Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya are the brain child of then human resources minister P. V. Narasimha Rao (later he served as Prime Minister of India) to encourage and foster the rural talent in India. These schools are often described as islands of excellence in the ocean of mediocre Indian educational system. Navodaya Vidyalayas offer free education to the students who are selected through an entrance test conducted all over India. Each district has one navodaya. There 509 navodayas all over India.
