Between them during round 4, contestants achieved 12 featured articles, 3 featured lists, 3 featured pictures, 126 good articles, 46 DYK entries, 14 ITN entries, 67 featured article candidate reviews and 147 good article reviews. Congratulations to our eight finalists and all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Misplaced Pages and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. ] (]), and ] (])
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews on 143 good articles, one hundred more than the number of good articles they claimed for, thus making a substantial dent in the review backlog. Well done all!

I saw that you revdeled some transphobic doxxing earlier on today and I was wondering if you would be kind enough to do the same again on the same article and on one other:
* is on the same article as before and, while not quite so extravagant in its accusations this time, it still reveals what appears to be private information and baselessly insults the subject of the article.
* (not from the same IP) is on another article about a trans woman and again reveals what appears to be private information. Going back in the history of that article the same private information has been added before, and not always revdeled, so it might be worth searching for older revisions adding the same claims and revdeling those too. I have no idea how much of a mission it would be to search through the old revisions. If the admin tools make it easy then I think it might be worth doing, if not then maybe not.

Hi Vanamonde93. There have been many suspicious IP socks who have attacked me or have made suggestions about me that aren't true because they don't like my content position. They hop IPs and post them over and over on admin talk pages. I'm not Symphony Regalia and I don't have a relation to that user. I don't think it's fair for case to be left open like a fishing expedition when both forms of evidence don't match.
== 2019 Arbitration Committee pre-election RfC ==

It should be clear by the checks that I'm a different person, and even with three super long posts from suspicious users the evidence is still weak because it isn't true so it feels like a bias to leave it open. Now other editors will interpret it as a call to canvass their friends and "throw stuff at the wall to see what sticks" which isn't fair to me or the other targets. ] (]) 20:20, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

You are receiving this message because you ] as a user who would like to be notified when the 2019 RfC begins. ] (]) 21:52, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
:{{re|Ethiopian Epic}} Leaving that SPI open doesn't directly affect you. If I closed it, another user could add a new report just as easily as they could post more evidence. If these editors choose to post off-topic evidence, they are not immune from investigation and sanction themselves. ] (]) 20:27, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

::It makes me feel unwelcome it's like aiming a weapon at me for an undetermined amount of time even though an investigation was already conducted. Previous admins have also investigated this 2 or 3 times and they all found there was no merit. One of the people doing it is sock of one of the involved editors abusing proxies to spread lies and tie editors together who have a content view he doesn't like.
::https://www.ipqualityscore.com/free-ip-lookup-proxy-vpn-test/lookup/14.192.214.186
::Leaving it open even after the investigation will encourage opposing people to come nitpick every little thing they can possibly find which is easy to do among users who have the same content position. If they have to open a new case they will be more inclined to bring evidence with merit. I don't think it's fair treatment. I'm not Symphony and I shouldn't have to go through all of these aspersions from someone using IP socks. ] (]) 00:09, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
:::It has not been "left open after the investigation", I have asked for more information, which I routinely do at SPI (I did that twice today, as it happens). Please let this matter drop: if there is no evidence against you, no action will be taken, and if there is evidence, closing this report will not prevent it from being analyzed in the future. Empirically, {{tq|"If they have to open a new case they will be more inclined to bring evidence with merit"}} is simply not true. ] (]) 02:25, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

:Hi PerspicazHistorian. I will discuss the sources you provide on the talk page, as is appropriate, but I want to give you some general advice. You cannot write a Misplaced Pages article by writing a sentence you personally believe to be true, and then typing that sentence into google to look for sources. Not only will you find spurious sources, you will also miss all the sources that don't share that POV. If you want to write an article about "Appa" as a title, you need to find sources that discuss "Appa" ''as a title''. If you don't have such sources, you cannot write that article. This is true everywhere on Misplaced Pages, but when we are working on complex and contentious topics like caste or linguistics, you need particularly high quality sources, and they need to very explicitly support content that you are adding. Best, ] (]) 18:36, 29 December 2024 (UTC)

Vanamonde, thanks again for changing the ] number from 86400 to 43200.

Back in August, with the backlog enormous, we had a long discussion on the DYK talk page and ultimately consensus determined that the best solution was to go from promoting one set to the main page to two sets a day, and the way to do that so the DYKUpdateBot runs twice a days rather than once is to change Time Between Updates from 86400 (86400 seconds, or 24 hours) to 43200 (43200 seconds, or 12 hours). This was done on August 12.

We've continued running at two sets per day for over a month now while the backlog has slowly decreased, but I was very surprised to discover a return to one a day—43200 back to 86400—had been done with no discussion within minutes of the suggestion being made, so I asked for a reversion, which was only resisted because Maile incorrectly thought there was a timing problem that prevented it. (There isn't. It's true it's a bad idea to go back from 12 hours to 24 hours when the most recent bot run was at midday, because then the subsequent changes are done at noon rather than midnight, and we're always supposed to have at least one change a day at midnight. But here, the most recent bot run was at midnight.) Hence my request to you, since Maile had finished editing for the day.

At some point in the next several days, it will be necessary to go back to one set per day because the number of approved hooks combined with the number of hooks in preps and queues will be too low, at which point we'll go back to 86400, but I'm guessing that won't be until Tuesday or even as late as Thursday or Friday if approvals pick up.

What's going to happen next is that DYKUpdateBot will run at 12:00 UTC, promote the latest queue to the main page and update ] from 2019-09-15T00:00:00Z to 2019-09-15T12:00:00Z during its run, and then the bot will wait around until it's 43200 seconds after 2019-09-15T12:00:00Z, at which point it runs again.

Sorry if this is too much detail, but I wanted to be sure you were comfortable with what I asked you to do, since you were willing to trust my word on it, something I very much appreciate. Many thanks. ] (]) 06:06, 15 September 2019 (UTC)
:{{re|BlueMoonset}} To be honest, I ''did'' know a lot of this, but I still appreciate the explanation, because now I have something to refer to if necessary; our documentation pages on this subject are quite difficult to follow, where they exist at all. I think what happened was that I misunderstood the intent; I thought you were trying to make sure the change to 1 set a day was made at the right time of day, whereas it was more a question of making sure it happened on the right day. Also; can we get you a mop, please? <span style="font-family:Papyrus">] (])</span> 21:21, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

When you requested that this ran at TFA on the 90th anniversary of her birth, 21 October, I provisionally listed it because it looked near to promotion. However, it's still not promoted, and I see a new comment from {{u|Casliber}} today. Because of the way the FA bots work, I can't do the rest of the month beyond 20 October until this is scheduled, and I'm on holiday from 30 September for two weeks, so in practice if I can't list it in the next week, it probably won't run. ... seeking your advice.😁 I am confused, concerned and somewhat hesitant to openly express my views and that should not be happening in a venue where people are expected to openly express their views. I will admit that some of my concerns may be attributable to the residue of caution that lingers from my days as an ] judge with the power of the pen to mark a horse's performance as the winning run or deduct points from it for what appeared to be a penalty that occurred within seconds during that 2½ minute run. There was always the chance that it may not have been a penalty at all; but rather, an illusion created by the angle at which I was viewing the performance...iow, perspective. Only a review of the video would confirm if I had marked it correctly, and a review could only occur if my score was contested. Considering the amount of $$ that was at stake (typically 5 to 6 figures), contested scores were relatively common. I'm happy to say that the videos actually served to boost my confidence as a judge, and I eventually resigned with no black marks against me. With regards to how the latter relates to what I'm involved in today, let's just say I have an inkling of what goes on in the minds of admins who are determined to do the right thing, and as you already know, I have the utmost respect for you and Tony, and greatly value your opinions. My biggest concern at the moment is over the path some editors have chosen when responding to the POV of editors with whom they oppose - after all, their iVotes greatly effect the outcome.

The beehive reaction at the dramah boards is even more disconcerting, especially in cases of ''wrongthink''. Vendettas and attempts to rid oneself of political opposition often materializes under separate cover making it harder to detect - and I may be mistaken, but there appears to be political bent present which tends to distract from and lessen the importance of the actual issue. Regardless of the motivation, there is a fervor at ANI that makes this cowgirl think back to the Old West and ]. No, I wasn't there - I read about it. 😁 I am also a bit concerned that the reaction to being offended has become the focus instead of it being on who made the offensive comment (which was rather insensitive), as well as the position that if I didn't find it offensive, you shouldn't, either; the latter being pure POV. If making offensive statements (perceived or otherwise) is protected speech on WP, then being offended by them should be equally protected, regardless of the topic. There are some parallels to the antisemitism discussion at ANI which are driving my overall concerns, the most important being the potential rise in ''thought police'', ''wrongthink'' and actions against an editor for their personal POV. I can't help but wonder how the allegations of racism will be handled at AP2 after the ANI case is closed. Allegations of racism at AP2 are not difficult to find, most of which are not supported by anything but opinions based on ''guilt by association''. If saying someone quoted an antisemitic statement is the same as accusing them of being antisemitic, the same should apply to similar statements about racism. Vanamonde--if you don't mind, can you remove that question? I don't know if an answer would change anyone's mind; in addition, it either pretty much dictates how the candidate will have to answer, or it will be just another opportunity to shine the light on someone who is ''not'' running for admin, and their poorly-hidden alternative account. :{{re|RoySmith}} The widths of the various sections on the main page are fixed. Their lengths vary. As a result, there is often blank space under either OTD or DYK (more often under DYK, at the moment, though that's not always been the case historically). WikiCup 2023 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with anyone scoring less than 673 points being eliminated. It was a high scoring round with all but one of the contestants who progressed to the final having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  • New York (state) Epicgenius, with 2173 points topping the scores, gained mainly from a featured article, 38 good articles and 9 DYKs. He was followed by
  • Sammi Brie, with 1575 points, gained mainly from a featured article, 28 good articles and 50 good article reviews. Close behind was
  • Thebiguglyalien, with 1535 points mainly gained from a featured article, 15 good articles, 26 good article reviews and lots of bonus points.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them and within 24 hours of the end of the final. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.

I will be standing down as a judge after the end of the contest. I think the Cup encourages productive editors to improve their contributions to Misplaced Pages and I hope that someone else will step up to take over the running of the Cup. Sturmvogel 66 (talk), and Cwmhiraeth (talk)

SPI Case close and suspicious users casting aspersions

Hi Vanamonde93. There have been many suspicious IP socks who have attacked me or have made suggestions about me that aren't true because they don't like my content position. They hop IPs and post them over and over on admin talk pages. I'm not Symphony Regalia and I don't have a relation to that user. I don't think it's fair for case to be left open like a fishing expedition when both forms of evidence don't match.

EEpic (talk) 20:20, 23 December 2024 (UTC)

@Ethiopian Epic: Leaving that SPI open doesn't directly affect you. If I closed it, another user could add a new report just as easily as they could post more evidence. If these editors choose to post off-topic evidence, they are not immune from investigation and sanction themselves. Vanamonde93 (talk) 20:27, 23 December 2024 (UTC)
It makes me feel unwelcome it's like aiming a weapon at me for an undetermined amount of time even though an investigation was already conducted. Previous admins have also investigated this 2 or 3 times and they all found there was no merit. One of the people doing it is sock of one of the involved editors abusing proxies to spread lies and tie editors together who have a content view he doesn't like.
https://www.ipqualityscore.com/free-ip-lookup-proxy-vpn-test/lookup/14.192.214.186
Leaving it open even after the investigation will encourage opposing people to come nitpick every little thing they can possibly find which is easy to do among users who have the same content position. If they have to open a new case they will be more inclined to bring evidence with merit. I don't think it's fair treatment. I'm not Symphony and I shouldn't have to go through all of these aspersions from someone using IP socks. EEpic (talk) 00:09, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
It has not been "left open after the investigation", I have asked for more information, which I routinely do at SPI (I did that twice today, as it happens). Please let this matter drop: if there is no evidence against you, no action will be taken, and if there is evidence, closing this report will not prevent it from being analyzed in the future. Empirically, "If they have to open a new case they will be more inclined to bring evidence with merit" is simply not true. Vanamonde93 (talk) 02:25, 24 December 2024 (UTC)
I see, thanks I appreciate the input. EEpic (talk) 04:11, 24 December 2024 (UTC)

Enforcement on PerspicazHistorian

Hi @Vanamonde93! I have added references to Appa (title), please check it. I always try to find better sources for articles authored by me. I keep learning from experienced editors like you. Thanks a lot !

P.S- I respect your views in the Arbitration/Requests/Enforcement discussion. Please tell me what do I need to convince all the respected admins and clear all your doubts. Also please check the sock attack request I made in my comment in the discussion. PerspicazHistorian (talk) 18:20, 29 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi PerspicazHistorian. If you want to write an article about "Appa" as a title, you need to find sources that discuss "Appa" as a title. If you don't have such sources, you cannot write that article. This is true everywhere on Misplaced Pages, but when we are working on complex and contentious topics like caste or linguistics, you need particularly high quality sources, and they need to very explicitly support content that you are adding. Best, Vanamonde93 (talk) 18:36, 29 December 2024 (UTC)
I do not page troll, just happened upon this conversation. I am a former faculty member at a research university, and retired registerd editor here. And to your reply to @User:PerspicazHistorian, I simply say, "amen", let it be so. With regard, 98.226.86.66 (talk) 20:35, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

Welcome to the 2025 WikiCup!

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2025 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor, we hope the WikiCup will give you a chance to improve your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page.

For the 2025 WikiCup, we've implemented several changes to the scoring system. The highest-ranking contestants will now receive tournament points at the end of each round, and final rankings are decided by the number of tournament points each contestant has. If you're busy and can't sign up in January, don't worry: Signups are now open throughout the year. To make things fairer for latecomers, the lowest-scoring contestants will no longer be eliminated at the end of each round.

The first round will end on 26 February. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), Frostly (talk · contribs · email), Guerillero (talk · contribs · email) and Lee Vilenski (talk · contribs · email). 2025 Update from Women in Green

[REDACTED]

Hello Vanamonde93:

2024 has wrapped up, and what a full year it was for WikiProject Women in Green! Over the past year, we hosted two edit-a-thons, one themed around women's history and another on women around the world. We also managed to achieve most of our 2024 annual goals, nominating 75 articles for GA, reviewing 64 GA nominations, nominating 8 articles for FAC, peer reviewing 3 articles and reviewing 10 FAC nominations. Excellent work, and thank you to everyone involved!

For 2025 we have a new set of goals for nominations and reviews. In particular, we would like to see more articles on our Hot 100 list being improved and nominated for GA this year. If you take a look at the list and see an article you are interested in contributing to, feel free to add it and yourself to our Hot 100 project discussion. You might even find someone interested in collaborating with you!

This year, as with every year, we hope you will join us in helping improve our coverage of women and women's works on this encyclopedia. Every contribution helps. We'll see you around!

AfD closure

Hi. In your closure of WP:Articles for deletion/Thailand at the Big Four beauty pageants, you probably missed that there's another article bundled in the nomination. Bangladesh at major beauty pageants still has an AfD tag; you might want to undo the close or remove the tag and advise the nominator to start a new discussion. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:57, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

I did miss that, probably because the bundling wasn't formatted right. Thanks. I do think it's best to start a new nomination, though, given that the first page has been deleted and the discussion has seen no substantive participation on the merits. Vanamonde93 (talk) 16:12, 6 January 2025 (UTC)

AfD Closure

For the record, while it doesn't make any difference to the AfD the sources were not "theoretical".. The reason I provided "no evidence of such" was that I am not giving up family time over the holidays to drive through literal floods to hook materials out of storage because someone's gaming the AfD process. And now thanks to your prompt action there's no need to do so anyway. Have a good new year. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 09:50, 7 January 2025 (UTC)

I said "hypothetical", and with respect to evidence presented at AfD, that's exactly what they were. If you had provided evidence of print sources, the AfD would have gone differently. The closing admin cannot accept your assertion that sources exist without evidence. If you want to find sources at your leisure, the article history hasn't been deleted; you could recreate the article with evidence of notability. Vanamonde93 (talk) 16:56, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
Why on earth would I or anyone else bother doing any further research for the topic when the AfD system is flawed, cliquey and can be gamed so easily? Which is a shame for me personally as I used to really enjoy putting this stuff together until it became clear just how little constructive, collaborative editing is valued. No point when people can just declare sources unreliable, or not read the sources already cited and just judge them on the title, or just slap words into Google and claim that's Before.
As a BTW, whoever 'merged' the article mucked up the infobox placement. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 10:07, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
...why am I doing this? Good grief, I need to learn this sort of thing is pointless. BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 10:08, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
If you have decided beforehand that the system is not worth participating in, then I agree you shouldn't participate in it. Vanamonde93 (talk) 16:20, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

Group-IB Page Protection

Hi Vanamonde,

You might have seen in the talk page of Group-IB that I declared my conflict of interest as someone associated with the company. I'll also openly state I'm a Wiki rookie - how does page protection work? There are some edits I would like to see on the page and I'm more than happy to make those edit requests, provide suggestions and justify them with reputable evidence and source material. Would that still be possible? Happy to work with the wider community on this. Thanks! JacobP2710 (talk) 01:39, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

Hi JacobP2710, page protection - in this case, extended-confirmed protection - means that only editors who have extended confirmed rights can edit the page. Anyone can make edit requests on the talk page, which, as an employee of the company, you are strongly encouraged to do anyway, per WP:PAID - so protection should not directly affect you. Got it, appreciate the explanation and candour. Thanks! Will be making edit requests in the talk page in due course. JacobP2710 (talk) 01:18, 17 January 2025 (UTC)

Closure

Hi! You recently closed a page for Digital Guardian. I was hoping to revert the page back to it's version prior to the latest approved edit (which re-wrote the entire page). Could you please help me in restoring the page to that previous version? KSC35 (talk) 09:15, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

@KSC35: There was consensus at AfD that the topic wasn't notable at this time: that wasn't dependent on the version. There have also been concerns with promotional editing right through its history. As such I'm not comfortable undeleting this page unless someone can show me coverage in reliable sources that wasn't discussed at AfD, and ideally commits to taking any new draft through the articles for creation process. Best, Vanamonde93 (talk) 16:26, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for clarifying. Yes, I will commit to taking a new draft through the articles for creation process if the previous version is restored & ensure all sourced are credited from reliable sourced. KSC35 (talk) 10:24, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@Vanamonde93 see above, thank you. KSC35 (talk) 10:24, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
That's not quite what I asked: do you have sources to support notability that weren't discussed at AfD? Vanamonde93 (talk) 16:55, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Apologies, I can either look to find alternative sources, or can remove any offending material. KSC35 (talk) 21:17, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Please read the links that I posted above. There was a discussion at articles for deletion which determined that Digital Guardian was not notable based on current evidence. There was also evidence of promotional editing in the article's history. As such I will not provide you with a copy of the deleted version unless and until you can show me new evidence of notability. Vanamonde93 (talk) 21:20, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Thank you. I see in the articles of deletion, an issue is raised regarding the products and services section, which I will remove. There are no specific comments in the articles of deletion regarding which elements require notability, which is why I am suggesting restoring the version prior. That page was already live/approved. I have a copy of the previous version & if anything needs to be updated, I can do so, I just need to know exactly which elements would require further coverage. Thanks! KSC35 (talk) 10:49, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
The AfD reached a consensus that the subject was not notable. Notability is a separate concern from promotional editing, which was the issue with products and services. Based on your comments it's sounding like you may have a conflict of interest with respect to that page. Please read our policies about conflicts of interest and paid editing, and make the necessary disclosures. Based on your lack of understanding of why the page was deleted, I will not be restoring it, and if you restore a prior version it will be subject to immediate deletion. Please find something else to write about. Vanamonde93 (talk) 16:56, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
I didn't make any changes to the page, I am simply trying to have the original page restored. Yes I am affiliated with the page. I'm just asking for support to understand how to resolve this, that's all. Is there anyone that can support me through this process? KSC35 (talk) 21:18, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
