I have been a frequent contributor to Misplaced Pages since August of 2002. Unlike most users, who establish a single account and use it continuously, my preference is to hold a series of personas over time. I've been the author of original articles numbering in the low hundreds, and contributed to articles numbering in the high thousands. I've had admin accounts, hundreds of "anonymous" IP addresses, and more user accounts than I could ever tally.
Although some have deduced my more obvious prior incarnations, I've always chosen to be silent about my serial personas. Who knows, it is likely some day soon I will choose to abandon this account and move on to another incarnation. But today, for once, I am acknowledging my history here.
Having been a part of Misplaced Pages all these years, and perhaps with the unique perspective of experiencing it multiple times as an admin, as a "anonymous" IP, as a newbie, and as a welcomed member of the community, I've seen it change in countless ways. I don't know if on the whole these changes are for the better.

Que Será, Será, but this user may be randomly blocked indefinitely from editing Misplaced Pages at any time by any administrator. |
Who:
I fear for Misplaced Pages. Particularly, I fear for the culture of Misplaced Pages. This once was a very welcoming community, where be bold and assume good faith and NPOV served us well. Newcomers, no matter how difficult, were welcomed into the fold. Most of us intuitively understood what we were doing.
Today Misplaced Pages feels like another world altogether. Vested interests appear everywhere, self-appointed watchdogs hover over articles, and punishment is meted out by the powerful with neither checks nor balances.
I know there is no turning back the clock, but I miss those days. Larry, Uncle Ed, Brion, Tarquin, Mav, Netesq, LDC, Tokerboy, Cunc, and even poor Lir, I’d like to say – it was a pleasure back then.

A Gift:
I am overjoyed to learn of your ostensible return. When I first arrived, you were only recently gone. Perhaps it is you. In behalf of all who missed you, here is a portable shrine for all sojourners among the sentient beings. --Ancheta Wis
