Updates to article on Jenny Bryan

I saw your blog post and made a few edits to the draft for Jenny Bryan to document her notability in more detail. Now it's at least as substantial as the accepted articles on Donna Brogan and Mine Çetinkaya-Rundel, so it should have a better chance of being accepted into the main namespace. Let's see what the reviewers think! Comtebenoit (talk) 15:17, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Thank you, Comtebenoit! I don't know enough Wiki-etiquette to know whether I should thank you here or on your talk page, but I do appreciate it. AmeliaMN (talk) 19:51, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

No worries! I'm happy to help. Comtebenoit (talk) 00:48, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

Do you think it is worth to resubmit the draft now, or do you have other plans? It would be nice to have it in the main namespace before the unconf. Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Kvng was: This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability. Misplaced Pages requires significant coverage (not just mere mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject—see the guidelines for academics, the golden rule and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. Please improve the submission's referencing (see Misplaced Pages:Referencing for beginners and Help:Introduction to referencing/1), so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. If additional reliable sources cannot be found for the subject, then it may not be suitable for Misplaced Pages at this time. The comment the reviewer left was: We need to see WP:SECONDARY coverage about the subject, not by the subject. Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Primefac was: This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability. Misplaced Pages requires significant coverage (not just mere mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject—see the guidelines on the notability of people, the golden rule and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. If additional reliable sources cannot be found for the subject, then it may not be suitable for Misplaced Pages at this time. The comment the reviewer left was: There is very little in the way about Rees herself; most of it is about Periscopic and/or her related projects. The other sources tend towards the realm of being PRIMARY, which are both extremely discouraged and also useless for demonstrating notability. Please add additional independent reliable sources that discuss the subject in detail. Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved. Primefac (talk) 18:03, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

If additional reliable sources cannot be found for the subject, then it may not be suitable for Misplaced Pages at this time. The comment the reviewer left was: There are a couple of decent sources used for verification purposes (i.e. confirming a fact and little else), but all of the "in-depth" sources are PRIMARY (interviews, mostly), which are strongly discouraged. Her own writings are essentially useless both for verification and for notability (though obviously useful if you're verifying that she wrote about XYZ). Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Lonehexagon was: This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability. Misplaced Pages requires significant coverage (not just mere mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject—see the guidelines on the notability of people, the golden rule and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue. The comment the reviewer left was: Hello, thanks for your submission. Unfortunately, I have to decline the article for now. The main problem with this article is that notability hasn't been established. To demonstrate notability, the article must show the subject has "received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." More information about notability requirements here: https://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Notability

I clicked and read through every source, and I wasn't able to find sources that pass the notability requirements.

Significant coverage: Many of the sources did not mention the subject at all and a few only had passing mentions of her. Those articles do not contribute to notability. What we're trying to establish here is that people are interested enough in the subject to actually cover her in some detail.

Independent sources: Many of the sources were articles at the New York Times. Unfortunately, those cannot be used to indicate notability since they are not independent of the subject (she works for the New York Times). I also saw a profile page at NYU, which doesn't count as an independent source since she is faculty there.

Reliable sources: I saw there were a few press releases, sponsored announcements, and blog posts being used as sources. Unfortunately, those cannot be used to establish notability because the reliability and independence of that type of information is not guaranteed.

The closest example to a good source is this one: https://rss.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1740-9713.2012.00605.x The article is about the subject by an independent source, and shows that someone took interest in her. However, much of the information is from what she said during an interview, which is not considered the most reliable source of information. Since it is a relatively weak source, this article still needs more sources and stronger sources before it is ready to be published. Much of the information also needs to be verified. I would suggest starting by removing all sources that don't mention the subject. They cause confusion when trying to read through the citations to validate the information in the article.

If you have any questions, or would like to discuss this further, please don't hesitate to write on my Talk page :) Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer.
