subjects, real person, individual animal(s), organization, web content or organized event. Named places are not one of those subjects and therefore are not eligible for deletion under this. Please review the ] before nominating anything more for deletion. ] ] 23:33, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
== Unilateral moves == | |||
This is further to the recent renames you made. You will be aware from the previous comments by myself and others in regard to your prior moves (including those referred to above in this discussion) that your moving of Kannada names and places in Karnataka could be contentious. I previously asked that you first raise a discussion about any contentious move. The responses to my comments and your move request for Sagara, show that your moves could be contentious. For any article that has been there for some time (e.g. 8 years for Krishnapura, near Udupi, one of those that you moved with the explanation ‘spelling correction’), you should not assume that it is a mere spelling anomaly that no one else had seen for all this time.
There may be some reason for moving some of these articles one way or other, but you have not so far given any reason that is in line with Misplaced Pages policies. See ]. You should also be aware of the guidelines about moving articles ].
I note also from some of your comments that you seem to be lacking in understanding about Kannada pronunciation (e.g. your claim at ] that the Kannada ‘ಸಾಗರ' would be written Sagar in English), and which also suggest that you are confusing Kannada pronunciation with that of Hindi. It is absolutely not the case that final ‘a’ is dropped in Kannada as in Hindi. Krishnapura and Sagara would both be pronounced locally as written in this post. It is also not the case that a government spelling exists that should be followed, and your cherry picking of spellings in official sites that support your claim weakens your arguments.
I have reversed some of your changes, again. As I can find time, I will look more closely at the remaining to see which it may be reasonable to leave. Meanwhile I suggest that if you want to carry on with your changes that you discuss them, either case by case or in a general way at a suitable location. Thank you.
