:Still not sure if I should reply here or on my user sub page. Thoughts? There are very few articles on Korean buildings. Every major building in the world either has a Samsung worker's fingerprints on it or a skeleton full of Posco steel. But in Seoul, all the buildings are usually quite small and boring. They've got a few, but not as many as they could. Anyway, there appears to be no list of tallest buildings in either Korea, Seoul, Busan, Incheon, Daegu or any where else there. I keep encountering famous buildings without wiki pages which saddens me. Like , with its new stupid name,
:actually i can't find any buildings on emporis because I don't know their English names. :o/ I always called the Kyobo Building, which apparantly is something else and this is Kyobo Gangnam Tower. Kill me... That is a landmark, across the street from the ], which I've been meaning to start an article for too. :o/ So do you think I should attempt a tallest building article for Seoul or South Korea? I'm afraid. But you seem to be the specialist on that point.
:P.S. have you seen the ] pictures? I'm stunned by the proposal. At first it seems really stupid, but with all that water and ] like canopies, it could be pretty nice, which I hate to say... because it is real estate shaped like a falcon. (shaking head)
:I hope you are well, and I welcome any more thoughts you have on the Lotte building. There is one under development in Busan, but that is a different site.] (]) 06:09, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

:::I do know how to use subheaders and how to sign my name, I just forget sometimes. Sorry. Anyway, I think it would be great to start a featured article drive, though I don't really know exactly what that means. :o) Would people really try to help? It is a stub. Making it a featured article would take a lot of work. I'm down. First I should fix some of those names. :o/ I have a picture problem though. somebody came along and put all my pictures into a gallery when I was trying to put them on the side like in all the other articles. There really isn't a great picture of the skyline even only covers one side of the city. On the other side of ] is the ] and on the other side of that is a huge array of tall buildings. So no matter how you try, there's no way to capture all the buildings in one picture like you can in an american city. As exemplified by ] (that big shiny one in the back is star tower) they are not built together, but in lines along roads. So i'm not sure how to include all those different images. I guess a gallery is better than the onslaught of boxes i had going. I noticed that the LA article shows cityscapes while most of your featured articles show individual buildings. I suppose that's better. Anyway, guide me and I will follow. If we make a nice list of buildings with links, then I can slowly work on building up those linked building pages.
:::Also, if you get the chance, read ]. hilarious. :o) ] (]) 08:03, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
::::I'd like to help with houston. I went down there for a conference a couple years ago and remember being floored by the high way system and skyline. It was totally unexpected. They even have a tram running on the streets. not the texas I imagined. then I saw the exxon building and things started clearing up. About six months ago I was in scotland and encountered an incredible amount of people from Houston up there near Aberdeen chasing after north sea oil. I'd love to help. I'll see what i can do. I'm leaving tomorrow for a while. My girlfriend and I are going to hop around the ]. I'll be back though.
::::Those skyline pictures are rather dull, don't you think? The air is pretty dirty in the first too. anyway, how do we go about getting permission for pictures like that? I don't have any appropriate pictures in my own collection. I added to the WP Korea page and architecture sub page.
::::Now on to Houston! (pronounced "how-stan")] (]) 03:09, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

These changes are really the logical moves following the move of the Las Vegas page. All of the articles that were in that name space and covered more then the city, still cover more then the city. So naming them to match the city article further confuses a confusing situation. I don't see these as a problem since they are clearly correct moves. But I do agree that some who have a very narrow focus and fail to see or accept the usage of the term may not agree. But what was clear in the discussion is that NLV and Henderson at a minimum clearly can not be considered in any way as being Las Vegas, a point I don't agree with. So the reverse logic, that anything that covers those places should not be labeled Las Vegas, seems like a logical and clearly supported position. ] (]) 06:09, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

== ] reboot ==

Hello Raime. I just wanted to thank you for selecting a submission for TFL. As you are aware, recently, at ], there's been a lot of concern that the system has become stuck, that new nominations are being discouraged by the lengthy queues in place, and that my selections for TFL haven't been diverse enough. To that end, I've rebooted the system. In short, we will no longer have a submissions and prep page, just a submissions page. We'll limit the number of submissions to ten. The community can comment on, support, oppose etc the inclusion of any of the submissions. Directors will have final say on what goes on main page when. I've deleted all selections made from mid-October to Christmas to give others the opportunity to get involved. I'm sorry that your efforts now have been, well, delayed I guess, and hope that you'll continue to support our process, as we try to improve and ultimately get more main page exposure. Feel free to ping me about any of this. Thanks again. ] (]) 07:30, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Sorry for this late reply. I was busy, but I have returned. Referring to the ], I am not sure which color would be best. I think a color that has some relation to Dubai would be good. ==Emporis.com==
Hey, just wanted to let you know that Emporis.com tends to be wrong on their dates for construction completions, which is why I changed them to more realistic dates despite Emporis. For example, it says Met 3 is set to be completed by 2009, and it hasn't even broken ground, so it obviously will not be done by 2009. Just thought I'd let you know. --] (]) 06:34, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
~Well if leaving some dates blank means leaving all the dates blank because they're all sourced to Emporis, I'd say no, because then you would not have any idea of when the buildings are to be completed. On the other hand, I don't think having things like Met 3 to be completed in 2009 when it hasn't even broken ground to be correct either. So, I'd say it'd be best to just leave the ones that are obviously wrong blank unless another source can be found. --] (]) 07:49, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

; Some Tips About References/Sources

Having references included in articles is one of the most important aspects to a good article, let alone Misplaced Pages! Without them, no one would ever know what is true and what is false and Misplaced Pages probably wouldn't be where it is today. So this month, I will talk about how to check for references, how reliable they are, and so on and so forth.

The first thing to do when reviewing an nominee is to do a quick scan of the article. One of the things to look for is if the article has references! If you don't see a list at the bottom of the article page, quick-fail it.<ref>Before quick-failing the article, verify that one of the several referencing templates is correctly placed at the bottom of the article. If the template is not placed, try to place it to see if references are displayed. If this proof returns no references, then proceed to quick-failing.</ref> For newcomers, quick-failing is failing an article when you spot a problem before actually conducting a full review. If you do find a list of references (and in most cases you will) make sure to look through each and every one. If you want to save some time, use as it will tell you if there are any problematic references in the article you are reviewing.

Next, check the reliability and type of the references/sources. In terms of the type of reference, check to see how many primary and/or secondary sources are included. Primary sources are the ones published by the subject of the article. For example, if the subject of the article has to do with the ] and the source is published by ], it is considered a primary source. Secondary sources are those ''not'' published by the subject of the article (or in close relation to it). Newspapers are examples of secondary sources and considered one of the better types to include in the article (not saying primary sources are bad). If you find that most/all of the references are primary sources, notify the nominator about this issue(s) and place the article on hold once you have completed the review. Only in the event that a secondary source can't be found as a replacement, then the primary source can remain. If there is a good mix of primary and secondary sources, that is perfect and no references need to be changed.

Now, reliability. Forums are generally not considered reliable and some blog's may not be reliable either. Newspapers, most sources published by the subject, some blogs, etc. are considered reliable. If you don't know wether the source is reliable, ask for a second opinion. For more info about how to identify wether a reference is reliable or not, visit ].

Finally, one of the more basic things to look for is that every statement in the article has at least one reference! The only case that a statement doesn't need a reference is when it is common sense that the statement is defiantly true and/or in the case where the statement can't be challenged, as per what Misplaced Pages says, "All quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable published source using an inline citation."

==Tallest Buildings in Seoul==
Sorry if I appeared to drop off the radar. It seems that any attempt to build up the ] or ] is going to need to be done alongside some extensive geographical work. I've been trying to put together ] and an article like ] for each gu, which will take forever. So if there is a FL drive for Seoul, I do hope there will be proper location articles to link the buildings to. I know I was going to help out with the Houston list, but I got pretty distracted with this. I'm a rebellious child. Please forgive me. Keep on keepin on. ] (]) 07:57, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
:Perhaps I should rephrase. The geographical aspect is necessary ''for me.'' Still there is a location part on the individual building articles too, so it is kind of important to the project. Though, you are correct, they could grow side by side without too much trouble. I guess it just seems to me that in a city without reliable street signs, knowing the name of the block you are on is of extreme importance. All in good time, I guess.
:So where do you live most of the time, you seem to be bouncing around new england and miami a lot. New Jersey is a really interesting place. Dig up the grass and you find sand. Most importantly, it is a suburban state of sorts in that Philly and NYC store a great deal of their work forces there but shun it politically. The whole state is mostly urban but most people don't recognize it as having a major city of any importance even though Newark and Trenton are of pretty decent size. Everybody I met there was bald with muscles and tattoos. Fascinating place, really. :o)
:Anyway, yes, keep me on. I still don't really know what I'm doing. There are so many fine points that confuse me like moving things back and forth from the commons, using categories correctly, and setting correct margin widths every time. ] (]) 04:06, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
::Ok, you did clear up a lot of my concerns there. I'm left with the question of why we would upload images to the English site at all. Why not put all the images on the commons? I've put up a pretty decent number of photos. It seems like it would take some time to move everything. Some other day, I guess. For margin widths I guess my biggest problem is understanding why some tables and infoboxes are crazy huge and others are not. For instance, a lot of the mall infoboxes that I've touched have pictures taking up half the page. The only way to correct it is to make the damn image a thumb. :o( I'm pretty overwhelmed when I try to look at the source for custom made infoboxes and tables. I've made several poorly-sized infoboxes and I usually just wait for other people to come by and adjust them. Likewise with categories, I haven't really been using them because other users come by soon enough to put the tags in. It seems like some people kind of specialize in that sort of thing. For now, I have no futher questions on these things, but i'm sure as soon as i try them, I'll run into some snags.
::Today I'm more pre-occupied with the rampant misinformation I'm encountering everywhere I go on wikipedia. I put so much trust into what is written here, but it often turns out to be bogus. I read ] and I found myself thinking very idealistic and silly things. The more ethnically motivated or simply slanderous edits I find, the more grounded I feel. The Singapore articles especially seem to be unregulated. No matter what I write about on Korea, it is edited and simplified very quickly and rigorously... or turned pro-japanese. Whatever I write about on St. Louis will either be deleted or untouched. Whatever I write about on Sinapore just gets a bucket of hearsay dumped on it. By following pre-set models and structures, the articles are systematically led further and further away from reality. The maps and regions follow ] not townships or government defined districts (which do exist!). There are user-made subway maps for future transit lines whose courses have not yet been decided. Etc. The singlish is getting to me too. To answer your question, "No, i do not intend to live in Singapore forever." :o) I moved here to be with my girlfriend and will be here for a year or two. Then I have no idea. I have a vague plan to live in a different ] every few years. If the city is big enough, then I can still live almost the same life style. The top of my list is Cairo, Istanbul, anywhere in japan, New York City, anywhere in China, Mexico City, Vancouver, Chicago, Buenos Aires, you know how it goes. I always wanted to be an historian or geographer and I'm sort of working myself into a East Asian studies background by force of habit. I guess I'll probably spend a lot of time in China, Korea, and Japan throughout the rest of my life.
::Singapore is nice though, lovely trees everywhere. Plenty of construction (you seem to like it) and interesting architecture. They've been dumping some serious money into the arts recently. I'm sure it is going to be pretty nice in the next ten years or so. The day to day activities of the government are sure to rankle most free thinkers though. ] (]) 00:58, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
::Oh, and a gu is like a bourough and a dong is like a neighborhood. Though this sister-city business makes it seem more important. Imagine Brooklyn and Providence being sister cities. It just doesn't seem right for part of a city to be partnered with a full city. In reality, I think Brooklyn could be a city in its own right, it does have its own downtown skyline. So yeah, gu it to bourough as dong is to neighborhood, though the implications are a little different. ] (]) 01:08, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
:::The systematic bias is probably deeper than I know. I'm pretty amused by the article for ]. I'm so glad there is a western name for it. Jeez, just split them, there are two islands. Set up a joint school for diplomatic relations there or something. You may also be interested in ].
:::That worchester thing is pretty funny actually. You're right, that is a double standard. though, i will admit that the british one does hold more mental currency with me based on general connotation as I am not from the north east. Though by population and importance, I guess you are right. :o)
:::I do indeed hope to live in Dubai one day. I'm currently making some mad money off the ], I'm sure the one in Dubai would pay pretty well too. Miami interests me but not as much as the islands to the south of it. I bet I could get pretty decent airfare from there though. I'm certainly open to the idea. though I do long for multiple seasons. The tropics kind of depress me a bit. ] (]) 09:05, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
::::In the eyes of fish eating cultures, islands are not useless. They come with a lot of fishing rights. All the same, it does seem like an absurd debate. :o)
::::I think I'll move somewhere outside of north american though, the temperate zone does extend around the world. :o) ] (]) 10:44, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

== Re:List of tallest building in the US ==

]

The article ] has been ]&#32; because of the following concern:
Sorry for the slow reply, I am being attacked by homework, essay, reading spam. I think the US tallest lists could be the next list to bring up to FL-status, since many buildings have articles and it's well-referenced. However, I think the tallest destroyed section may need expansion, since the limit is set to 400 ft. In addition, I don't think structures like the Stratosphere Tower should be included, since they cannot be ranked and there are plenty of tall towers around the US. As for this collaboration, it may actually take a while to bring the list up to FL-status, since I have to deal with midterm and surveying / AutoCAD lab spam.
:'''Proposed building that was canceled that doesn't meet ]'''

While all contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be ].
In addition, we should not forget about the main article ]. I think that article should be improved to FA-status in the Featured-topic drive. Right now, that article needs more references and cleanup. I especially don't like the term free-standing skyscrapers in the long history section (needs subdivisions). I think that term creates a lot of confusion on which city has the most skyscrapers in the world, as New York City does have skyscrapers that share a common podium, such as the ] and the ] (] and ] are connected by the ]). In addition, this makes it hard to verify how many free-standing skyscrapers there are in large-skyline cities. ;Building coordinates
:Oh, and let's form a taskforce in the Skyscraper WikiProject that adds coordinates to building articles. Google eventually uses these coordinates to add a link to the (building, lake, river, state, city, etc.) article. It will also allow the skyscraper project to reach a wider audience. In addition, I think that will probably increase the number of pageviews on the article and perhaps improve the article. The same taskforce should also check and verify if those coordinates are accurate and precise, as there are some building articles, such as the ], that have inaccurate coordiantes. ::Procedure for obtaining building coordinates
== ] of ] ==
First, go to Skyscraperpage.com diagrams and search for the building entry you want. Once there, copy the street address that's provided alongside the rendering of the building. Open Google Earth, (), and paste the address onto the search box. Google Earth will then zoom in to that address (you may have to use the city name to get the correct location). Then, mouse over that point (over the building) and look at the bar at the bottom of Google Earth, where the coordinates and elevation are. Copy those coordinates onto the Wiki article (don't move the mouse too much), using ] and include N/S or E/W. Once you have saved the page, click on the coordinate link, usually at the upper right, to double-check that these coordinates are correct using Google Maps or Windows live, etc. Cheers. <font color="indigo" face="Arial"><b>] - Tiesto - Above and Beyond</b></font> 03:41, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I wrote this article a while back and it needs a picture. I noticed your work on ] and was wondering if you could tell me how I can add a picture of a proposed building, without violating WP image policies. In the near future I hope to start an article about the tallest buildings in Raleigh, but I don't know if it's notable quite yet since the city doesn't have as many as Charlotte. Cheers. ] ] 19:10, 26 April 2008 (UTC)
{{talkback|Jawadreventon|ts=16:45, 18 February 2013 (UTC)}}
:Hi, AgnosticPreachersKid. The Soleil Center center article looks great! As for images, it is acceptable for future buildings to use promotional, copyrighted images released by the developer in order to accurately display what the building will look like (of course, when the building is close to completio, these images will need to be deleted, as free images of the same quality can easily be obtained at that point). You can see that for Charlotte's ], I went to its developer's website, found a copyrighted ], and uploaded it after altering it to a lower resolution in Paint (I know, so high-tech :) ), being sure to mark it with {{tl|Non-free promotional|image_has_rationale=yes|image_is_of_living_person=no}}. I find that using {{tl|Non-free use rationale}} is very useful. If you found a copyrighted image that you wish to upload, you can just give me the URL; I would be happy to upload it. I am assuming that, as Soleil Center's completion date is 2009, that the building cannot be accurately portrayed with a free image at this point?
] (]) 16:45, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

== WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre ==

{|{{Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Good articles/Recruitment Centre/Shell|introduction=Hello! Now, some of you might be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:

*'''Recruiters:''' The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet ]. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with, the Recruitment Centre ''will not'' open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read ] and add your name to the ]. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the ] is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".

*'''Co-Director:''' The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact ].

*'' '''Nominators, please read this:''' '' If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of ]. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ]. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

{| {{WP:WikiProject Good articles/Shell|introduction=Hello! A ] will begin in less than 4 days!<br/>

In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. == March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive ==

It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:

*This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Misplaced Pages Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
*Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
*The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
*An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.

Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.

More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the ]. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.

I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

== WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive ==

Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!

] recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.

If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.

At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.

As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

== GA Cup ==

Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!

As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:

For all of you that do not know what the ] is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.

For more info on the proposal, ]. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).

The discussion for the proposal will take place ]. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers.

Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition.

Hello Raime. An editor recently Miami to a sentence about cities that are experiencing major building booms to the ] article. Another editor that is keeping close track of the article (and removes anything that is not sourced because "this article needs sources from now on"), {{tl|Citation needed}} after the sentence. Can you add a reference to both statements in the Miami list and the skyscrapers article?

== Good article reassessment for ] ==
About the ], I have a few "issues" with your edits. First of all, why do the timelines for the tallest buildings lists only include one reference? You the Emporis references that I added. Isn't it easier to change the column title to "References" instead of removing the references that provided the content for the table? And, I remember when we were working on the Dubai list, I learned that it is better to have two references instead of one where possible. Shouldn't this apply to the timeline also? Secondly, I had used a SkyscraperPage diagram to find that nine of the ten tallest buildings in California are in Los Angeles. You it to seven. But I found a third statistic. At the ] (if you put the tallest building list in order of city), it shows that there are eight buildings in Los Angeles and two in San Francisco, and no other buildings in any other California city. There must be a mistake somewhere that needs to be fixed.

I know that this it is too early to discuss this, but I will inform you of my thoughts. After the current Featured Topic Drive is complete, do you think it would be wise to work on either the largest skylines throughout the whole world and/or cities that have a building that is one of the tallest building in the world. I was thinking that if a city is home to a ], we should have a featured list for that city's tallest buildings. I know it will be a while before we finish the current FTD, so I will just plant this idea now and see what happens when we get there.

:Well, actually I was talking about ]. I was hoping you would add a reference that validated the statement about the number of buildings under construction, not about the current world or country ranking. And I should add that the editor I referred to earlier removed your source because it is a blog. Thank you for the explanation about the number of references for the timeline. I just find it strange that there could ever be too many references. And about creating articles for all those lists, I am sure it can happen as OOODDD and Alaskan assassin have shown us. Whether or not the articles establish notabilty or are well referenced is another issue.
:I would also like to tell you that I feel really guilty that I, having been a member of the FTD for almost five months, have only helped to bring one list to featured status. And to make it worse, the list is not even a part of the FTD. I believe I will have more time to work on the lists in the coming weeks. Las Vegas article titles

Vegaswikian (talk) 06:09, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

List of tallest buildings in Dubai

Hi Raime. I've just noticed this page has a few issues now which I think means it's no longer up to featured status. Would you be able to address them or should I just nominate it at WP:FLRC? The priorities would be:

  • Fix the sorting on the rank column.
  • Fix the dead links.
  • Fix the bare URLs.

That's at a quick glance, if you're prepared to have a look into it, I could perform a much more detailed analysis. Hope you're well, The Rambling Man (talk) 09:44, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.

If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. WP:TFL reboot

Hello Raime. I just wanted to thank you for selecting a submission for TFL. As you are aware, recently, at WT:TFL, there's been a lot of concern that the system has become stuck, that new nominations are being discouraged by the lengthy queues in place, and that my selections for TFL haven't been diverse enough. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:30, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Good Articles of the Month

Each month, 5 random good articles will be choose to be featured here as the good articles of the month.

Some Tips About References/Sources

Having references included in articles is one of the most important aspects to a good article, let alone Misplaced Pages! Without them, no one would ever know what is true and what is false and Misplaced Pages probably wouldn't be where it is today. So this month, I will talk about how to check for references, how reliable they are, and so on and so forth.

The first thing to do when reviewing an nominee is to do a quick scan of the article. One of the things to look for is if the article has references! If you don't see a list at the bottom of the article page, quick-fail it. For newcomers, quick-failing is failing an article when you spot a problem before actually conducting a full review. If you do find a list of references (and in most cases you will) make sure to look through each and every one. If you want to save some time, use this tool as it will tell you if there are any problematic references in the article you are reviewing.

Next, check the reliability and type of the references/sources. In terms of the type of reference, check to see how many primary and/or secondary sources are included. Primary sources are the ones published by the subject of the article. For example, if the subject of the article has to do with the iPhone 4s and the source is published by Apple, it is considered a primary source. Secondary sources are those not published by the subject of the article (or in close relation to it).

For more info about how to identify wether a reference is reliable or not, visit this article.

Did You Know...
  • ... that 2,100 articles have been reviewed during all backlog elimination drives combined?
  • ... that out of 4,055,039 articles on Misplaced Pages, only 15,846 are good articles?
  • ... that there are currently over 400 video game good articles?
Notes
  1. As of October 2, 2012 at 19:05 (UTC).
  2. Before quick-failing the article, verify that one of the several referencing templates is correctly placed at the bottom of the article. If the template is not placed, try to place it to see if references are displayed. If this proof returns no references, then proceed to quick-failing.

Main Page appearance

Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of the article List of tallest buildings in Boston know that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on November 12, 2012. You can view the TFL blurb at Misplaced Pages:Today's featured list/November 12, 2012. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), Dabomb87 (talk · contribs) or Giants2008 (talk · contribs), or at Misplaced Pages talk:Today's featured list. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Misplaced Pages doesn't look bad. :D Thanks! Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 02:22, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Skyline of Boston's Back Bay neighborhood

There are 27 buildings in Boston that stand at least 400 feet (122 m) in height. Boston (skyline pictured), the capital of the U.S. state of Massachusetts and the largest city in New England, is home to 248 completed high-rises overall; the majority of the city's skyscrapers are clustered in the Financial District and Back Bay neighborhoods. The tallest structure in Boston is the 60-story Hancock Place, more commonly known as the John Hancock Tower, which rises 790 feet (241 m) in the Back Bay district. Hancock Place is also the tallest building in New England and the 50th-tallest building in the United States. The second-tallest building in Boston is the Prudential Tower, which rises 52 floors and 749 feet (228 m). At the time of the Prudential Tower's completion in 1964, it stood as the tallest building in North America outside of New York City. Overall, with 46 skyscrapers rising at least 330 feet (100 m) in height, Boston's skyline is ranked 11th in the United States and 38th in the world.

Good Article Nominations Request For Comment

A 'Request For Comment' for Good Article Nominations is currently being held. We are asking that you please take five to ten minutes to review all seven proposals that will affect Good Article Nominations if approved. Full details of each proposal can be found here. Please comment on each proposal (or as many as you can) here.

At this time, Proposal 1, 3, and 5 have received full (or close to) support.

If you have questions of anything general (not related to one specif proposal), please leave a message under the General discussion thread.

Please note that Proposal 2 has been withdrawn and no further comments are needed. Also, please disregard Proposal 9 as it was never an actual proposal.

Orphaned non-free media (File:WTC 5.jpg)

Thanks for uploading File:WTC 5.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:34, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

Hello!
  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with, the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive

Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days!

In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00.

At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or leave a message on the Backlog Drive talk page. And remember, there are less than 4 days before the drive starts!--EdwardsBot (talk) 03:10, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive

It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:

  • This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Misplaced Pages Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
  • Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
  • The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
  • An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.

More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.

I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

List of tallest buildings in Pittsburgh

I was cleaning up List of tallest buildings in Pittsburgh since is has suffered from a large amount of additions to the page since you got it past FLC. The editor that made these additions is dead set on keeping then even though they do not conform with the projects explanation of what should be in a tallest building list as outlined here. It is currently only he and I discussing it on the talk page, and as the editor that got the page to FL status I was wondering if you could chime in on what should be in the article?--Found5dollar (talk) 00:31, 19 May 2014 (UTC)

Adrianne Wadewitz edit-a-thons in Southern New England

As you may have already heard, the Misplaced Pages community lost an invaluable member of the community last month. Adrianne Wadewitz was a feminist scholar of 18th-Century British literature, and a prolific editor of the site. As part of a worldwide series of tributes, New England Wikimedians, in conjunction with local institutions of higher learning, have created three edit-a-thons that will be occurring in May and June. WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive

Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!

TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year.

GA Cup

Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!

As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:

For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.

For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).

The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

WikiProject Good Articles's 2014-15 GA Cup

WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews.

Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now!

If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the four judges.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

Global account

Hi Raime! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

Proposed deletion of Parkway22

The article Parkway22 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Seemingly reconsidered and never advanced again plans and my searches simply found nothing better than some mentions from the past few years briefly mentioning this, nothing for better notability especially independently or even improvement.

While all constructive contributions to Misplaced Pages are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. MfD nomination of User:Raime/Skyline rankings

User:Raime/Skyline rankings, a page which you created or substantially contributed to, has been nominated for deletion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; you may participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Misplaced Pages:Miscellany for deletion/User:Raime/Skyline rankings and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of User:Raime/Skyline rankings during the discussion but should not remove the miscellany for deletion template from the top of the page; such a removal will not end the deletion discussion. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Transbay Terminal Tower I.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Transbay Terminal Tower I.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Misplaced Pages may not meet the criteria required by Misplaced Pages:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Misplaced Pages:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Misplaced Pages policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:33, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of The Mark on Brickell

The article The Mark on Brickell has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable building. Good faith search (Google main, Google News, Google Books, etc) turned up only passing mentions related to people, and nothing about the subject building itself. Simply being a skyscraper doesn't confer notability.

Deletion discussion about 110 Bishopsgate

Hello, Raime,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether 110 Bishopsgate should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/110 Bishopsgate .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

2019 US Banknote Contest

[REDACTED] US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
