==Need help including images in Misplaced Pages articles==
Is there someone who could help me get an image into an article. I have the image (a film poster); I have the URL of where it comes from; I have the permission of the people who created it. They say there is no copyright—just use it! I have been down this road before. After days of emails and permissions granted, I still could not get through the legal thicket. That earlier image (a photo) was booted off of Wikimedia. I do not have a legal mind. If you would help me, reply on my user page and I will tell you more about it. Thanks for listening.--] (]) 04:33, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
:Which film is it? I'd be surprised if the poster is ''not'' copyrighted. As to the permission to use it, they really need to email the permission to Misplaced Pages (see ] for how they can do that. As a rule, the copyright to a film poster is with the film company - I've never heard of a case where it isn't. Are they aware that giving the image to Misplaced Pages means that anyone can use the image for any purpose, including commercial use? If they just said that it can be used on Misplaced Pages only, that is not possible. -- ''''']'''''/]\] of ]''] 05:07, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

I was reading an English article and was unsatisfied with the amount of information, so I switched it to Spanish (a language I can read) and found a lot more info there. If I wanted to write some of that into the English article for those who can't read Spanish, would it be appropriate to still use the Spanish-language citations? ] (]) 02:34, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
* The movie is ''For the Love of Movies: The Story of American Film Criticism'', a 2009 documentary film. I am developing an article about this very interesting film. The poster from the movie can be found at . The writer/director in email said, regarding the poster: "Use the poster. It's our design, no copyright issues. Use whatever from our website..." The website he is referring to is the same site as above. I am sure he does not care who reproduces it and would be willing to release all rights.
:Hi ]. The sources cited on English Misplaced Pages articles do not have to be written in English themselves. But if you wish to use them here, it is your responsibility to double-check that they actually do support the content you write. Sometimes a ref might be incorrect in one place, and then copied to somewhere else in a way that spreads the mistake even more widely. That happens even in English sources, but copying between different[REDACTED] sites seems to be more prone to it. ] (]) 02:38, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

* My question is more general. I have tried several times in the past year to get permission to use pictures and have never gotten to the end of the long dark tunnel of legal declarations, permissions, and such things. The Misplaced Pages articles about all this overwhelm me with their complexity and endless definitions and special situations. Why does it have to be so hard? == Content of a filmography ==
::What the producer told you sounds like he is giving permission for use only on Misplaced Pages, which is worthless here; the only permission of any value has to allow reuse by anyone for anything. Their poster page says, “© Copyright For The Love Of Movies 2009 All Rights Reserved.” And when you click on the poster thumb, it seems to require permission for each reuse. So I think permission is hopeless for this poster, and the way to go on this is non-free fair-use: one fair-use film poster is usually acceptable in the infobox of a film article to identify the subject of the article. Tag the poster with {{tl|non-free poster}}, and in the ] list the purpose as “to identify the subject of the article.” —] ] ] 09:03, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

:You are right; this whole area needs looking at and drastically simplifying. I once loaded some pictures I had taken myself. I clearly explained this and stated that I was happy for the pictures to be in the public domain. A while later I noticed they had been deleted by some anal individual because I had not ticked exactly the right combination of boxes, or included exactly the right combination of text templates, or something. There seem to be a group of people at Misplaced Pages whose mission is firstly to make it as difficult as possible to load pictures, and secondly to delete as many existing pictures as possible on the grounds of some minor procedural error that the deleter could just as easily fix themselves. ] (]) 14:58, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

::It is a complex and confusing process, and even things being entirely released by creator into the public domain do have a bit of red tape. We really, really don't want to frustrate people, but due to copyright-GFDL fine print we need to be incredibly careful. Yes, there are editors that dig deeply into new image submissions, but they all mean well and understand that it won't help the project in the long run to try to push away new contributors. Question for you-- was the image you submitted being used in an article or article draft in your userspace? :::It's even simpler than that - copyright violation in this digital age is simple to effect, much more so than before, but the consequences are still very serious. ::"This whole area" does "need looking at and drastically simplifying", but understand what "this whole area" is: copyright law. Copyright is a mess on Misplaced Pages because copyright is a mess everywhere. Misplaced Pages has no control over copyright law, so we cannot fix the problem. Instead it is up to voters to elect representatives who will write copyright laws that serve the public interest rather than corporate interests. Who do you think writes these ridiculous laws and spends millions of dollars to lobby politicians to enact them? In the old days, the public could ignore the problem because only corporations could afford to get seriously into publishing. Anyone who could afford to publish back then could also afford to hire attorneys to tell them how to do it. Today computers have enabled almost anyone to be a publisher, but attorneys have only gotten more expensive. So we have a situation where technically almost everyone violates copyright laws. This may be acceptable on a site like Facebook (for now, anyway), but Misplaced Pages has to be more careful because we specifically label some of our media files as being OK for re-use by anyone. --] (]) 20:38, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

===General comments on the issue of image permissions===
It sounds like I hit a nerve with my comments about images and copyrights. Let me make a few points:
* People who think they have legal permission to allow use of media are often mistaken, as user teb728 points out in this particular case. That makes the whole permissions issue even more vexing.
* It is ''very'' important not to blame Misplaced Pages editors for yanking images (a point already make above). Think of them as protecting Misplaced Pages from serious lawsuits, not as mean old deletionists. The fault lies entirely with the complicated copyright laws.
* This whole discussion is so interesting, it makes me think there should be some kind of forum or a special page for discussing the perennial issue of getting through the copyright jungle.
* In addition, I would like to see a volunteer group of Wikipedians who love legal stuff, and whose ''only'' job is to help other editors write the correct letters needed to get permissions. I bet there would be a lot more nice images in Misplaced Pages if so many editors had not just given up like I did.
* Misplaced Pages ''does'' in fact have all the information one needs to learn how to handle copyrights. It is just that it is so spread around, so complicated, and so voluminous, that you cannot always find what you need. For example, phantomsteve pointed me to the very useful page ]. I had never seen this page before, even though I have spent days wading through similar pages.

:Ideally, we would like all the pages that are on Wikimedia Commons and about copyright to be listed under ]. The analogous heading in the Editor's index to Misplaced Pages is ]. We have a page: ] which functions like you suggest in your fourth point. There is lots of help available, but no easy way to magically make every user aware of the bits they need, when they need them. That will probably have to wait until computers can pass the ]. Until then, there is little doubt that we fail to get all the contributions we could get, since we can't expect every user to become something of an amateur legal expert before they can upload their first photo. There are too many special cases for the upload form to handle nicely. Sites that achieve truly massive participation (such as ]) just let users do pretty much whatever they want, until copyright holders complain about specific images, and as a result they have millions of copyright violations at all times. --] (]) 04:00, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

== Inter-language Links in Coding for the German and French Misplaced Pages Severs. ==
Hello, | |||
I know how to write an inter-language link to produce a broken link in an English article to a page that does not exist on the English server, but does exist in a foreign language Misplaced Pages server:
I noticed that the list of notable alumni was underrepresented on the university that I go to's page (Thunderbird School of Global Management). When I added factual references that are verifiable without having to go into the school's contact list (which is available to every student and would not be considered private information), all of them were deleted by the editor. I was wondering if this was so because I did not provide references in the correct format or what? If there is a certain page that we have to put the link to the page where we got the information, I would be happy to do it, but I don't want to go through the process again only to have the work deleted due to a failure in following any specific procedures. I am not extremely tech savvy, but all of the names and grad dates followed the format of names before them and the hyperlinks to the companies pages were correct most had the companies' CEO name listed directly on them.
<br> | |||
<b>French:</b><nowiki>{{ill|Conann|lt=Conann|fr|Conann (film)}}</nowiki>, i.e. {{ill|Conann|lt=Conann|fr|Conann (film)}}

<br> | |||
However, I would like to know the reciprocal German and French coding to do the same thing, i.e. link to a Misplaced Pages article that does not exist on that respective language Misplaced Pages server, i.e. the French or German server, but does exist in the English server:
<br> | |||
<b>French:</b> ?<br> | |||
<b>German:</b> ? | |||

== Graphic sizes change quite a bit if viewing in Windows (it is a smaller size) vs. a Mac (where it is much larger) ==
Best regards, | |||
Hi, | |||
I just discovered this problem a few days ago. It is on the Jerome Myers page which I put together as best I could a few months ago. Actually it turned out to be much more than I had hoped for. My only problem at the moment - I'm still close to a novice - is trying to have the graphic for three montage pictures on the page appears as large on Windows computers as it does on the Mac. Both systems I am assuming are using the same code for display, but the resulting graphics sizes are quite different. Since they are collages of a group of pictures they really need the extra size that the Mac displays. Is there anything I can do to fix the problem?

Foreign language citation in English articles?
I was reading an English article and was unsatisfied with the amount of information, so I switched it to Spanish (a language I can read) and found a lot more info there. If I wanted to write some of that into the English article for those who can't read Spanish, would it be appropriate to still use the Spanish-language citations? Qqars (talk) 02:34, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Qqars. DMacks (talk) 02:38, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- What DMacks says. Additionally, remember that a lack of information in an English-language article doesn't necessarily reflect a lack of English-language sources; it may instead reflect a lack of energy for looking for those English-language sources that do exist. -- Hoary (talk) 02:42, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Qqars: I would encourage the use of the trans-title parameter when citing a non-English source. Fabrickator (talk) 06:53, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
Content of a filmography
I'm looking at the page of a director and their filmography a number of items described as "documentary installation" which I assume are a form of video installation. Do these belong on a filmography? The filmography also contains standard films. Also, this filmography contains a number of short films for which I can find few, if any sources. Do items on a filmography have to be notable? Truthnope (talk) 04:12, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Can you give us a link to the page ? Anatole-berthe (talk) 09:00, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

- I don't know if there are an official policy about cite films that aren't notable in the filmography of someone who is notable. Anatole-berthe (talk) 10:17, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

IMO, filmography entries don't have to be notable. I've added shorts lacking articles just for completeness. I'm not so sure about documentary installations, whatever those are. Clarityfiend (talk) 04:24, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

Citing CVs?
For biographies of academics, is their CV considered sufficient to cite for things like editor positions or honors? Mcavoybickford (talk) 12:51, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Per WP:PROPORTION, just because something is on their CV, it shouldn't necessarily be in the WP-article. See also WP:ABOUTSELF. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:07, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- This isn't my claim. My question is whether a CV can function as a citation for the kind of information that belongs in an article. Mcavoybickford (talk) 13:21, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Mcavoybickford. Non-independent sources may be cited for certain kinds of information - see WP:SPS. They do not contribute to establishing notability, and the existence of a source is only one of the considerations which goes into decideing whether a matter should be mentioned in an article or not. ColinFine (talk) 15:23, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- A cite to the website or other publication of the awarding body might be better. That provides a way for readers ro learn about the context of the award, which can be important because sometimes different awards have similar names for various reasons and a CV entry might not use a precise enough wording to prevent confusion. DMacks (talk) 17:22, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

Vandal templates on shared IPs
Hello, I have tagged 92.43.71.70 with {{uw-vandalism4}}
after a recent unexplained blanking. I noticed the talk page is flush with historical warnings, but it seems like users would start back from 1 each time. Am I using the template incorrectly (i.e. since 5 years have passed, just start back at 1)? I was under the impression we use the next template in the sequence from whatever is on the page already (assuming no intermediary intervention/discussion). Perhaps proxy accounts have special status? Tule-hog (talk) 18:40, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Tule-hog. There's not much point in putting warnings on IP talk pages anyway, unless there is evidence that the same person is using that IP for a period. But I certainly don't think there's any point in putting a high-level warning, even if the previous warning was only a couple of weeks ago, because it's unlikely that the same person will see it. (Do IPs even get notified of messages on their talk pages? I don't know). ColinFine (talk) 19:31, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks for reply. In future on IP talk pages lacking evidence of same person throughout, I will only increase vandal template warning if within the same month and I won't go higher than 3. (Template has been useful for me in past as quick check if other users have undone edits that didn't get marked 'Reverted' upon fix.) I took this case to WP:AIV as all edits appear consistently WP:NOTHERE. Tule-hog (talk) 20:53, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
Name correction
Greetings everyone. How do I correct the name of a person on Misplaced Pages? I am able to edit the body but have not figured out how to change the main page name. Thank you Aaronlouis1 (talk) 19:33, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Aaronlouis1. The direct answer to your question is by moving the article. But you should on no account be editing an article about yourself: the most you should do is make a suggestion for change. Please see WP:AUTOPROB. ColinFine (talk) 19:44, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- You may request a page move at Requested moves. Note that Misplaced Pages does not necessarily use legal or official names as article titles, but the most commonly used name, see WP:COMMONNAME.

- On the phenomenon of the frequent occurrence of specific kinds of error, Srbernadette: On 12 October, Tenryuu suggested to you that "you should consider writing down what other editors have been saying so that you have a 'common mistakes made' note that you can reference to the side of whatever device you're using." phone keyboard constantly recentering the screen
I am trying to edit pages on my Samsung S22 but opening the keyboard will forcefully recenter the screen every couple seconds, making it impossible to see what I'm typing. Sometimes it closes the keyboard entirely.

- @Scuttlebug Jam, Using Chrome on Android and been through that, but now i am the boss (feeling so). Basically i avoid that by going top again. Ok, simply whenever i enter something, that text hide itself and next line appear at top most screen, at that moment i just scroll to top of the screen (top of the section) and then again scroll to that particular line, and guess what - no issue. try once.––kemel49 17:01, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
Category history
If you add a category to your watchlist, it notifies you when pages are added to or removed from that category. The category history (View History tab) does not show this information, however, as it only includes changes to the category page itself. How would I see the history of additions/removals for any category (regardless of whether it is on my watchlist)? Is it available? If a category suddenly got bigger or smaller, it would be useful to see which pages had been added or removed. --Jameboy (talk) 17:30, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

Image
While visiting the page This Must Be the Place (film), I noticed this image: . The source says "Facebook" but the link is not accessible: . The image caption states: "Teaser poster of This Must Be the Place"; but a reverse Google Image brings up Pinterest Paper Cuts of similar sayings: . I'm not sure how to put up an image for deletion; but I think this is not what it purports to be. Maineartists (talk) 23:24, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- Is there another, more stable source (there are usually those that hold images of film posters)? Generally, this would go to Files for discussion or Deletion requests on Commons. But preferably look for one that is fair use. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 23:38, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
- OK. Thanks. Taking it to Deletion requests on Commons. This is not a poster for the film ("early" or otherwise). Obviously this was a hoax of some sorts. Maineartists (talk) 00:00, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
This was much harder than I expected. WP does not make it easy to simply place an image up for requested deletion! Yeesh! I placed the required template on the image page here: , but from there on it's just a big mess. As instructed: and then listed: ; but it does not seem to be correct. I have successfully placed several articles up for AfD but this one threw me. What did I do wrong? TIA. Maineartists (talk) 00:36, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Maineartists: The file is uploaded at the English Misplaced Pages (because it's non-free) and not Commons so a deletion discussion should be here and not at Commons. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:51, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

- @Maineartists: it's confusing if you are not a copyright expert (neither am I). You are more likely to get specialist advice at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. TSventon (talk) 01:23, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. This one had nothing to do with copyright. The image was not what it purported it to be: . The uploader has a history of uploading questionable images to WP with numerous deletions and violations in their history; without any response on their Talk Page to notifications. The image in question has been removed from the article and successfully placed for FfD. Thanks again. Maineartists (talk) 01:31, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Default alt text for image not appearing in article
As you can see I added alt text to the structured data of https://commons.wikimedia.org/File:Greenhouse_gas_emission_and_absorption_by_Turkey.svg
But when I use https://www.w3.org/WAI/test-evaluate/easy-checks/image-alt/ to check
I cannot see it.
This is the first time I tried to use default alt text so perhaps I have missed something? Chidgk1 (talk) 06:40, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think you can add alt text to the image itself (i.e., on commons). Alt text is used in an article when you add the image. Otherwise all the different Wikipedias would be stuck with the same wording and language for the alt text. Meters (talk) 07:27, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- See MOS:ALT Meters (talk) 07:29, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Meters Thanks for those links but I am still confused. I already have added English alt text to the image itself (i.e., on commons) - that is not a problem and as it is labelled as "English" I presume other language Wikipedias will not use it but could also add text in their own languages. You can see it on the image link above by clicking "structured data" and scrolling to the bottom of the structured data. My problem is that the text is not appearing when I use the image on Misplaced Pages. Chidgk1 (talk) 14:23, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Chidgk1: The image used in Greenhouse_gas_emissions_by_Turkey#Monitoring,_reporting_and_verification is kept on this English wiki at Greenhouse_gas_emissions_by_Turkey#/media/File:Greenhouse_gas_emission_and_absorption_by_Turkey.svg, not on Commons.
- Regardless of where it is kept, the image in the article will only have alt text if an
alt=
has been included in itsfile
statement. For the article concerned, there is noalt=
parameter: ] can take out. There is some correlation with the ], such as a dip during the ].]]
- You need to add an
alt=
parameter. You can refer to MOS:IMAGESYNTAX for an example. - The above will apply regardless of where the image is kept.
- Note that the alt text should describe what the image is, not the graph's contents. So, for example, "A graph showing the levels of greenhouse gas emissions and absorptions in Turkey from 1990 to 2022.". If the data shown by the graphs in the article is important to the article's readers, then separate tables of the data ought to be included the article, as stipulated by MOS:TEXTASIMAGES. i want to post my content in draft
I am planning to edit my Misplaced Pages content based on the guidelines, but I am unsure how to move it to the draft space. Julynoeh (talk) 07:05, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- It can simply be moved to the draft space by any autoconfirmed user, which you are. See WP:MOVE, but if you mean your content in User:Julynoeh/sandbox, there's little point moving it to Draft. That draft has already been rejected by User:Rusalkii, not just declined, and a rejected draft usually should not be resubmitted. See WP:AFCREVIEW Meters (talk) 07:21, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Julynoeh As you must know, since you Wikilinked it, there is an existing article at Over-the-air update. If you have any content from your draft that is reliably sourced and relevant, you could add it to that article. Use your own words to paraphrase the sources you cite, not chatbots. Inter-language Links in Coding for the German and French Misplaced Pages Severs.
I know how to write an inter-language link to produce a broken link in an English article to a page that does not exist on the English server, but does exist in a foreign language Misplaced Pages server:
French:{{ill|Conann|lt=Conann|fr|Conann (film)}}, i.e. Conann
German:{{ill|Conann|lt=Meeples' Choice Award|de|Meeples' Choice Award}}, i.e. Meeples' Choice Award
However, I would like to know the reciprocal German and French coding to do the same thing, i.e. link to a Misplaced Pages article that does not exist on that respective language Misplaced Pages server, i.e. the French or German server, but does exist in the English server:
French: ?
German: ?
Does anyone know if such coding exists and whether there are help pages on the French and German server for this coding? SMargan (talk) 08:55, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @SMargan: you can check the Wikidata item d:Q13606208. fr:Modèle:Lien exists, but no de equivalent. You could ask at de:Misplaced Pages:Fragen zur Misplaced Pages whether they have anything similar. TSventon (talk) 09:17, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

- @TSventon: TSventon (talk) Thanks for the clarification! You have been a great help. I found this coding on the German server {{#interlanguagelink:en|Friedrich Schiller}}, however, it just seemed to produce no text at all. Now that you have told me that there is no comparative German coding, I will stop looking. SMargan (talk) 11:41, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @TSventon: TSventon (talk) Sorry to bother you again, but is there a Inter-language Link coding for the Spanish language server as well? SMargan (talk) 11:41, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

- If you add {{#interlanguagelink:en|Friedrich Schiller}} it is the same as ] and changes the en link under In anderen Sprachen to en:Friedrich Schiller. If you were allowed to link the article you would add a colon ]. TSventon (talk) 12:00, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Request for Guidance on Article Review
Hello Team,
I have been submitting the article for review for the past three days, but it is still showing as a draft, with no violations indicated on the talk page. Following Misplaced Pages guidelines, I disclosed that this is a paid contribution and added the following statement to my user page:
"This user, in accordance with the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use, discloses that they have been paid by ZAPTA Technologies on behalf of Nasir Ali for their contributions to Misplaced Pages."
I have published this article without any charges. Could you please advise on the next steps?
Best regards,

- @Taching1989 I have added the template which will allow you to submit the draft for review. Before you do, find a better source for citation #1. You use Crunchbase, which is deprecated (see the link). Are you sure your draft shows how the company meets our notability criteria for companies? Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:48, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Gonzagalaier (talk) 11:58, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Translation: Editing an image I created for the Portuguese Misplaced Pages on the English Misplaced Pages
I created and edited on the pt:Terno pitagórico (Pythagorean Triad) page of the Portuguese Language Misplaced Pages a geometric image of my own for the understanding of my edition "Deduction of the algebraic equations of the Pythagorean trio from geometry". I need to upload this image for editing on the Pythagorean Triple page of the English Misplaced Pages, and I have tried in several ways and have not been able to, for this reason I have not been able to edit it. When I uploaded the image in the Portuguese edition I put it as a free image for use. I'm waiting for guidance so I can upload the image and get my edit on the English Misplaced Pages. - @Gonzagalaier Please use English when posing a question here. The file you wish to use appears to be File:Deduction pythagorean triple equations by geometry.png, which is on Commons and can therefore be incorporated into articles on en:Misplaced Pages as explained at Help:Pictures. However, I suspect that its use will be controversial, so you should probably discuss this on the article's Talk Page at Talk:Pythagorean triple. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:16, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
How unredict

- @Sunuraju Your draft was examined by the experienced reviewer User:CNMall41, who noted that it used unreliable sources. It has been redirected to a related article. CNMall41 may wish to comment further. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:37, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

- The edit summary at Aye Ishq-e-Junoon was
NEWSORGINDIA and other unreliable sources. Redirecting as an alternative to deletion but will take to AfD should there be an objection
. Basically, the opinion was that this was not a notable topic. You can either revert the redirection and add sources (but make sure they are reliable), or do nothing. - Be aware if the sourcing still doesn't meet GNG it'll likely go through AfD. Lee Vilenski 13:02, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

- To be clear, you DO have a conflict of interest, likely UPE and in the least are MEAT. Don't expect to be rewarded for such. --CNMall41 (talk) 18:18, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Deleting my contributions
How do I go about deleting all my contributions in wikipedia? Clp69 (talk) 18:02, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Clp69 You can revert the contributions you have made but they will not be deleted from the edit history of any article and may be restored by other editors. When you add any content to Misplaced Pages, you irrevocably license it CC BY SA 4.0, as it says when you publish/save any edit. Mike Turnbull (talk) 18:14, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Your contributions cannot be deleted, but if referring to vanishing, see this for how to properly do that. We’re sorry if there are any complications you’ve had here. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 18:15, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Clp69 Furthermore, every time you edited Misplaced Pages you were clearly told that you
agree to irrevocably release your text under the CC BY-SA 4.0 License and GFDL

- If you can explain why a particular contribution is not correct or inappropriate, please do so on the article's talk page, citing any relevant sources, and the material will be deleted. However, if the contribution is useful and encyclopedic, it will be retained in the article, because our contributions are not "ours", they are part of the free content on Misplaced Pages. -- Ssilvers (talk) 15:21, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
Creating an article
Dear Misplaced Pages: I'm the librarian for Waterford High School (CT). The Athletic Director put together a history of the athletics program from when the school opened in 1956 to the present day. I foolishly (bravely?) suggested I would make a Misplaced Pages page out of the information and link it to the school's page. And now, of course, I have no idea what I am doing. Is there a primer that could walk me through the process? Should I find a copy of Misplaced Pages for Dummies? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Matt Cadorette, Librarian, Waterford High School Waterford, CT Mcadorette (talk) 18:22, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Mcadorette, and welcome to the Teahouse.
- In addition to the good advice given by 2601, My earnest advice to new editors is to not even think about trying to create an article until you have spent several weeks - at least - learning about how Misplaced Pages works by making improvements to existing articles. Once you have understood core policies such as verifiability, neutral point of view, reliable, independent sources, and notability, and experienced how we handle disagreements with other editors (the Bold, Revert, Discuss cycle), then you might be ready to read your first article carefully, and try creating a draft. Thank you.A Wizard is available to walk you through these steps. See the Article Wizard.
- Before creating an article, please search Misplaced Pages first to make sure that an article does not already exist on the subject. Please also review a few of our relevant policies and guidelines with which all articles should comply. As Misplaced Pages is an encyclopedia, articles must not contain original research, must be written from a neutral point of view, should cite reliable sources which verify their content and must not contain unsourced, negative content about living people.
- Articles must also demonstrate the notability of the subject. Please see our subject specific guidelines for people, bands and musicians, companies and organizations and web content and note that if you are closely associated with the subject, our conflict of interest guideline strongly recommends against you creating the article.
- If you still think an article is appropriate, see Misplaced Pages:Your first article. You might also look at Misplaced Pages:How to write a great article for guidance, and please consider taking a tour through the Misplaced Pages:Tutorial so that you know how to properly format the article before creation. An Article Wizard is also available to walk you through creating an article. 2601AC47 (talk·contribs·my rights) Isn't a IP anon 18:25, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Category:Mass murderers
I was going to post at Category talk:Mass murderers, but there was a note recommending I post here instead. The Category:Mass murderers doesn't seem to have a clear inclusion criteria. Is it all individuals who have killed 3 or more people without a cooling off period? Do they need to have been convicted in court for murder? Is it mainly for mass shooting/mass stabbing, or do bombings count? Do they need to have committed the act themselves, or can they be included if they ordered or masterminded the killings?
