Geraki, did this occur when you pressed Start in the Plugins tab? -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:09, 21 January 2010 (UTC)
- Yep, I'm getting this one as well. Arbitrarily0 12:47, 18 February 2010 (UTC)
I am pretty sure that this related to the timer and the way we save the plugin's stats. I ll try to do some debugging later. -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:43, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
Method to correctly count Kingbotk edits:
- Save text
- Apply plugin changes
- If old text <> new text add 1 to Tagged
- Apply genfixes
-- Magioladitis (talk) 20:16, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
- I believe this is the same error that I pointed out. If thats the case its due to the Plugin getting stuck on comments. Could you provide them an example article or two that generates the error. --Kumioko (talk) 13:32, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- Duplicate with Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Bugs#ArgumentOutOfRangeException_in_AsyncApiEdit.CallEvent. Charles_Edward are you trying to assess articles? -- Magioladitis (talk) 15:02, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- I'm getting it too when trying to assess and cleanup metalworking articles. Wizard191 (talk) 13:39, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
- The problem is in the way we do the ststistics in KingbotK. We are already aware of that. -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:58, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
- Yes I am trying to assess. I can get through, say fifty or more without an error, and then it gets to a patch where its error after error. Then it clears back up and I can assess another fifty or so before it craps out again. I have just been going back and manually assessing all the errored ones right now. I think this is related to other errors posted here. Here's some examples:
- Samuel Henderson (Indianapolis mayor), I can load the page, then click skip or save to get to the talk and it hangs. It never loads the talk page. If I click skip or save a second time, the above error occurs. If I click stop, then restart, or just click start without stopping, I get the above error too. Then upon restarting I get the "pluggin was expecting talk page" error.
- Same with Jim Hill (Oregon politician)
- Eventually you get through the "bad" articles and it will start working again. I don't see on the talk pages of those articles any comments, or things like that. And it is on such a variety of articles and they have no common template except the Indiana project template, which I am assessing for. —Charles Edward 14:09, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Happens when I try to do assessments with {{WikiProject Ontario Roads}}. Half the pages come up with an error saying 'AWB expected a talk page', with only OK to click. That stops the processing. I click start again, and it often skips the item and goes to the next and asks the same thing. Eventually it will go, but then this error will come up and stop the processing again. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ ¢ 12:49, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Did you have KingbotK installed? Or in your AWB directory? -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:14, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Like Krinkle, above, I'm afraid I don't know what was different about this particular save compared to all the others before and after it which worked without any problem. I do remember that it was near the end of a list of about 40-45 pages, but wasn't the last one in the list - I think it was 3 or 4 from the end.
-- DMS (talk) 05:11, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

copied from Schwede's talk page:
- I have activated it subsequent to the suggestion, but I haven't undertaken this particular edit since. Sorry, it appears that I was supposed to reply to the suggestion - I merely posted the feedback as the error message suggested that I do. Schwede66 18:52, 19 May 2010 (UTC)

A version of this error comes up whenever I try to load any plugin. This, like other SecurityExceptions seem to be, is probably caused by being on a network shared H drive. Dragging AWB's folder to the desktop didn't fix it.~ neko-chan :3 (talk) 19:17, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

"Not a huge amount we can do about this as its in the .NET/Windows Code." How many edits have you done, when you got this message? -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:56, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
- The funny thing was that I wasn't actually editing at all, but using the Pre-parse mode to sort through about 50,000 pages before actually editing them. I believe the problem started at about the 20,000's.
- Peteparker (talk) 15:46, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- As I expected. It is a divide by zero bug caused of the huge number of pages processed. There might be a way to avoid it. Thanks, Magioladitis (talk) 15:04, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Reported in Wikipedia_talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Bugs/Archive_10 in the past and Reedy claimed to have fixed that in rev 3971. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:48, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, I know. But this happened in version 4.5, and I'm using the 5.0.3 and it is still there for that site (www.spescoladeteatro.org.br/enciclopedia/). I think the fix was only for the wikia sites. This site I'm attempting to connect is not related to Wikimedia (but it uses MediaWiki) and it is a single language project (it doesn't have interwikis ou subdomains like xx.spescoladeteatro.org.br/enciclopedia/, for instance). I think there's some bug in AWB with that, because I use it in a wiki in my notebook (http://localhost/) and there's no problem with that. This only happens when I try to use it on http://www.spescoladeteatro.org.br/enciclopedia/ . CasteloBranco 12:02, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- We can easily fix it if you install the latest snapshot found in http://toolserver.org/~awb/snapshots/AutoWikiBrowser5031_rev6872.zip and recatch the bug. This will show us in which line we have to add the extra code. -- Magioladitis (talk) 12:04, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

KingbotK needs urgent update to support new priority parameters
Status | New |

Description | KingbotK plugin seems to be removing the work group priority parameter in Template:WPBiography and replacing it with a general priority parameter instead (see ). I summarise a bit here. This is a to-do list. TO DO:
- Support new priority parameters i.e. don't remove them and don't add empty priority parameters is one of the new ones exist
- If priority parameter is missing, keep adding the generic priority parameter
- In the future: If a work-group exists and the corresponding priority parameter is missing, add it
- In the future: If a work-group exists and a generic priority parameter exists, replace it with the one corresponding to the work-group.
- If living parameter is missing, add an empty living field unless class=dab
- If listas parameter is missing, add an empty listas field

This is probably not a bug. There is probably something in the banners that is causing the problem. Can you give an example page it happened on? –xeno 13:38, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah no problem if you pull in virtually any of the articles from the Category:Recipients of the Medal of Honor you get it. A couple specific articles are talk:Gary Evans Foster or Talk:Gary George Wetzel. Please let me know if you need anything else. --Kumioko (talk) 14:27, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
- The bad tag report is from this mess of "B class checklist" items. Not sure why the plugin does not like it, it may be getting confused because of the hidden comments. –xeno 14:44, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
- Oh ok, if its worth mentioning I am going to cleanup all those comments to the shortened version on the milhist banner page, like below. I just haven't gotten that far along yet. Unfortunately most folks don't appreciate the need for the talk page banners so they are a mess.

Summary:
- Don't tag disamb articles as orphan Done rev 5888 too. Rjwilmsi 00:24, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- IF >= 3 incoming links (excluding redirects, only mainspace, not dabs), then article is not an orphan for sure and AWB should remove the tag if found
- Orphans have less than 3 incoming links to themselves or their redirects. These links should not be redirects or dabs.
Current status:
- Tagger will tag as an orphan an article that has less than 3 incoming links to itself or its redirects that there are not redirects. rev 6013
- Tagger will untag an article from being orphan if it has 3 or more incoming links to itself or its redirects that there not redirects. rev 6013
- Tagger can be restricted to linkless pages by an option to the Options menu.
Conclusion:
- Tagging is 100% accurate. If an article is tagged as an orphan, it is an orphan.
- More articles can be orphans. This is the case that some of the incoming links are dab pages.

Stubs must go under categories in all Wikipedias. In German Misplaced Pages is one row down, in other AFAIK is two rows. -- Magioladitis (talk) 15:52, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- Check WP:FOOTER and, hopefully, sv:Misplaced Pages:Disposition. -- Magioladitis (talk) 15:58, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- No, this is not proscribed in sv:Misplaced Pages:Disposition and it is not how our editors generally do it. The stub template is a template and in similarity to other templates it tends to be placed where in the text you want it. Tomas e (talk) 17:06, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, I see. Is there any way to disable the moving of the tags, as the stub tags are generally placed above the cats on the swedish wiki, and sv:Misplaced Pages:Disposition doesn't state anything about stub tags? tetraedycal, tetraedycal 16:07, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
- Hm... Stub moving is part genfixes. Unfortunately, moving categories comes with moving stubs. If you want both disactivated, disactivate general fixes. Nothing else we can do at the moment. Make list display becomes somewhat garbled when scrolling fast
Status | New |
---|---|
Description | When quickly scrolling up and down through a large list in the make list window (by clicking and dragging the slider in the scroll bar), some of the entries overwrite each other in terms of how they are displayed. The entries themselves are fine; however, some of the article titles have the names of the articles that were above them listed on top of them. For example, one of the entries of the list I have open right now is for New York State Route 470. It should read just "New York State Route 470"; however, the displayed text is "New York State Route 470" with the words "New York State Route 446" (the article above it in the list) overlaid on top. – TMF 19:22, 16 November 2009 (UTC) |
To duplicate: | Make a large list (the list I noticed this on was 215 entries long) and scroll up and down using the method described above |
Operating system | Windows 7 |
.NET FW Version | Unknown |
AWB version | 4.9.0.3 rev5636, but this issue existed in the last snapshot I used (I think it was around rev5580 or so) as well. |
Workaround | 1) Ignore the garbled text and use AWB as usual. 2) Clicking on the garbled entry (highlighting it) will correct the displayed text. 3) Scrolling slower (using the arrows and/or by clicking in the scroll bar) doesn't seem to cause this issue. |

Keyboard shortcut stops working
Status | Bug currently being investigated/fixed |
---|---|
Description | The save keyboard shortcut works fine when AWB is first started; to save, you can use "Alt-s", "Ctrl-s", or even just "s". But if you click in the diff area or text box (including scroll bar), then the shortcut stops working until you restart AWB. (Note that "Alt-g" continues working for ignore, although I believe that ignore has been replaced with skip in the next version, so the shortcut will probably be different). If you subsequently click in one of various places such as in the edit box, list box, diff area, or on the Start tab, the save shortcut will then work once immediately thereafter, but then stops working again. This was originally reported on WT:AWB by ZooFari (talk · contribs), but that report was recently archived without any action. The keyboard shortcut feature is a very useful one, providing a comfortable alternative to stressful repeated mouse clicking, so I've brought the issue here. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 01:32, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
- Ctrl+S works only if the program is focused in the edit area. I thought this was the expected behaviour. (Btw, the pther discussion was automatically archived by a bot). -- Magioladitis (talk) 08:56, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
- Having to click in the edit box completely negates the convenience of having a keyboard shortcut (except on those occasions when you happen to have been making a manual edit anyways). The keyboard shortcut to Save should be just as available as the one to Ignore is. Try making a list of pages (with all skip options disabled), and see how easy it is to go through the list by pressing Alt-g to Ignore them. It should be just as convenient to use Alt-s or Ctrl-s to Save. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 09:57, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
- IMHO the keyboard shortcuts should work in the entire main window of AWB. Not sure why they don't at the moment. Rjwilmsi 10:00, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

- I just tested the newest version (SVN 5899) and verified that Alt-k correctly Skips anywhere, just as Alt-g did in previous versions. MANdARAX • XAЯAbИAM 20:43, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think there are two issues with Alt-S:
- When the browser portion of the window has the focus, it prevents the proper function of the Alt- and Cmd- functions. I bet IE grabs the keystrokes before the main thread of AWB sees them.
- When "Start" is not the current tab and the Save button is not visible, the Alt-S shortcut won't work. Windows only honors Alt shortcuts for active controls, and a hidden control is not active.
- It would be very helpful if this could be addressed. Having to click in the edit box before using Alt-S is inconvenient. Using a Cmd- key shortcut for a new "Save article text" menu entry would help with #2. I am not sure how you resolve #1 if my guess about the focus issue is right. — John Cardinal (talk) 22:10, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Saving-problems
Status | Works for me |
---|---|
Description | I use AWB to fix links on pages and on many large pages AWB isn't able to do anything, while the exact link is on the page. If I set Auto save on, then after some tries (which take each many seconds/minutes with message "Processing page") AWB stops (message in the bottom bar is "Stopped"). If I set Auto save off, then after a long time of several seconds/minutes with message "Processing page", AWB has changed the page as I set in AWB and shows it to me as usual with message "Ready to Save", and then I hit the Save-button shortly, but then it says connection failed and goes "restarting in ..." counting down. And a new reload follows which takes again a long time, etc... On many pages this doesn't occur (mostly small pages with relative few templates), but on hundreds of pages it occurs in what appears to be mostly large pages like nl:Roeien op de Olympische Zomerspelen 1984. To me it looks like AWB isn't able to handle large pages anymore. In the past I had only problems with slowlyness with AWB on pages which use nl:Template:Stamboom, but then the saving worked fine. - If you use a nested regex in your search and replace it can take a long time to process. After a certain time WM (several minutes at least - probably set for each wiki) WM will no longer accept the page. Maybe a combination of these factors? Rich Farmbrough, 16:24, 7 June 2010 (UTC).

- AWB loading a page as blank page was an AWB bug that we fixed. I don't think the problem is in loading, rather in saving. However the query about the difference in behaviour between ignore refs on/off stil remains. Rich Farmbrough, 20:54, 12 July 2010 (UTC).

"Links on page" option do not work on Commons template:XXX/lang pages
Status | New |
---|---|
Description | "Links on page" option do not work on Commons template:XXX/lang pages. Commons is a multilingual project and many templates have multiple subpages with versions of the template in various languages. For each such template the index of the language subpages is kept in template:XXX/lang (see Category:Language link templates). Those special lang subpages are often created automatically by {{subst:lle}} and resulting pages do not work with "Links on page" option of list creation provided by AWB. - I think that is intentional each file has a license template or two and each license template has great many language version links. This was causing an explosion of some link tables in the database. Commons:template:lle was designed to fix that (see discussion). --Jarekt (talk) 12:52, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

- It is the sort key of the category that is changed, not the name. It is deliberate. We follow the guidance at WP:SORTKEY: that sort keys should not use diacritics due to Unicode sort ordering. I can't read Danish but the linked Danish page (section Sortering af kategorier) doesn't seem to mention any consideration of this for da-wiki. We can disable the diacritic removal on a per-language basis, but I'd like to be sure that this is what has been discussed and agreed for da-wiki first? Thanks Rjwilmsi 20:21, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Character overruns field in 'Number of levels' dialog
Status | New |

Description | Character overruns field in 'Number of levels' dialog Lightmouse (talk) 13:50, 30 August 2010 (UTC) |
To duplicate: | Select the List comparer. Select source as 'User contribs (user defined number). This produces a dialog with the title: 'Number of Levels'. There is a spinner box field with a label 'Enter number of us'. The last word that appears 'us' is probably 'user' and the subsequent characters are obscured. I suggest that labels don't provide instructions, so 'Enter' could be removed. I further recommend that the label is put above the field so that it can use the field width. Putting labels above fields is a useful design option because labels and fields can be vertically aligned at the left and it almost entirely eliminates the possibility of the label overrunning (or being too far away from) the field. Furthermore, the dialog label 'Number of levels' is about 1 character width too close to the left edge of the dialog. Also, it isn't a number of levels when it is a number of contributions. |

- Yes, "Number of levels" is the recurse box being re-used, I noticed that but it's cosmetic. Changing
- \WikiFunctions\Controls\LevelNumber.Designer.cs(106): this.Text = "Number of Levels";
to
- this.Text = "Number";
will avoid this.
And a quick fix for the other problem
- \WikiFunctions\Controls\LevelNumber.cs(14): label1.Text = "Enter number of user contribs:";
to
- label1.Text = "Number of contribs:";

- Well there's sixteen cases, they dominate .>:>;>, - however if the first punctuation mark is not used as a stop , it should be left. Apart from "." as an abbreviation terminator, any other cases would probably be pathological - for example, "the track was written after Note To Self:." and should likely include italicisation.
