Fernspäh Kompanies are trained as a passive long range reconnaissance patrol (LRRP) unit. Three company members are selected from the airborne division and are trained at the LRRP school in Weingarten, Germany. Stock weapons from the German Army are used. Due to the Bundeswehr's disapproval of special operations, this unit is kept out of the limelight.
