Queen Elizabeth II

Please note that I have disputed the neutrality of this article. Jguk reverted my NPOV template, claiming that the NPOV dispute is just a personal campaign of one person. Whig 09:07, 15 May 2005 (UTC)

Milnes

I have no issue with a Category:Milnes. I didn't do that myself simply because (1) I wasn't sure I could just create a catefory and (2) I'm not sure how useful it is given that there may only be a dozen Milnes (at a stretch) that ever make it into Misplaced Pages. But thanks, anyway.

Now to see how you do this fancy editing thing on your talk page...  :-)

Trey Stone

Ja, ik heb de pagina gelezen en heb ook mijn steun gegeven aan de petitie omtrent deze gebruiker. Meer kan ik voorlopig niet doen ... Veel succes en good luck! Meursault2004 21:49, 15 May 2005 (UTC)

Fujimori

And it's bad to be called a antifujimorista, why? Just wondering. - Big Brother is Watching

Castro

Well I figured I could certify the Kapil Rfc as I was the victim of his ire. As he got me got me muddled up with someone else's edits I figure he is just lashing out without even checking things out, and as it could have been any user a new user might have left[REDACTED] for ever etc. Anyway you could also put this as my attempt to mediate with him Sunday night. Que le vaya bien, SqueakBox 01:19, May 17, 2005 (UTC)

Kapil

I'm not fond of RfCs and the like but of course I think Kapil needs to mend his ways. I think you could justifiably have gone straight to arbitration, because let's face it, he's not going to respond to an RfC. These guys don't. Grace Note 11:28, 17 May 2005 (UTC)

sigh It's practically pointless anyway. He'll just come back as a new user. Eventually, editors with good will tire out and they win, simply because they are determined to revert and revert until they have their way.Grace Note 00:18, 18 May 2005 (UTC)

Grace Note

How about telling Grace Note to try and revert intelligently and lay off the Fidel Castro smoking a Cohiba picture, or at least to give a good reason for placing it back on? Gonna watch me closely now, are you? Ooooooh the communist bravado. Have it your way, at least I'm trying to get a NPOV on Fidel Castro while Grace Note keeps acting like a 6-year old. And yes, if I get banned for whatever reason I'll probably just keep reverting it until it's more neutral, it's absolutely preposterous that the positive things muttered about Castro can just remain there (as encyclopaedic content) without so much as a good (neutral) source. Grace Note hasn't provided a source yet, yet (s)he continues reverting. Sigh, on to continue the revert war with Grace Note, I'm guessing, until a source is provided. Kapil 01:02, 19 May 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the spam tips. There is a lot I don't know about Misplaced Pages. I'm just a casual[REDACTED] contributor but I can't resist to click at least once a day on 'my watchlist' :-) Chardon

Marxism, marxism and marxian thought

Marxism is an ideology often taken to worship Karl Marx the individual. marxism is an ideology which recognises Marx's importance, but isn't interested in leader worship. marxian thought is even more so. Fifelfoo 03:00, 20 May 2005 (UTC)

Terrorist categories again

Nominate them for deletion. Obviously, I'll vote to delete them. Remind me when this comes up, because I'm only minimally on Misplaced Pages the next few weeks. (p.s.: love the Callas photo) -- Jmabel | Talk 18:12, May 20, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry

I have this habit of being too cryptic. I also talk to myself a lot. I think the two things are connected. What I meant by the blank space was that I didn't feel I needed to comment on KT's rant. He'd proved my point. I do feel sorry for the guy, but not enough to think he should be allowed to continue. I've said enough, and am withdrawing from the discussion, but I will be interested to see what happens in the end. --Mothperson 01:31, 21 May 2005 (UTC)

Reactie

Lima districts

Hi Viajero. Thanks, I like to follow that general rule, too. However, I renamed the district articles for the sake of uniformity. In many provinces outside of the Lima Province, districts are not the smallest subdivision, there are even smaller political subdivisions called ciudades, caceríos or anexos, which often have the same name as the districts they belong to. For example, the city of Huancayo does not cover all of Huancayo district, therefore it is necessary to create different articles; in this case the most logical solution would be naming the city's article as "Huancayo" and the district's article as "Huancayo District".

Since in Spanish the district's full names are Distrito de ... and since it would be confusing to have district articles with unstandardized names ("Villa el Salvador" & "Huancayo District", both being articles about districts) I decided to standardize the names of the ca. 1820 districts in Peru and make all of them end with the word District. Greetings, --Tuomas 00:23, May 23, 2005 (UTC)

As I said before, the districts' official names in Spanish (Distrito de Villa El Salvador) should also be taken into consideration. If all articles were to have the simplest name possible, then why do many articles about US counties (for example, Wakulla County, Florida) have such "long" names? Probably because their official full name is x County (article Wakulla is empty). The same thing happens here in Peru with districts. By the way, users in the Spanish-language[REDACTED] have taken the same step and renamed all articles to Distrito de x'. I doubt that writing in a forum with just one participant would have much sense. That's what your talk page is for. --Tuomas 17:21, May 23, 2005 (UTC)
Okay, I messed up. You win, changes reverted. --Tuomas 02:41, May 26, 2005 (UTC)

Standard operas

Your propsal is fine with me.

I added the missing operas to the list. I also moved 4 or so from the standard to the history section. I will let it sit a day or two. Then maybe do some pruning of operas that as not famous and not often performed -DrG 06:01, 2005 May 23 (UTC)

Deleting subcats

I think the key is nominating multiple categories simultaneously (as I've done for the terrorist cats). Some of them weren't subcats of cat:terrorism, and it is not always applicable to automatically delete subcats on all occasions. Your idea seems a good one in principle, but I cannot presently think of a good way to word it for adding to deletion policy. Yours, Radiant_* 07:31, May 23, 2005 (UTC)

  • Okay, I see it's on CFD talk now. I'll join the discussion there. Thanks, Radiant_* 09:02, May 24, 2005 (UTC)

Posada Carriles

Hello...I believe, although I'm not 100% certain, that "Carriles" is indeed his mother's family name and not part of a compound name. Hope that bit of information is of use. Juancarlos2004 18:48, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

3rr violation ban was extremely unjust

The user and I were talking on IRC. We were discussing things, there was neither a rever war nor an issue. He did not realise his error. Now the two other users have nothing to do with the discussion, they are mere annoyance. --Cool Cat 21:51, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

Le Nozze di Figaro / The Marriage of Figaro

Although a few months ago I must admit I redirected a few opera articles from their common English names to their original titles, I have now seen the light. So I've proposed moving Le Nozze di Figaro to The Marriage of Figaro. Since a redirect exists there now, it requires an admin to do it and discussion on Talk:Le Nozze di Figaro. If you'd like to comment there, it would be appreciated. Thanks much. --BaronLarf 13:46, May 25, 2005 (UTC)

Fujimori & Alan Garcia

FWIW, I want you to know that I didn't come up with that text about Fujimori wanting to arrest Alan G; it was in the article that Messhermit spun off -- I assume he added it -- and I only did him the courtesy of restoring all of his text to the AF article. As an aside, I find it highly ironical that most people then supported his arrest, since he now appears to be the leading candidate to become the next president of Peru. -- Viajero | Talk 17:47, 26 May 2005 (UTC)

  • I believe that it is almost universal in underdeveloped countries (with a few exceptions) that the outgoing leaders have no support and most citizens would like to see them in jail, because they end up not delivering on their promises (as most politicians). And then, after a few short years and another underperforming leader, old leaders have a shot to come back. Exactly what is happening with Alan Garcia and perhaps even Fujimori (in this coming election or in the next).--AAAAA 02:38, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

Hi

Good to hear from you again. I don't know how much help I can be... I'm just stopping by (not returning as an active, regular contributor) to fix only some of the more egregious problems that I can spot. So whatever influence I had in the past is almost certainly gone... I wish you luck with the case, though I wouldn't expect it. The function of the Arbcom seems to be protecting users like Trey Stone and driving off users who try to strive for higher standards, rejecting the idea of Misplaced Pages as some sort of social club. 172 13:25, 27 May 2005 (UTC)

Take a look at SqueakBox's user contribution history. He's applying for assistance from Sam Spade... I didn't know that Sam Spade had a "detective agency" until now. I saw that and finally realized that Misplaced Pages is hopeless. 172 20:05, 28 May 2005 (UTC)
