What's happening here?

I would suggest to remove the following unsourced statements:

'The silence was an obvious reference to the fact that "WMD" had not been found in Iraq, even though their existence was a selling point of the war. The third release Good Luck, Cunt was a cut up collage of news coverage of Iraq. The fourth and most aggressive release, The War Against Terror Go back to bed America, featured samples of President George W. Bush and comedian Bill Hicks.'

Deletion

Kris Weston: i left the orb because i wanted an expanded role more than engineering apparently... WTF!!! my role in the orb was of artist and engineer and producer.... so i dont see how i could have expanded my role at all..i dont recall doing an interview with ID mag either.... --Doktor Who 03:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

The article says that the interview was in i-D, but the citation says The Guardian. Can someone check on that and fix the article or the reference as needed? mjb 22:16, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm well aware of the situation. There are procedures for article deletion and a recent attempt to delete it was not successful. I'm only asking about this one citation because it's one of his points of contention ("i dont recall doing an interview with ID mag"). mjb 00:57, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

• The Guardian article talks about the i-D interview, which is why it is cited. Directly from The Guardian...

In Paterson's words, the Orb began to "self-destruct". Thrash left mysteriously (he later told i-D magazine that "Alex got me in but didn't do his 50 per cent of the work. He couldn't play anything"). But the biggest problem was that Paterson became embroiled in litigation...

• I'm pretty sure the Guardian is pretty reliable, even if they are reprinting a quote. I'm far more inclined to believe that Weston forgot about a 10 year-old interview rather than either ID or The Guardian making it up. Wickethewok 01:56, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the quotation; we could add that to the citation. I agree it's plausible, maybe even likely, that Weston forgot, but I wouldn't assume anything about fact-checking by The Guardian when it's reporting on something published in another source. Would the reporter have checked that Weston actually said some unflattering things about Paterson to i-D, or just that i-D published something that says that Weston did? My money's on the latter; it'd be i-D's fault if they made up the interview, and of course it's in Weston's interest to deny it so why bother ringing him up to confirm? Bogus interviews have been known to happen in music mags, and The Guardian isn't immune to publishing things for shock value. I'm on the fence about whether the quote should stay but I don't have good reason to doubt it. I think if it does remain, the citation and the way the quote is presented should be changed to tread a little more lightly and not say "Weston said X" but rather The Guardian reported that Weston said X to i-D magazine" or some such. —mjb 08:51, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
