Greetings, BMK! Sorry to read above that your Christmas didn't go so well. Considering that, this might be an annoying question... but can you help guide the Jingle Bells article towards GA status? If that is not possible, I will have to just go ahead with the nomination and rely fully on the reviewer's help, which might be an inconvenience given our mutual unfamiliarity with the topic. You have 242 edits to the page, making any participation from you highly valuable.-- '']]'' 20:51, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

:{{ping|MaranoFan}} Thanks for contacting me. Yes, I've contributed a fair amount to that article over the years, but I cannot hold myself out as any kind of expert on the subject. Considering that, and the fact that my level of participation on Misplaced Pages is very low right now -- almost random, in fact -- due to a variety of family crises, means that I'm going to have to turn down your invitation to participate in bringing the article to GA status. I do, however, wish you the best of luck with it, and I look forward to seeing the result of your efforts. Best, ] (]) 05:28, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi Ken? The reason for changing some of the graphic "look" of the article was due to the large amount of white spaces that were involved. I can live with the columns and even the reference section but can there be a tightening of the white spaces? BTW, I can do a lot to provide details on the historical accuracy/inaccuracy of the film- see the talk page. ] (]) 16:16, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
:Hi, good to see you again! I just finished leaving some comments on the talk page regarding the historical accuracy issue. As for white space - the columnization reduces white space, and I guess I'm not seeing where else you're seeing it in the references. Can you be specific? (If you mean my reduction of the citations from 3 columns to 2, there just aren't enough cites to justify three columns, and in any case, two columns doesn't take up much more space than 3). Let me know. ] (]) 16:25, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
::The view that I get might be related to the type of monitor I am using as it does give an exaggerated "white area" around the cast section. My using a single column seemed to eliminate this, however, I am not "wedded" to my changes as they were mainly formatting rather than content issues. There was a large body of work that involved criticism of the film and its director's attempt to rewrite history into a black-and-white argument against war-mongering, typical for the times, likely but, nonetheless, an anathema to historians, especially, aviation historians. ] (]) 16:37, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
:::That material would seem to be perfectly acceptable to use, and a plus for the article, as long as it's cited. ] (]) 16:41, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
::::My interest in this film, and incidentally, the subject matter, is from knowing Denny May. Denny is "Wop" May's son, the neophyte pilot who was in Von Richthofen's sights, that fateful last flight. ] (]) 16:46, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
:::::What did you think of the film as a film? I thought it was weak, poorly directed, and badly acted, overall. ] (]) 16:54, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
::::::The film has literally disappeared from broadcast television repeats, save for a TCM showing recently and as a historical record, has been blotted from the collective memory. None of the sources I reviewed except for those which deal with Roger Corman's career, even reference the film, either as an aviation or war film of note. Personally, I found the film jarring to watch as I noticed the errors throughout and spent more time nitpicking and tut-tutting than appreciating the story. I found the leads were cartoonish and over-blown representations of "the knights" of the air, something that Corman may have wanted to convey, as he was making, in essence, an anti-war film within a war film. ] (]) 17:08, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
::::::::I tried to videotape the film when it was shown on TCM, but my videotape didn't have enough room to tape more than a scene. Were you able to make a reasonable copy off air? Email me as I would like to get a copy for my files- now over 2,000 aviation films (and counting) as I am pondering the prospect of writing a book about the topic of aviation on the silver screen. ] (]) 18:57, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
:::::::::Sorry, I recorded it on my DVR and erased it after watching. Did you know that you can stream TCM films online? Perhaps you can connect that to a VCR?<p>If you do the book, drop me a note, I'd love to read it. Also, most of my collection is on VHS, so if you're missing anything, let me know and I'll see if I have it. ] (]) 19:02, 6 July 2014 (UTC)
{{od}} I have transferred nearly all my video (Beta and VHS, yes, Beta!) onto DVDs. I have two of James Farmer's books on aviation films and lately picked up Mark Carlson's ''Flying on Film'' which combined, do an extensive look at hundreds of films. With TCM, I have been able to catch some of the more obscure titles such as ''Winning Your Wings'' with Lt James Stewart narrating. The one film I keep missing is the Rosalind Russell-Fred MacMurray biopic, ''Flight for Freedom'' which was loosely based on Amelia Earhart. ] (]) 21:30, 6 July 2014 (UTC)

== Answering you questioning about my edits ==
Dear Beyond My Ken, | |||
I wanted to get back to you. I am relatively new to editing and wasn't aware that I was not following the necessary protocols. I was not trying to vandalize any articles, but I was trying to make them match the data in other Misplaced Pages articles. For example, according to the Misplaced Pages page titled "List of tallest buildings in Atlanta," the GLG Grand is listed as the eleventh-tallest building in Atlanta because the buildings 1180 Peachtree and 3344 Peachtree are taller. So according to this article, it is not the ninth, as it says in the article that I edited named "GLG Grand." Here is the link of the Misplaced Pages page, "List of tallest buildings in Atlanta" where I got this information.
https://en.wikipedia.org/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Atlanta

Hi BMK, long time. I see you commenting at various pages on my way-too-long watchlist, but one way or another, we haven't interacted for a while; I hope all is well with you. I remember something many moons ago where I came around to your way of seeing things regarding placement of maintenance templates, after starting out in opposition. I don't have much recollection anymore about the details, but the bottom line was that either I placed a maint. template on a page or someone else did, and then you removed it, saying (I think) that it didn't have consensus, or something similar. At first, I was bent out of shape, thinking anybody could place a template on their own say so, and someone else shouldn't remove it based on ]. Eventually, your reasoning won me over, and I've changed my view on this to more aligned with yours. Can you fill me in (again?) on your reasoning, and ideally, link me to some guidance? I find myself on the other side of the fence now, removing a MT placed by someone else, and it would be nice to recall what it is you said that persuaded me. Does this ring a bell at all? Thanks, and hope you are well. ] (]) 07:55, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

Removing the separate section header and subheaders for the Bibliography was completely useless. The citations and the bibliography are two separate sections and should be presented as such. Your change makes it more difficult to edit the Bibliography, is in my view also less pleasant to read, and accomplishes nothing.
== STFU == | |||
3 | |||
The article originally said that the election of Grover Cleveland to the presidency in 1884 “ended” Longstreet’s political career. You changed “ended” to “interrupted,” implying that Longstreet would someday resume involvement in politics. This is false. Longstreet never held public office again. I also found the language “return of a Democratic administration” to be confusing, as Cleveland had never been president before.
Your version of the "Later life" section contains numerous excessively short one-sentence “paragraphs.”
noted. ] (]) 12:58, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
You made numerous edits which interrupted source to text integrity. Basically, you broke up paragraphs and added citations to new sources (mainly the Varon book) but did not adjust the page numbers in the original citations. As a general rule, it is usually not necessary to add sources if a sentence is already reliably sourced. But if you are going to do so, and you make edits in a way that moves the original citations elsewhere, then you need to make sure that those citations stay attached to the information that they are supposed to verify.
== Feedback about my recent Misplaced Pages edit. ==
I will restore some copyedits that I made, and I welcome you to re-add citations to the Varon book. But do not break up paragraphs in ways that are unnecessary, especially when that disrupts the citations. I would appreciate if you would also take note of the other statements that I made. ] (]) 20:19, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

::::One can be a public figure without holding public office. :: Hi again. The examples provided are what has been agreed upon via consensus by the Misplaced Pages community and what has been adopted as an element of style as dictated by the site's ]. It's certainly possible that some outside MOSes do not follow this guideline but then again, the users of this site have, by consensus, elected to abide by the style format they designed. This style can be seen in many quality articles including (hopefully) all ], such as ] ("An earthquake at 8:32:17 a.m. PDT (UTC−7) on Sunday, May 18, 1980, caused the entire weakened north face to slide away"), ] ("The 1689 Boston revolt was a popular uprising on April 18, 1689, against the rule of Sir Edmund Andros"), and today's featured article, ] ("Following the sculptor's death on August 3, 1907, Roosevelt insisted that the new eagle be finished and struck that month"). Whoever classified "Baby Doll" as an American black comedy on Misplaced Pages must have never seen it, out of their mind, or bending over backwards to give credit to blacks where it's not due. Hi, BMK. While I was browsing ], you came to my attention as a transparent editor who has engaged on this topic over an extended period of time. As the subject ''is'' contentious (maybe needlessly so), I'm wary of even proposing anything on the talk page.
Just checking - isn't it the case that a footnote section should either be called "References" or "Notes", or be two separate sections per ]? ::Regarding the formatting of notes/reference sections, MOS takes no stance on any specific format which is preferred. :::Sure, just thought it might save some time if you could point me at a clear "here's why we sometimes do it like this" essay. What's the reasoning, then? :I don't care if you directed the damn movie, the plot section you wrote was one of the most poorly written pieces of material I've ever seen on Misplaced Pages. (Talk page stalkers who'd like to take a look can see it , in the left column.) It was a run-on paragraph, essential words were completely left out, and some things just didn't make any sense at all. I started to correct it, but realized that not only was it going to take a lot of time, but that a B horror film didn't need a plot section that specific. :::That "one of the most poorly written pieces of material I've ever seen on Misplaced Pages" was my first submission ever on the site so thanks for rubbing that in. The only other defenses that I have are that I've seen far worse material on this wiki (the fact that I have been cleaning them up, adding information, references, new articles an so forth just proves my point), also the film itself does not make any sense and what I wrote for the film was quite accurate.--] (]) 06:43, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
::::As I wrote above, I did start to edit, but it would have taken too long, and was unnecessary. As is this conversation. Jingle Bells
You have 242 edits to the page, making any participation from you highly valuable.-- NØ 20:51, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
- @MaranoFan: Thanks for contacting me. Best, Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:28, 1 February 2024 (UTC)

Horseshoe Theory
Hi, I edited "Horseshoe theory" just before you. The odd spacing in " Voilà, comme les extrêmes se rencontrent ! " is actually the original 19th-century typesetting, which I imitated. Is there a Misplaced Pages rule that typesetting has to be normalized to 21st-century standards?
I'm not intending to revert it or anything, just curious. ScarletPlanet (talk) 20:47, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
- I wouldn't say that there is a rule, per se, but our primary concern should be communicating with our readers, and using contemporary formatting makes things easier for them. Beyond My Ken (talk) 17:25, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
Hello Beyond My Ken,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

A childhood friend from the 80s died today, rather than sleeping I've distracted myself via wikipedia. While initialling perusing https://en.wikipedia.org/Molecular_recognition I somehow ended up down the rabbit hole of James Watson's scientific racism, where a few editors have a habit of removing any criticism even when well sourced, doing the same for other like minded bigots. Remind me about this?
Hi BMK, long time. I see you commenting at various pages on my way-too-long watchlist, but one way or another, we haven't interacted for a while; I hope all is well with you. I remember something many moons ago where I came around to your way of seeing things regarding placement of maintenance templates, after starting out in opposition. I don't have much recollection anymore about the details, but the bottom line was that either I placed a maint. template on a page or someone else did, and then you removed it, saying (I think) that it didn't have consensus, or something similar. At first, I was bent out of shape, thinking anybody could place a template on their own say so, and someone else shouldn't remove it based on WP:WTRMT. Mathglot (talk) 07:55, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Mathglot: Sorry to take so long to respond to this. I vaguely recall the discussion you're referring to, but not enough to recall where and when it took place. There are a few older comments on my "Thoughts" page which may trigger your memory. In particular, this discussion from 2008 may be useful.Incidentally, I haven't changed my views in the 16 years since then, although I'm less inclined to make an issue out of it, unfortunately because the Misplaced Pages community's inherent intransigence and lack of interest in change often doesn't lend itself to consideration of how the project would benefit from small evolutionary adjustments; it seems that people would rather stick to communal authoritarianism instead. File:300 & 302 Canal Street.jpg
Many, many years ago you uploaded an image of some loft buildings on Canal Street, with some notes about their history and architecture. It came in handy for an article I was working on, so I thought I might return the favor with a fun fact about its later history. The building on the left was the subject of a very famous experimental film called Wavelength, which uses as one of its main visual elements the building's tall, mullioned windows. hinnk (talk) 22:04, 28 July 2024 (UTC)
- That's very interesting - I have an LP by Michael Snow in my collection, Music for Piano, Whistling, Mic & Tape Recorder, which I haven't listened to in years.Do you have a source that verifies that 300 Canal is the building used for the film? I'd like to add that information to the photo's file, but I generally like to have a source to cite. Beyond My Ken (talk) 04:03, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

James Longstreet
I have reverted your recent changes to the James Longstreet article. I have identified the following problems:
Your addition that Helen Dortch Longstreet was a journalist appears to be unsupported by either of the sources attached to that sentence.
Removing the separate section header and subheaders for the Bibliography was completely useless. The citations and the bibliography are two separate sections and should be presented as such. Your change makes it more difficult to edit the Bibliography, is in my view also less pleasant to read, and accomplishes nothing. 3 The article originally said that the election of Grover Cleveland to the presidency in 1884 “ended” Longstreet’s political career.
I will restore some copyedits that I made, and I welcome you to re-add citations to the Varon book. But do not break up paragraphs in ways that are unnecessary, especially when that disrupts the citations. I would appreciate if you would also take note of the other statements that I made. Display name 99 (talk) 20:19, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- I will be restoring my edits, as the information is sourced to the Varon book, which you should read before making any additional reversions. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:51, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- The Bibliography is still totally editable in the "References: section. This style is frequently used on Misplaced Pages, and is not forbidden by the MOS. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:01, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- Please do presume to lecture me on how to edit Misplaced Pages. I've been editing for 19 years and over 60,000 edits and am well aware of how to edit. Your objections to format and style are noted and rejected as irrelevant. Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:01, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- One can be a public figure without holding public office. Longstreet continued to try to achieve office almost continually after he stepped down as Marshall, so his political cafreer was not "ended". That is why the article already said that he went into "semi-retirement", not "retirement". Beyond My Ken (talk) 22:01, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

“National Socialist Program”
Hi, BMK. While I was browsing Nazism/Archive_29, you came to my attention as a transparent editor who has engaged on this topic over an extended period of time. As the subject is contentious (maybe needlessly so), I'm wary of even proposing anything on the talk page.
Nonetheless: I noticed (thanks to this particular discussion) that the title of the article National Socialist Program essentially violates NPOV (or VOICE etc.) in the same way as outlined in Talk:Nazism/FAQ. AFAIK, none of the citations (which are already questionable—e.g., Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn) even support the use of this title. If there is any evidence that the Nazis themselves called their 25-point plan "the National Socialist Program", I am unaware of it. (Do you know of any?)
I was surprised not to see any discussion of this on the talk page, especially after I saw you'd been to that same page, yourself.
What do you think?
