Weeks at number 1 notation

The Misplaced Pages:Record charts format guidelines allow exceptions to the guidelines as follows:

“Editors should follow it, except where common sense and the occasional exception will improve an article.”

It should also be noted that Misplaced Pages:Record charts format guidelines are guidelines and not policies. Guidelines are advisory in nature where Policies are mandatory:

“Policies are considered a standard that all editors should follow, whereas guidelines are more advisory in nature. Both need to be approached with common sense: adhere to the spirit rather than the letter of the rules, and be prepared to ignore the rules on the rare occasions when they conflict with the goal of improving the encyclopedia.”

“Unlike policies, guidelines are usually more flexible and more likely to have exceptions and could be changed and improved more easily.” (MHS1976 (talk) 23:56, 3 November 2008 (UTC))

"Something"

Hi, thanks for "correcting" this, however, if your source is a Joel Whitburn publication, like "Top Pop Singles", as good as it is, then this is incorrect, as this song was a number-one double A-side hit for The Beatles in the late 1960s as per Billboard itself. Though his books clearly show it reaching #3 for 2 weeks total, this is not actually so. Even if we were to change this to that position, we'd have to get consensus first, as was done for the current showing. Best, --Discographer (talk) 11:13, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Personally, I think "Something" (like "Here Comes the Sun") is a way better song than "Come Together"; and even based on the arguments we make, we'd have to get consensus first on that "Something" was a #3 hit rather than a chart-topper. From what I've gathered, and even as you said, Billboard had changed their chart rules while "Something" was either en route to or was #1. I've even heard that it supposingly should have been the other way around. We had come to this (concensus) decesion based on all the other B-sides which topped the chart with their respective A-sides (check The Beatles discography history). I even think "For You Blue" should not be listed, but that's how it is. In Elvis news, which song is really a bigger hit: "Hound Dog" or "Don't Be Cruel"? You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Misplaced Pages (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Misplaced Pages page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:02, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
