It is one of four official journals published by the American Thoracic Society, along with the '']'' (the "Blue Journal"), '']'' (the "White Journal") and the '']'' (the "Red Journal").

== Contents ==
The journal is focused on publishing peer-reviewed health professions education manuscripts relevant to the fields of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine. This includes those related to the teaching of common clinical topics, the training of healthcare providers and scientists, and educational research.

== History ==
The journal was announced in a newsletter released to members of the American Thoracic Society in February of 2019 <ref>{{cite news |date= February 27, 2019 |title= The ATS to Launch a Fourth Journal: ATS Scholar |url= https://news.thoracic.org/stat/02-27-19.php |work= ATSNews |publisher= ] |accessdate= 2020-3-3}}</ref>. Its first set of accepted articles were published online on February 24th, 2020.
