== the word "cognisant" in article on Māori people ==
== The February 2011 Wikification Backlog Elimination Drive has begun! ==

On 19 May 2012 you added the following sentence to ]:{{quote|Many stories from Māori mythology are cognisant with stories across the Pacific Ocean.}}I believe you meant to use some other word than ''cognisant'' (which means "conscious", "aware", etc; and is nearly always followed by the preposition ''of''&nbsp;– never, as far as I know, by ''with''); but it's not obvious to me what word you should have used instead, so I'll leave it to you to make the change.
{| style="background-color: #98FB98; border: 4px solid #00FF00; width:100%" cellpadding="5"
|
'''Get going!'''

You need not respond to me about this unless you are certain that you ''did'' use the correct word, in which case I'd like to know what definition of ''cognisant'' you used and where you got it, because I can't find any that fits in that sentence. If you ''do'' respond, please do so here, so that the discussion stays in one place, and put <nowiki>{{Talkback|Liveste|the word "cognisant" in article on Māori people}}</nowiki> on ].
The ] has begun. Please get started, as the drive aims to wikify over 2,000 articles this month. We're going to need all the firepower we can get, so '''please remind your friends to join up as well'''. In case you didn't know, wikification is fairly simple: just add wiki markup, links, and similar formatting. Thanks for joining; we're looking forward to an exciting time this month!

Since this issue isn't really related to the content of the ] article but to your use of a word that I think is a mistake, this seems like the most appropriate place for it. Even if your use of ''cognisant'' is legitimate, you might want to choose a synonym that is less confusing to readers like me who are only familiar with its "aware " meaning.
Regards,<br />

Thanks.

The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like ], which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --] (]) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

==WikiProject Wikify: Current Backlog Reduction Plan==

Hey, I noticed you marked yourself as a member of '''WikiProject Wikify''' and you are currently listed as active. I was wondering if you would be able to assist with our current backlog reduction plan. While traditional drives are more structured month-long sprints by ] members, there is currently lacking activity within the project and in order to significantly reduce the incredible backlog, members are encouraged to review all articles marked with the ] - {{tl|underlinked}} - a list of which can be found ] - to analyze the worthiness of the template message on the given article. Articles that have '''nothing to link''' or are have had wikilinks '''sufficiently added''' should have the template removed to clear the backlog and make it easier for editors to find articles in genuine need of wikification. This can be done by any editor; however, all editors should consider ] if they haven't done so already. Thank you!

], Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Misplaced Pages.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. Please sign up at ] and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

1895: Visit of Dr. Toles, an American, to Madame Osterberg's P.T. College (then at Hampstead). Students were taught Basketb Ball - indores - no printed rules - no lines, circles or boundaries. The goals were two waste paper baskets hung up on walls at each end of the hall.

Liveste, you opened the above review on October 24, put it on hold that day, and haven't edited on Misplaced Pages since.
1897: Game played out of doors on grass. An American lady paid a visit to the College (moved to Dartford), and taught the game as then played by women in America. The students at Dartford introduced rings instead of baskets, the larger ball and the division of the ground into three courts.

The issues you raised have been addressed, and you were pinged on October 26, and again on December 1, in the hopes that you would return to continue the review (possibly to complete it, if there are no more issues to be addressed). I'm posting in the hopes that you see this on your talk page (in case pings aren't working); in the meantime, given your past editing patterns, where you stop editing for many months at a time, I'm going to request a second opinion/reviewer at the nomination page in case this is one of your extended absences. I hope to see you back soon. Thanks. ] (]) 20:58, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
1900-1: The newly formed Ling Association (now the Physical Education Association) set up a sub-committee to revise and publish the first set of rules. 250 copies were published and many changes were adopted.

Many voluntary associations for years had been doing their best to meet the problems. Children's Happy Evenings, Mrs. Humphrey Ward Play Centres, Guild of Play, the Boys' and Girls' Brigades, University Settlements, all took an active interest in fostering centres of recreation. The various school sports associations arranged matches for the more gifted children. But for the masses there was little opportunity for organised recreation.

Secondary schools were more fortunate. As soon as the qualified teach of PE and Games came on the scene at the turn of the century and physical education and games became a regular feature of the curriculum in the secondary schools, netball was played and developed very largely in London and other large industrial areas in the Midlands and the North to suit playground conditions and open space available. The rules and regulations of the game were laid down by the Ling Association (founded 1899), a body of expert gymnastic teachers. The game soon became highly skilled and a strong association formed throughout the country in these more privileged schools.

::Very interesting. :) Based on what I've been reading, I think the English were probably the dominant forces in spreading the game until probably the 1960s. At that point, New Zealand and Australia probably helped spread the game in Oceania. I would think that Caribbean players helped promote the games more on those island nations where the game wasn't as popular and in the United States. South Africa appears to be helping export the game to countries the general Southern African region. Seeing these trends is one of the reasons why I felt so vocal in the need to keep the sections by nation to understand how the game spread and how patterns differed with male and female administering of the game and the level of professionalism in the country, participations rates where available and what segments of the population were playing. --] (]) 00:41, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Kia ora! The invites you to read about the call for applications for a for Aotearoa New Zealand in 2024. Group members are happy to explain the process and discuss ideas with interested editors.
Hey. I wanted to thank you for the massive help on the good article process for the netball article. Things just got weirdly out of control. I know we don't fully agree on how information should be presented but I do think we've done a really, really good job at overall improving the article to what it was before. The second reviewer apparently has a history of problems with good article reviews. I'm not entirely certain how to resolve our differences regarding American women's basketball and English netball. :/ I think we both agree that the sport has roots in basketball. The question is the how much of an influence did American women have on what the English were doing and what of the shared history should be in there. (I'm inclined for less and seeing it put over on the history of netball article... but that's more because I can't find netball sources that support a connection, that cite the Ling Association being inspired by it, nor sources that support Australians and New Zealanders being inspired by the American women's game.) In any case, while we disagree, I don't hold any ill will or feel anything but real appreciation for the support you've given on trying to improve the article. Hopefully, we can fix things and try to get it improved.

On a back to the basketball issue, do you think it would be worth getting additional sources cited, talking it over on the history of netball, trying to improve the summary of the game's early development on that article? And after that's done, taking what would basically be a well cited lead and putting that into the netball article? I can probably find some sources for changes in tactics and some of the rules. (The All England Netball Association has details regarding that.) Doing it that way might make it easier. (And if the history section becomes too long, it shouldn't be an issue as length isn't supposed to be a good article criteria.) --] (]) 05:50, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

::The good article process shouldn't take that long. I asked several people about the process so I could make sure I knew what I was getting myself into. The guidelines suggest a week. I had people tell me that this experience was worse than many FACs they had been part of. Racepacket had been indefinitely blocked from Misplaced Pages before. A few people are apparently trying to get him blocked again. Their complaints are much the same as mine have been, with issues about wanting things included that make no sense, trying to insert factually incorrect information in the article, not adhering to the Manual of Style, etc.

::I should have removed the nomination earlier. There were some bits in there that just leave going WTF? The Olympic section has become a bit of a train wreck of wording. The British Council section should be integrated back in along side Olympic funding. The whole Olympic sections feels a bit disjointed if you want to take a crack at improving it. (Hawkeye7 added some information to GA1 that might be citable. He may also have put it into the article because I recall my last reading thought it sounded like an angry person made this edits to appease another person.) I found some book related citations that may be useful and I can share that on the talk page for netball.

::The history part is kind of really interesting. I was thinking it might make an interesting academic article to explore the parallels between the growth of basketball for American women and the growth of netball for the English. And beyond that, look to see if contemporary sources are citing women's basketball in the USA as the origins of the game. (As opposed to Naismith's game.) I've tried to provide sourcing to help explain my point of view and to help you as you appear to be the major contributor to the history article. It just isn't my area. (I've learned a huge amount about netball from editing the article but still not that knowledgeable.)

# NPOV violations. Racepacket reviewed both ] and ] with the clear intention of pushing a point of view that the sport was not popular in general, and specifically was not popular in the Cook Islands. This can be seen by his repeated claims of wanting more information on the popularity of the game, by his insistence in saying "X amount of countries of the Y amount of countries in Africa are affiliated with the regional federation." He wanted similar statements in every region. He wanted the total percentage of players as a representation of the country's total population. He wanted to know how many teams competed and to let people know that they were ranked X out of Y, to make the game appear less popular. He wanted to irresponsibly gender the article to highlight the fact that the game is played by women, and is thus less popular and less credible. He wanted to remove the country sections and information on statistics that showed relative popularity by country. He tried to get phrases like "most popular women's participation sport" in the country removed because they were biased, even if there were citations that supported this claim. He wanted to remove the Olympic sport part because by removing the Olympics, he makes the game appear less popular and credible as a sport. He demanded its removal even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary. He tried to diminish the importance of international competitions by treating international federations, similar to CONCACAF and CONMEBOL for FIFA into regional leagues that countries in the area compete in.

Improving Immunology Articles

Hi Liveste,

I am simply an editor who thinks some of the immunology articles on Misplaced Pages are far from complete and the quality can be easily improved. I'd love to do it all by myself, but it'd be even better to do it in a team, to be more efficient as well as to get a wider viewpoints (from the medical, molecular and cellular viewpoints for example). If you are interested, please go to here and just start editing. The purpose of the page (it's a new page) is simply to get everyone together and collaborate, as to ensure there's editors for different topics. I look forward to working with you soon, any help would be greatly appreciated. Kinkreet 00:49, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

the word "cognisant" in article on Māori people

On 19 May 2012 you added the following sentence to Māori people#Belief and religion:

Many stories from Māori mythology are cognisant with stories across the Pacific Ocean.

I believe you meant to use some other word than cognisant (which means "conscious", "aware", etc; and is nearly always followed by the preposition of – never, as far as I know, by with); but it's not obvious to me what word you should have used instead, so I'll leave it to you to make the change.

You need not respond to me about this unless you are certain that you did use the correct word, in which case I'd like to know what definition of cognisant you used and where you got it, because I can't find any that fits in that sentence. If you do respond, please do so here, so that the discussion stays in one place, and put {{Talkback|Liveste|the word "cognisant" in article on Māori people}} on my talk page.

Since this issue isn't really related to the content of the Māori people article but to your use of a word that I think is a mistake, this seems like the most appropriate place for it. Even if your use of cognisant is legitimate, you might want to choose a synonym that is less confusing to readers like me who are only familiar with its "aware " meaning.

Thanks.

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

Hi, Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Misplaced Pages:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

WikiProject Wikify: Current Backlog Reduction Plan

Hey, I noticed you marked yourself as a member of WikiProject Wikify and you are currently listed as active. I was wondering if you would be able to assist with our current backlog reduction plan. While traditional drives are more structured month-long sprints by WikiProject Wikify members, there is currently lacking activity within the project and in order to significantly reduce the incredible backlog, members are encouraged to review all articles marked with the Underlinked Template Message - {{underlinked}} - a list of which can be found here - to analyze the worthiness of the template message on the given article. Articles that have nothing to link or are have had wikilinks sufficiently added should have the template removed to clear the backlog and make it easier for editors to find articles in genuine need of wikification. This can be done by any editor; however, all editors should consider joining if they haven't done so already. Thank you!

Disambiguation link notification for May 25

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kate Lloyd (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Thanks for uploading File:West Coast Fever.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Misplaced Pages under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Misplaced Pages. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:10, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

File:Samoa Airways logo 2018.png

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Misplaced Pages non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Misplaced Pages talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Māori history

Thank you for creating the Māori history article. The history section on the Māori people article was long and a split is justified. Are you able to trim that section to summarise the content you have now moved to the separate article? It doesn't seem practical to have duplicate information across two articles (a section and an article with near identical content). Perhaps the history section could be divided into two neat subsections, 'Pre-European contact' and 'post-colonial'? --Hazhk (talk) 18:38, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

Netball in the United States

Back in August, someone proposed a merge between Netball in the United States and a draft sitting in your userspace. There has been absolutely no discussion on the topic, and it doesn't look like that draft has been worked on recently. I don't know if you have any plans for the article, but I figured I'd let you know rather than my initial reaction, which was to remove the merge tag outright and move on. hewhoamareismyself 06:32, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Misplaced Pages.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Talk:Kalākaua's 1874–75 state visit to the United States/GA1

Liveste, you opened the above review on October 24, put it on hold that day, and haven't edited on Misplaced Pages since.

Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:58, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Māori biography stubs

A tag has been placed on Category:Māori biography stubs requesting that it be speedily deleted from Misplaced Pages. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines. Liz 14:11, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
