Clint was raised an only child to Southern Baptist parents. During all 18 years of his adolescence, he lived with his family “on a dusty gravel road” in an isolated area of Arkansas. Wildly imaginative, the fact that there were no other children with whom to interact in the neighborhood was less of a hindrance than a creative challenge: Catalyst simply made up his own. While it is common for youngsters to have an ‘imaginary friend,’ Clint took it a step beyond—he had “an entire realm” of make-believe characters with whom he interacted, often venturing into the forest and pretending that they were the sole survivors of a lost world. In an interview with Chicago-based journalist Sukie de la Croix, he explains this part of his history as quite likely “why started writing” in the first place.<ref>http://www.clintcatalyst.com/interviews.php?subaction=showcomments&id=1078962196&archive=&start_from=&ucat=6&</ref>

Writing in the ''LA Weekly'', Linda Immediato called Catalyst a "Midwestern ex–meth head who came to L.A. by way of San Francisco, where he was a goth art-club darling — the most photographed model of the underground." In Los Angeles in the 1990s "he became the most sought-after nightclub... guest-list gatekeeper, wooed by seemingly every hip promoter in the city."<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.laweekly.com/la-people-2007/clint-catalyst/16293|title = Clint Catalyst|accessdate = 2008-02-20|author = Linda Immediato|publisher=laweekly.com}}</ref>
==Education==
An astute student, Catalyst excelled academically. His degrees include a Bachelor of Arts (with honors ‘Distinction’) in English <ref>http://www.wga.org/uploadedFiles/members/member_news/mn0906.pdf</ref> from Hendrix College <ref></ref>, as well as a Master of Arts in Writing from the University of San Francisco.<ref></ref>

In March 2008 Catalyst was chosen to appear in a national ] "Fur Is Dead" campaign.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://blog.peta2.com/2008/03/clint_catalyst_fur_is_dead.html|title="Peta2 blogs on Clint Catalyst"|publisher=Peta2}}</ref>.
Shortly after his arrival in San Francisco, Clint's foray into modeling "all started with a book cover"—though the cover of the book was not his own. He was discovered by photographer Phyllis Christopher, <ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.phyllischristopher.com/clint/|title = Phyllis Christopher Photography}}</ref> who had an assignment to shoot the cover of an anthology entitled Sons Of Darkness <ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.valorebooks.com/Search/ISBN/1573440590|title=Sons Of Darkness}}</ref>. From that moment on, his assignments have run the gamut from Goth <ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/peta2flickr/2299034650/|title = SkellAnimal Peta2 Fur Is Dead campaign}}</ref> to custom latex-wear <ref>{{cite web|url=http://stevedietgoedde.com/marquis05.htm|title = Steve Diet Goedde Photography}}</ref>,

contemporary urban gear <ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.tonymech.com|title=Tony Mech}}</ref> to post-punk casual wear
<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.lipstickprophets.com/mens2.html|title= Lipstick Prophets}}</ref><ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.lipstickprophets.com/lpmag.html|title = Lipstick Prophets Magazine}}</ref>, from cravats<ref></ref> to high-end costume jewelry<ref>http://www.clintcatalyst.com/photogallery/displayimage.php?album=1&pos=0</ref> <ref>http://clintcatalyst.buzznet.com/user/journal/1416911/</ref>. He also modeled for the cover of another book, The Best of Alice Joanou. <ref>{{cite web|url=http://stevedietgoedde.com/alicejoanou.htm|title=Book Cover by Steve Diet Goedde}}</ref>

Despite the tear sheets and campaigns accumulated over the years, Catalyst refutes the term 'model' in reference to himself. Explaining that it's "just part of the brand," he prefers being described as a hyper-hypenate. "If seeing my one place causes people to look me up somewhere else," he says, "then it serves its purpose."<ref>{{cite web|url=http://renegadesofstyle.uber.com/clint|title="Renegades Of Style: Clint Catalyst"}}</ref>

* Eager to experiment with different art forms—and particularly drawn to burgeoning radical subcultures—Clint befriended homohop performer ], known for his controversial presence as an "in your face" "homo-revolutionist"<ref>http://en.wikipedia.org/Deadlee</ref> within hip-hop, a genre often associated with homophobia. After Deadlee saw Clint do a spontaneous performance art set at the Parlour Club's infamous Club Touché, the two began tossing around ideas for a future collaboration. While they have performed on stage together numerous times, the end result is the track "Gay Pac" (featuring Clint Catalyst) from the 2006 full-length Assault With A Deadlee Weapon.<ref>http://cdbaby.com/cd/deadlee</ref>

Clint Catalyst (b. April 8, 1971) is an American author, actor, spoken word performer and stylist.

Catalyst has covered music, fashion, LGBT issues, and popular culture for magazines including Los Angeles magazine, LA Weekly, Frontiers, Out, and Swindle.

Early life

Born in Jonesboro, Arkansas Catalyst was raised an only child to Southern Baptist parents. Other than a year in Germany on scholarship, he remained there until he attended Hendrix College, where he started As If magazine and received a Bachelors in English. Upon graduation, Catalyst went to San Francisco, where he earned a Master of Arts in Writing degree from the University of San Francisco. He said he knew he was gay from a young age.

Writing in the LA Weekly, Linda Immediato called Catalyst a "Midwestern ex–meth head who came to L.A. by way of San Francisco, where he was a goth art-club darling — the most photographed model of the underground." In Los Angeles in the 1990s "he became the most sought-after nightclub... guest-list gatekeeper, wooed by seemingly every hip promoter in the city."

In 2000, Catalyst's book Cottonmouth Kisses was released by San Francisco-based publisher Manic D Press, developing a widespread "cult following" according to No-Fi magazine. The book went into its second printing in 2007.

In support of the book, Catalyst toured the U.S. and Canada with friend and author Michelle Tea. During the book tour, they came up with the idea to solicit first-person narratives for an anthology they co-edited entitled Pills, Thrills, Chills and Heartache. The book reached #10 on the Los Angeles Times non-fiction paperback Bestseller list the week after its release on March 14, 2004. The book was also a 2004 Lambda Literary Awards finalist in the fiction anthology category.
