I'm going until the end

Hi, just letting you know that I put hours of work into styling the text into something readable, while all you did were a couple of clicks to return it to a version of "encyclopedia" suitable for robots, not human beings. If you did find issues with original sourcing or source hijacking (as you state), you could've a) corrected them yourself and b) notified me prior to reverting. And this is just a piece of a problem most WP editors have when they disregard completely editor etiquette and find it appropriate by behaving like you just did (moreover, some even state that "it's not out job to correct your mistakes" - talk about 'productive' behavior!). Please either prove to me that this is constructive behavior (in a way I fail to see) or report me right away because I am going to edit war with you. Regards, --Whydoesitfeelsogood (talk) 16:12, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

@Whydoesitfeelsogood: You do not cite sources. You add information that you think improves the encyclopedia but isn't even in good English, let alone well-styled. Source hijacking is when you insert information not in sources that appears attributed to those sources. The only way to fix that is to remove it. I do not know which sources you are reading. You need to add them to Misplaced Pages. Please prove to me how reverting an edit that includes unsourced information that appears sourced (and, therefore, if left, buried in edit history, would need detailed combing to identify as unsourced), and then leaving a talkpage message, is *not* constructive behavior. I will report you if you continue, believe me, because sourcing is important, something you appear unable to understand. Kingsif (talk) 16:16, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
@Whydoesitfeelsogood: Thank you. You have convinced me to block you for editwarring, WP:OR, and making unsourced edits. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 16:28, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you

Just to break the negativity regarding the article on that sad story you brought to my attention:

Venezuela at the Olympics

Hello!! Another IP added back the medals in 1992 in the page. I think a rollback would be necessary. I requested Temporary semi-protection in the page. Thank you!! Luks25 (talk) 14:50, 10 August 2021 (UTC)

Paula Craig

Thanks for the note Kingsif. Not sure if the hook works without the picture as that was the clue that she was paraplegic. Without that it is "just another" channel swimmer. I guess we could add "paraplegic" to the hook, but I believe we cannot just use it as an adjective as she is not a disabled person but a person with a disability. I don't have an image of her swimming as she is not known for that (until the 16th) and its hard to get images anyway (as you may know). There is a cropped headshot of her in commons if you want to use that. I'm talking at Wikimania on the 15th and I will be mentioning Women in Red's contributions to DYK which was part of the early history of the project. Do say if you would like more help. Victuallers (talk) 07:24, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

@Victuallers: I'll swap it out for the bike one, thanks for the explanation. I'm planning on attending Wikimania, though the page isn't quite clear on how it'll be delivered, so if you want to flag that talk up to me, I'd love to hear. Kingsif (talk) 13:52, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for your excellent work in promoting hooks at DYK. When I became an admin last year, I was determined that DYK should never grind to a halt because of a failure of prep sets being moved into the queue. Well, that hasn't happened, but sometimes prep set building is a bit spasmodic, so I have found it necessary to lend a hand there from time to time. In this respect, Yoninah is sorely missed because she acted as a sort of unofficial coordinator, maintaining standards, filling sets and moving things along. Still, we struggle along without her, and things will become easier when we return to one set of hooks a day. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:48, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

@Cwmhiraeth: - Yoninah was a great guiding hand who helped with hookiness of my noms and those I was reviewing. To be able to fit that into everything else we saw her do was a lot of dedication to quality with very little recognition. That said, if you're around to move the preps to queues, I'll be around to help the preps get filled :) Small efforts to get readers engaged Kingsif (talk) 09:38, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

Sockpuppet query

Hello, Kingsif,

I belatedly saw your message on User talk:Gazeteci Sabah 1453 about writing an article about Ali Al Suleiman. Aside from Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Ali Al Suleiman (journalist), you will find probably a dozen pages with a variation of this person's name and occupation are semi- or extended-protected which is why Ali Al Suleiman is requesting help from experienced editors to produce an article on him. All that he has tried to do is produce an article on himself or to add his credits to projects he says he has worked on. His SPI case is at Misplaced Pages:Sockpuppet investigations/علي أبو عمر. This has less to do with non-English sources and more to do with cross-wiki abuse. Here you will see a case page with over 200 sockpuppets listed. If this editor wanted to contribute to building Misplaced Pages and writing other articles, I might have some sympathy but as far as I've seen, he is only interested in self-promotion.

But I think your arguments wanting to help him show remarkable good faith on your part and I'm glad that you have this general attitude towards editors looking for help. Liz 23:57, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

@Liz: Thanks for the information, while I still think this is a well-intentioned editor who has gone about it all wrong and may not have the English capabilities to convey this or understand the consequences, well, after a few global blocks you work that out and explain it. Kingsif (talk) 11:47, 14 August 2021 (UTC)
@Liz: If you're interested, I got a related email from a new user called Hello I am Omar. Kingsif (talk) 13:53, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Yerilda Zapata

On 19 August 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Yerilda Zapata, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Yulimar Rojas is good at jumping, but her sister Yerilda Zapata is good at throwing? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Yerilda Zapata. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Yerilda Zapata), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

A barnstar for you!

The Special Barnstar
Because of your encouragement, Socrates Nelson is now a GA, and I'm considering further nominating it for FA status. Furthermore, because of you, I decided to try my hand at GA review, and I've since fully reviewed two articles. You being there as someone I knew I could come to for advice helped a lot. 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards

Regarding https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=72nd_Primetime_Emmy_Awards&diff=prev&oldid=979568299, you should make your remarks on the Talk page and not in the Edit summary. I'm sure you know that but just wanted to get it over with, but we need to have everything done according to Hoyle. Best wishes, BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 04:01, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

@Valereee: I've currently got email turned off due to receiving a lot of messages from a certain blocked puppetmaster, what's up? Kingsif (talk) 01:38, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
You'd mentioned a potential interest in RfA. I like to discuss this via email rather than in public. —valereee (talk) 12:36, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

WikiCup 2021 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished with over 500 points being required to qualify for the final round. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants, Botswana The Rambling Man and New York (state) Epicgenius, each scoring over 3000 points, and six contestants scoring over 1000. All but one of the finalists achieved one or more FAs during the round, the exception being Republic of Venice Bloom6132 who demonstrated that 61 "in the news" items produces an impressive number of points. Other contestants who made it to the final are Gog the Mild, England Lee Vilenski, Zulu (International Code of Signals) BennyOnTheLoose, Rwanda Amakuru and Hog Farm. However, all their points are now swept away and everyone starts afresh in the final round.

Round 4 saw the achievement of 18 featured articles and 157 good articles. George Floyd mural Bilorv scored for a 25-article good topic on Black Mirror but narrowly missed out on qualifying for the final round. There was enthusiasm for FARs, with 89 being performed, and there were 63 GARs and around 100 DYKs during the round. As we start round 5, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it to the final round; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Misplaced Pages, and we hope you will join us again next year. For other contestants, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.

If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. Reply-link officially superseded by DiscussionTools

Hi! Reply-link has officially been superseded by mw:DiscussionTools, which you can install using the "Discussion tools" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features. DiscussionTools, developed by the WMF's Editing Team, is faster and has more features than reply-link, and it wouldn't make sense for me to keep developing reply-link. I think the Editing Team is doing amazing work, and look forward to what they can do in the future. Thank you for using reply-link over the years! Enterprisey (talk!) 06:11, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
