Each week a '''Translation of the Week''' will be picked using this page.
This is an article from the ], ideally one which has reached feature article status (]), but at least one which we believe to be solid, accurate, and not contain copyright issues, and which either has no article or a basic ] page on the English wikipedia. The aim is, through widespread co-operative translation, to have by the end of the week a ]-] article, or at least one of high quality, on a subject which may not have otherwise have been addressed on the English Misplaced Pages.
The project aims to fill gaps in Misplaced Pages, to give users a focus and to give us all something to be proud of. Anyone can nominate an article and can vote for the nominated articles. Every Sunday, the votes are tallied, and the winner will be promoted for a week to potential contributors.
The '''Spanish Translation of the Week''' or '''SPATRA''' is a collaborative effort to translate worthy Spanish articles on subjects which may not otherwise have been addressed on the English Misplaced Pages. Anyone, no matter what their level of fluency in Spanish or English, is welcome to add their name to the ] and lend a hand.
Anyone no matter what their Spanish or English ability is welcome to lend a hand. Remember, ] in your translations. If your written English is not perfect, someone will be more than willing to fix up any mistakes that you may make. And as always, if you see a mistake in the article that is being translated, don't be afraid to correct it after checking the relevant talk pages for any relevant information. As for any Misplaced Pages article, expansion of the article with appropriate material is also welcome.
The ideal selection is one which has reached feature article status at ], but practically speaking can be any article that appears solid, accurate, and free of copyright issues. It is also preferable that there be no English article or only a basic ].

] in your translations and ] in your interactions with collaborators. If your language skills are less than perfect, someone will happily fix your mistakes; conversely, never hesitate to correct any mistakes you find. ==The SPATRA process==
==Translating an article==
===Selecting the next SPATRA===
The selection process involves three steps:
Make sure the following is at the top of the article being translated:
#'''Nomination:''' New nominations can be made at any time and should be added at the end of the ''Candidates for next week'' section. Insightful comments may assist others in casting their vote.
<nowiki>{{SpanTransWeek}} ]</nowiki>
#'''Voting:''' To vote for an article, add your <nowiki>~~~~</nowiki> under the article's support section. Any registered Wikipedian can vote on this page, regardless of their Spanish skill.
<nowiki>]</nowiki> | |||
#'''Selection:''' The SPATRA is selected by ]; thus, you may vote for as many candidates as you like, and opposition votes have no bearing. The article with the most support votes is selected as the winner. In case of a tie, the candidate that was nominated first wins.
And make sure this is at the top of its talk page if appropriate:
<nowiki>{{FeaturedElsewhere}} ]</nowiki>
<nowiki>----</nowiki>
Finally, the original article should be wikilinked back to us:
<nowiki>]</nowiki> | |||
Replacing "Título" with the actual title, of course.
===How to nominate an article===
Once the article is satisfactorily translated, proof-read, wikified and adapted to the English Misplaced Pages, then <nowiki>{{SpanTransWeek}} ]</nowiki> should be removed, and, if appropriate, the article should be nominated as a ].
<div style="border:2px solid red;padding:2px"><b>Note to contributors:</b>
To add a new nomination, please:
:(1) Copy the template below
:(2) Paste it at the bottom of the list of nominations
:(3) Sign your user name with the directions in the template and add a comment for why the article should be nominated.
:(4) Please '''preview''' your addition to make it sure all information is properly filled in and the links are working.
After nominating an article please place '''<nowiki>{{SPATRAnom}}</nowiki>''' on the article's '''talk''' page.
</div> | |||
<pre> | |||
Add a references section, citing the Spanish Misplaced Pages article as a source. An example is shown below:
====] (Date, 2006)====

:This article draws heavily on the ] in the Spanish-language Misplaced Pages, which was accessed in the version of ], ].

# ~~~~ | |||
; '''Comments:''' | |||
Note that the Spanish[REDACTED] has different standards, so we will have to improve the articles and defend them if they are to become featured here. In particular, we will almost always need a better set of citations.

==Selecting the next Translation of the Week==
===Preparing the SPATRA===
The next winner will be selected on '''Sunday, July 10''', 18h GMT.
<!--{{COTWs}}--> | |||
To change to a newly selected article, first decomission the old SPATRA:
# Remove the <nowiki>{{SpanTransWeek}}</nowiki> template at the top of the old article.
# Note the old translation in the ].
# If appropriate, the article should be nominated as a ].
Now prepare the new article (the Spanish title replaces "Título"):
===Voting=== | |||
# Announce the new selection at ] by replacing the old article with the new
# Copy and paste the entire Spanish article into the English article plus "/Translation" at the end of the article name.
# Add <nowiki>{{SpanTransWeek|]}}</nowiki> to the top of the new article
# Cite the Spanish article in the references section with <nowiki> {{SPATRAcite|:es:Título|date}}</nowiki>
# Link to the Spanish article by placing <nowiki>]</nowiki> at the end of the article
# Link that Spanish article back to the English translation by placing <nowiki>]</nowiki> at the end of the ''Spanish'' article
# Finally, if the original article was a ] in the Spanish Misplaced Pages, place <nowiki>{{Link FA|es}}</nowiki> at the end and <nowiki>{{FeaturedElsewhere|Spanish|:es:Original_Article_Name}}</nowiki> at the top of the article's discussion page.
Example using ] and ]: | |||
# ...] to ]... | |||
# ] | |||
# <nowiki>{{SpanTransWeek|]}}</nowiki>
# <nowiki>{{subst:SPATRAref|:es:Cafarnaúm|3 October 2005}}</nowiki>
# <nowiki>]</nowiki> | |||
# <nowiki>]</nowiki> ''(in the Spanish article)''
# <nowiki>{{FeaturedElsewhere|Spanish|:es:Cafarnaúm}}</nowiki> ''and'' <nowiki>{{Link FA|es}}</nowiki>
==Candidates for next week==
Please vote for as many of the following candidates as you like. Please add only support votes. Opposing votes will not affect the result, as the winner is simply the one with the most support votes (see ]).
<u>Only registered users should vote. '''Any Wikipedian can vote on this page. You ''do not'' have to speak Spanish.'''</u>
To enter your votes, simply edit the appropriate sections by just inserting a new line with <nowiki>"# ~~~~"</nowiki>. This will add your username and a time stamp in a new numbered list item.
===Tie-breakers=== | |||
In case of a tie, voting will be extended for 24 hours. If there is still a tie, the candidate that was nominated first wins.
===Nominations=== | |||
New nominations can be made at any time and should be added at the end of this page. Giving reasons as to ''why'' an article should become the ''esTotW'' may assist others in casting their vote.
A nomination will be removed and added to ] if it does not receive at least 2 votes per week.

* I was involved in the clean up of the stubby English version of this article. Recently a machine translation of the Spanish article (which *looks* to be quite comprehensive) was attempted by the Spanish article's primary author ] (a.k.a ]) who clearly wants to expand the article and would surely be a great resource. Also, writing/translating the article should be both interesting and, well, fun.--] 19:35, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

The Spanish Translation of the Week or SPATRA is a collaborative effort to translate worthy Spanish articles on subjects which may not otherwise have been addressed on the English Misplaced Pages. Anyone, no matter what their level of fluency in Spanish or English, is welcome to add their name to the list of translators and lend a hand.
The ideal selection is one which has reached feature article status at es:Misplaced Pages:Artículos destacados, but practically speaking can be any article that appears solid, accurate, and free of copyright issues. It is also preferable that there be no English article or only a basic stub.
Be bold in your translations and civil in your interactions with collaborators. If your language skills are less than perfect, someone will happily fix your mistakes; conversely, never hesitate to correct any mistakes you find. As for any Misplaced Pages article, expansion of the article with appropriate material is also welcome. More guidelines, such as the prohibition against pure machine translation, can be found at Misplaced Pages:Translation into English.
The SPATRA process
Selecting the next SPATRA
The selection process involves three steps:
- Nomination: New nominations can be made at any time and should be added at the end of the Candidates for next week section. Insightful comments may assist others in casting their vote.
- Voting: To vote for an article, add your ~~~~ under the article's support section. Any registered Wikipedian can vote on this page, regardless of their Spanish skill.
- Selection: The SPATRA is selected by approval voting; thus, you may vote for as many candidates as you like, and opposition votes have no bearing. The article with the most support votes is selected as the winner. In case of a tie, the candidate that was nominated first wins.
How to nominate an article
Note to contributors:To add a new nomination, please:
- (1) Copy the template below
- (2) Paste it at the bottom of the list of nominations
- (3) Sign your user name with the directions in the template and add a comment for why the article should be nominated.

Preparing the SPATRA
To change to a newly selected article, first decomission the old SPATRA:
- Remove the {{SpanTransWeek}} template at the top of the old article.
- Note the old translation in the archive.
- If appropriate, the article should be nominated as a featured article.
Now prepare the new article (the Spanish title replaces "Título"):
- Announce the new selection at Misplaced Pages:Spanish Translation of the Week/current by replacing the old article with the new
- Copy and paste the entire Spanish article into the English article plus "/Translation" at the end of the article name.
- Add {{SpanTransWeek|]}} to the top of the new article
- Cite the Spanish article in the references section with {{SPATRAcite|:es:Título|date}}
- Link to the Spanish article by placing ] at the end of the article
- Link that Spanish article back to the English translation by placing ] at the end of the Spanish article
- Finally, if the original article was a featured article in the Spanish Misplaced Pages, place {{Link FA|es}} at the end and {{FeaturedElsewhere|Spanish|:es:Original_Article_Name}} at the top of the article's discussion page.
Example using Capernaum and es:Cafarnaúm:
- ...es:Cafarnaúm to Capernaum...
- Capernaum/Translation
- {{SpanTransWeek|]}}
- {{subst:SPATRAref|:es:Cafarnaúm|3 October 2005}}
- ]
- ] (in the Spanish article)
- {{FeaturedElsewhere|Spanish|:es:Cafarnaúm}} and {{Link FA|es}}

- Comments:
- I was involved in the clean up of the stubby English version of this article. Recently a machine translation of the Spanish article (which *looks* to be quite comprehensive) was attempted by the Spanish article's primary author User:Saeta (a.k.a es:Usuario:Lobillo) who clearly wants to expand the article and would surely be a great resource. Also, writing/translating the article should be both interesting and, well, fun.--DO11.10 19:35, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

- Spanish Misplaced Pages artículo destacado which is quite lengthy and well-referenced, on a medieval topic that we don't seem to cover. -Fsotrain 19:01, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

- The English article is not complete at all; compared to the Spanish one.
- Compared to other articles about cities of Venezuela (Caracas, Barquisimeto, Mérida, Mérida, Maracaibo for example) it is too poor.

- The English article has a good article structure, but its almost blank, and the Spanish article is rated GOOD. Jerez is one of the most important cities in the South of Spain and probably deserved a better article than the current one.--Wafry (talk) 14:26, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

- Spanish article is rated Featured Article but the English one is not complete at all: it reads like a travel guide and hasn't any references.
