I began a series of categories describing where a painting or collection of paintings is located. Misplaced Pages has categories for what style or nationality the painter derives from but not one for where the painting is physically located. there are categories localizing collections and museums to geographic locales, but there are paintings that exist outside of museums in publicly available sites (churches and administrative buildings). Finally a further question is whether paintings should be considered for category of monuments and memorials. Sculptures are part of this. As such, they then fall within spectrum of buildings and structures at a locale.
My endeavor in Italy is somewhat confused at present in that there is a category of Italian paintings in addition to Paintings in Italy. The topics are different, the former refers to the nationality of the creator, but to geographically localized both creates two large category trees. I now vote that I should not have tried to geographically localize "Italian paintings" but stick only to geographic locale of any painting, regardless of the nationality of the painter. At some point I would delete my beginning attempts to geographically localize Italian paintings, again and focus only on where is a painting localized, regardless of style, or nationality of artist.

NEW NOMINATIONS
I began a series of categories describing where a painting or collection of paintings is located. Category:Carthusian literature
- Propose Deleting Category:Carthusian literature
- Nominator's rationale: Per the spirit of WP:C1, an empty category.
- Misplaced Pages doesn't have even a single article about Carthusian literature by this Catholic order. There is technically one article in the category right now but it doesn't belong there: The Cloud of Unknowing is an anonymous work that may have been written by a prominent Augustinian or "it is possible he was a Carthusian priest, though this is not certain." Even if we get some archaeological confirmation of authorship, that still leaves us with 1 article which runs afoul of WP:SMALLCAT. (No objection to recreating later if we can get up to around 5 articles.) - RevelationDirect (talk) 10:42, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Note: Notified Quinto Simmaco as the category creator and this discussion has been included in WikiProject Catholicism. – RevelationDirect (talk) 10:42, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
Category:Philias
- Propose deleting Category:Philias - Template:Lc1
- Propose deleting Category:Philias - Template:Lc1
- Nominator's rationale: This appears to be a category for topics whose name (or one of several names) contains "philia". That's not how we normally categorize wp articles. DexDor 05:07, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Delete Per WP:SHAREDNAME unless we can build a category around Philia. RevelationDirect (talk) 10:51, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
Category:American animation with black protagonist
- Category:American animation with person of color as protagonist (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Category:American animation with black protagonist (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Category:American animation with Asian protagonist (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Category:American animation with Middle Eastern protagonist (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Category:American animation with Native American protagonist (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Category:American animation with Native Hawaiian as protagonist (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Category:American animation with multiracial protagonists (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Category:American animation with black protagonist (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
- Nominator's rationale: Grammatically incorrect. No opinion on whether this category should exist. If kept, it should at least be renamed to American animation with a black protagonist or something like that (but that still seems badly worded). Also no opinion on whether such a category, if it exists, should allow for the use of multiple protagonists over the duration of one cartoon. Hypothetically. ―cobaltcigs 01:27, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Update: tagged other related categories, listed entire tree above. ―cobaltcigs 08:58, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Comment. The current name is consistent with the other subcategories of Category:American animation with person of color as protagonist - perhaps they should be renamed/deleted as well. DexDor 05:52, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for your suggestion. I've penciled them in. ―cobaltcigs 08:58, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Comment: See, I had thought "person of color" was a deprecated term. There was something in the news recently about an actor referring to other actors as "coloured" and catching a lot of shit for it. If the intended meaning of the category is in fact "not white" maybe the category title should say that, somehow (just don't ask me on that). But only if we really want to have a parent-category-of-exclusion. Surely there's some way to avoid that? ―cobaltcigs 09:20, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
Category:New Orleans Jazz
- Propose deleting Category:New Orleans Jazz - Template:Lc1
- Propose deleting Category:New Orleans Jazz - Template:Lc1
- Nominator's rationale: New Orleans Jazz is synonymous with Dixieland, which is already covered by Category:Dixieland. Ibadibam (talk) 00:00, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Question @Ibadibam:, what if anything used to be in the category. RevelationDirect (talk) 01:08, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for reminding me to cover that. The sole member of the category, as I found it today, was Dixieland. That is to say, the article Dixieland was a member of Category:New Orleans Jazz, which in turn is a member of Category:Dixieland. The category under discussion was originally about the basketball team, but this was cut-and-paste moved to Category:New Orleans Jazz (NBA team) (see diff). Ibadibam (talk) 01:29, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- This was original a category for the basketball team that moved to Utah. It has no business existing in this form.--Mike Selinker (talk) 03:04, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Convert to Redirect I'm open to turning it back into a redirect to Category:Utah Jazz basketball team. RevelationDirect (talk) 09:47, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
- Delete – New Orleans Jazz is a dab page with several meanings. Oculi (talk) 12:28, 12 January 2016 (UTC)
