Adding or changing to "Administrative republic"

Anyone doing this is almost always someone, or a small group of editors, from Rio de Janeiro adding terms from the video game Europa Universalis. There are other government related labels they add, but I note that this is one you reverted recently. Dougweller (talk) 11:30, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. They are editing from a couple of IP ranges. They use various other terms. Any Rio IP is suspect, to be honest. Also occasional copyvio. Dougweller (talk) 13:49, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Posted this to another editor: For several years socks from Rio de Janeiro have been trying to add various terms from this videogame to articles, often (like the last few weeks) changing "autonomous republic" to "administrative republic". See - now I'm not accusing you of being one of those, obviously, but you did add the wiki for Europa Universalis III to Administrative republic, which until mid February was Autonomous republic until a brand new editor came along and changed it. Since then a number of IP socks have been editing it. I'm not happy with that. It still contains a couple of country names which use 'autonomous' and not 'administrative', and although for Yugoslavia 'administrative' is sourced, most sources call them 'autonomous'.

I generally don't like undiscussed name changed, and this one was immediately jumped on by obvious socks. I'm tempted to revert, any comments? Dougweller (talk) 20:19, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.

Recent changes

• You can now create books on almost all wikis. It doesn't work yet on wikis using the language converter.
• VisualEditor had problems with categories in Safari. It sometimes moved or removed the categories. The issue is now fixed.

Changes this week

• The new version of MediaWiki has been on test wikis and MediaWiki.org since March 4. It will be on non-Misplaced Pages wikis from March 10. It will be on all Wikipedias from March 11 (calendar).
• In VisualEditor the "Edit " button is now called "Edit" on the English Misplaced Pages.
• The feedback tool in VisualEditor now looks like the other tools. It also asks for information about your browser to help fix bugs.
• You now see the VisualEditor toolbar even if the rest of the page is still loading.
• You now see more information when you edit a link, a reference or other items in VisualEditor. You also see a clearer edit button in those tools.
• If you use the ContentTranslation tool you now see red links in the list of articles in other languages. The link is red if the article doesn't exist in the language of your options or of your browser. You can translate the article by clicking on the red link.

Meetings

• You can read the notes from the last meeting with the VisualEditor team.
• You can join the next weekly meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meetings you can tell developers which bugs are the most important. The meeting will be on March 11 at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
• You can join a technical meeting in France in May. You can ask for help if you can't pay yourself.

So if an item has labels in many languages but no sitelinks like "male" and "female" it will still show up high in the suggestions. (phabricator:T94404)
  • Discussed how to move forward with identifiers. Outcome: They should get their own datatype. (phabricator:T95287)
  • Implemented arbitrary access for the {{#property:…}} parser function. This can be invoked on the wikis that have arbitrary access enabled by using {{#property:P123|from=Q42}}. So far this is only Wikidata itself.
  • Did further performance work on the client (Misplaced Pages and co) in preparation for arbitrary access
  • Improved the performance of wbgetentities significantly when loading a large number of entities
  • Wrote more browser tests for different datavalues

Chapaevka, Kamchatka Oblast (Holm, 87th Motor Rifle Division, 2015.) The Chapaevka vehicle/equipment stores were located at 53 03 19N, 158 49 35E. There does not appear to be any disambig stub for Chapaevka en generale, which may be an oversight considering it seems like it might be a relatively common Russian name. Over a thousand miles away from my home territory, but OK, close enough :) I've created Chapayevka, Russia, but please note that the place in Kamchatka Krai is currently a microdistrict of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (which is confusingly called a "settlement" of Chapayevka) and seems to have been merged into it at some point before 2001 (I couldn't find an exact date).   • Worked on making language fallback work in the suggester (when adding a new statement or searching for an item)
