    Shortcuts

    Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

    After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

    Temporary Full Page Protection (5-days): Persistent disruptive editing, third time, on Bach article and Talk page by User:Francis Schonken. A new RfC is currently open at Johann Sebastian Bach with 4-5 editors in support of changes with citations added to the proposed text in the previous RfC, and two editors Opposed User:Martindale and User:Francis Schonken. One of the editors, User:Francis has returned to edit warring on the Talk page despite warning from User:Softlavender to follow RfC policy and guideline. In addition, two previous Full page protection from User:Ymblanter and User:MusikA previously issued for User:Francis to stop edit warring and to encourage him to participate in the open RfC have been ignored. Instead, User:Francis is now disruptively editing the RfC in order to deflect any new editors from participating. Virtually all new editors have been deflected over the week-end from participation due to the disruptive editing by User:Francis. I have returned the RfC to normal format and requested that editor comments be placed in the Comment Section of the RfC following the Support-Oppose section but User:Francis ignores this and reverts it. User:Francis is apparently now pretending to be the originator and author of the RfC by edit warring.

    Request here is made for temporary Full Page Protection for the article for 5-days and a cautionary warning to User:Francis to follow RfC guidelines and policies since a preliminary warning was already made by User:Softlaverder to User:Francis concerning this matter.     Misplaced Pages:Manual of Style/Images

    Temporary semi-full-protection: Bringing this here from WP:ANI. Editors dispute some changes that BushelCandle and EEng have made to the Misplaced Pages:Manual of Style/Images guideline page about size and location, and there is currently a RfC going on about the size aspect of the guideline. See Misplaced Pages talk:Manual of Style/Images#Fixing images below the default size and Misplaced Pages talk:Manual of Style/Images#RfC: Should the guideline maintain the "As a general rule" wording or something similar?. Permalinks here and here. EEng is steadily making significant changes to the guideline without consensus, and I feel that the page needs full protection to cease this disruption to the guideline page until the RfC is over and/or until other matters are worked out on the guideline talk page.     If the latter, then this would seem excessive and smacks of filibustering when, overtly, only a small part of a subsection seems to be the subject of ongoing dispute and discussion. It also seems unnecessary when a conciliatory proposal has been made with regard to this small part of a subsection and remains unanswered at the time of writing this.     BushelCandle, I meant full protection. Semi-protection would not stop editors who are WP:Autoconfirmed, meaning those like you and me. And why the page needs full protection should be clear by this back and forth, and other contested changes going on at the guideline page, and this discussion going on at WP:ANI.     Thank you for that clarification that you wish to stop all editors updating and clarifying our Manual of Style section on images so that it conforms to our current policy on the topic. For exactly what period of time do you want to completely freeze the MoS page? 3 months, 6 months?     Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

    Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
