Deforestation in India is one in every of the main causes to the environmental degradation that is littered with the agents like farmers, ranches, loggers and plantation corporations. Among the top ten countries in the world in terms of deforestation India has been ranked to 10th position. Where world annual deforestation is estimated as 13.7 million hectares a year. India has considered to be a very vast country after US and China, India is the most populated nation in the World.

History

Deforestation in India started with the establishment of agriculture, but was exacerbated in the nineteenth century during British rule when commercial forestry operations took place in the Indian forests mainly in the western and southern part of India.

Causes

There are several cause of deforestation in India which include the colonization by the Britisher to the expansion of Agriculture, shifting Cultivation, fire Wood Collection, timber Harvesting, extension of Cultivation on Hill Slopes etc.

Effects

The major cause of deforestation in India is the global effect which results to the climate change. This has also effected the lives of wild animals and birds including the bats.
