] from the past month (June 2024).
As you can see from the archive, you closed the report on August 22 because the filer had presented insufficient evidence of socking. I have no problem with your close. However, I had independently noticed a possible connection between Menia97! and Ajhenson21. The best comparison is to Gardo Versace 16. Both edited storm articles and the ] season articles, which is a telling combination. Both are using a similar mobile device. Neither uses edit summaries (more's the pity for behavioral cues). The timing of the Menia97!'s creation (July 17, 2021) seems about right as there were no checks (that I know of) after June.

== SPI disposition ==

] '''CheckUser changes'''
I am bringing this to you at the recommendation of the involved SPI closer, User:TheresNoTime, who indicated they were "not going to be around much longer."
:] ]

</div>
An SPI was recently closed that was started at ], suggesting that User:Polynoir was the same as established sockmaster, User:Thetranslaterofhistory. An argument was made that while Polynoir was indeed a sock, it was not a sock of Thetranslaterofhistory but instead was one of a list of accounts belonging to a different master, the earliest of which was User:Mazulu1010. It was concluded that the whole set of proposed Mazulu1010 socks were ducks, while a CheckUser returned a 'Unlikely' diagnosis (I assume for the original proposal, that Poynoir/Mazulu1010 were the same as Thetranslaterofhistory).
</div>

] '''Technical news'''
As I understand it, the appropriate disposition should have been to create a new SPI master page, ], and the latest dicussion relocated to that page, while the history of SPI/Thetranslaterofhistory should have been retained as that of a distinct master.
* ] may now target accounts as well as IP's. Administrators may ] when appropriate.
* Users wishing to permanently leave may now request "vanishing" via ]. Processed requests will result in the user being renamed, their recovery email being removed, and their account being globally locked.

] '''Arbitration'''
However, when User:TheresNoTime closed it, they renamed the entire SPI/Thetranslatorofhistory and its archive of CheckUser-confirmed socks to SPI/Mazulu1010, making this CheckUser-unlikely match the new sockmaster for the older confirmed sock. I am concerned this might confuse future sock investigations of Thetranslaterofhistory, who will undoubtedly keep coming back for more. I raised this with TheresNoTime as the closer, but as I said, they reported their pending departure and recommended I raise it with you or another SPI admin
* The Arbitration Committee ] the following administrators to the ]: {{noping|Bilby}}, {{noping|Extraordinary Writ}}

----
What I think needs done is simply for SPI/Thetranslaterofhistory to be restored to its pre-move state with its archive, while leaving the newest discussion at the newly-created master account for SPI/Mazulu1010 and the current post-rename archive of SPI/Mazulu1010 (which belongs to Thetranslaterofhistory) removed. ] (]) 00:52, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

== Sock of a sock ==
:Update - the new case has now been archived at SPI/Mazulu1010, so it will now require deleting all but the most recent entry there with the remainder restored to SPI/Thetranslaterofhistory/Archive. ] (]) 18:45, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
::@]: Thanks for the heads-up, I've been meaning to take a look; I had actually started archiving the case when I noticed the same weirdness and self-reverted. If undoing the merge requires use of the delete button, we might need help from an admin clerk, though. Best, --] (]) 10:58, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
:::I am unfamiliar with how to 'split' when a move has resulted in combining two data streams that should have been separate, but it seems to me it may be possible to just go back to before things got messed up. If the Mazulu pages were moved back to Thetranslaterofhistory and its archive, they could be reverted to when the latest discussion closed. Then the newly-created Mazulu1010 redirects could be retasked for stand-alone main SPI/Mazulu1010 and Archive pages, and the latest discussion moved there and archived just as would have been done at the original close of a case of 'not a sock of this master, but a sock of that other one'. I say this on a theoretical level, as I don't know if there are any admin limitations that would block this from being a possibility. ] (]) 19:34, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this ''''''.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its ] and view its ] .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

== Global block ==

Hello, I'm afraid the tech is quite beyond me but I have found myself globally blocked by you, despite having been an editor in good standing for some 17 years. Not complaining but is there anything you can do to remove the block? I've tried appealing but I have to copy and paste an inordinately lengthy appeal reference in order to verify the appeal and my IT system does not permit of such copying and pasting. I suppose the whole point may be to prevent the technically illiterate from editing Misplaced Pages, in which case it is serving its purpose… ] (]) 22:40, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

:Hi, @]. I'm sorry to hear you're facing issues with editing.
:Two notes for background:
:* Your ''account'' been blocked. This means that whatever block you're running into is almost certainly related to the network ("IP range") you were trying to edit from, and was not targeted at you specifically.
:* I am an administrator on the English Misplaced Pages only, so I can not impose global blocks; that's something only ] can do. If the block message mentioned my regardless, it is likely that both a local and a global block were imposed.
:It is hard for me to help directly without knowing the block target (in all likelihood, the IP address or range you were trying to edit from). If you are unwilling to post this publicly (and sharing it on ] is not an option because of technical issues), you could email it to me ]. Once I know the target, I'd be more than happy to investigate. Before we go down that road: Were you attempting to edit while a ] (or similar "anonymiser") was active on your computer? If you were, you may be able to resolve the issue by turning off the service, clearing your browser's cookies, and waiting some time.
:Best, --] (]) 10:50, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
::Hello; thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to respond. In fact, my appeal appears to have been dealt with, despite my failure to verify it, and I have been told:
::<blockquote>"Looking at our logs, it appears the IP address that you are editing from belongs to a proxy service. Open or anonymizing proxies, including VPNs, iCloud Private Relay, Tor, and web hosting services, are blocked from editing Misplaced Pages. While this may affect legitimate users, they are not the intended targets. No restrictions are placed on reading Misplaced Pages through an open or anonymous proxy. Although Misplaced Pages encourages anyone in the world to contribute, open proxies are often used abusively. MediaWiki, the wiki software that powers Misplaced Pages, depends on IP addresses for administrator intervention against abuse, especially by anonymous users. Open proxies allow malicious users to rapidly change IP addresses, causing continuous disruption that cannot be stopped by administrators. Several such attacks have occurred on Wikimedia projects, causing disruption and occupying administrators who would otherwise deal with other concerns. Unfortunately, you will not be able to edit while using this open proxy."</blockquote>
::I am not conscious of using a proxy service or VPN or web-hosting service on my ipad and I have no idea how to recognise such a thing, let alone how to remove it, or what the other consequences of removal might be. I therefore seem to be stuck. I appreciate that Misplaced Pages does not impose these general rules for fun. Do you know if it provides idiot-proof advice to the technologically challenged about the practical steps which have to be taken to regain access? ] (]) 12:01, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
:::@], if you're on an iPad and haven't consciously installed an anonymiser, the issue may be with ], which is a proxy service developed by Apple and shipped with iOS.

==Quarry query==
Hey there, Blablubbs,

So, here's my query, . I was trying to see how many CSD G13 page deletions I've done this year which are the bulk of my page deletions. But this query resulted in a severe undercount so I'm not sure what I did wrong with the code here. For a long time, I've been interested in getting a type breakdown of my page deletions from CSD to PRODs and AFDs although I don't think this query can discern PRODs and AFD deletions. What do you think? <span style="font-family:Papyrus; color:#800080;">]</span> ] ] 02:35, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

:Hi @] -- The problem is the <code>log_namespace = 2</code> constraint, which limits the search to the <code>User:</code> namespace. should be more accurate (the "namespace" column takes "2" for userspace G13s, and "118" for draftspace G13s). I hope this helps? --] (]) 11:02, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
::RE: Breakdown by type: Thst should be doable by checking the deletion summaries for various substrings; I don't know SQL well enough to do it efficiently in a quarry (though I imagine it's quite doable), but I'll grab a dump of all your deletions and see what I can do. --] (]) 12:23, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

{{yo|Liz}} I ran some analyses on the data from . I classified these into belonging to different deletion processes by parsing the summaries, looking for (1) comments that match a CSD criterium (i.e. the letters G, U, A, F, R, C, X, or T, followed by one or two digits), (2) comments that match "PROD" or "proposed", (3) comments that match "AfD", "Articles for Deletion" or variants thereof (e.g. "articles_for_deletion"), and (4) comments that match a different deletion venue (RfD, TfD, MfD etc.). Here's a breakdown by process for the entire time period; I collapsed non-AfD discussion venues into a single category, and separated G8 from other CSDs since G8s are usually associated with some other deletion process:

Hello Blablubbs! IF you have some time (and only ''if'', because this one's a real piece of work), would you have a look at ]? Since the suspected master here is really persistent (I'm perhaps not experienced enough, but I'd say they're on the verge of becoming an LTA), it would be good to have a more SPI-oriented admin become familiar with their behavioral patterns. Since the CU check wasn't conclusive here and there's a longish analysis of the behavioral evidence, this would be a good opportunity to do so. But yeah, ''only'' if you have a lot of time to spare. Sockpuppet case

Hello. You've commented in this user's case in the past , could you please take a look at the evidence of new suspected sockpuppets? The overlap, editing similarities, timings, etc, are too common. I think a CheckUser is needed. Thank you. KhndzorUtogh (talk) 06:26, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

vanadalising act

people are delibertely adding afd to all new articles without properly reviewing. This is a new form of vandalism. Ustadeditor2011 (talk) 11:29, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

No, Ustadeditor2011, that is not what is happening. Someone nominated the article for deletion based on a good faith concern that it doesn't meet our criteria for inclusion. If you disagree with them, you are free to express that at the AFD discussion, but you may not simply remove the discussion template, and you may not accuse other editors of vandalism without very good reason. --Blablubbs (talk) 11:36, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

Not populating

This is why I thought I need to restart Firefox. Good to know it wasn't just me. I've never had the issue before and I routinely put things in different buckets like that. Izno (talk) 02:31, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

@Izno: I didn't spend much time debugging but yeah, I'm pretty sure something about the specific format of this page is throwing off the parsing – the odd thing is that nothing about it looks obviously wrong to me. The tab indents and hidden comment next to "Brased123" might be it? --Blablubbs (talk) 09:19, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
Yup, either the comment or the whitespace, and I'm willing to bet it was the comment. Weird failure case. Izno (talk) 18:22, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Misplaced Pages, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Global block

Hello, I'm afraid the tech is quite beyond me but I have found myself globally blocked by you, despite having been an editor in good standing for some 17 years. Not complaining but is there anything you can do to remove the block? I've tried appealing but I have to copy and paste an inordinately lengthy appeal reference in order to verify the appeal and my IT system does not permit of such copying and pasting. I suppose the whole point may be to prevent the technically illiterate from editing Misplaced Pages, in which case it is serving its purpose… 45ossington (talk) 22:40, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi, @45ossington. I'm sorry to hear you're facing issues with editing.
Two notes for background:
  • Your account is not, and has never been blocked. This means that whatever block you're running into is almost certainly related to the network ("IP range") you were trying to edit from, and was not targeted at you specifically.
  • I am an administrator on the English Misplaced Pages only, so I can not impose global blocks; that's something only stewards can do. If the block message mentioned my regardless, it is likely that both a local and a global block were imposed.
It is hard for me to help directly without knowing the block target (in all likelihood, the IP address or range you were trying to edit from). If you are unwilling to post this publicly (and sharing it on WP:UTRS is not an option because of technical issues), you could email it to me here. Once I know the target, I'd be more than happy to investigate. Before we go down that road: Were you attempting to edit while a VPN service (or similar "anonymiser") was active on your computer? If you were, you may be able to resolve the issue by turning off the service, clearing your browser's cookies, and waiting some time.
Best, --Blablubbs (talk) 10:50, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
Hello; thank you very much for taking the time and trouble to respond. In fact, my appeal appears to have been dealt with, despite my failure to verify it, and I have been told:

"Looking at our logs, it appears the IP address that you are editing from belongs to a proxy service. Unfortunately, you will not be able to edit while using this open proxy."

I am not conscious of using a proxy service or VPN or web-hosting service on my ipad and I have no idea how to recognise such a thing, let alone how to remove it, or what the other consequences of removal might be. I therefore seem to be stuck. I appreciate that Misplaced Pages does not impose these general rules for fun. Do you know if it provides idiot-proof advice to the technologically challenged about the practical steps which have to be taken to regain access? 45ossington (talk) 12:01, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
@45ossington, if you're on an iPad and haven't consciously installed an anonymiser, the issue may be with iCloud Private Relay, which is a proxy service developed by Apple and shipped with iOS.
I don't have any experience with it as an end user, but Apple's support website provides information on turning it on and off at https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/ipad/ipad49894edb/ipados . --Blablubbs (talk) 13:40, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
Thank you v much again; I'll try that. 45ossington (talk) 18:06, 24 October 2024 (UTC)

Quarry query

Hey there, Blablubbs,

So, here's my query, right here. Liz 02:35, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Liz -- The problem is the log_namespace = 2 constraint, which limits the search to the User: namespace. This query should be more accurate (the "namespace" column takes "2" for userspace G13s, and "118" for draftspace G13s). I hope this helps? --Blablubbs (talk) 11:02, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
RE: Breakdown by type: Thst should be doable by checking the deletion summaries for various substrings; I don't know SQL well enough to do it efficiently in a quarry (though I imagine it's quite doable), but I'll grab a dump of all your deletions and see what I can do. --Blablubbs (talk) 12:23, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

@Liz: I ran some analyses on the data from this query.

Process Count Percentage
CSD (Other) 317726 50.76%
CSD G8 261613 41.79%
PROD 24098 3.85%
AFD 12519 2%
Multiple processes mentioned 4221 0.67%
Other discussion (MfD/TfD/RfD etc.) 3226 0.52%
No process mentioned 2564 0.41%

If you're curious about counts for individual speedy criteria, here's the 20 that were most frequently mentioned first (where several criteria were mentioned, I only coded the first one and ignored the others).

Extended content
Criterium Count Percentage
G8 261613 44.913%
G13 181102 31.091%
C1 44002 7.554%
G6 32083 5.508%
G2 13642 2.342%
G11 7811 1.341%
R2 7498 1.287%
G7 5704 0.979%
G5 5369 0.922%
G3 4532 0.778%
U5 3827 0.657%
R3 2044 0.351%
U1 1853 0.318%
G10 1537 0.264%
A7 1491 0.256%
F5 1424 0.244%
U2 1389 0.238%
G1 957 0.164%
G14 886 0.152%
G4 741 0.127%

There are probably some misclassifications in here since it's all based on text matching heuristics, but the overall distribution should be fairly accurate, I think. I hope that's helpful? Let me know if there are any other metrics you might be interested in. --Blablubbs (talk) 11:52, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

Reminder to participate in Misplaced Pages research

Hello,

I recently invited you to take a survey about administration on Misplaced Pages. If you haven’t yet had a chance, there is still time to participate– we’d truly appreciate your feedback. The survey is anonymous and should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement.

Hi Blablubbs. I wondering if you'd mind taking a quick look at Special:Contributions#Scoperubus, a day-old account that's creating the same content that Toopus was doing before you blocked them. Is this just a coincidence or is an SPI needed? -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:21, 14 November 2024 (UTC)

Sock puppet | New Account

Dear @Blablubbs,

I acknowledge that I have made mistakes in the past, including the use of sock puppet accounts Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/Saishna96 which led to my block. I deeply regret these actions and take full responsibility for violating Misplaced Pages’s policies.

At present, I do not have any active accounts on Misplaced Pages. I wish to start afresh and contribute to the community in a constructive and policy-compliant manner. I assure you that I will not create multiple accounts or engage in any activities that go against Misplaced Pages’s guidelines.

I kindly request an opportunity to demonstrate my commitment to adhering to Misplaced Pages’s standards. Thank you for considering my appeal. 2409:40F0:3008:5F2A:BC73:6822:1E7B:C982 (talk) 17:07, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
