::::You're welcome ! I am writing about sports (nordic combined, rowing and hockey) on french wiki and I know how hard it is to find good pictures. --] (]) 16:28, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
:::::{{U|Shev123}} cool. The only thing I am concerned over is that the licensing applied to those images currently means they may not be used on Misplaced Pages as they have no evidence of PD in the US.... Any ideas on that? ] (]) 16:29, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
::::::I thought it was fine but I am not sure anymore. It may be good : ] but a specialist might be needed. --] (]) 20:36, 10 April 2017 (UTC)
:::::::{{tps}} {{yo|Shev123}} since the BNF rowing photographs you uploaded are credited to a press agency instead of individuals, I believe the copyright period is 70 years after publication (see ]). So the photographs from 1923 to 1925 are public domain in the US with the {{tlx|PD-URAA}} tag, since they were public domain in France by January 1, 1996 (and of course, anything earlier than January 1, 1923 is {{tlx|PD-1923}}). Photos dated 1926 and later had their copyrights restored by ] and won't be public domain until 95 years after publication, unless you can show that the photos were also published in the United States within 30 days either without a copyright notice or with a copyright notice but copyright wasn't renewed (see http://copyright.cornell.edu/resources/publicdomain.cfm). You can ask for help with investigating the status of the files at ]. All of this is moot if BNF waived their rights to the images with a license such as , but I can't find anything like that on their site. Hope this was of some help. ](]) 18:27, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
::::::::{{U|Clpo13}} Thanks for your answer. I have two other questions for you :
::::::::*The says (in short) that the French National Librairy bought the images when the compagnies ran out of business. Does it changed something ? (I think the images could have in the public domain before the 70 years)
::::::::*Is these images of 1932 University Boat Race‎ and 1933 University Boat Race‎ could be upload on English[REDACTED] instead of Commons ? Thanks --] (]) 10:47, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
:::::::::*I don't think that changes anything. It looks like any images that are in the public domain are there because of age, not because of anything BNF did.
:::::::::*Unfortunately, no. On Commons, images must be public domain in the source country ''and'' the United States (]). On the English Misplaced Pages, images just need to be public domain in the United States (]). Since these images were published after 1923 and were still copyrighted on the URAA date (January 1, 1996), they're still copyrighted in the United States. You might be able to make a case for ] of a particular image if you can satisfy the criteria at ]. ](]) 20:30, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
:::::::::Ok, thanks for your answer. I will ask for deletion the images for the 1932 and 1933 races. So these images are going to be in the public domain in the US in nearly 10 years, is that correct ? --] (]) 09:47, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

], Anaheim, as the ] succumbed 8–3 to the ]]]
I have never been to the Angels ballpark, so I can't give you any experienced advice. But there are various factors, including where you want to be vs. how close you can get. A lower-level box seat would be preferable, but those might all be season-ticket holders. However, in terms of getting food and drink, the stands (and especially the box seat areas) should have plenty of vendors walking around trying to sell stuff. Another factor could be how familiar you are with the game itself (though I suspect you've got a pretty good idea of the basics) and thus how far away you can tolerate being from the infield and still be able to follow what's going on. The Angels website might be good for ticket availability, and it's also possible they've got a virtual-reality look from every section of seats, as some team sites do. But at the very least, they'll have an overhead seating chart. ←] '']'' ]→ 17:19, 12 April 2017 (UTC)
:If money is no object, you might be able to get a ticket from a "scalper" hanging around outside the park (if they even have such in Anaheim). Barring that, you could call the box office and see what's available. And if you want to change your world a little more, you could sit in the bleachers and see how the other half lives. ←] '']'' ]→ 17:59, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

== WikiCup 2024 November newsletter ==
:I hope you're able to get a good ticket and to enjoy the game tonight. I'll be watching the box score on ESPN to see what's happening. If for some reason you can't get to the game, there is always ] and ] as tourist options. ←] '']'' ]→ 16:57, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
::Thanks! ] (]) 16:58, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
:::I hadn't realized it was an afternoon game. Effectively over after the top of the 6th, so if a large percentage of the 30,000 people attending started heading for the exits, then traffic wouldn't have been too bad for you if you stayed for the whole thing. The box score suggests the extent of the Hispanic influence in the sport. Baseball is big throughout Latin America. I'm interested to know where you sat and whether you got to interact a lot with nearby fans. And whether you took any good pics to post here or elsewhere. d:) ←] '']'' ]→ 01:49, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
::::I was pretty high up, along the right foul line, I'll post a picture later. For an MLB virgin it was perfect. Texas started brilliantly, some no-hoper hit the first ball of the afternoon foul, everyone jeered (although there were loads of Texas fans), and then proceeded to smash the second around 425 feet (he did it the hard way). Errors in the field destroyed the Angels chances, although the last-gasp homer was nice because we got to see some flames and fireworks and all that jazz. I'm a fan (although not necessarily of Pooholes and the Angels, especially lazy fielding from ], they were lousy). ] (]) 01:53, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
:::::{{U|Baseball Bugs}} another thing - it's not even a "diamond" any more! Edges cut out etc, what gives? ] (]) 02:03, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
::::::Excellent photo! Not the worst place to be, and a good spot to follow the arc of Gomez's home run. And if you connect the bases like dots and blank out the rest, you still get that "diamond" effect. When the leadoff man knocks one out, that's usually an ill omen. You might have noticed that 592 behind centerfield. Although it looks about that far away from the plate, it's actually a career homer countdown for Sr. Pujols, who entered the season with 591. Hitting over 500 (legitimately) is pretty much a ticket to the Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, after some championship years in St. Louis, he landed on the Angels, who seem to be perpetual underachievers. Anyway, I'm very glad you had a good time at "The Big A" and hope that you collected a bunch of souvenirs for your trophy case back home. :) ←] '']'' ]→ 02:53, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
:::::::I had a blast. Pooholes underperformed on the day, but I understand he has a ten-year contract so he's probably not too phased by that. I loved my time there, from the "all rise for the national anthem", to the "kissing cam" to the "seventh inning stretch" (I've been whistling ] for the last couple of hours), most of the employees I met were over 60, it was great. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat. Next time I'm in the States, let's do it together and you explain everything I'm not really getting! (You don't even need a passport!) ] (]) 02:58, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

::{{U|Bishonen}}, {{U|Geni}} as Coffee has temporarily stepped away as a result of these punitive actions, I'd still like confirmation that you both agree that the block is purely punitive and in no way helps protect Misplaced Pages from further damage, particularly as the entire episode was closed down before the overtly excessive one-week block was applied, and in light of some other admins direct personal attacks which Bishonen was completely aware of yet chose to do absolutely nothing. Or shall we do ANI again and drag back all the history? ] (]) 21:07, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
:::I of course can't speak for Bishonen's block. However admins on some level need to been seen to not be playing favorites. We can hardly expect people to respect civility policy if we don't apply it to admins. Completely pulling Bishonen's block would have created problems with future civility policy enforcement. At the same time a week was clearly excessive.] (]) 21:26, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
::::{{U|Geni}} I forgot to say I appreciated your efforts but you spoke with Bishonen, a perfectly acceptable outcome would have been to suggest an unblock. Do you agree this is now a punitive block as the whole episode had been dealt with by fellow admins before Bishonen got involved, apparently without doing sufficient reading in any case? ] (]) 21:29, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
:::::No I've already explained my reasoning and that had nothing to do with punitive.] (]) 21:35, 14 April 2017 (UTC)
::::::But the block, including the current one, '''''is''''' punitive whether you think it or not. The episode had concluded but yet a punitive block was applied, which you reduced, but which remains punitive. I can see we need to take this to ANI. I'll let you know when it's up. ] (]) 21:38, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

WikiCup 2024 November newsletter

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, Delaware BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points, Canada Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points, BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points, Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and Christmas Island AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!

The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Misplaced Pages has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:10, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
