Requested moves is the place to request and vote on article moves that are not straightforward, or that require the assistance of Misplaced Pages administrators. Normally, logged in users can do uncontroversial moves themselves using the tab found at the top of every page (see Help:Moving a page for more information). However, sometimes this does not work because the target is already occupied (usually in the form of a redirect with a page history). In other situations a move may be controversial and will require discussion to reach a consensus.

Discussion to find consensus is encouraged for page moves requested on this page. Requested moves may be implemented if there is a Misplaced Pages community consensus (generally 60% or more) supporting the moving of an article after five (5) days under discussion on the talk page of the article to be moved, or earlier at the discretion of an administrator. The time for discussion may be extended if a consensus has not emerged.

What requested moves are not for:

Before you begin, please note that requested moves are only for moving articles, and sometimes templates. It is not the place for the following:

Unobstructed, uncontroversial moves
Moves of this nature can be accomplished by any logged-in user whose registration was more than 4 days ago. Use the tab located at the top of every page. See Help:Moving a page.
Category move requests
To rename a category, list it on categories for discussion.
Image move requests
To rename an image, re-upload the image with the name you want, and then change the relevant links to reflect the new name, and then list the old image on images and media for deletion.
Merge requests
To merge two articles, make a request at proposed mergers or be bold and do it yourself.
Cut and paste move fix requests
To request page histories to be merged, list them at cut and paste move repairs.

Steps for requesting a page move

In the following, replace PageName with the name of the page to be moved; NewName with your proposed name; and reason for move with some text explaining your proposal.

Step 1:  Add the request to the list on this page
a.  To aid the administrators, add a line with the day's date on it directly under the heading of the Current proposals subsection, if it has not already been added for today.

The line should look like:

===] ]===

b.  To enter a request for a single page to be moved to a new name, add the following line at the top of the section under the date line;
{{subst:WP:RM|PageName|NewName|reason for move}}

which will include all the necessary formatting, including your signature. Don't forget the "subst:" at the beginning!

c.  Include the page's name in your edit summary. Save this page.

Step 2:  Add the move template to talk page
Enter the following text at the top of the talk page of the page you want moved:
{{move|NewName}}

If you think a page should be moved, but don't yet know what name it should be given, you can use {{moveoptions}} instead to indicate that there are several options to discuss.

Step 3:  Create a place for discussion
If one does not already exist, create a section at the bottom of the talk page of the page you want moved for discussion. This can take any form that is reasonable for administrators to follow, but using
{{subst:WP:RMtalk|PageName|NewName|reason for move}}

is suggested. The reason for move should be copied from the entry on the WP:RM page. The above template will produce something similar to:

==Requested move==
PageName → NewName – {reason for move with signature} copied from the entry on the ] page
===Survey===
Add "* Support" or "* Oppose" followed by an optional one-sentence explanation, then sign your opinion with <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>
===Discussion===
Add any additional comments

If you are proposing that multiple closely related pages should all be moved for the same reason (see #Multiple page moves), it may be advisable to create this discussion on only a single talk page and provide links from the other talk pages to this centralized discussion.

Please include "move proposal" or similar in the edit summary and don't mark it as minor. Consider checking the "Watch this page" box to follow the page in your watchlist. Save this page.

What to do on the article page

If the move you are suggesting is uncontroversial – for example, it is correcting spelling or capitalisation – then update the article's text to reflect the article's new title. For example, if the article were at Blah Blah, but should be at Blah blah, then if the opening sentence began "Blah Blah is a...", you would update it to "Blah blah is a...".

  • Kingdom of Italy (Medieval)Regnum Italicum — The parentheticl "medieval" is ugly and should probably not be capitalised, so the artilce ought to be moved anyway. Might as well move it to the "prettier" title, which is just a Latin translation of "Kingdom of Italy" but was the usage of the time.

  • Rugby Union Tri NationsTri Nations SeriesRationale: The page was originally called Tri Nations Series but was moved without discussion, presumably as an analogy with the Rugby League Tri Nations which is a similarly named competition in a different sport. I accept that this move was not done with malice but it was an error as the correct name for this competition is 'Tri Nations Series'. We have had votes for renaming as 'Tri Nations' and 'Tri Nations rugby union series' but both were inconclusive. We have not had a chance to vote on the original and official name.GordyB 13:43, 5 September 2006 (UTC) … Please share your opinion at Talk:Rugby Union Tri Nations. — GordyB 13:43, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Numeral systemHistory of numbersRationale: The page title wanders into mathematical material such as continued fractions, the stuff at number system, and applications to computing, whereas the talk page generally supports what's been developed by different cultures historically rather than in modern times (such as fictional systems in computer games, which was stripped), and indeed a lot more can be said than the Western bias of what has been included. The information on positional number systems and change of radix really needs to be on a page of its own anyway; this is a mathematical treatment and does not cover e.g. dual base (5 and 20) or many other cultural inventions. This is a strange mix of the history and an injection of other thoughts. Davilla 09:26, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

  • DDRFreakDDR FreakRationale: move to correct title (nore space). DDR Freak is currently a redirect pointing to Dance Dance Revolution. Original content of DDR Freak was changed to redirect after AfD. Then someone created new content for DDR Freak under name DDRFreak. (New content does not warrant Speedy in this case, also note the associated past AfD on DDR Freak. … Please share your opinion at Talk:DDRFreak. — SYSS Mouse 03:15, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

  • PopsicleIce lollipopRationale: As per discussion on Talk:Popsicle. The current article's name is only that of ONE brand name, in TWO countries in North America. The rest of the world do not call it as such. A more generic name should be used, and it is proposed as the original name for the product. No convincing objections to the proposal have surfaced in several weeks (see the talk page). • Used nuclear fuelSpent nuclear fuelRationale: "Spent nuclear fuel" and "spent fuel" are far more commonly used that "used nuclear fuel". While I know from experience that this is this case, Google results are better evidence. "Used nuclear fuel" gets 68,700 results, while "spent nuclear fuel" gets 1,330,000 results and "spent fuel" gets 2,050,000, which is 19 times and 30 times more results, respectively. … Please share your opinion at Talk:Used nuclear fuel. — Kjkolb 03:40, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

You are correct that our organization is called the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. We just had a name change from the "American Zoo and Aquarium Association" in April. Our new website is in development and will roll out in September. We are one and the same association.

  • William Webb Ellis Cup to → Webb Ellis Cup ... Rationale: There has been some discussion as to what the name of the artivle should be. After seeing that Web Ellis Cup is what is actually engraved on the trophy, I think the page should be there. Is already a redirect, but I want to move the talk page as well, so I think an admin will have to do it. Cvene64 04:48, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
  • Fort Bliss, TexasFort BlissRationale: Unto my experience that United States Army has nevered used "Fort, X, Y" as a way of naming a base, its has always just been "Fort X". To that end I would like the article transfered back to its original page, both to reflect on the correct name of the base and to help bring the article in line the other US Fort articles here on Misplaced Pages … Please share your opinion at Talk:Fort Bliss, Texas. — TomStar81 03:54, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Palkia and DialgaParukia and DiarugaRationale: Palkia and Dialga have never been confirmed to be the official romanizations of these two names. Only Parukia and Diaruga have ever been confirmed. Nintendo, Game Freak, Creatures, The Pokémon Company...these are the only companies who would confirm the official romanization of the names. None of them have done this. Nintendo confirmed Parukia and Diaruga and that was that. Double Dash 21:09, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Mainland As you can see in the article itself, the name "Mainland China" is a matter of dispute, so it is ambiguous. The term "People's Republic of China" is not a matter of dispute, so it is more desirable. -Justin (koavf)·T·C·M 22:25, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
Huh? Where is the dispute? The Mainland China article specifically says that it is the areas administered by the PRC government, excluding Hong Kong and Macao. The term "mainland China" is not a matter of dispute. On the other hand, changing the name of the article as suggested is very problematic because the article does not cover the demographics of Hong Kong and Macao. The PRC includes Hong Kong and Macao, but mainland China does not. --- Hong Qi Gong 22:54, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Chaitanya MahaprabhuChaitanyaRationale: The current title is POV, in my opinion, for mahāprabhu means "Supreme Lord". Even though the fact that Chaitanya is considered as such should be reflected in the article, the title should be neutral in this regard. Besides, the title Chaitanya is perfectly clear, and does not need to be disambiguated. … Please share your opinion at Talk:Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. — Benne (talk) 11:53, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
