Club Penguin is a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game for children developed by New Horizon Interactive. Using cartoon penguin avatars, players can converse, play minigames, and participate in other activities with one another in a snow-covered virtual world. Club Penguin was first made available to the public in October 2005, and has since expanded into a large online community.
Club Penguin shares similarities with other popular online environments like Habbo Hotel, Whyville, and RuneScape. Club Penguin is primarily designed for children age eight to fourteen, and has been qualified for the Better Business Bureau - Kid’s Privacy Seal of Approval.
Though the game can be played for free, many of the features are not available unless a subscription is purchased.
Secret Agents
Secret Agent is a status that is available to all players. These agents are encouraged to inform players of upcoming events and guide new members around the game. They are also supposed to keep Club Penguin Safe and report everyone who is being mean or using offensive language. They get a spy phone, get access to the HQ (Head Quarters), and get secret missions. There is also a secret entrance to the HQ in the Sports Shop (the curtains). So far, there is one secret mission in which you have to find Aunt Arctic's missing puffles.
Servers
There are currently 54 total servers. 47 being regular servers and 7 being ultimate safe chat servers. Ultimate Safe Chat is a type of chat where users have a list of premade messages to say. Standard Chat is where the user can type out messages.
Membership
There is a membership in Club Penguin where you get a lot of benefits. You can buy more puffles, more furniture for you and your puffles, buy more clothes, and other things. You can either pay for a month, 6 months, or 1 year.
New Events
The lighthouse had recently opened. There was a party in which the free item was a sailor hat. In the Beacon (top story of the lighthouse), there is a telescope. Click on it and you will see a ship that is starting to get closer. Also, one big, major event in Club Penguin was Puffle Walking. Click on your puffle and click on the leash to walk it. If you're walking your puffle and you start dancing, your puffle will dance along too. Since October is coming, it is nearing to Halloween. There will be a Halloween arty and there will be Halloween Clothes. There will also be furniture for your igloo to turn it into a "Haunted Mansion". October is also the month in which Club Penguin was made so there might be a party of some sort.
Security & Hacking
With most online games cheaters and hackers exist. Hackers of Club Penguin utilize flash decompilers to gain access to otherwise hidden or secret material or other leftovers in the game's code. Such use is forbidden in Club Penguin's Terms of Service and users who are caught hacking or illegally modifying their accounts are suspended on the spot. The only "approved" creation from decompilation was an unofficial soundtrack created by various users of Miniclip .
