Linking years
I noticed that you linked all of the years in the article on Zhumabay Shayakhmetov. While there is general agreement that the birth and death years should be linked, there is less agreement about links to other years mentioned in an article. Some editors believe that links to years are generally useful to establish context for the article. Others believe that links to years are rarely useful to the reader and reduce the readability of the text. The general rule should be followed when deciding whether to link or not to link a year. Namely: Misplaced Pages:Only make links that are relevant to the context. There is no general consensus that the habit of linking separate years (namely date indications that only consist of a "year") should be abandoned, although most Wikipedians disfavour that habit currently. Few, if any, Wikipedians support blindly linking all year dates. I would ask that you review the Zhumabay Shayakhmetov article and remove the year links that do not provide sufficient context. --Bejnar22:20, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

The three-month long Summer Assessment Drive, organized by Psychless, was a huge success! It ran from June 1 – September 1, and reduced the backlog of unassessed articles from 113,385 to 56,237. In all, over 100,000 articles were assessed. Over 60 people contributed in some way.
A barnstar has been created for exceptional work on Misplaced Pages biographies and for assisting the project. The Biography Barnstar is listed with the other WikiProject awards and can be awarded easily with a template. See the template page for more details.
The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below)
We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future.

Boguslav, please do not move articles by cut and paste. Such moves destroy the history thus making it impossible for all the contributors to be credited for their work. My own contributions to this article are not of any significance but still especially in this article but such moves are a bad idea. Please read WP:MOVE for more details. I will now restore the article at the original location and a redirect, and we can have the redirect cleaned up from history so that the article can be moved there properly. Och, I think this actually is wrong, sorry. The fact that one town is a twin town of the other does not mean, that each twin town of the first one must be the twin towns of the latter one. I'm sorry, I accidentally created the article Nikolay Diletsky. For some reason I couldn't find your article on him, Mykola Dyletsky. Now, I know this sounds rude, but I suggest moving the content from your article to mine, and making yours a redirect. The spelling "Mykola Dyletsky" only returns 92 hits and is not mentioned in my sources (most importantly New Grove, but also Dolskaya-Ackerly's article on Moscow polyphonic school, etc.), whereas "Nikolay Diletsky" returns more than a thousand hits and is the spelling used in New Grove. I realize that there are too many spelling variants, but in my opinion Misplaced Pages should probably adopt what is, or seems to be, the scholarly norm, i.e. New Grove.

I also once added transfers in and out for Halmstads BK, however it was deleted because of WP:NOT#NEWS. I agree with you that transfers should be showed on wikipedia, but as Stochil, on my talk page, sugested as Manchester United F.C. season 2008-09 not in the articel about the club, adding it and then remove it when it change next season makes it more look like a newsservice instead of a encyclopedia. I do know enough about European music to know that Eurovision is a big deal. If there are enough sources to show the notability of Potap, please recreate the page with them. Motto of the day
Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Misplaced Pages:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Misplaced Pages, the 💕". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.
When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Misplaced Pages and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If we can clear up why we have these searching differences, mabybe we can all agree on the name change. You've uploaded File:Olkom logo.gif, and indicated that it's used under Misplaced Pages's rules for non-free images. However, it's not presently used in any articles. Misplaced Pages policy requires that non-free images be either used or deleted, so if this image isn't used in an article in the next week, it will be deleted.

Hi, this is Ehsan. I'm about to finish editing/translation of the choir article from en: wikipedia for fa: wikipedia, but I'm still a little bit dubious about some parts. I checked the contributors and found you among them. Here is that question:
Although many contemporary churches have replaced the choir with singers, some churches have choirs which are backing vocalists in contrary to front line singers, which are in the Alto, Soprano and Tenor range for both Males and Females.
Does it mean: except for "Solo" singers, there's a choir also? Are front line singers the "solos"? After the phrase "in contrary...", I don't get it completely. Would you help me on this please?

Mr. Hall does not meet the notability requirements of WP:MUSICBIO outside the band. A release of one album, that went nowhere, does not meet the requirements. Looking at your other contributions, Todd Smith does not meet it either. Please review the requirements... no mention of either singer before the band. didn't chart, didn't make a gold record, didn't release two or more albums on a major label, etc, etc.
Never use an Amazon link. Amazon is unreliable and is considered self-promotion.

As for the article, I find all of your objections to be quite irrelevent.
Please show me the[REDACTED] policy that says that Amazon is considered self-promotion. If you took a look, you'd see the album is being sold by Curb Records, a pretty big record company. You don't really think that Allan Hall, a singer signed by Curb Records, produced that record in his garage and put it for sale on Amazon? Also, if Amazon is commonly not accepted by the[REDACTED] community, why is it cited in some of these featured articles: Love. Angel. Music. Baby., Barton Fink, Branded to Kill, Fantasy Black Channel, Faryl, Ghosts I–IV, Illinois (album), In Rainbows, etc, etc. They cleary had no problems citing amazon as a reliable source, and even promoted them to featured on numerous occasions. Where were you for those FA reviews?

Hall is a composer and did numerous records, but WITH THE BAND. Read all of WP:MUSICBIO, especially at the end where it says, "Note that members of notable bands are redirected to the band's article, not given individual articles, unless they have demonstrated individual notability for activity independent of the band" You have shown NOTHING that says he was important outside of the band. Where is the proof?
Type "Amazon reliable source" in the search box. You will get a tonne of articles where people say it is unreliable. Amazon gets their information form other parties, including the people doing the selling, and does no fact checking. Adding a Amazon link is promotional because you are adding where to buy the album. Misplaced Pages is not about where to buy things.
Hahahaha. Ok. I see where your confusion is coming from. That note at the bottom says that people are "not given individual articles, unless they have demonstrated individual notability...", meaning that a band member does not get an article an unless he has shown that he's notable. Now, the first sentence states that "musician or ensemble... may be notable if it meets at least one of the following criteria". This means that if the person meets at least one of the 12 listed criteria, then that person is considered notable, and therefore, the Note at the end, wouldn't apply.
My claim is that Allan Hall meets criterion number 1 on the list, and is therefore notable. In order for you to assert that I have shown you NOTHING, you must first disprove MY arguments given above. You still have not shown me why Amazon is not a reliable source. I did the search you recommended, and got this: . That shows me absolutely nothing as to why amazon is not notable as a source, and specifically the link that I posted for his album. Also, you have nothing to say about the fact that many featured articles use Amazon as reliable sources.
Now, he fits criterion number 1 as to the links I gave above, and many more I could still find.

There are two reliable sources given above... the other link is to a wikipage about a magazine. First source is a local news story. It is mostly an interview and talks mostly about the album. Typically, this wouldn't count towards GNG. The second does add information as it would help out filling bio details. However, it mostly talks about his "new" album that was released in 2004, in which the album went nowhere. So, there are two sources that are mostly about a no nothing album and nothing else. Almost any musician that had one album released would have the same refs and wouldn't get an article. There needs to be more independent, reliable sources about his work outside the band. Everything I've found deals with the band, but I'm not an expert in music, especially Christian music.
I wouldn't consider Dove Awards completely meaningless as stated above. However, I'm only aware of Dove Awards given to Hall as a member of the Band.
There are two other band members with articles. Melodie Crittenden left the group and has done quite a bit outside the band. The other is Todd Smith (singer). Smith appears to be in the same boat as Hall and looks very iffy. However, I haven't looked at him more closely... Civility I was asked to comment by Boguslav. The tone of this discussion is unacceptable. Bgwhite, you've made claims which are demonstrably untrue (leaving edit summaries is not a policy) and rude (making ultimatums about deletion or redirecting.) The claim that Dove Awards are "meaningless" ignores the fact that they are important within the world of Contemporary Christian Music. Publications like Down Beat have much smaller circulations than Rolling Stone, but the audience for jazz is more narrow than rock and pop: the merits of a particular source are weighed in terms of their importance to that topic. Amazon is a completely legitimate source for information concerning Amazon's own ratings, but it is not appropriate for (e.g.) reproducing content from Allmusic--in those cases, refer to the original sources. It's clear that at the very least, this should be a redirect, but it is more important that editors act in a civil and respectful way. Suggestion I recommend userfying the potential content in a sandbox and then import it to the main article namespace when you can establish notability with four or more sources, including his production and songwriting credits. While I don't think in its current state this page would stay up long (even though it does meet the criteria), if it were improved even slightly it would be able to stand. This figure is undoubtedly minor even in the Christian scene, but has a number of Dove Awards and the like. Userfying so that it can be improved isn't a bad idea, needless to say. I am well aware that Allan Hall is not nearly as big as, say Michael W. Smith or Amy Grant, but if[REDACTED] were reserved for only articles about the Michael Jackson's and Elvis Presley's, we'd never adequately cover any topic. I think editors are also downplaying the Christian music industry because they do not realize how churches work. For example, 3,000 people is considered a very good turn out for a political rally, but hundreds, if not thousands, of large churches across the country gather more than that every Sunday morning. Besides being a member of Selah, Allan Hall is also a producer, songwriter, arranger, engineer, and instrumentalist for projects that have nothing to do with Selah. --BoguSlav18:00, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

But without secondary sources (and this does not bode well) all you can produce in an article is a list of credits, and that strikes me as unencyclopedic in many ways. Clearly, this list of credits is not all that I have come up with (refer to other links given above). But I don't see why a list of credits is not a valid source of information. Unless you are suggesting that Allmusic.com is not a reliable source, I think that my link is perfectly valid. It demonstrates him as not only a singer and a musician in albums that have won the Dove Awards, but also as one of the main producers of those albums, which establishes his notablity completely separate of WP:BAND. The link also shows him to be an executive producer of another album in which he did not sing: the album by Monika Herzig, a notable artist in her own right.
I'm not surprised that you can't find much information about him online, as mainstream media does not typically cover Christian music, leaving it up to a few magazines (such as CCM Magazine and christianmusicmonthly), Christian radio stations, and church's websites. As for the link you just provided showing archived news articles about him,[REDACTED] policy typically considers media coverage to "bode well" as a reliable source, so I think if relevant material is found the link you provided, there would be nothing wrong in using it either.--BoguSlav19:09, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

I got in contact with Jiulliard School and asked for Mrs. Juliana Osinchuk's doctoral thesis about Kosenko's life and work, which interests me badly for I'm now researching his compositions. Please, see my sandbox ! There's also a book in the National Library here in Prague, which I intend to copy, though it seems to be in Ukrainian. As for adding more info to the article, I think we could save this for FA status. About Chris' advice, I think he's right. We'll have to do it sooner or later. It's just trimming redundancies !

Oh boy, a number of issues here. Firstly, libel/LIBEL has nothing to do with it. As BLP says - in fact you have quoted it back at me - any unreferenced material can be challenged and removed. That is what I have done, and you should never have re-added it. I don't know if/why people have made the stats up, but with no sources presented to enable me to verify, I have erred on the side of caution and removed it. Secondly, you state that I am "not willing to have a reasonable objective discussion" and you mention my "refusal to discuss" - I'm pretty sure I have been discussing this with you for the past few days, so no idea where you got that idea from. Thirdly, I have not threatened to block you. I have stated that you might be blocked if you continue to edit disruptively. Fourthly, by all means raise this at a noticeboard - I have already raised it at WP:BLPN - but if you do so, and continue with your false accusations of bullying/abusing power, then you might want to read WP:BOOMERANG before you do.
You do know that you could have avoided all this by introducing a reliable source, don't you? I've never stated my opinion was the correct one, or more important, or whatever. As for assists, WP:CONSENSUS is WP:NOTAVOTE; you say there was no consensus, I disagree, but with either of those two outcomes the results are the same - the status quo remains the same and the MOS remains unchanged. Don't leave personal insults like you did at my talk page. What you did was highly insulting. You clearly don't have a clue on what was going on. You clearly haven't read ALL the talk pages. You clearly didn't read them reporting me to ANI. You clearly didn't see them calling me a racist. You clearly didn't see them saying I wrote insults about them on the article's talk page... I've never edited on the article's talk page. You didn't see me "insulting" them because I wrote, "Your list that you create has accessibility issues for the blind."... They said I was calling them "blind". You didn't see them insulting others. Not to mention all the other "nice" things they said. This was all before my second message. They are NOT here to build an encyclopedia. I have never been so insulted on Misplaced Pages. Hi, Bgwhite. Way to WP:AGF. Please WP:Stay cool. Based on your reaction, you have clearly not understood what I have said. As I mentioned, the user WAS RIGHTFULLY blocked because of the multiple violations (such as personal attacks) that they did, but it seems to me that these were the result of an escalation of the conflict, with a bunch of "in the heat of the moment" kind of situations. I concluded that the user was originally WP:HERE based on , among other edits, which looked like genuine attempts to improve the WP:Content of Misplaced Pages.
The only reason I actually WROTE on your talk page was because of this "If I have erred, don't hesitate to tell me, but being rude will get you nowhere." You clearly don't mean this if this is your reaction. I think you have erred in your initial approach to a new user (who we both agree is in the wrong), which should be from an EDUCATIONAL rather than COMMANDING attitude. As for this, "What you did was highly insulting", "Never talk to me again", please keep your temper. I am not associated with the user in any way, but I could understand how a user could get frustrated and call you names after you lash out at them as you did to me.
I'm sorry that this insulted you. Perhaps you are right. I did not read ALL of the discussions. I am acquainted with the discussion fairly well, though I must admit I hadn't seen the WP:ANI. Perhaps I should have also used softer language (i.e. "completely unacceptable"). However, I am NOT OK with your reaction or the tone of your discussion. I can understand that the conflict with the user is still fresh, but don't transfer that anger on me. I tried to make it perfectly clear that this is not a WP:PERSONAL attack. However, it appears that I received a personal attack in return. Please stay WP:Civil. Particularly, Try not to get too intense. Passion can be misread as aggression, so take great care to avoid the appearance of being heavy-handed or bossy.

A second person comes in, doesn't know what has happened and calls you out for offending the person that said you are a racist, you too would be insulted. BTW, I was indirectly taken to ANI again by the same idiot. What he wrote was so bad, another admin deleted it from my talk page.
As you didn't read the messages before you leveled your insults, lets recap what the idiot found that I did to "offend" him.

After he left his ~8 messages in a span of two hours, he was offended because I didn't write back. Never mind it was 4:00am in the morning and I was sleeping. "If there won't be a response I'll consider this a drive-by. Or article jacking." and "Again you chose to make the edits without responding. And I see that you get into warring positions outside of any involvement you have with articles. This my be done for blocking editors from articles you don't prefer. I am making a request for mediation before you entrap. His mediation was ANI.
On removing the images, which I said, The very end section currently serves no purpose. The images serve no purpose. See WP:GALLERY for when to use a gallery. As it currently stands, there shouldn't be a gallery in the article and only inline images.. He was offended by this, "Now I recall being confused as to why a couple of days ago the bottom 1/4 of the page had been deleted. I put a fix because I thought I had made a mistake in editing. Yet, you take it as a personal matter knowing you're making these type of changes undercover which is bad form."
What was the reason he took me to ANI, Comments:Only has discussions on his personal page. But with me he does not answer period. He doesn't make any reference to changes he makes. These things just disappear. Or the formatting is deleted. And this is a major restructuring. I thought I was making mistakes in editing. All of a sudden I'm attacked verbally early this morning about everything. He does this with others to get them blocked. I'm thinking it has to do with subject matter he doesn't like. In addition now I recall that the first time I was in TALK on the article he came along and attacked me verbally when I suggested the infobox, but has since deleted that entry. I've never edited on the article's talk page.
Taken to ANI twice, over 10 admins have seen what has gone including other editors and only YOU and the idiot has taken offense to what I wrote. You say AGF and you didn't assume it yourself. Sorry to step on your toes. Upon further analysis, the guy IS an idiot and a liar. There is no disagreement on this point, and as I have said (twice), this guy deserved to be blocked. However, he was definitely lost on quite a few wiki policies. My first approach would have been reverting, then placing an educational notice on his talk page about WP:MOS and WP:OWN. After this, all of my actions would have probably matched yours. IMO, it comes off as patronizing for any user if another user shows up and reverts your work and then tells you what you need to do (especially a newbie). When I was new, I was ready to argue my point, but I needed the links to the policy pages to convince me what was the correct way to do things on Misplaced Pages. Users on Misplaced Pages come here with all sorts of personalities. The initial impression of a user is what often determines the tone of the rest of the conversation, regardless of your intentions. That's why I, and wiki guidelines, suggest that one should initially address a user with an educational approach, citing policy, rather than a commanding approach.
You don't have to accept my perspective. You had an invitation on your talk page and I took it, fully not expecting you to continue the argument (with that user) on me. I assumed good faith from the beginning, telling you that I don't take the user's side and I had a suggestion for dealing with these situations. Then I explained my reasoning, qualifying myself along the way. Imagine if I responded to you in the same spirit that you responded to me. These two quotes from WP:Civil come to mind "Even if you're offended, be as calm and reasonable as possible in your response. Until there is clear evidence to the contrary, assume that the offense was unintended." and "Avoid editing while you're in a bad mood". I stand corrected on not knowing the situation as well as you do. I've stated multiple times that I wasn't here to offend, but you have chosen to completely ignore this. I had a simple suggestion.
