As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the ] was taken offline. We now have ] in the ''']'''. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at ] which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to '''online''', '''offline''', or '''busy'''. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Hey, I know this is quite old, but just thought I'd ask anyways. I didn't see a discussion or rationale for the deletion of the above article. I was just wondering what the rationale for deleting this article was without a discussion. ] has its own article in existence since 2006 and is a subset of the more generic (now deleted) article. (There was also a BN Duke Scholarship page that has been deleted). I can certainly understand how somebody would argue these articles don't meet ]. :Thanks for the effort. Unfortunately, that stub is not the version I have been looking for. ==Population update project==
Hi. The 18th edition of ''Ethnologue'' just came out, and if we divide up our language articles among us, it won't take long to update them. I would appreciate it if you could help out, even if it's just a few articles (5,000 articles is a lot for just me), but I won't be insulted if you delete this request.
A largely complete list of articles to be updated is at ]. The priority articles are in ]. These are the 10% that have population figures at least 25 years old.
Probably 90% of the time, ''Ethnologue'' has not changed their figures between the 17th and 18th editions, so all we need to do is change "e17" to "e18" in the reference (ref) field of the language info box. That will change the citation for the artcle to the current edition. Please put the data in the proper fields, or the info box will flag it as needing editorial review. The other relevant fields are "speakers" (the number of native speakers in all countries), "date" (the date of the reference or census that Ethnologue uses, not the date of Ethnologue!), and sometimes "speakers2". Our convention has been to enter e.g. "1990 census" when a census is used, as other data can be much older than the publication date. Sometimes a citation elsewhere in the article depends on the e17 entry, in which case you will need to change "name=e17" to "name=e18" in the reference tag (assuming the 18th edition still supports the cited claim).
Remember, we want the *total* number of native speakers, which is often not the first figure given by ''Ethnologue''. Sometimes the data is too incompatible to add together (e.g. a figure from the 1950s for one country, and a figure from 2006 for another), in which case it should be presented that way. That's one use for the "speakers2" field. If you're not sure, just ask, or skip that article.
Data should not be displayed with more than two, or at most three, significant figures. Sometimes it should be rounded off to just one significant figure, e.g. when some of the component data used by ''Ethnologue'' has been approximated with one figure (200,000, 3 million, etc.) and the other data has greater precision. For example, a figure of 200,000 for one country and 4,230 for another is really just 200,000 in total, as the 4,230 is within the margin of rounding off in the 200,000. If you want to retain the spurious precision of the number in ''Ethnologue'', you might want to use the {{tl|sigfig}} template. (First parameter in this template is for the data, second is for the number of figures to round it off to.)
Dates will often need to be a range of all the country data in the Ethnologue article. When entering the date range, I often ignore dates from countries that have only a few percent of the population, as often 10% or so of the population isn't even separately listed by ''Ethnologue'' and so is undated anyway.
If ''Ethnologue'' does not provide a date for the bulk of the population, just enter "no date" in the date field. But if the population figure is undated, and hasn't changed between the 17th & 18th editions of ''Ethnologue'', please leave the ref field set to "e17", and maybe add a comment to keep it so that other editors don't change it. In cases like this, the edition of ''Ethnologue'' that the data first appeared in may be our only indication of how old it is. We still cite the 14th edition in a couple dozen articles, so our readers can see that the data is getting old.
== Harry Potter == | |||
The articles in the categories linked above are over 90% of the job. There are probably also articles that do not currently cite Ethnologue, but which we might want to update with the 18th edition. I'll need to generate another category to capture those, probably after most of the ''Ethnologue'' 17 citations are taken care of.

*Thanks for your reply. I was not asking for you to take my word for it. My question was whether you would undelete the article if after publication you felt that the boxingtalk.com article satisfied the guidelines. Boxingrec.com is independent and authoritative in the area of boxing and is a well established source of news, information and commentary on the sport. You mentioned that you needed to see evidence of notability through sources. Are you talking about boxingtalk.com proving to you that they are a notable source or that they can show that they researched the article? We are trying to give Misplaced Pages what it wants. A little guidance would be appreciated. --]] 17:58, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

**To answer your question, no we do not at this point have multiple reliable sources. However, we have a lot of people associated with the sport of boxing that play the game (we actually have a couple of professional boxers who play) and while that is only anecdotal and not notable, it provides us with a lot of networking possibilities to get reliable independent publications interested in writing articles about the site. So the short answer is that we are working on it and we feel confident that we can come up with a few more in short order.--]] 19:16, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

**Please define "multiple" non trivial published works as a threshold concept to trigger undeletion. Would two be enough; three? As I mentioned in the deletion discussion, it is a real challenge for an online game to come up with the kinds of sources that Wik finds reliable. College professors are just not writing many peer-reviewed articles on games. Your help is appreciated. --]] 19:16, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

***Once again your reply is appreciated. In your reply, you did not address the issue above of how many sources we need to meet the minimum threshold for reinstating the article. Also, if it is reinstated, will we need to start from scratch or will the previous edits be retained? Hi! Im an English teacher in ] Mexico (west of Mexico City). My Advanced B classes will be contributing to Misplaced Pages as the focus of their English course for Fall 2007. I am looking for people who would like to mentor my students (who will be working in groups) as they do the following assignments: Edit and article (adding a citation), writing a stub with a citation, translating an English language article for Spanish Misplaced Pages and for the final project, writing a full article for English Wiki (they can expand on the stub mentioned previously). What I would like to do is put a list of "mentors/adopters" on my talk page as a kind of short cut for my students, who have limited time to get things done. WP:HAU, Status, and you!
As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible system) - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 23:14, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

People ganging up to disrupt an article
Hi,
I found you at Misplaced Pages:Editor assistance. If you can spare a few minutes of your time helping out at Indo-Aryan loanwords in Tamil, I would be thankful.
I am developing an article on words borrowed by Tamil from Indo-Aryan languages. I am citing a standard authoritative lexicon from which I find the words that are borrowed before including them at Indo-Aryan loanwords in Tamil. There are a few people who seem to be intent in damaging the article by adding "cite" tags, "disputed" and "dubious" tags for the article and threatening to delete it within 24 hours.
Could you please help?

American Committees on Foreign Relations
Hi, I was about to create an article on this when I saw you deleted it as an expired PROD last year. The old article may not have shown it, but it is a very notable program dating to 1938 of the extremely notable Council on Foreign Relations. It came up recently in this deletion debate: Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Manhattan Committee on Foreign Relations. Apparently some hoaxsters have created a phony site pretending to be one of the real and notable committees, and are trying to use[REDACTED] to help the scam, and someone (the real organization(?)) complained. So would you mind recreating the old article so I can see if there is anything I can use? There are plenty of refs on the real organization(s).John Z (talk) 00:37, 10 December 2008 (UTC)

- 08:12, 9 August 2007 Singularity (talk | contribs) deleted "Undergraduate scholarships at Duke University" (see Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Undergraduate scholarships at Duke)
Hey, I know this is quite old, but just thought I'd ask anyways. I didn't see a discussion or rationale for the deletion of the above article. I was just wondering what the rationale for deleting this article was without a discussion. Robertson Scholars Program has its own article in existence since 2006 and is a subset of the more generic (now deleted) article. (There was also a BN Duke Scholarship page that has been deleted). I can certainly understand how somebody would argue these articles don't meet WP:N. Then, however, the following articles should also be deleted: Robertson Scholars Program, Scholarships of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Florida Opportunity Scholars Program, Pitt Scholarship, etc. Personally, I think that prestigious country wide scholarships (such as the Rhodes Scholarship) are certainly notable, while perhaps university-specific scholarships are not. I just want consistency across the board and thought that perhaps there should be a discussion concerning this matter. Cheers, -Bluedog423 19:24, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
Request for copy of deleted article
Hi there! I have found you through Category:Misplaced Pages administrators who will provide copies of deleted articles, so I thought that maybe you would be willing to do me a favor. I would like to have access to the contents of the article Folkspraak, which was deleted from Misplaced Pages many months ago. Could you send me the source code of the article, please? I do not know the way you prefer to send it to me (any way is okay). Perhaps pasting it to WP:Sandbox and then sending me the permalink of that version would suffice. But if you prefer another way to send me the source code, feel free to do it. Thanks in advance. --Antonielly (talk) 00:47, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the effort. Unfortunately, that stub is not the version I have been looking for. There was a previous version which was a medium-sized article; it contained examples of variants of Folkspraak and an extensive discussion about the methodology choices and trade-offs to select the base vocabulary of the language. Maybe the version you have pasted in a subpage of my user space represents a 2nd creation of the article after the original version was deleted. If that is the case, is it possible to recover the text of the first deleted version, rather than the text of the second deleted version? --Antonielly (talk) 01:48, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, I have just realized that other deleted versions are also kept at the article's history. It is very good that MediaWiki keeps all the deleted versions of a page. I have found what I was looking for. Thanks a lot! --Antonielly (talk) 02:03, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

American_Society_of_Cataract_and_Refractive_Surgery
Hello, I'm just trying to add wiki links to an article on Hyaluronan - the whole article is right at the edge of my biology skills, so I don't want to tread on any toes. one of the claims in that article is that
- In 1992, Miller and Stegmann received the Innovators Award by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery for developing the use of Healon in repairing injured eyes
I've added a citation needed - and I tried adding a link to American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and when it redlinked I followed it up and saw that you had deleted a previous article. I can't see an archived version of that - so I wasn't sure whether to leave the redlink - or if it should have a redirect or something?
I've left it as a red link but I thought I'd drop you this line in case there was an obvious fix to the redlink. Cheers EdwardLane (talk) 15:55, 10 May 2011 (UTC)
Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity
Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Misplaced Pages:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. RL0919 (talk) 22:20, 9 July 2011 (UTC)
Notice of change
Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. The 18th edition of Ethnologue just came out, and if we divide up our language articles among us, it won't take long to update them. I would appreciate it if you could help out, even if it's just a few articles (5,000 articles is a lot for just me), but I won't be insulted if you delete this request.
A largely complete list of articles to be updated is at Category:Language articles citing Ethnologue 17. The priority articles are in Category:Language articles with old Ethnologue 17 speaker data. These are the 10% that have population figures at least 25 years old.
Probably 90% of the time, Ethnologue has not changed their figures between the 17th and 18th editions, so all we need to do is change "e17" to "e18" in the reference (ref) field of the language info box.
Remember, we want the *total* number of native speakers, which is often not the first figure given by Ethnologue.
Sometimes it should be rounded off to just one significant figure, e.g. when some of the component data used by Ethnologue has been approximated with one figure (200,000, 3 million, etc.) and the other data has greater precision. For example, a figure of 200,000 for one country and 4,230 for another is really just 200,000 in total, as the 4,230 is within the margin of rounding off in the 200,000. If you want to retain the spurious precision of the number in Ethnologue, you might want to use the {{sigfig}} template. (First parameter in this template is for the data, second is for the number of figures to round it off to.)
Dates will often need to be a range of all the country data in the Ethnologue article. When entering the date range, I often ignore dates from countries that have only a few percent of the population, as often 10% or so of the population isn't even separately listed by Ethnologue and so is undated anyway.
If Ethnologue does not provide a date for the bulk of the population, just enter "no date" in the date field. But if the population figure is undated, and hasn't changed between the 17th & 18th editions of Ethnologue, please leave the ref field set to "e17", and maybe add a comment to keep it so that other editors don't change it. In cases like this, the edition of Ethnologue that the data first appeared in may be our only indication of how old it is. We still cite the 14th edition in a couple dozen articles, so our readers can see that the data is getting old.
The articles in the categories linked above are over 90% of the job. There are probably also articles that do not currently cite Ethnologue, but which we might want to update with the 18th edition. I'll need to generate another category to capture those, probably after most of the Ethnologue 17 citations are taken care of.

ArbCom elections are now open!
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Speedy deletion nomination of Anecdotes of Oyasama
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Anecdotes of Oyasama requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://en.tenrikyo-resource.com/Anecdotes_of_Oyasama. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Misplaced Pages takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Misplaced Pages to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Misplaced Pages:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Misplaced Pages:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Misplaced Pages's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. Special:WantedTemplates
Hi, I have been cleaning up Special:WantedTemplates and noticed that Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:"_+_"oldafdfull"_+_" is pointing to your monobook.js pages. clearly these are false positives (basically a bug in how WP parses .js pages). it would be really great if you could add // <syntaxhighlight lang=javascript>
to the top and // </syntaxhighlight>
to the bottom of those pages. by putting these tags in comments, it won't prevent the javascript from executing, but it will remove those pages from Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:"_+_"oldafdfull"_+_". alternatively, if you are no longer using the monobook skin (many people are using vector these days) and don't need to keep the old page, you could just have the page deleted. thank you in advance for your help. Creating page Letsrun.com
@Singularity; I want to create a Misplaced Pages page for Letsrun.com and since I saw you were involved in the deletion discussion of the page back in 2007, am leaving a message to see if you have any feedback on this (following the instructions on the create page). At present (and perhaps unlike in 2007) there are now several independent, reliable sources with works which discuss Letsrun.com as a main focus, so I think it merits a Misplaced Pages article now. I've included a few examples here:
- Just in case you see this later, I wanted to update this to say I have created the page LetsRun.com based on the reasoning I mentioned in the earlier message. (Forgot to sign last time but previous message was from 21 January 2022.) Fiwec81618 (talk) 04:17, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
