Al-Imaam Ibn Qudamah: He is Shaikh-ul Islam Muwaffaq-ud Deen Abu Muhammad Abdullah Ibn Ahmad Ibn Muhammad Ibn Qudamah Ibn Miqdaam Ibn Nasr Al-Maqdisi Al-Hanbali. Wellknown as ibn Qudamah (Arabic أبن قدامة ) was a noted Islamic scholar of the Hanbali madhhab, author of Al-Mughni (the main Hanbali fiqh manual) as well as Tahrim an-Nazar (Censure of Speculative Theology, an attack on Ibn Aqil's rationalist views.) He was born in Jerusalem, and died in Damascus.
Biography
He was born in Nablis - Palestine in Sha'ban 541 AH (1147).
He memorised the Qur'an at an early age, studied its sciences and was known to have a nice hand-writing.
He left with his cousin, Al-Hafidh AbdulGani, for Baghdad in 561 AH and caught up with Shaikh AbdulQadir Jilaani in his final days (i.e. before he passed away). They stayed at his school, learning from him as well as from other scholars and student of knowledge of that time such as Ibn Al-Jawzi, Hibat-ullaah Ibn Al-Hasan Ad-Daqaq, Abi'l Fath Ibn Al-Battee, Abi Zur'ah Ibn Tahir, Yahya Ibn Thabit, Khadeejah An-Nahrawaniyah and others.
He also studied with the following scholars of his time:
Damascus / Syria - Abi Al-Makarim Ibn Hilal Mowsil / Iraq - Abi Al-Fadl at-Toosi Makkah Al-Mukarramah - Al-Mubarak Ibn At-Tabbakh

He was known for his vast knowledge, wisdom and wit and renown as the Scholar of the people of Ash-Shaam of his time.

Death
He died on Saturday, the Day of Eed-ul Fitr in 620 AH. May Allah, subhanahu wata'aala, accepts him in His vast mercy, benefit us from his knowledge and gather us with his likes on the Day of Judgement, Aameen.
