The Dally in the Alley is Detroit's largest annual community festival. Offering live music, visual arts, performance, food and beer, "the Dally" is entirely organized and executed by a team of community volunteers. It takes place in the alleys of the Cass Corridor district (the north end, near Wayne State University) in Midtown Detroit, on the Saturday after Labor Day. Initially a small, anonymous neighborhood music and art fair, the Dally's inaugural year was 1977. It acquired its name in 1982, eventually developing into its current offering—a large-scale festival that draws thousands of visitors annually, in the same community-oriented spirit as the original "Dally". Dally in the Alley's annual promotional efforts include a (usually full-sized, often full-color) poster from a notable local artist each year. See website.
