Paul Lynde (full name Paul Edward Lynde) (June 13, 1926 - January 10, 1982) was an American comedian and actor. He was born in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Lynde was the center square on the Hollywood Squares, played Uncle Arthur in Bewitched and was the befuddled father in Bye Bye Birdie. He provided voices in a variety of animated cartoons, including that of Templeton the Rat in the film Charlotte's Web and Sylvester Sneakly (AKA The Hooded Claw) in the television series The Perils Of Penelope Pitstop.

Lynde was found dead in the swimming pool of his Beverly Hills home. Details of his death were never released, but it was determined that he fell in the pool after a cardiac arrest. The coroner who examined Lynde's body said he had the heart of an 80-year old. This condition was brought on by years of extreme substance abuse.

Lynde was gay but did not publicize the fact.
