About Your Edits to Template:International schools in Pakistan

I reverted your edits to Template:International schools in Pakistan. Please create the pages first, then add them to the template. Thank you. --96.48.244.69 (talk) 02:17, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

Farflow

Hello. I happened to see you edit a lot of articles about or on Pakistan, but you're not Pakistani. Just randomly wondering, why do you have such a particular interest in our country? Have you lived or resided in Pakistan? Please don't take it the wrong way (I don't know why I thought asking this might be rude), but I was just randomly wondering. :O. --Farflow (talk) 20:57, 25 December 2015 (UTC)

Poramadulla Central College

I will help you to improve the page. There is an article with me written by odhathabandara. That will help you to improve the article. In User:Dendyard/Poramadulla There are names of principals in English and "Affirmation of Oath of School" in sinhalese and the school name in sinhala is "පොරමඩුල්ල මධ්‍ය මහා විද්‍යාලය" Dendyard (talk) 14:43, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

I don't edit the Sinhala Misplaced Pages. But I edit the Misplaced Pages related to Sri Lanka. If you want me to edit Sinhala, I can do it for you. Thank you. Dendyard (talk) 16:27, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

  • We're close to the 1,500 minimum character count for DYK. The place has been around since 1901, so we should be able to find more info. Please consider listing the article at DYK. -- Jreferee (talk) 01:32, 8 December 2013 (UTC)

Thank you

I wouldn't want you to think that I don't understand where you are coming from. It's often hard to find the happy medium between enforcing the guidelines and being officious; on the other hand, I could name several good editors who left because they didn't think we were coming down hard enough on vandalism. I do try quite hard to be helpful and I really don't mind being picked up on things now and again - it keeps me on my toes. Thanks again for your suggestions. Deb (talk) 16:55, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Documents

I left a message at my Talk Page with fuller answers to your questions. The short answer is that policies you asked about are covered in WP:CITEHOW.

BTW, Misplaced Pages style: we do not have a section of "References" which lists items which are already in the footnotes. See GENREF, Footnotes and References, Further references.

I also have questions about the WP:NOTABILITY of the article De l'un au multiple: Traductions du chinois vers les langues européenes, which is showing up in a number of other articles where it's certainly not notable. But that's for another time. Cheers, ch (talk) 00:27, 10 December 2013 (UTC)

Re : SF unified school district

Interesting! Apparently SF Unified School District has 2 buildings on Franklin (Map). The one I took a photo of is not 555 Franklin st, but 135 Van Ness Ave. I don't know what's the difference between them though. --Ciphers (talk) 19:25, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Poramadulla Central College

Updated DYK queryOn 26 December 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Poramadulla Central College, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Sri Lanka Minister of Sports, a graduate of Poramadulla Central College, announced in 2010 that the ministry would develop and upgrade the school's sports facilities? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Poramadulla Central College. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Article about a Ping Shan Leng Yan, maybe you are interested

Not much on WP yet about the Beauty-scholar novels, but you seem to be trying to fix that. So I thought you would be interested in this stub for Ping Shan Leng Yan, another popular example from the genre. I had a look around and it seems there's enough english-language scholarly sources to do a proper article, so I started one. - Metal lunchbox 16:24, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

Below find your comment left on my talk page, followed by my reply:

"" Hi! I found this discussion: User_talk:RJN#Why_are_you_.22freezing_out.22_anything_referring_to_Galveston I know that the name of the metro area has changed. It used to be Houston-Galveston-Brazoria (1990) and later it became Houston-Galveston-Baytown (2000). Now it's officially Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land because the cities of The Woodlands and Sugar Land have grown immensely. WhisperToMe (talk) 08:25, 3 December 2013 (UTC) ""

My reply: Hi ! Actually you are wrong. The OFFICIAL designation by the United States government is the Houston-Galveston area. Please google "H-GAC" or go here learn the truth. BTW, it is NOT that (the near All-White) The Woodlands and Sugar Land areas have "grown" so, it's the fact the census was taken a couple of years after Hurricane Ike devastated Galveston which caused the displacement of more than 10,000 people ! The recovery is well underway and the population in Galveston is returning. LazLong Sr (talk) 05:48, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

I have no idea what LazLong Sr is talking about. "Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, TX" is the official name given in this document, produced just eleven months ago. You can't get more official than that. Nyttend (talk) 01:11, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Ray Vance

I have no idea. You'll have to ask someone else, or you'll have to give me more context, because I've never heard of him. Nyttend (talk) 01:11, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

I tend to think not — I saw essentially no independent-and-substantial coverage in reliable sources. Perhaps he's been studied in some book or another, but if so I'm unaware of it. Nyttend (talk) 02:20, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Depiction of Jino (left) and Hui (right) people on a big poster in 2008

Here it goes! Mind you, the picture was taken in 2008; the poster, and the wall it used to hang on, are probably long gone, and a new high-rise building probably stands where the construction site was... -- Vmenkov (talk) 01:36, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

My Proposed Film Articles

I saw you took an interest in my suggestion that Misplaced Pages ought to create entries about a few films and therefore created an article about Invisible Adversaries. Thank you very much! You might be also interested therefore to know that I have already submitted to AfC my drafts of the four remaining films about which Misplaced Pages still has no articles (; ; ; ) from my original post you saw plus one more draft for another vey important Helma Sanders-Brahms art film (). 46.116.250.15 (talk) 22:06, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

Meanwhile, I have changed all the German titles of the films into their equivalent English ones in my proposed articles' texts. Could you please also change the entries' names accordingly? Apparently, only registered editors can do so. Thanks! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 17:32, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

For your consideration, here's my Gods of the Plague draft: . 46.116.250.15 (talk) 22:08, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you very much for approving that one so quickly! Only one film () left to go now! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 22:46, 17 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you very much for all your invaulable assistance! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 11:47, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

I've made a short edit request at a semi protected page. Would you be kind enough as to approve it? Thanks! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 13:46, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

There's an original poster of Wings at that film's entry in the Russian Misplaced Pages (and what seem like alternative ones here and here). Could you please add one of those to the corresponding English article? Also, I've found what seems to be the original poster of Das zweite Erwachen der Christa Klages here (plus two images which I'm not sure are really posters here and here), what seems to be the original poster of Flügel und Fesseln here, and what seems to be the original poster of Die Berührte here (alternative version here) and would thank you very much if you could add these too. Since I couldn't find original posters for the following films, are the DVD covers of Unsichtbare Gegner (here), Unter dem Pflaster ist der Strand (here), Mein Herz – niemandem! (here), and Das Erdbeben in Chili (here) a legitimate substitute in your opinion? Thanks! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 18:38, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you so very much for uploading the Wings poster! Someone else has meanwhile added Unter dem Pflaster ist der Strand's DVD cover to that film's article, so there are now only six left to go... Keep up the good work! 46.116.250.15 (talk) 19:07, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank you very much for uploading all these posters! Now the only thing left to do is to upload the DVD covers of Unsichtbare Gegner (here), Mein Herz – niemandem! (here), and Das Erdbeben in Chili (here). 46.116.250.15 (talk) 10:11, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Any progress regarding the uploading of the three remaining DVD covers? This is 46.116.250.15 here. Please note that my computer changes my IP address from time to time without me asking. 46.116.221.185 (talk) 11:17, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Once again, thank you so very much for all you invaluable assistance! 46.116.221.185 (talk) 22:14, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Hello again. I have recently made three minor semi-protected edit request (, , ). Would it be possible for you to approve them? Thanks! 46.116.221.185 (talk) 18:17, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Two of my proposals have been meanwhile cleared by other editors. Any progress regarding the last one? Thanks! 46.116.221.185 (talk) 15:49, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Well, long time no see... This is 46.116.221.185 again, I simply have a dynamic IP address. Hope everything's fine. Would you kindly mind helping me with a new film-related project I've been into for the last several months? Currently it only concerns uploading a few images... Thanks! PS: I have marked a section here (visible only via edit mode) where I beleive the photo from the Italian Wiki should go. 85.250.135.134 (talk) 15:47, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Many thanks! Now the only thing left is the photo from the Italian Wiki. 89.139.184.183 (talk) 14:18, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
I have marked a section of the plot section (visible in edit mode only) where I want the picture. It reads: "]." Many film articles (see, e.g., Persona) use such frames for mere illustration, but if you believe it doesn't pass fair use then I guess no significant harm is done. Many thanks again for your invaluable assistance! 89.139.184.183 (talk) 15:39, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
I have removed this mark for the time being until we'll see whether or not adding another picture is possible with regards to fair use regulations. 89.139.184.183 (talk) 17:50, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

As for the Italian source you found, that's great but unfortunately I do not speak that language. You'll have to take it to the translation centre where we'll see if it's usuble. 85.250.146.10 (talk) 15:43, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Here's Google Translate: "Turn the page with The Zero Years (Years zero) Nikos Nikolaidis. Can't speak Greek (or Spanish) unfortunately. I speak Hebrew, English, and German. PS: I'm not sure how reliable it is considered here, but this might help with all of his films. I have no idea where it's taken from (All I can see is that the short credits at the beginning of this clip do not mention Sarmiento). What I thought is that this clip can simpy be cited via the standard references system and that his statements could thus be used as sources when writing the articles. 85.250.146.10 (talk) 16:21, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Just noted, using Google Books, that the book you used while compiling The Zero Years also discusses both Ευριδίκη ΒΑ 2Ο37 and Τα Κουρέλια Τραγουδάνε Ακόμα. I also found that the later is further discussed here, here, and here and briefly mentioned here and in this journal article while the former is briefly mentioned in this Ph.D dissertation. Finally, I discovered you can find even more discussion of both if you login into Amazon and search their titles in this book. 85.250.146.10 (talk) 13:07, 3 December 2014 (UTC)

Alternative medicine

Not sure if you're still interested in this page (it's been over a month) but i've left a brief whinge that sums up the major issue. i.e the page currently uses a non-standard definition and because it's an emotive topic it's impossible to get it changed whatever evidence is provided. An FAQ wouldn't be much help as this is really the only issue. The page was in reasonable condition until Nov 2012 and since then some socking attacks have flooded it damage that's proved impossible to revert.Aspheric (talk) 17:25, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

Bosnians in St. Louis

Hi. I was considering making an article about Bosnian-Americans in St. Louis. However, I thought it might be good to include information on Serbs and Croats as well, since there doesn't seem to be enough information for three separate articles. What could that be titled? History of the Balkan peoples in St. Louis? History of the South Slavs in St. Louis? Or would it be best just to include information on Bosnians? I'm not sure how to go about this and thought you might have some ideas. If not, sorry for bothering you. Solar-Wind (talk) 02:23, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Update: There are associations and other organizations for Bosnians, Croats, and Serbs. There is some overlap, but for the most part the organizations are separate. Many of these ex-Yugoslavs in St. Louis came during the 1990s as refugees. There are around 70,000 Bosnians in the city, but I can't find the numbers for Croats and Serbs. The tricky thing is that while many of the immigrants from Bosnia are ethnic Bosnians (Bosniaks/Muslims), some are Bosnian Croats (Catholics) or Bosnian Serbs (Orthodox). So while many are from the country of Bosnia, they may identify with Bosnians as a group or they may identify with their own particular Serb or Croat culture. The identity issue here is complicated, as to be expected with people from the Balkans. Solar-Wind (talk) 12:54, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

Affirmative action in China

There is also a history of affirmative action in China for minorities. During the Qing dynasty, there were quotas for Miao, Yao and Muslim minorities on the Imperial examination especially after the 1784 rebellion by Jahriyya Sufi Muslims, (i'm working on the article about the 1781 and 1784 Jahriyya rebellions at User:Rajmaan/1781 Jahriyya Rebellion, Elman's books here are focused on the examination system in China and he is not a specialist on Muslims in China like historians such as J. N. Lipman or M. Dillon, he mischaracterizes the 1784 rebellion as a "Muslim separatist" revolt (it consisted of mainly just sectarian violence with no intention of "secession", like modern day sectarian violence in Iraq, as the sources at User:Rajmaan/1781 Jahriyya Rebellion show.

The articles on Miao Rebellion (1735–36) and Miao Rebellion (1795–1806) already exist so just link them there if you are going to describe the background.

There is a case in the Taizong Shilu during the Yongle Emperor's reign about Mongol military officers exempted from administrative work because of their illiteracy and still getting paid, so some Chinese pretended to be Mongols to avoid doing work.

These are secondary sources for the illiterate Mongols being exempted from work which you can use in the article as a citation, since the primary source (the statement from the Taizong Shilu) should only be used as a quotation.

Uyghurs in Beijing

The first Uyghur community in Beijing dates to the Qing dynasty starting in the 18th century, when the Uyghur leaders like Emin Khoja of Turfan allied and submitted to the Qing in order to fight against the Dzunghars in the Ten_Great_Campaigns#The_Zunghars_and_pacification_of_Xinjiang_.281755.E2.80.931759.29. The Qing then built a quarter for Uyghur aristocrats in Beijing near the Forbidden City and a community of them sprang up along with their followers.

Note that they weren't called "Uyghurs", because the name "Uyghur" was applied to these people in the 1920s, see Uyghur_people#Origin_of_modern_nationality. In contemporaneous western records in the 19th century, they called them "Turkish" or "Turk" (it was a common western habit to refer to all Turkic speaking peoples as Turkish until they came up with the word "Turkic" which is nowused in modern academia), and scholars today like Millward call them "East Turkestani" or "Altishahri" instead of Uyghur when referring to them before the 20th century, since calling them "Uyghur" would be an anachorism.

Follow-up regarding Giles

Greetings, Since our discussion on Giles I have a feeling that maybe most of the primary biographical sources regarding him are still offline/in Chinese? Apparently his chair in Cambridge was renamed in honour of Joseph Needham in 2008 to Joseph Needham Professorship of Chinese History, Science, and Civilization, the current holder being Roel Sterckx. Maybe Sterckx is the best person to query about the available sources regarding Giles, Other eminent sinologists and he himself (Sterckx is definitely notable enough to deserve a GA/even FA). I am guessing that if we ask Sterckx about the potential biographical sources about him, he will not turn us down? (Which academic will not want to see his own page on the front page of Misplaced Pages!!) What do you think? Solomon7968 07:46, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, User:Fowler&fowler first suggested me to email Michael Witzel directly for references for the article Wales Professor of Sanskrit. Perhaps if we can ask people like Sterckx or Witzel directly then they may help upload their respective University manuscript collections to Wikimedia Commons. That would be incredible! Solomon7968 08:47, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
P.S. I just emailed Roel Sterckx asking him to point sources about he himself, the Joseph Needham Chair and about Giles. Solomon7968 18:35, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

Photo requests: Hamtramck

I have taken and uploaded the photos you requested for Hamtramck, Michigan. They can be found on my sub-page at User:Notorious4life/Pending article3. Feel free to use them in anyway you'd like. Notorious4life (talk) 03:18, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

New photo requests

I checked out the new list of photo requests you have sent me, and there's never a list too long! Unfortunately, the length of sunlight, available days off work for awhile, and subzero temperatures might delay this picture-taking venture for some time. But, I will take care of it soon. Thanks! Also, as far as Wikimedia Commons is concerned, I've never been involved in that and don't know anything about it, except all my pictures seem to appear on there. Feel free to transfer any of my pictures to there. Notorious4life (talk) 23:39, 4 January 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Miriya Parina Sterling

The article Miriya Parina Sterling has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Misplaced Pages:General notability guideline and the more detailed Misplaced Pages:Notability (biographies) and Misplaced Pages:Notability (fiction) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back. Thank you,

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Je suis Charlie

Thank you for your message. Yes, its an awful event. But there is also a lot of hypochrysy :

  • The attacked newspaper Charlie hebdo was in a very bad economic situation. People were not very interested by it. The newspaper sells 60.000 newspapers a week.
  • Why other newspapers in the world do not publish the caricatures of Mahomet (which are at the origin of the threats against Charlie hebdo) ? Because they are afraid and do not dare ! These newspapers may pay royalties for the drawings to Charlie habdo in order to let Charlie hebdo go better and better.
  • Our president François Hollande has failed. Unemployment grows (10%). French debt also. The president has been asked "Are you on the right way ?". He answered : "We will see at the end of my presidence" (!). He has decided to dont work anymore about economy but about ecology (!) and for the international conference in december 2015. So I am sure that he is delighted to have a subject to speak about. However, for these problems of terrorism, the president doesnt do anything : interior ministry and police do the job. But our president may gently speak.
  • During the greetings for the new year, the president said : "when Frenchmen are gathered, France wins". And now with these events, the president says that Frenchmen must be gathered themselves after these awful events. He speaks, he speaks and the economy of France get worse and worse.

Comment

Thanks for the note. I think there is not a proper context in the section to include that information. You might create a context, at the very least expanding the list for the number of inmigrants sorted by citizenship until it reaches japanese people, ideally picking a reliable secondary source that highlights some features of the japanese community within the main topic "Demographics of Madrid". It is not possible to archive http://www1.folha.uol.com.br/folha/bbc/ult272u42891.shtml because the website does not allow to archive its pages (message says: The caching attempt failed for the following reason: The given URL contained a no-cache tag. However, seems to be that archive.is could archive that page (http://www.archive.today/F0gVp The question is if it is allowed to put archiveis pages in Misplaced Pages. --Zerabat (talk) 16:09, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

international school stubs

Hallo, while stub-sorting I've found a lot of recent international school stubs which you've created. I wonder if you'd consider adding a specific stub tag? For almost every country "{{countryname-school-stub}}" is a valid template. Could I suggest that you add that, instead of {{stub}}, and if it comes back as a non-existent template then leave it as the plain "stub" and a stub-sorter will sort it. That way you'd take the routine cases out of the workstream, with just a few more keystrokes from you, rather than someone else opening the file, editing, adding an edit summary, saving it. How about it? Thanks. PamD 11:23, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

Hallo again - could you please remember that stub tags go at the end, after categories, not before them? Per WP:ORDER. Makes it easier for stub-sorters or anyone else to find them, and saves stub-sorters the bother of moving them to the right place. Thanks. PamD 11:32, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

@PamD: Hi! Sorry... I thought that the stub tag goes before the categories. I'll remedy this and put the stub tags after the categories. As for the specific stub tag I'll remember countryname-school-stub and use it from now on! Thanks for the notice! WhisperToMe (talk) 14:36, 18 January 2015 (UTC)

"Anglophone" re schools/school districts

Please take out "Anglophone" from your peppering of articles with that as you have been doing today; it sounds odd outside of Quebec, and belies the fact that nearly all school districts have French immersion programs, and also native-language and other-language programs/certifications. The term has a POV ring to it, and is part of central Canadian/Quebecois language politics.

If you're going to improve/expand education sections with francophone-oriented content you should look at all items here e.g. Burnaby's French immersion programs, Central Okanagan SD's French immersion programs - note the high school, among others.Skookum1 (talk) 07:01, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Schools, including Deux Rives, should generally only be redirects to the governing school board, or in that case the governing organization, the societe francophone. Unless a school has notability e.g. incidents, architecture, etc in its own right, they are supposed to be redirected and do not warrant stand-alone articles. I like others who live and have lived in BC know that French immersion has been offered for a long time because my friends' kids and my nieces' and cousins' kids take it......but to you, that's "original research"...but some better googling and learning our terminology would have been a good thing before you started adding a POVism and rather POVish content, however minimal; and Category:French-language_schools_in_British_Columbia is there, but again, that is mistitled as those are not language schools teaching French, but schools where French curriculum is available.Skookum1 (talk) 07:08, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

also note, and this will differ from town to town, SD to SD, Punjabi programs Chinese programs Aboriginal education programs and more.Skookum1 (talk) 07:11, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Never mind, I just spent 40 minutes picking up after you as I know you will disregard my advice as you have before; those sections do need information on French immersion and Punjabi/aboriginal/European/Asian language programs which apparently you didn't even consider might exist when you imposed the Quebec-ism "Anglophone" on them.Skookum1 (talk) 07:55, 23 January 2015 (UTC)

Canadian school system

Regarding this discussion: the terms Anglophone/Francophone and English/French are not equivalent (the first set of terms refer to the first language one learns to speak), and even in Quebec it is more common to refer to English/French schools. Thus I believe using the terms English/French is more instructive for readers.

On a side note, constitutionally, the provinces were guaranteed the right to organize schools along denominational lines; Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador sought and obtained amendments to organize them along linguistic lines for the former, and a single non-denominational board for the latter. isaacl (talk) 14:51, 24 January 2015 (UTC)

Skookum1

Can we please put an end to this feud? I have no idea who started it or why, and I don't care, but it needs to stop. I've just asked Skookum what it would take to end this, and now I'm asking you. Any ideas? I've just told Skookum that I think your age differences are contributing to the communication problem. Viriditas (talk) 06:05, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

@Viriditas:, thank you for the message. It's not only his perception of the age difference, but that he believes I as an outsider (not from British Columbia) have less authority than him in the topics he edits. Another factor is that I was a "newcomer" to the topic (initially I didn't know the proper vocabulary for "Indo-Canadian").
1. Others (not only me) told him that what is written in reliable sources is the deciding factor on what gets included, what the name of an article should be, and what the scope of the article should be... not where someone is from, or who they know, or how old someone is. He should be comfortable with allowing people younger than him and not from where he is to have a say in substantial decisions about the topic. Absorbing those attitudes I think would go a long way. I also think that if he reviews the exact words of WP:OR (WP:OR does not mean a "lie" but it means information not published in books/articles) it will go a long way.
2. I also suggested he follow the requirement for page citations for specific facts in books (it not only applies to quotes, but any fact that can be challenged). Pagecites are often necessary when trying to resolve content disputes. He does not possess any of the books he's citing from, so it's impossible for him to do the pagecites required by WP:V. I used a thread at Misplaced Pages:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Are_.22page_cites.22_required.3F to show him this. I suggested that he get access to these books so he can comply with that portion of WP:V. I would also suggest that he follows the requirement that the person making the claim has the responsibility of providing sources
3. Even though it is true some people have short attention spans, he should still write replies that are on-target and concise so people are not intimidated by the size of what has been written (hatting long lists and referring to other posts may help reduce lengths of replies).
If he's willing to stop and reflect on these matters I will be happy to work with him after a two-week voluntary break on my end. I know he knows a lot about Canadian subjects and his knowledge is very useful. He does have a perception that there are certain sources being neglected in modern academia: I am open to using those sources after reviewing them and determining what they directly support.
WhisperToMe (talk) 06:35, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
Will you contact me when you return from your break? Enjoy yourself, and I hope everything works out for you. Viriditas (talk) 10:08, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
@Viriditas: I'll be happy to do that. Thank you :) WhisperToMe (talk) 14:29, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

I've commented about the use of page citations here. After reading the talk page comments, I'm convinced that Skookum1 can benefit from your guidance on how to best use sources. Part of the problem comes from him not having access to these sources. I realize that you've offered to share some sources, and I'm hoping I can help him use online sources like Google books to solve part of the problem. Viriditas (talk) 02:54, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

@Viriditas:

I'll be happy to provide research tips. I have three parts: Google Books, academic journal articles, and archival services.
Google Books and books in general:
  • 1. With Google Books you can use quotation marks to get phrases rather than separate words. For example, "Chinese in Kamloops" gets exactly that phrase.
  • 2. Check the publisher of the book you are citing. If it's self-published or it's a Misplaced Pages mirror, don't use the book. If the publisher meets the criteria for a reliable source, that's great.
  • 3. If the book you are trying to cite uses "snippet view" you can manipulate Google Books to get more of the key phrases/sections you need. Document the URL and the excerpt of the book, whether it appears on a search result page or whether it is on an actual snippet. If a phrase appears on a search result, you can "search inside the book" for a piece of the phrase and get more of the phrase. If it's from inside the book, you can search for a piece of the phrase in the Google Books search engine and get more of the needed phrase. An example of me doing this may be found here: es:Wikipedia_discusión:Consultas_de_borrado/Liceo_Mexicano_Japonés#Fragments_of_the_book. You don't need to link to every URL from the Misplaced Pages article itself, but you can keep track of the Google Books snippets on talk pages.
  • Remember you may ask for select pages or chapters of books from the Resource exchange at Misplaced Pages:RX. Also my offer to give you select pages of In the Sea of Sterile Mountains still stands.
Journal articles and newspaper articles:
  • I like to search for journal articles and newspaper articles on university websites that have search engines open to the public. For example, University of Houston search engine and University of Southern California search engine. These search engines allow you to filter your results by type. For example if you want to write about a book you can filter it by "reviews" or "book reviews". It also helps to get DOI numbers of any reviews if possible, so here is a DOI number search engine. That can make it easier for people to find the requested articles. Remember some articles don't have DOI numbers.
  • Once you assemble the list of requested journal articles and newspaper articles make a request at Misplaced Pages:RX. A volunteer may e-mail you the requested articles and/or send a download link to you.
  • http://reddit.com/r/scholar is another place where you can get journal articles or newspaper articles that you may not be able to access. You may also ask at specific subreddits of particular universities. I got excerpts of a master's degree thesis from the University of Southern California and that was crucial in rescuing the Spanish Misplaced Pages article: es:Liceo_Mexicano_Japonés. Be sure to follow the subreddit rules and submit your requests to the correct places. If a Redditor is very helpful you can give her or him "Reddit Gold" as a thank you.
Archiving
  • If your resource is publicly available on the World Wide Web, it's good to have it archived so it can be accessed in the future. You may go to http://web.archive.org and ensure that the Internet Archive has a copy of the page. If not, submit the page to the "Save Page Now" query.
  • Please also use http://webcitation.org and submit the link there too. Keep track of the archive URL and include it in the citation. Remember that archive dot today links are not permitted on the English Misplaced Pages, but you can independently add the article there without linking to it if it is a plain HTML page or an image.
I hope these tips are helpful. If there are any other questions (even when I'm on break) I'll be happy to answer them.
WhisperToMe (talk) 00:42, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
@Viriditas: In regards to sending the pages, I meant sending via e-mail the pictures I took of the pages with my cell phone. It's not necessary to snail-mail photocopies. WhisperToMe (talk) 07:30, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Oh, no need to explain. I was one of the first Wikipedians to do that back in 2006. Viriditas (talk) 07:56, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
Oh, ok. No worries! WhisperToMe (talk) 08:36, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

@Viriditas: If you wish for me to use Dropbox let me know. I'm sorting the pages (giving the images appropriate filenames). If this approach is best: I can first upload the table of contents, index, chronology, and list of sources other than newspapers. That gives the "skeleton" of the book away. Then I can send, as requested, the content pages I do have (I list the pages I have, and any one of those pages may be requested). If there are desired pages that are not in the collection I can go back and try to photograph more pages. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:16, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

I just think if you and Skookum1 are going to share files, that's the best way at this point. I'm not sure what's going on now on Skookum1's end. I tried to have a discussion with him, and I made it perfectly clear that I would not discuss more than one topic at a time, but he couldn't follow that simple rule, so I've given up at this point. My main concern with Skookum1 at this point is civility, because if he keeps going down this road he's going to get blocked. Viriditas (talk) 04:47, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
I'll tell @Moonriddengirl: that I am ready to share my files. @Viriditas:, thank you very much for your efforts. I really appreciate them! WhisperToMe (talk) 04:51, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
To Moonriddengirl: Since I want to respect laws, I want to ask Skookum exactly what pages he wants the most because I can't share too much of the book at one time. I wish to follow protocol from WP:RX. WhisperToMe (talk) 05:01, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
Hello, WhisperToMe. Finding out what pages he wants seems like a good approach. In terms of respecting laws (IANAL), I wish there were some specific numbers available, but fair use is a slippery definition - alters according to what you share, where you share, how you share and why. I am more comfortable personally with sharing reference materials privately than I am posting them. For instance, there have been occasions in the past when I needed access to a source to check for copyright problems and somebody has emailed me a copy of an entire academic article for me to look at. After comparing, for that purpose, I deleted the file. --Moonriddengirl 12:35, 15 February 2015 (UTC)
FWIW, Dropbox is private depending on how it is shared. IOW, if Whisper sends the dropbox link to Skookum through the Misplaced Pages mailer, nobody else will have access to it. Viriditas (talk) 01:37, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
@Viriditas: @Moonriddengirl: Thanks, guys! I have the dropbox link ready to send via private e-mail WhisperToMe (talk) 04:20, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
@Viriditas: @Moonriddengirl: Dropbox link sent with the table of contents, chronology (it states which historical facts are in which chapter), sources other than newspapers, and index so he knows the architecture of the book. After he obtains those materials, I've offered to send up to one chapter (or maybe two) or the equivalent (but now I'm wondering if it will be too much). The book has an introduction and ten chapters. WhisperToMe (talk) 07:43, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

Recently I published a paper (downloadable here) on reasons editors participated in Misplaced Pages's biggest vote to date (January 2012 WP:SOPA). I am now developing a supplementary paper, which analyzes why many editors did not take part in that vote. Which is where you come in :) You are a highly active Wikipedian, and you were active back during the January 2012 discussion/voting for the SOPA, yet you did not chose to participate in said vote. I'd appreciate it if you could tell me why was that so? For your convenience, I prepared a short survey at meta, which should not take more than a minute of your time. I would dearly appreciate you taking this minute; not only as a Misplaced Pages researcher but as a fellow content creator and concerned member of the community (I believe your answers may help us eventually improve our policies and thus, the project's governance). PS. If you chose to reply here (on your userpage), please WP:ECHO me. Thank you! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 15:00, 4 February 2015 (UTC)

Hey WhisperToMe, any chance you could help me out with this? Few more responses would really be very valuable to me. As the 23rd most active Wikipedian, your input really does matter. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 16:19, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
If you don't mind answering publicly, how about here? Otherwise, you can send me an email. Let me know if you'd have any questions! Thank you! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 16:39, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Vancouversplit

I just wanted to say that User talk:WhisperToMe/Vancouversplit is looking pretty good. I realize you may have a preference for formatting and style that I may not, but I think the use of deep nested subsections and small paragraphs is less than ideal. However, I'm sure this is just a draft and is likely conducive to expansion, so don't mind me. :) Viriditas (talk) 01:14, 28 February 2015 (UTC)

Apparently, this innocent comment encouraging you to keep up the good work set Skookum off, and he's now gone off the deep end, with attack after attack against me. Because he refuses to be brief and address one subject at a time as I previously requested for the purposes of readability, I've moved his attacks to his own talk page. Normally, I would request a block for this kind of behavior, and as you can see from his block log, this isn't the first time he's done this. If you can raise this problem with another admin, I would appreciate it. Apparently, asking him to take his concerns to the DRN noticeboard made him even angrier. He is certainly welcome to act like a nut on his own time, but he's not allowed to do it here. This kind of unhinged behavior is not conducive to building an encyclopedia. I get that he has personal problems, but Misplaced Pages isn't therapy. His attempt to play the victim in all of this is sickening. Anyone who has to wade through his egotistical screeds knows that the real victim is anyone who takes the time to reply to him. Enough is enough. Viriditas (talk) 00:37, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
@Viriditas: I notified somebody about this. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:17, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Moonriddengirl hasn't been active (with that account at least) since 18 February 2015. I have no problem ignoring Skookum's bad behavior, but he's clearly unwell at this point and shouldn't be editing Misplaced Pages. Any normal person who reads the comments he made in the context of my comments to you and my participation as an informal mediator will realize this. He's sick and needs professional help that can't be offered here. Viriditas (talk) 04:32, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
@Viriditas: I notified another admin, Yunshui, here. WhisperToMe (talk) 05:06, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
"Bad behaviour"?? What is wrong, in terms of policy, of applying policy i.e. NPOV, and cleaning up incredibly poor English composition in all its repetitive clunkiness? What's "not conducive" to building an encyclopedia is direct and ongoing violations of NPOV, and the creation of a blatant POV fork; as for this rank NPA "This kind of unhinged behavior ....I get that he has personal problems, but Misplaced Pages isn't therapy" that deserves redress, and apology; I've tried to raise direct quotations of policy that you BOTH are in violation of, and you go on about me being a problem .... of having "personal problems".
Good grief, the "personal problem" I have a problem with is the totally offensive POV tone of WMT's creations and, as proscribed by the NPOV and POV fork policies, being treated like shit and slandered about my work to FIX the gross violations re BC history, violations of both policy and guidelines that are now being recreated and perpetrated in a deliberate POV fork. The word gaming about "there is no POV" and "there is no POV fork" apparently stem from a lack of comprehension, or even reference to, WP:POV fork which is very clear about what a POV fork is, and this little sandbox project to sidestep consensus on existing articles is in direct violation of that policy, and of NPOV, which is just as paramount as Verifiability, which does not take precedent over it; the WP:V issue about page-cites is entirely instruction creep/SYNTH and does NOT take precedent over respecting NPOV.
I've been finding sentences with redundant phrasings, needless excess words, outright bad grammar; never mind trivial non sequiturs tossed into the "composition"without any regard to context; and even less to NPOV.
IMO you BOTH have "personal problems", chief of which is your inability to recognize your own failing about the NPOV policy; never mind respecting an editor with broad experience with the subject, and with sources, which are being shut out on spurious grounds because they do not "fit" the POV construct/agenda of WTM's ethnopolitical treatise; THAT is specifically mentioned on the WP:POV fork page and in the NPOV policy, also.
"Disengage" apparently means "let's go off and build a sandbox to replicate all the POV that Skookum1 objects to". Normally I would not comment here due to the "disengage order" but given the completely offensive NPA that Viriditas has just made, and his refusal to discuss the NPOV policy and the POV problems of the content, this comment had to be made here.
Lobbying for another ANI to harass me with is just more of the same; whether I take this to ARBCOM or to the POV discussion board I haven't decided yet; in the meantime I'm simply fixing bad English construction, commenting on gaffes in the sources, or absences of context and/or renderings of material that are blatantly POV in nature. I'm following policy. Neither of you are.Skookum1 (talk) 05:11, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Yunshui's response @Viriditas: WhisperToMe (talk) 09:39, 4 March 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for trying, WhisperToMe. I have no stomach for ANI at the moment, as there is more cluelessness found there than anywhere else. I did notice, however, that the AN/ANI archives are full of incident reports highlighting the same problems with Skookum's behavior, all pointing to WP:DIVA as the cause. So for the moment, perhaps we should stop feeding the diva and ignore him. Viriditas (talk) 09:42, 4 March 2015 (UTC)

Weekend schools

Hi there. I appreciate that the schools you added are legit and I get that they are government funded. Problem is where do we draw the line? These lists have schools that act as full-time education providers, and I think that if we start adding part-time schools the scope and relevance of the lists will be diluted. If that one goes in I can imagine other editors wanting to add weekend drama schools, dance schools etc based on the fact that some get local council funding etc... it's a slippery slope! Bleaney (talk) 18:42, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

My personal view is that they should not be included in these lists i'm afraid. They are not full-time schools that pupils of compulsory school age attend, they are voluntary (in you own words) 'education programmes'. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to include information on these programmes in the location articles? Bleaney (talk) 18:04, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Russian Embassy School in London

Hello again :-)

Thanks for creating the Russian Embassy School in London article. However I can't seem to find it on Edubase, which lists all accredited full-time schools in England. I have searched under the school name and Independent schools in Kensington and Chelsea and have drawn a blank. It would be useful in terms of categorisation, infobox etc... can you shed any light? Bleaney (talk) 17:59, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

I have had a few tries and nothing... I think it might be because the hours of the school are 8.30 to 2pm, and so it is not a full-time school and not regulated by Ofsted or the Department for Education... it's interesting to note that all the other schools listed as 'International schools' in London are regulated... Bleaney (talk) 18:10, 13 April 2015 (UTC)
Indeed, and I have to say that these kinds of establishments are not generally regarded as International schools in the trues sense on Misplaced Pages, as they are not open for private students to attend (they are more akin to military schools abroad for children in foreign bases). Would you mind if I recategorised the article? Bleaney (talk) 18:15, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Northern Mariana Islands Department of Public Safety

The article Northern Mariana Islands Department of Public Safety has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Request name change of University at Buffalo to State University of New York at Buffalo

Hello, I noticed you contributed to the suny buffalo page and were the only recent one with a talk page! This article : https://en.wikipedia.org/University_at_Buffalo , is not the official name. The official name is State University of New York at Buffalo and the name should be stated as such. The category section : https://en.wikipedia.org/Category:University_at_Buffalo,_The_State_University_of_New_York and when viewed on mobile the wiki page looks like this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/University_at_Buffalo,_the_State_University_of_New_York baring an incorrect name , University at Buffalo, The State University of New York should not be used instead State University of New York at Buffalo. State University of New York at Buffalo already redirects to the correct wiki page so I imagine changing shouldn't be much of a hassle. Some references here - http://www.buffalo.edu/toolbox/brand/editorial/ub-name.html . It would also fit in when referencing it among other universities as shown here : https://en.wikipedia.org/Category:Flagship_universities_in_the_United_States . If it was State University of New York at Buffalo it would fit in with the others, instead it is outed and seemed like it isn't apart of New York. Furthermore University at Buffalo is just a shortened nickname and University at Buffalo, The State university of New York is also incorrect. It creates confusion among visitors , thats why the official name (State University of New York at Buffalo) would be a better fit. AlaskanNativeRU (talk) 22:27, 7 May 2015 (UTC)§

I'm not sure how to create a request to move otherwise, and it seems like the community over there is hostile, putting in their own bias and often times ignoring references and sources and factual evidence. Thanks!AlaskanNativeRU (talk) 22:37, 7 May 2015 (UTC)§

Houston Photos

I noticed that you took some photos of Shadyside, which is on the WikiProject Houston image requests list, but you didn't update the list. I am moving out of Houston at the end of the month and thought I might take another whirl around the city taking pictures before I leave - if you have time, would you mind updating the list to indicate which requests you've already fulfilled, so I can more easily make an itinerary of photos to take?

If you have any recommendations that aren't on the list that you haven't gotten around to, let me know. I'm based in Spring Branch, so I'll probably want to choose points closer to downtown and on the west side. Thanks! 0x0077BE 15:45, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Show Me Love (film) - 7,5 years on

Better late than never, perhaps: back in February 2008, on the Talk page of Show Me Love (film), I mentioned that I had found 2 excellent academic sources for information about the 1998 Swedish movie. I have reverted your edit as I don't think that the addition of a "See also" section containing a link to an article that has only the most tenuous link to the main subject is terribly helpful. Help for English language

Hello,
I belong to an association named Greeters. It has been founded in NY city. Its goal is to organize visits for small group of tourists (maximum 6). These visits are free. Can you check the following message I send to the tourists in order to propose a balade. I will perhaps make a balade 5th of august with 2 tourists from... Houston, Texas !!!
Hello,

Following your request to the website of the greeters, I propose you a balade wednesday 5th of august. In the morning. If you prefer, I am also available on the afternoon or on the 4th of august.

I propose you to choose between 3 balades : * Tour of the ile de la Cité. With these monuments : Louvre, pont des Arts, Institut, place Dauphine, Notre-Dame cathedral, flower market, Conciergerie. * Tour of the ile Saint-Louis. With these monuments : Notre-Dame cathedral, main street of ile Saint-Louis, remaining of medieval city wall, hotel de Sens, some of the oldest houses of Paris, flower market, Conciergerie * Montmartre. With these monuments and places : Bateau-Lavoir, place du Tertre, Saint-Pierre church, Sacred-Hart of Jesus basilica and the large view to Paris, vineyard of Montmartre, small streets of Montmartre, the 2 mills including moulin de la Galette, the café of the movies Amélie Poulain.

I will speak to you about these monuments, their architecture and their history (but we will not have enough time to visit them).

I am French and my level in English is not very fluent, but I think that it will be OK.

I am 64 years old and retired since last month of march. I am interested by history and architecture.

This will be my third balade as greeter, and the second one in English language.

You are totally free to accept or decline my proposal as you feel it.

According to your choice, I will give you the meeting point. It will be a small and convenient metro station exit.

Dominique. --Tangopaso (talk) 20:35, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

If you fix the text here, I will correct my errors. Balade is a French word for walking tour. With an idea of leisure. There is also the verb se balader (=to go for a walk), synonym of se promener. There is also fr:Ballade (with 2 L letters). It is a special form of poems, mainly medieval poems. --Tangopaso (talk) 18:49, 22 July 2015 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Lycée Français Toronto

The article Lycée Français Toronto has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

All references are affiliated (does not establish notability), and a Google search reveals no other notability establishing sources.

@WhisperToMe: I have not actually found a Toronto Star article, nor any evidence that the school actually exists. Also, WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES is an essay, and WP:GNG should probably take precedence over the essay. Grognard Extraordinaire Chess (talk) Ping when replying 02:31, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
Saw the latest ref, but it does not appear to satisfy WP:GNG. Grognard Extraordinaire Chess (talk) Ping when replying 02:32, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

I don't know...

The only think I can mind is that the card celebrates the ROBERTO deal, ROme, BERlin and TOkio. Many boys where called Roberto in that time. This is the only thing I can remember.

Thanks a lot to remember me. See you soon

Help with "no original research" posting for "Ages of Consent in North America"

I'm hoping you can clarify on the status and procedure vis a vis the entry for "Ages of Consent" on the "no original research" page. I notice you had removed the "original research" tag from the "Pennsylvania" section on the AOC page.

Does this mean that the NOR notice is now rescinded? And is there some process for these NOR notices, e.g. in which some decision is rendered?

FWIW, my position is multifold:

  • Secondary sources specifying the "Pennsylvania age of consent" as such are irrelevant because they have a different meaning than that which applies to this page.
  • Secondary sources defining the "age of consent" are irrelevant as previously discussed, i.e. specialized definition (implied though it may be) that applies to this page.
  • Notwithstanding the issue of whether there are reliable secondary sources, the secondary source rule is trumped by IAR, in order to serve the purposes of the page.

WRT the "footnote" you included to the effect that one can be prosecuted notwithstanding the fact that the person has reached the (so-called) age of consent in Pennsylvania, that really doesn't address the fact that stating the Pennsylvania AOC is 16 is a detriment to the page.

So to "summarize" my perspective about the AOC definition as used on the AOC pages:

Many people have a "casual" interest in knowing what the AOC is for a particular jurisdiction, whether this is in regard to their own personal relationship, a friend, or just general knowledge. One can offer them all the gory details of the applicable law, but this just sends them away, hopelessly frustrated, or worse, they may read all those gory details and then misinterpret them.

Neither Misplaced Pages nor any person can solve the problem that a given law has a certain degree of complexity. Towards that end, the idea of the AOC definition for these AOC pages is to attempt to effectively meet the needs of the people who are drawn to these pages, by identifying the age at which the person's "consent" to engage in sex is generally recognized, to wit, that consent to sexual activity by another individual with said individual is recognized, and not subject to legal sanction. (Note that the definition of AOC as stated on the page is really just provided as background info, not the same as the definition that may be inferred from or implied by other content on the AOC page).

Aside from the the numerous exceptions (e.g. school employees, family members, ...), I feel that this implied definition has worked pretty well. I will additionally note that there are probably numerous instances in which vigorous enforcement of NOR (depending on how this is interpreted) would require removing much of the content, probably resulting in replacement of the existing content with just statutory language, which would have a great risk of misinterpretation (hence Misplaced Pages can better disclaim "responsibility" but in the process, becomes less useful). So while you may try to claim some high moral ground on secondary sources, I would make the case that IAR nevertheless trumps it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fabrickator (talkcontribs) 19:03, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for checking in! I'll be happy to clarify some things: @Fabrickator:

  • 1. I removed the OR notice from the page because I found a secondary source (the Inquirer article) that links together the "age of consent" issue with the "corruption of minors" issue, and the source explains the relationship between the two.
    • The newspaper article says the age of consent is 16 but that the "corruption of minors" law is considered separate from the "age of consent" issue (according to the statements of the former prosecutor) and is used by Pennsylvania prosecutors to punish people who sleep with 16 and 17 year olds. The Misplaced Pages article restates this information without making any new/original interpretations, so therefore it's not original research.
    • Saying that "the age of consent is really 18 and not 16 because of the corruption of minors law" would be Misplaced Pages:Original research because there are no sources cited which come to that conclusion and because it conflicts with what the sources say the age of consent is. What WP:SYNTHESIS says is that Misplaced Pages cannot take information from two sources and make an original conclusion "not explicitly stated by any of the sources"
  • 2. According to Misplaced Pages:No_original_research#Primary.2C_secondary_and_tertiary_sources Misplaced Pages articles are supposed to be primarily based upon secondary sources, but they also to a lesser extent may be based on primary sources. That means secondary sources more or less determine what the article content is. Misplaced Pages articles usually have to follow the secondary sources.
  • 3. From my understanding this will not affect large parts of the age of consent articles. If they directly state verbatim what the laws are and what they say, they are okay. They are not making an original conclusion not stated by any of the laws.
    • I have noticed that in some places in the age of consent article series, portions about certain countries may say "the law is unclear" - if that is not sourced to another source, anything that says the law is unclear it may count as original research (since the conclusion did not explicitly come from any source). In Ages_of_consent_in_Africa#Seychelles I cited a statement from the US State Department that discusses how the situation in the Seychelles is unclear. Because the information directly comes from another source, it's not original research.
    • I personally have no plans to touch any of those "the law is unclear" statements, but instead I would be on the lookout for any references where people explicitly say it's unclear.
  • 4. I am aware that some people just want the Cliff's Notes and don't need all of the details in one setting. That's why I installed the footnote in Ages_of_consent_in_North_America#State_laws. Even though Pennsylvania appears on the "16" list the reader will realize something is unusual with Pennsylvania because of the little "a" footnote. Upon reading it he/she will know that people can still get in trouble for having sex with 16 and 17 year olds even though the state AOC is considered to be 16.
  • 5. I understand that people will want to know "what age will the other person have to be for me not to get in trouble?" The primary purpose of Misplaced Pages, though, is to be an encyclopedia, and that means reflecting what the existing literature says about a topic. An encyclopedia is a tertiary source that gets its information from other sources (primary and secondary), and does not get info from original research. Misplaced Pages needs to meet that goal first. Now I think having the footnote allows Misplaced Pages to satisfy the role and inform people of the true nature of Pennsylvania law.

If we come to an agreement that Pennsylvania's age of consent should be listed as "16" but with a prominent footnote saying that people can still face legal sanctions for having sex with 16 and 17 year olds even though the 16 and 17 year olds are technically "consenting", then I can close out the OR noticeboard page. If the discussion isn't closed, there won't be an "official ruling" but rather what happens is that other editors respond and they may form a consensus after deliberating the issue. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:38, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

In case there is any doubt, we have not come to an agreement that Pennsylvania's age of consent should be listed as "16". Fabrickator (talk) 09:00, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Age of consent with no statutory rape law? (Honduras)

As included in the footnote on Ages of consent in North America for Honduras:

The legal age of consent is 18. There is no statutory rape law...

This seems to be self-contradictory, and in the absence of some other secondary source that can clarify this, we might choose to go to a primary source. If that's not permitted, then perhaps we should just tell the truth, that a reliable secondary source is not available, rather than to stick the reader with information that evidently can't be trusted. Fabrickator (talk) 08:58, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

  • @Fabrickator: It's the wording that more or less comes from the US State department. In the meantime I did find what seems to be the Honduran laws about these, so they will be posted. Since primary sources can't be "interpreted" it may help to see what Spanish or English-language Honduran sources have to say about the law. Getting Honduran Wikipedians to help could be an idea too. WhisperToMe (talk) 11:41, 6 August 2015 (UTC)
    • @Fabrickator: It may be possible the state department made a mistake, so I can see if it made any other "country reports" about Honduras mentioning the age of consent. If it consistently says the AoC is a certain value it may be good to cite those sources. WhisperToMe (talk) 12:28, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

Patrick Bokanowski

You helped me write several film-related aritcles such as See You in Hell, My Darling and upload images unto them in the past. I have a dynamic IP. Hope all is well. Is there any way to upload a non-free picture of Patrick Bokanowski, for example, this one, this one, this one this one this one, or this one without breaking Misplaced Pages rules? Thanks. 46.116.230.76 (talk) 10:05, 21 August 2015 (UTC)

By the way, you speak Spanish, right? If you have the time and can find sources, I would highly appreciate it if you could create articles for Agustí Villaronga's film Le Passager clandestin and for Isaac-Pierre Racine and Lydia Zimmermann who co-directed Aro Tolbukhin. En la mente del asesino with him. I would then augmente and ameliorate the articles myself. Thanks! 46.116.230.76 (talk) 16:34, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
Unfortunately they do not exist on any Wiki. They have to be created from scratch. Oh, and I meant that you could search, if you have the times, for Spanish-language sources online to create articles in English here. 46.116.230.76 (talk) 16:45, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
I will search for English-language sources and report back to you within the next couple of days. If I do not manage to come up with anything substantial, prehaps you could start searching for Spanish ones. 46.116.230.76 (talk) 17:01, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
Well, for starters, Mr. Racine has an English-language website here, Ms. Zimmermann here, and I also found a short description of the film here. 46.116.230.76 (talk) 17:11, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
Searching Google Books, I found a few things in Spanish (e.g. here, here, here, and here) but I do not speak that language... 46.116.230.76 (talk) 17:26, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
If you do manage to find enough sources to crate an article, here is the film poster. 46.116.230.76 (talk) 10:33, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
Some new information. I contacted Ms. Zimmermann today and was told that her date of birth is 12 December 1966. Am trying now to get the same information from Mr. Racine regarding his birth date. Should come in handy when we build the entries. 46.116.230.76 (talk) 11:19, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
Saw the new article. Great! Now just add the poster linked to above to the infobox and only two entries are left. 46.116.230.76 (talk) 11:33, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
Many thanks for the upload! Please message me when the two biographical articles are ready. 46.116.230.76 (talk) 16:41, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
If you do not manage to create the two biographical articles, it is fine by me. I may not be able to locate any more sources than what I have alredy gave you... 46.116.230.76 (talk) 11:09, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
I wanted to tell you that, in addition to several internet and Google Books links that mention that Zimmermann and Racine worked on the film, there is actually one last source that could be used to construct these two biographical articles. The Aro Tolbukhin: En la mente del asesino disc included in the Cofre Agustí Villaronga boxset, released in 2010 by Barcelona-based home video company Cameo Media S.L., contains a commentary by all three directors involved as well as other features such as a makng-of featurette, short filmographies of everyone involved, and even more. I own a copy of the set. However, unfortunately, only the films themselves contain Englihs subtitles. Otherwise I would have attempted to tell you what they say there. Perhaps you live in an area with an extensive international DVD library? My IP address got changed a few days ago to 89.139.166.50 (talk) 16:32, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
Like I said, only the feature films themselves have English subtitles in that boxset, not the extras. You could look it up, by searching for their titles as listed on the Cameo website or on the Spanish Amazon, on torrent websites, yet I am no expert on such things. Good luck! 89.139.166.50 (talk) 22:16, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
Just found this Spanish-language interview with Lydia Zimmermann. Can an article be built with it? My IP address recently got changed into 85.250.132.190 (talk) 12:02, 12 October 2015 (UTC)
Great! Please send me another message once it is done. Thanks! You can also find a recorded interview with her (and Villaronga) in what I believe is Catalan here. After you create the article, could you please also create a Category:Films directed by Lydia Zimmermann for inclusion of Aro Tolbukhin. En la mente del asesino? 85.250.132.190 (talk) 12:32, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

Just dropped by to mention that my IP address was changed again and to issue the reminder that you asked for. 85.250.161.165 (talk) 11:11, 14 October 2015 (UTC)

Please do not forget about the Category: Films directed by Lydia Zimmermann for inclusion of Aro Tolbukhin. En la mente del asesino. Thanks! 85.250.161.165 (talk) 16:13, 16 October 2015 (UTC)
Thanks once again for the category! I have yet to find any substantial information abour Isaac Pierre Racine online, so, if you ever do, feel free to start an entry. 85.250.161.165 (talk) 17:49, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello again! I found this article with some information about Racine. Do you believe an article can be constructed out of it? Thanks. My IP is now 109.67.195.14 (talk) 16:17, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

If you do manage to create an article, please also create a Category:Films directed by Isaac Pierre Racine for inclusion of Aro Tolbukhin. En la mente del asesino. Thanks! I am linking several photos of Lydia Zimmermann and Isaac Pierre Racine. And here are a few photos of them with some other people. Please tell me if you believe any of them to comply with Misplaced Pages's fair use polciies. 109.67.195.14 (talk) 16:35, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
So, what do you believe? Can an article be created about Racine from that link and are these photos of any use here? Thanks! 109.67.195.14 (talk) 11:10, 12 December 2015 (UTC)
Would you consider this (p. 29) to be a useful source about Racine that together with the previous link can be used to build an entry about him? Then there is also this paragraph from a book. Thanks. Meanwhile, I have also posted this. 109.67.195.14 (talk) 22:08, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Just noticed this article about a husband-and-wife filmmaking duo. If we cannot create a separate entry about Racine, would it be possible, do you believe, to convert the Lydia Zimmermann article (and her category as well) into an entry about them both? Thanks. My IP is now 79.176.208.216 (talk) 17:27, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. You can compare their IMDb profiles and see that while they do not work together on all of their projects, there is quite a bit of collaboration on many. Some of those are already mentioned on the Zimmermann article. 79.176.208.216 (talk) 17:50, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
Everything I managed to find about Racine as a person so far is at the requested articles entry linked to above and most of it does discuss them both together, as do, of course, all the sources discussing Aro Tolbukhin. En la mente del asesino (e.g. reviews available on Rotten Tomatoes and other such sources or Google Books sources mentioning the film) by virtue of them having codirected the film together, as well as the interview we used earlier to build the Zimmermann article. Tell me if you believe it is enough. 79.176.208.216 (talk) 18:06, 11 January 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately that is all I am aware of for now. Thanks again, and, I will report back should I find any more information. 79.176.208.216 (talk) 18:16, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Would it be possible for you to create a Category:Films directed by Isaac Pierre Racine for inclusion of Aro Tolbukhin. En la mente del asesino? I have seen several categories here dedicated specifically to films by directors who do not have their own entries. Thanks. 79.176.208.216 (talk) 21:00, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Did you receive my recent question? I got no reply from you so far. Thanks. 79.176.208.216 (talk) 12:25, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
Great! Thanks for the reply! Please notify me when you have some news. 79.176.208.216 (talk) 16:29, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
There are currently no other films by Racine having entries, however, categories containing only one film do exist, see, e.g., Category:Films directed by Patrick Bokanowski and Category:Films directed by Lydia Zimmermann. 79.176.208.216 (talk) 16:34, 22 February 2016 (UTC)
He is Canadian yet living in spain since 1987 I believe. Will list him as Canadian as I am not sure if he was ever naturalized in Spain. Many thanks! 79.176.208.216 (talk) 16:49, 22 February 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 25

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.
