Arik

Is there a better way to phrase this? I understand why the current text calls out this usage, but since we don't discuss Sharon's nickname in this article, the looks like it is marking an error, rather than the deliberate use of a familiar name by someone close to him. If I had a better suggestion, I would supply it, but regardless I think this part of the article needs improvement. 172.9.22.150 (talk) 00:50, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

Forget it. Bladesmulti (talk) 00:52, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
Removed. You don't use sic for nicknames, you use it when you are quoting something with an error in it and want to show that the error was made in the original. Downwoody (talk) 01:28, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
A better way of pointing out the nickname is to say something like Peres, referring to Ariel Sharon by his nickname, "Arik", said:" but you simply don't write (sic) after a nickname. Downwoody (talk) 01:32, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

Quotefarm

This article is a rather unhealthy quotefarm of empty rhetoric. I have just pared down some of the quotes, and will continue to consolidate and pare down as more reactions become available. -- Ohc  09:25, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

No you will not do it as you see fit. Your idea of someone being notable or not is not objecvtive fact. The Palestinian leader you removed was not supported by others. Further, your arbitrary nature of paring down as you see fit is not objective either.
Further yet, you seem to indicate you will go about doing things your way and that is not constructive editinglLihaas (talk) 11:32, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Even if you think the Palestinian you insist on quoting verbatim was notable, and the jury seems to be out on him, what he said was vitriolic rant that I excised with all the "sweet nothings" from other Likud politicians. Of course we should have appropriate quotes, but my approach is to summarise and use quotes in moderation, and is if anything less more "arbitrary" than your inclusionist "quote everything that can be cited to the media" approach. You're dead wrong if you think that if it's sourced it should not be removed. And if you're just looking for coverage from people who hated him, for some "balance", you ought to consider covering the angle that many Israelis hated him for what he did. Plenty of quotable quotes there. Have with it. -- Ohc  13:07, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
Nice one User talk:Ohconfucius, have to avoid quote farming, and don't add any red link no namers either. Bladesmulti (talk) 13:14, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

All over bar the shouting?

I'm amazed at just how fast the quotefarm grew. Two days after the funeral, and the article has hardly moved. Oh, don't I know... Sound bites grab your attention for next to no effort. It's all bling. Quotes are easy: just copy and then paste. Like this disgraceful dumping of an entire gratuitous quote into an article which then stayed for 7 months until someone (yours truly) saw fit to pare it down to size.

Let's build an article worthy of the title. We need to write more encyclopaedic content and not copy or otherwise replicate news stories, but it's harder work. There are sufficient sources for the funeral.. There are lots of reactions that don't eulogise him that need to be written about. But if the presently assembled editors are no longer interested in following through, we may be better off changing the title to Reactions to the death of Ariel Sharon; or redirect the name space back to the biography and be done with it. -- Ohc  07:21, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Dignitaries that DID NOT ATTEND

Perhaps something should be included about the fact that no dignitaries from the Arab World, Africa, or Latin America attended his funeral.
