The Barai are a Hindu caste found in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh India.In general they belong to tamoli group which had Betel-leaf related or paan-shop as traditional occupation (पान सुपारी व्यवसाय).They can also have chourasia, chaurasiya,modi,mandal etc as surnames. The people of this community mainly use "Chaurasia" as surname (or 'Title').
