Requesting Review

A page I created about a documentary that just premiered at Hot Docs (the largest documentary festival in North America) was moved to a draft because it needed more coverage. https://en.wikipedia.org/Draft:I%27m_Just_Here_for_the_Riot

The person who moved it may have indirectly been referring to Background which used a few older sources about the subject matter to add context, and not the documentary itself. These could be removed, thoughts? The article has been updated and contains sources from more prominent outlets, including Variety, The Athletic and ESPN, in addition to positive reviews from independent outlets.

Do you have thoughts on how to improve this so that it can freely move back to main page? Count3D (talk) 17:33, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello, @Count3D, and welcome to Misplaced Pages, the Free Encylopedia. It appears your draft has been moved to the mainspace. It can be viewed here. Sincerely, --AugustusAudax (talk|contribs) P.S: Aliens exist 12:24, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Chorus Line

While currently working on this article Chorus Line, I realized that I had been accessing it from my watchlist only. By accident I tried typing in "Chorus line" and it automatically brought me to A Chorus Line. Should the page "A Chorus Line" be re-titled to: "A Chorus Line (musical)" or should a disambiguation page be created or should a simple hatnote be placed?. For some reason, there is a redirect for "Chorus Line" to this page. Currently, the only way to find the Chorus Line article is to stumble across the "A Chorus Line" musical page and click on the WP link within the lede. I do not know which is the correct protocol here or the procedure. Any assistance would be helpful. Thanks. Maineartists (talk) 23:58, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

My personal opinion would be to change the redirect Chorus Line to Chorus line, and add a hatnote at A Chorus Line, but that's probably better discussed on both of those articles' talk pages. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 00:02, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
I would agree: "... but that's probably better discussed on both of those articles' talk pages" but there is absolutely no traffic on the "Chorus Line" Talk Page due to this situation. Thanks for your input. Maineartists (talk) 00:41, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

QUESTION: If I "redirect" CHORUS LINE to CHORUS LINE, will this bypass the actual article and simply bring readers to the redirect page itself? or will a WP search now bring them to the article? Wouldn't it be easier to simply delete the redirect page? Maineartists (talk) 00:49, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

I don't know if you can redirect a page to itself. The previous suggestion was to redirect Chorus Line (capital L) to Chorus line (lower case L). RudolfRed (talk) 01:08, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
RudolfRed Well. I just learned something about WP search: it is case sensitive. If I type in "Chorus line", it takes me to the page Chorus line. If I type in "Chorus Line", it takes me to the page A Chorus Line. If I just type in "chorus line" it takes me to Chorus line. I guess this was all for nothing. By typing in the "L" it brought me to a separate article. Thanks all. Maineartists (talk) 01:15, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
It's case sensitive except for the first letter of an article title, which is always capital. ColinFine (talk) 14:12, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Grammarly

So... I was wondering if you could use Grammarly to edit? If you don't know what Grammarly is, it's like a extension that gives you suggestions and help with your writing... I'm not sure if you can or can't. Can someone please answer? Thanks! PhilPhiladelphia (talk) 00:20, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

You can edit with most things as aid as long as you supervise them. This includes AIs and grammar editors. In fact, I have occasionally seen Grammarly be recommended in guidelines regarding copyediting. ✶Mitch199811 00:29, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
OH! Ok! Thank you! I'll use Grammarly then! PhilPhiladelphia (talk) 00:30, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Yeah! And in addition to copy-editing, you can join GOCE, a WikiProject where you can help with copy-editing! Tails Wx 00:31, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
PhilPhiladelphia, use of Grammarly to make suggestions for what you are writing at the time, evaluating each of these suggestions on its merits, adopting those that seem good: Possibly beneficial. Running articles written by other people and that seem OK, mindlessly adopting Grammarly's suggestions: Detrimental. -- Hoary (talk) 00:31, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Yeah... I've seen even GRAMMARLY ITSELF do a mistake while helping me with editing... PhilPhiladelphia (talk) 00:35, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
@PhilPhiladelphia One thing that you need to be very careful with when using automatic spelling/grammar checkers is WP:ENGVAR. Different articles will be written in different regional versions of English, and you should make sure you preserve the current version (MOS:RETAIN). 163.1.15.238 (talk) 11:23, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Ok! I'll be sure to be more careful/aware. PhilPhiladelphia (talk) 19:31, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
It's very important to closely check over edits made by grammarly, as I've seen many glaring mistakes (not only changes in spelling) when used as a substitute for an editor's own knowledge of grammar and their own attention to detail. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 11:28, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

WIKIPEDIA MAKES NO GUARANTEE OF VALIDITY

WIKIPEDIA MAKES NO GUARANTEE OF VALIDITY, but you have pages locked from editing. Just curious why you would have that feature? Vandalism? If you make no guarantee of validity then this feature should never have been implemented. 38.108.62.78 (talk) 04:00, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Creating new accounts to get multiple votes in an AFD

The creator of the article I nominated (also probably the subject of the article itself), is using multiple IPs and starting new accounts to protest Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Mindaugas Vaitkūnas. Surely this isnt allowed, but what do I do? Nswix (talk) 05:00, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

@Nswix: Please see WP:SPA. Most admins will detect this activity and avoid allowing it to influence the outcome of AfDs and other administrative discussions. General Ization 05:02, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
@Nswix: The result of an AfD is determined through a WP:CONSENUS established in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines, and not simply just counting votes. As mentioned above, most administrators are savvy enough to ignore attempts to flood an AfD with votes by creating multiple accounts, but you can add a template like Template:Not a ballot to the top of the AfD itself or a template like Template:spa after the signtaures of individual votes if you think there's clearly without a shadow of doubt some kind of improper voting going on. You just need to be cognizant of things like WP:ASPERSIONS and just don't start accusing everyone who disagrees with your vote or assessment as doing something improper. It's not totally unheard of for some new account to show up totally out of the blue and vote in an AfD, and that in and of itself doesn't make a vote improper. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:38, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
@Nswix: If you suspect someone of creating alternate accounts for that purpose, then go to WP:SPI and create a sockpuppet investigation case. Otherwise, just tag each single-purpose account singature in the AFD discussion with {{spa}}, to indicate that the comment is from a single-purpose account and can likely be safely ignored in evaluating the consensus. ~Anachronist (talk) 06:45, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Removing "Suggested Edits" Popup (Quick Start Tips)

Good morning (CST)! I was hoping to find out if it's possible to remove the "Suggested Edits" popup with "quick start tips" after clicking on a suggested edit from my home page. I can not seem to find it in the settings anywhere, and getting rid of it every time I click on a copy-edit is annoying. Thank you to anyone that can help! Mint (Q's?)(^_^) 05:50, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Paste this into Special:MyPage/common.css:

display: none;
}

That worked and I greatly appreciate your time and help! Thank you! Mint (Q's?)(^_^) 07:47, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Citation Search

How do I specifically search wiki pages specifically those that have cited with 'Kew Science Plants of the World Online'? BloxyColaSweet (talk) 06:55, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi BloxyColaSweet. Have you tried searching "Kew Science Plants of the World Online" in the "Search Misplaced Pages" field at the top of your browser? I did and I got 8,814 results? You could also to narrow things down a bit by searching "title = Kew Science Plants of the World Online", "work = Kew Science Plants of the World Online", "website = Kew Science Plants of the World Online" or "url = https://powo.science.kew.org/". -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:25, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Ill try, Thank you. BloxyColaSweet (talk) 08:11, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
@BloxyColaSweet I would recommend having a read of Help:Searching if you have the time. The search engine has all kinds of advanced features built into it like regex searches, category searches, link searches and template searches, all of which can be really useful for compiling lists of pages. Also Special:LinkSearch can be used to find all pages containing a specific external link. 163.1.15.238 (talk) 11:16, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Thank you IP user. BloxyColaSweet (talk) 23:36, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Practice Requests

What is a good way to practice editing sections that aren't in paragraph format? I've seen some graphs, bulleted lists, and tables that I noticed could use edits, but I'm not confident in my formatting abilities. I read the "Misplaced Pages:Graphs and charts" page and try to format similar to established text. Practice would let me apply them. I just want to be comfortable and confident making correct edits. Thank you! Ike8omb (talk) 07:32, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

You can try experimenting in WP:Sandbox, which is public, or here: Special:MyPage/sandbox, which is personal and will not be reset. You can copy and paste the graph code into the sandbox and practice editing it. Just make sure to say which article the graph comes from for copyright purposes. Cheers, Carpimaps (talk) 07:42, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
I didn't know about the sandbox! Thank you so much. Ike8omb (talk) 07:49, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Creation of a Misplaced Pages page for the company i work for

How to create a[REDACTED] page for the company i work for, including the pictures Bhavna Jeenia (talk) 07:46, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello Bhavna Jeenia. Because you are associated with the subject of the article, you have a WP:conflict of interest so you need to follow some additional rules. I recommend you read Misplaced Pages:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide. You can learn the basics of editing here: WP:Introduction. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask here! Carpimaps (talk) 07:52, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Bot posts on talk pages

What are the rules on removing bot posts from talk pages?? Govvy (talk) 07:52, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

There is a handy essay here: Misplaced Pages:Refactoring talk pages. If you believe that the bot post is not helpful in improving the article, feel free to delete it.
If you are talking about your own talk page, you can delete any post regardless of its content. Only thing that is prohibited from deletion is a block messages and block appeals. Carpimaps (talk) 07:57, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
I was more curious, as I myself find bot posts useful information, just earlier I saw someone's contrib which was basically removing bot posts from loads of different talk pages, so I was wondering why. Regards. Govvy (talk) 08:32, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Some bot-posts have outlived their usefulness, or are no longer supported by community consensus. It really depends on the situation. DMacks (talk) 14:27, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Photos

Are Photos on Getty Images considered copyrighted/licensed or can you upload them to Commons? Thanks!! The Capitalist forever (talk) 08:00, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

@The Capitalist forever Short version, no, longer version, Misplaced Pages:Media_copyright_questions/Archive/2023/February#Getty_Images. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:04, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip! The Capitalist forever (talk) 08:08, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello, The Capitalist forever. The large majority of the photos on Getty Images are restricted by copyright and cannot be used on Misplaced Pages. That company makes their money by licensing the images they control, and we cannot interfere with their business model. If you find an image there that was first published 95 years ago or longer in the U.S., then copyright has expired and the image can be used freely. This does not apply to the majority of newer images. Cullen328 (talk) 08:12, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Ok, that makes sense. Anyway, I just found the image from Commons that I needed. Thanks! The Capitalist forever (talk) 08:17, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Question

How much value does one edit make on the contribution of Misplaced Pages? BloxyColaSweet (talk) 08:22, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

@BloxyColaSweet Value in what sense? There is no organization that gives WP/WMF a certain sum every time an edit is made. It is possible that someone reads stuff on WP they like, and thinks "Hey, I'll donate a few dollars, WP is on the whole a good thing to have online." Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:19, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Value in a sense of how appreciated one small edit is. BloxyColaSweet (talk) 09:36, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Well, I have on occasion had a "X thanked you for your edit" for adding a comma, but appreciation for constructive edits is often general and silent. WP:s place at List of most visited websites can be seen as a sign of appreciation. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:51, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Every now and again, an editor, taken by one's contributions at Misplaced Pages may award one a barnstar in appreciation, and these can be copied and pasted from one's user talk page to one's user page. Other than that, editing offers intrinsic rewards. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 10:38, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Hello, Bloxy, and welcome to the Teahouse. The answer could be anything from a moderate positive to a substantial negative.
Obviously, vandalism edits are invariably negative in value. But my personal opinion is that adding unsourced information to an article is also of negative value, and there are some (usually old) articles that are unsourced and therefore of negative value to Misplaced Pages. (I don't think everybody agrees with me). ColinFine (talk) 14:22, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Sources

What are sources in[REDACTED] and how do they exactly work? Kushyark (talk) 10:35, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

@Kushyark There are a couple of meanings that are relevant for editing Misplaced Pages. A set of sources within its articles are the citations that allow readers to verify the content is not made up but comes from somewhere reliable. Look at all these pages I've linked for the details. One possible confusion is that we also talk about the "source editor" (e.g. this section has a link called "edit source" beside the title you added). That's because the software behind the editing system actually edits a special type of code called wikitext that allows all sorts of clever formatting. If you have further questions, ask them back here in this thread. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:08, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
How do I put a source (meaning as a citation) in an page? Kushyark (talk) 09:53, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
Hello, @Kushyark, and welcome to Misplaced Pages, the Free Encylcopedia. In the toolbar at the top of the visualeditor, you should see quotation marks (” Cite). Press that, then copy and paste the url or isbn of the source, press "generate", wait a few seconds, then press "insert". Make sure to press insert or it won't show up. Sincerely, --AugustusAudax (talk|contribs) P.S: Aliens exist 12:29, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
@Kushyark, welcome! See WP:RS about sources in general (context matters very much), and WP:TUTORIAL on how to add them (also known as references, citations or cites) to WP-articles. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:08, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Interactive maps

I have been working on rebuilding the Flemington Racecourse railway line and Williamstown railway line articles. Two requests for help:

  • The Flemington Racecourse article doesn't have an interactive map- can someone please create one and add it in?
  • Also, the Williamstown article does have an interactive map that is only partially showing. Can someone fix the map so that it extends all the way into the CBD?

I need these two requests to be fulfilled so I can nominate the two articles for Good Article status. Thanks in advance for all the help. HoHo3143 (talk) 11:51, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Both those articles have interactive route diagrams at the bottom of the infoboxes, but you need to click "show" to see them. Or am I missing something in your request? Shantavira| 12:04, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
@Shantavira an interactive map is like the one on the Sunbury line underneath the Route section. The one you are referring to is the route or track diagram. HoHo3143 (talk) 12:14, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi @HoHo3143, welcome to the Teahouse. In this case, the best place to find collaborators on article improvement would probably be Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Trains. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:54, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Another user has now fixed the Williamstown article interactive map so the only one needed now is the Flemington Racecourse. HoHo3143 (talk) 01:42, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
I've been able to figure out how to add in and fix the diagram. Thanks for the help that has been given.
Discussion now closed. HoHo3143 (talk) 06:25, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

t!warn Cog-san for angering the mods

can anyone warn people for non constructive edits (or vandalism, or blanking the teahouse over somewhat sexual content being allowed) or is it reserved to people who actually know what they're doing, like admins?

because if it's the former, i should probably try to learn how to use those templates with my own talk or sandbox pages cogsan (talk) 13:24, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Cog-san! Anyone can revert vandalism or non-constructive edits, and it isn't restricted or reserved to admins, it can be anyone to prevent disruption to Misplaced Pages! Tails Wx 13:32, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Anyone can warn anyone, and it is common practice to use WP:TWINKLE or WP:RW to warn vandals. One example is User talk:92.15.98.223. Using template warnings on a user you are having a disagreement with is often seen as rude.
To use those templates, you can do {{subst:Uw-vand1}} ~~~~ or the similar, the full list is at Template:Multi notice links. I highly recommend using WP:TWINKLE to speed up this process. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 13:33, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
finding twinkle is actually how i found out that the fabled warn and restore buttons actually exist lmao
i just needed to know in case i'd get warned myself for reckless warning cogsan (talk) 14:07, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
If you want to try it out, feel free to drop warnings at User talk:Sandbox for user warnings. DanCherek (talk) 14:13, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
...yeah, that probably beats warning myself for breaking the 3 revert rule on tcrf's article that one time because i didn't know i could just restore to a previous revision cogsan (talk) 14:16, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

grammatical errors

hiiiiii

https://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Akshay_Kumar_filmography&action=submit

this article has lots of grammatical errors and i am bad at fixing grammatical errors. :) Is there a place to nominate an article for bad grammar? please let me know thanks. Breckishere (talk) 13:31, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Place Template:Copy edit at the top, below the short description, to mark an article as needing copy edit. It does need some fixing, the italics are kind of broken. As above, I recommend installing WP:TWINKLE to simplify tagging of articles. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 13:39, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Cheers! Breckishere (talk) 13:55, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
That article has more issues than grammatical errors. Just casting an eye over it, it seems to read like a press release, with a few peacock terms scattered through it. Uporządnicki (talk) 14:46, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

How to change background colour of table cells in visual editor?

I'm using the "regular season" table from as a template for season results on another page. Cells denoting a win are coloured green, losses red, etc. Is there an easy way in visual editor to swap the background colour of cells that i've somehow missed or do I have to do them all manually in source? PhinsUp23 (talk) 13:51, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

@PhinsUp23 You cannot edit table background colours in the visual editor. A feature request for this, phab:T54180, has been open for almost 10 years. 163.1.15.238 (talk) 14:06, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

"You have switched your layout to full width."

Yes. I know. I did it on purpose.

Is there a way to turn this popup off? Or are people who prefer full-width doomed to be nagged about it every time we use the encyclopedia until we admit that we're wrong and the redesign team knows best?

The nag popup seems to reappear every time I open a new browser window. Closing only hides it for the duration of a single session.

Is there a "hide forever" button or setting that I've missed? Thanks. ApLundell (talk) 15:49, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi @ApLundell, welcome to the Teahouse. That might require some custom css - folks at WP:VPT are better at coming up with that sort of thing, if no one responds here. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 16:16, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Did they really deliberately implement a reminder popup that can't ever be turned off? That is terribly bad design.
I assumed it was either a glitch or I had some setting wrong. ApLundell (talk) 16:24, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
@ApLundell, I don't see any way to opt out listed here. I assume they just didn't think it was worth implementing an opt-out option for that specific feature. If you don't want to switch back to the legacy skin, a bit of custom css is probably the way to go. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 16:35, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Just to be clear, I'm not switching back and forth between full width and fixed width. I set it to fixed width months ago and left it there.
But recently, I've started getting a pop-up every. single. time. I look at the encyclopedia.
If that's deliberate, it's a very condescending thing to do. I'm hoping it's a glitch that can just be fixed. ApLundell (talk) 16:50, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I noticed that too, @ApLundell, but I don't think it's a glitch. Either way, the best place to report it would be WP:VPT - they can either make a phab ticket (if glitch) or whip up a way for you to stop it (if not glitch). Possibly they'll do both. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 16:55, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Ok. Will do. Thanks. ApLundell (talk) 23:56, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Notable Architects in Northeast USA

Hi there! We're attempting to outline prominent architects in Northeast USA, starting with the CT-based Charles Hilton Architects. We templated the article based on existing & approved contemporary architect Misplaced Pages submissions, leveraging the same/similar citations, formatting, etc. Our draft is still being declined. Please advise on what edits are required for approval! We're hoping to add 5 more in CT, then 5 in MA. 68.196.242.177 (talk) 16:24, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi and welcome to the Teahouse. Is this the draft, above? Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 16:28, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi IP editor. Can you explain who "we" is in your question above? Sometimes that implies a shared account, though it's not a problem here since you're editing from an IP; other times it implies a group of people working together who may have a conflict of interest (WP:COI), sometimes even paid editing (WP:PAID). If either of those is the case, you should review the pages I linked. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 16:43, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
As the reviewers have noted, the draft isn't neutrally worded, and a quick glance at the body shows stuff I'd expect to see in ad copy. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:43, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
@Tenryuu: The IP address is clearly the author of Draft:Charles Frederick Hilton III, editing while not logged in. That editor also uses "we" in a comment on their talk page. I have left a UPE warning. ~Anachronist (talk) 21:10, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
The author's (authors'?) interests aren't limited to architecture; they extend to a "product is marketed as a respiratory support for various uses including sports performance, altitude acclimation, and recovery from shortness of breath". Or more precisely (and surprisingly), they seem to be limited to this one architect (or his company) and this one product. -- Hoary (talk) 21:58, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi there! In addition to the suggestions above, I have a few. The draft states "The firm has been featured in a variety of publications..." I suggest removing that sentence, and instead using content from those publications (especially those that are independent sources and not interviews) to expand the article. Everything in the "Philanthropic Activities and Community Support" section needs a source or should be removed. The external links within the article should also be removed, per WP:EL. Multiple source sites

Sometimes an article or book can be found at more than one online site with the identical text (eg. JSTOR and Internet Archive) one of which may be easier for a reader to access than the other. Assuming it's OK to cite both should they be in the same citation?

When what were footnotes in the original source are at the end of the text in the other should they be in separate citations? Mcljlm (talk) 17:15, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Mcljlm, and welcome to the Teahouse. A citation should contain the bibliographic information that lets a reader evaluate the likely usefulness of the source, and obtain a copy if they wish: author, date, title, publisher, ISBN or DOI if they exist. If the source happens to be available online, then a link is a helpful addition, but not an essential part of the citation. It therefore makes sense to link to the most easily accessible place on the web.
I'm not sure what you're asking in the last paragraph: do you mean that you're citing something on a particular page and also something in a footnote, which appeared on a different page in that publication? In that case I suggest using {{rp}}. ColinFine (talk) 17:26, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
I'd like to add online sources to an existing citation @ColinFine:. I found the cited article both on its own at JSTOR and in a book of the author's articles at Internet Archive. Over the last year I've added many citations using Visual edit some mentioning the original source and JSTOR or the original source and IA but in this case I'd like to mention both JSTOR and IA. Is it technically possible to do that with Visual edit?
In this case JSTOR reproduces the original journal's pagination with footnotes on each page numbered 1-11, 1-5, 1-7, etc., while IA has different pagination, as part of the book, with the notes numbered in one sequence at the end of the article. The current citation doesn't mention the article author's source and footnote and I'm not intending to either. Mcljlm (talk) 19:44, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
Mcljlm, what's available to you or me at JSTOR won't be available to most people (unless they pay, which they won't want to do). But it will be available, and will be very easy to use, for people connected to any of very many universities, as well as other people besides. Meanwhile, what's available at the Internet Archive is in principle as easy for anyone to access as it is for you or me. However, perhaps you and they find looking at books at the IA as tiring to the eyes as I do; also, there are major efforts to end IA's system of "lending" its copies of books still in copyright. Therefore it seems to me that provision of links to both the JSTOR and the IA versions of a paper is worthwhile. No matter how you do this, the clutter will increase. However, few people seem to object to well-established (quasi-) bibliographical clutter. (As two examples: provision of ISSNs for such well-known periodicals as the NYT; providing "Cambridge" as the "location" of books published by Cambridge UP.) It's likely that you'll need two discrete references for what is, in your head or mine, a single reference: something as labored as <ref name="piketty21_paperA" />{{Rp|page=23}}<ref name="piketty21" />{{Rp|page=167}}. But tiresome as this is, it can easily be duplicated via copy-and-paste plus the "manual" adjustment of page numbers. ¶ Whether it's possible to do this with the "visual editor", I've no idea. I've heard enough about this way of editing WP that I've never had any desire to try it. Editing the source, with syntax highlighting, is good enough for me. -- Hoary (talk) 23:29, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Dewar's website.

Hello! I am planning on writing an article for the first time on a 114 year old ice cream company that is still running. I am questioning whether their website can be considered a source, as a part of the website details their history as a ice cream/candy shop. They consider that section of the website as a blog. I would like to know if it can be used in the article. Here's the website: [https://www.dewarscandy.com/our-history/ Thanks! The Capitalist forever (talk) 17:19, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi @The Capitalist forever, welcome to the Teahouse. An organization's own website is a self-published primary source. You can use it, but only to support very basic, non-controversial details, and it will not demonstrate the organization's notability. Most of the article should be based on independent, secondary, reliable sources, which do demonstrate notability. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 17:25, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
@The Capitalist forever: Welcome to the Teahouse. From what you're saying, the source in question could be used, but only as much as a primary source can be. It will not contribute towards establishing the subject's notability, which is what the encyclopedia is more concerned about. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 17:26, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Consider Changing Wikispecies

I was going to wikispecies for a project I'm working on when I noticed that it didn't give me descriptions of what each phyla, kingdom, domain, was characterized by. I think we should consider adding that to every page or at least linking it with the Misplaced Pages page. I believe this would greatly improve WikiSpecies and help a lot of people. I know that its a species directory but what good is it if you dont even put even the briefest description of them or we could even put links to their pages on[REDACTED] Ducklan (talk) 18:27, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Etiquette for removing posts from own talk page

What's the etiquette concerning removing posts from your own talk page? On the one hand, I feel like a person should have the power to control what's on their own talk page, but on the other, it seems like poor form to just remove any criticism from it. I don't mind valid criticism but I feel that I was falsely accused of making personal attacks and that's not something I would like to have on my talk page forever. Just curious how other editors feel about this. (You're welcome to look at my own talk page and Talk:Mattea Roach for the context of this question, but I would like to know for the general case.) How do I add userboxes to my user page?

Hi everyone, I want to know how I could put userboxes (like those things that tell who a person is) on my user page. I know there is a collection of all these userboxes somewhere, but I can't remember where it is.

Thanks, TrademarkedTarantula (talk) 01:19, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

See a userbox that you want; do as if to edit the page; copy the code; cancel the (non-) edit, paste the code in your user page. But few people are likely to pay attention to your collection of userboxes. Editing articles is a more productive use of your time. -- Hoary (talk) 01:24, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Rtrwilliam, first amass your sources, discarding any that are not reliable (as understood in Misplaced Pages) (NB unpublished letters and the like do not qualify); then decide if Galloway is notable (as understood in Misplaced Pages). If he is, then please gain experience improving existing Misplaced Pages articles. Once you've made a number of improvements that other editors have appreciated (and therefore proved to yourself that you know what you're doing here), create a draft about Galloway. When you're satisfied that it meets the relevant criteria, submit it as a candidate article. If it's OK, a reviewer will promote it to article status. -- Hoary (talk) 07:56, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello, if you are a friend of the person you are going write about, you should not edit the article of the person. This is because you have a WP:COI. Carpimaps (talk) 06:10, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello @Afroloader:, and welcome to the Teahouse! If you can not find reliable sources on the internet about your friend, he may not be notable enough to have a Misplaced Pages article on him. As for "where I can get a free reliable source", we can't make reliable sources for your article here. The sources must already be pre-existing on the internet. Good Luck and happy editing!

The Capitalist forever (talk) 05:16, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello @Afroloader:, and welcome to the Teahouse. See the Golden Rule and Help:Introduction to referencing/Reliable sources. Basically, you need to find reliable, independent sources that give the subject (your friend) significant coverage, not merely passing mentions. Sources could be, for example, notable web sites, newspapers, magazines, journals, books, radio or television shows (but not primary sources like their own web site, or unreliable sources like personal blogs or social media). And at a minimum you need maybe three reliable sources to establish basic notability. Hope that helps. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 06:12, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
@The Capitalist forever, existence on the internet is not a requirement for sources. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:23, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Oh I forgot that books work as sources too. The Capitalist forever (talk) 05:58, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Blogs such as Afroloaded (yours?) are not considered reliable source references to establish notability. Also, given that Brizzle Man is a friend, you need to declare your conflict of interest on your User page. See WP:COI for why. This does not prevent you from drafting and submitting an article. Overall, this may just be WP:TOOSOON. David notMD (talk) 15:14, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

AfD nominator withdraws: What now?

Hi, thanks to rescue efforts, the AfD nominator has withdrawn from the AfD/Charles Upton (poet). Do we just wait until the AfD times out after seven days, or is there anything else that needs to happen? Thanks. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 08:12, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Given that nobody else made comments in favor of deletion or regarding issues that would be best addressed in the AfD (such as a change of the page title), an WP:EARLY closure is appropriate. That can be done by anyone with a rationale of "nomination withdrawn" (including the nominator Jayron32, or people who commented in the AfD, regardless of admin status or involvement in the AfD). Restoring sourced content

This, removed sourced content - some incidents. Can I restore those (as I see a long list of, "Notable incidents" in the List of blasphemy cases in Pakistan article)? If not, why not?-1Firang (talk) 08:51, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Once I get a reply, please let me know how to get a "diff" of this reply to quote on the Talk page there.-1Firang (talk) 08:54, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
@1Firang: The diff you correctly linked, by Googleguy007, has an edit summary: Long bullet list of incidents serves no encyclopedic function. I find it persuasive.
The content might have been sourced, but collating together many instances that are separately sourced is synthesis. Synthesis is forbidden because it might create an impression of a large-scale trend by grouping separate random incidents, without attempting to establish whether those are isolated incidents or the symptoms of a large-scale trend (here’s an example that uses that technique to "demonstrate" that cardiologists are greedy surgeons and sexual predators using that technique).
You would do well to discuss on the article talk page rather than edit warring to reinstate the content. Tigraan 09:10, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Thanks; interesting, but I don't think that "recto" is helpful in this case. Maurice Magnus (talk) 12:20, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
From A Ride for Liberty – The Fugitive Slaves, about the version in the Brooklyn Museum: "The reverse side of the board bears Johnson's oil sketch of a scythe sharpening scene, also c.1862." Therefore recto is useful to indicate which of two works of art on the same board is intended, though in this case the title obviously refers to only one of the images, the other being a "scythe sharpening scene". -- Verbarson  edits 13:28, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
The contrast then is between "obverse" (front) and "reverse" (back). – .Raven  21:09, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
According to Wiktionary, recto (opposed to verso) is said to apply to any flat object, whereas obverse (opposed to reverse) is applied specifically to coins and medals. So recto is the more general term, and is used on the Brooklyn Museum's entry for this picture. -- Verbarson  edits 21:40, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Can Pinging on the talk page count as canvassing?

Hello! I recently got into a dispute with a user over whether or not another user was canvassing (if you want you can see context at this page), they claimed that the Improper Notification section of WP:CANVASSING doesnt apply to talk page pings, Im fairly confident this isnt true but was hoping a more experienced editor could help me understand whether or not it actually is true. Googleguy007 (talk) 13:40, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Looking at the context, the purpose of the pings don't fall under Improper Notification as this is a common practice within important talk page discussions and revert discussions. Hope this can clear it up a bit. FusionSub (talk) 13:58, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
Hello! I want to thank you sincerely for taking the time to respond, and I dont want to discredit you as an editor in general, but I wanted to ask if someone who is a little more experienced could take a look at this. Again I dont want to imply that you are somehow worse of an editor than someone more experienced, but given that this is a relatively tricky policy based issue and you only have 68 edits on enwiki I was hoping someone with a little more time here could review this. Googleguy007 (talk) 14:22, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
@Googleguy007 I've looked at the context and it appears that FusionSub is correct. They haven't been vote stacking (from what I can tell), they haven't been secretly sending messages, and while irrelevant I guess to whether or not they were canvassing, they told you that you could ping the users you wanted to bring into the discussion. So do not discount FusionSub's answer because they are an "inexperienced editor". If you were one, you wouldn't be asking here, right? Club On a Sub 20 (talk) 15:05, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
Im not trying to devalue him or attack him for being a newer editor, but I think its fair to request a second look. If a complicated RFC with a relatively close support:oppose ratio was closed by a user with 60 edits I dont think anyone would complain about asking for a close review from a more experienced editor. Googleguy007 (talk) 15:20, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
@Googleguy007, given the major deletions you made to Coerced religious conversion in Pakistan, which might be perceived by some as "brutal", shall we say, I think it's quite normal to have a "healthy discussion" on the talk page and for a few pings to be thrown around. because each wiki has different standards for an acceptable article. the english[REDACTED] is considerably more strict in sourcing than the german wikipedia. lettherebedarklight晚安 14:48, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi, MedicalCactus43 and welcome to the Teahouse. Yes, you can cite foreign-language sources. In your citations you can also use the trans-title parameter to also give an English translation of the foreign language title/headline, and also specify the two-character ISO 639-1 language code (eg de). Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 14:52, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
Many articles exist on English Misplaced Pages which don't meet our current standards. It's entirely possible that the same applies to German Misplaced Pages, and that the article shouldn't exist there either.
@MedicalCactus43, when you translate an article from one version of Misplaced Pages to another, you need to attribute the source article in order to meet our license requirements. See Help:Translation#License requirements. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 14:55, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
Also worth noting, MedicalCactus43, is that your draft was not rejected. Instead, it was declined, and will be reconsidered if you make significant improvements to the draft. Cullen328 (talk) 16:34, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
Hello, MedicalCactus. As others have said, you can certainly use German newspapers if there are not reliable sources in English. But like all sources, they need to be checked for reliability (not all newspapers are regarded as reliable) and independence (an article based on a press release or interview is generally not independent, and can be used as a source only in limited ways). ColinFine (talk) 20:40, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Would it be okay to edit this article?

This article here on a protozoan parasite of monarchs is of interest to me and I would like to know if I could have a "go ahead" to try adding some information. I have an image I would like to add, as well as some possible improvements to the scientific classification. It says "unranked" for two of the classifications. Any advice would be appreciated. Parameci (talk) 19:11, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

@Parameci: Welcome, and thanks for wanting to improve the article. You don't need permission to edit it. Be WP:BOLD and go ahead. If another editor disgrees with your changes, they will revert it and then you can discuss it on the article's talk page, see WP:BRD RudolfRed (talk) 19:22, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
@Parameci: Welcome to the Teahouse! Be sure that the text you add is accompanied by published reliable source(s). Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 19:23, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Is there a Notability standard for academic journal articles (or, which notability standard should apply)?

WP:NBOOK? I note that there are 35 articles in the Category:Academic_journal_articles but there are likely thousands of articles on books. There is a somewhat applicable-sounding notability entry for WP:WEBCRIT. ---Avatar317 00:19, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

@Avatar317: See Misplaced Pages:Notability_(academic_journals) RudolfRed (talk) 00:24, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, but that is for academic JOURNALS, not for determining whether ONE SPECIFIC ARTICLE in such journal would be considered notable. ---Avatar317 00:31, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
For topics in the medical/health fields, see WP:MEDRS. Briefly, reviews, systematic reviews and meta-analyses needed. Not individual clinical trials, animal or in vitro refs. Also, be wary or 'predatory' journals, as quality often questionable. David notMD (talk) 11:24, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
That's about whether a source is considered reliable though, not about whether the source itself is notable. Cordless Larry (talk) 11:26, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
@Avatar317 I think it is inherently unlikely that an individual article would be notable because by the general notability guidelines (linked) that would imply it had been discussed in secondary sources just like a book might be. However, it is not impossible that an article had not just been cited by others but had been hailed as "the best current review of..." or similar. To give more advice, we would need to know which article you mean and what secondary, reliable sources you suggest could be used to show notability. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:37, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
There are some articles about individual journal articles categorised at Category:Academic journal articles (from a brief browse, some look questionable from a notability perspective). Cordless Larry (talk) 13:38, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

The specific article/paper being discussed is: Stochastic parrot about the journal article 'On the Dangers of Stochastic Parrots: Can Language Models Be Too Big?' by Timnit Gebru (et al) for which I started a deletion discussion here: WP:Articles for deletion/Stochastic parrot, where someone recommended I ask here (at Teahouse).

I have published well over 300 articles and wish to add a page about myself (not-self serving)

I am a bit confused, who would want to write an article about a published author with the detail that we have about our life, unless I myself start the basic outline of the page myself. I am rather well known the healthcare space and have a mission to help all underserved patients get screened for cancer and hope that this page will help us improve the odds of that happening.

Thoughts on how to ensure my Jonathan Govette page is not taken down? Jonathan Govette (talk) 00:27, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

@Jonathan Govette AI: See WP:BACKWARD. It doesn't matter what you know about yourself. More broadly, it doesn't matter if you have expertise in a subject. You cannot write what you know, you must write what reliable independent sources say about you. If by "300 articles" you mean scholarly journal articles, then see WP:NACADEMIC for some additional notability criteria.
If you want to write an article about yourself, the only venue we have for someone with a conflict of interest to write an article is WP:AFC. Go there, follow the instructions, submit your article for review, and do not even consider putting it in article space yourself. Let others decide. ~Anachronist (talk) 00:31, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
@Jonathan Govette AI you seem like you're doing well in your career, but this page really comes off as self serving. It's good you declared it as otherwise it would be against the rules to write about yourself.
My recommendation would be to let others write your article for you. Experienced editors will be able to get an encyclopedic tone better. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 03:31, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Providing reliable sources like news articles will help. Ideally ones like Reuters or AP or CNN rather than smaller ones. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (talk to the cutest Wikipedian) 03:33, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for the information, how do I work with you to help?

And how do we get others to write about me so we can spread the word and help underrepresented patients get screened for cancer?

Jonathan Govette. (2023, May 13). In Misplaced Pages. https://en.wikipedia.org/Jonathan_Govette

I would love to learn more as I am a brand new writer for wiki and would love to contribute more often.

@Jonathan Govette AI: I have moved your article to draft space, at Draft:Jonathan Govette. What you did there was wrong. You have a conflict of interest. You don't write in article space about topics with which you have a conflict of interest. And once your draft is approved for publication, you cannot edit it, you must propose any substantive changes on the article's talk page.
I am also concerned about your username. Did an AI write that article? If so, then we have an attribution problem that violates the Wikimedia Foundation's licensing.
You also have a serious misunderstanding of the purpose of Misplaced Pages. Misplaced Pages isn't for "spreading the word". Misplaced Pages must not be used for publicity purposes, ever. That is a violation of a core policy. ~Anachronist (talk) 00:39, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
OMG, you claim this isn't "self-serving"?? This is why we discourage people from writing about themselves. Unsubstantiated puffery like "seasoned executive", "proven track record", "deep understanding", "numerous accolades", and a mission statement, are something one would find in a marketing brochure, not an encyclopedia article. If I hadn't moved it to draft space, it would have been deleted as being unambiguously promotional.
Poor sources too. See Misplaced Pages:Golden rule to learn what is expected. ~Anachronist (talk) 00:46, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

this is my first time using wiki, I would appreciate education, not OMG statements. Is this how you incentivize people to offer support?

The OMG statement was due to the blatant falsehood in the subject line of this conversation. I have offered you an education. It starts with reading the documents I linked, and there are several. After that, you should improve the draft with what you learned from those documents and submit it for review. The next move is yours, not anyone else's. ~Anachronist (talk) 00:51, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Also, @Jonathan Govette AI: You have not addressed the earlier question about who actually wrote that article. If an AI wrote it, it isn't surprising that it doesn't meet basic standards here. ~Anachronist (talk) 02:21, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Besides WP:OR and WP:PUFFERY, way more citations are needed. Also, refrain from using external links in the body. I think due to their connection to you they would be best to be unlinked until someone independent wants to write an article about you. If you want to link them, put them in there own section. Also you might want to read WP:PROUD. ✶Mitch199811 01:59, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
ALso, is this you? Because if it is we're probably going to include something about it. Herostratus (talk) 05:49, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Some clarification may help here. For "we're probably going to include something about it", read "if there were an article, we'd probably include something about it". I don't think that Herostratus or anyone else is advocating the creation of an article devoted to this one matter. But yes, if there is to be an article, then this can include whatever is reliably referenced, whether or not it is welcome to the person who originally created the article. -- Hoary (talk) 07:07, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Jonathan Govette AI, you present yourself as an intelligent and perceptive person. If that is the case, then deal with this reality: First of all, you are trying to promote yourself on Misplaced Pages. Secondly, self promotion is forbidden on Misplaced Pages. You can resolve this contradiction one of two ways. First, you can stop trying to promote yourself, and work to improve articles where you do not have a glaring Conflict of interest. Second, you can continue with COI editing, and get blocked. The choice is yours. Cullen328 (talk) 06:10, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Jonathan Govette AI, I would definitely read What Misplaced Pages is not, as the article to me looks like a cross between a résumé and an advert, especially with promotional external links that should not be in the body of the article. Find reliable sources and add content that reflects what it says in those sources, not the other way around. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 11:14, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
All significant, and especially controversial, statements of fact need to be covered by reliable sources, though some basic things can sometimes be covered by primary sources, if done sparingly and very carefully. See Misplaced Pages:BLPPRIMARY. Esowteric + Talk + Breadcrumbs 11:30, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
I cut a lot of the promotional crap, but this still needs work, and not yet clear that the person (you) has the notability to justify an article. David notMD (talk) 11:47, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
A general point, is that if you succeed in having this draft accepted, you do not own it. What happened at ReferralMD, i.e., you being forced out as CEO, sued by the company (2019) that lawsuit dropped (2021 see https://news.bloomberglaw.com/esg/referralmd-drops-lawsuit-over-former-ceos-financial-stewardship as a potential ref), your countersuit, etc., would be valid content even if you did not want it in the article. Who owns content on LinkedIn?

Relevant to the section above, I notice that Draft:Jonathan Govette is a verbatim copy of that person's LinkedIn profile, including the picture. I couldn't figure out who owns that content, but it would make sense for the creator of the content to own it. ~Anachronist (talk) 02:49, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Trying to replace a photo

Hi. I'm trying to replace the photo on this page (https://en.wikipedia.org/Everything_but_the_Girl) with a more recent one that I took. I've uploaded the more recent photo here (https://commons.wikimedia.org/File:Everything_But_The_Girl.jpg) but unknowingly used the same naming convention as the existing photo. I'm not sure how to replace the original photo with this new one, or perhaps change the file name of the photo I uploaded. Any help greatly appreacited. Thank you in advance. Edwardmbishop (talk) 10:13, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Er, what? Edwardmbishop, in Unix, and thence the web, filenames are case sensitive; and the filename of c:File:Everything But The Girl.jpg (your photo) differs from that of c:File:Everything but the Girl.jpg (the previous photo). What's the problem? -- Hoary (talk) 11:06, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Bonnie Wright actress Irish heritage

Can I link You Tube video with her saying her maternal grandmother was from County Tipperary. 109.78.111.100 (talk) 10:57, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

It depends on who made the YouTube video. If the YouTube channel who made the video is a reliable source(like CNN), it can be cited. However, if the facts in the video comes from an unreliable source, it cannot be cited. This is especially important in biographies of living persons. An exception to this is if Wright created the video herself. It would be helpful to have a link the the videos you are trying to cite so editors here can judge its reliability. Thanks, Maproom. That works for me, too, from read mode. @Hardipsinhjadeja1: There is no such thing as an "ownership right" on an article. Furthermore, the draft for the other article existed already when you created your draft. You should have collaborated on the other one instead of creating a new draft. ~Anachronist (talk) 15:07, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Specifically, Ponniyin Selvan: II was created 2022-12-28T17:03:47 by User:MNWiki845, and Draft:Ponniyin Selvan 2 was created 2023-02-24T09:49:59 by User:Hardipsinhjadeja1, so MNWiki845's article is circa three months older than Hardipsinhjadeja1's. —Wasell 🌻🇺🇦 15:21, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Probably not, but first read WP:NSCHOOL and WP:YFA and then decide whether that would be appropriate. Shantavira| 16:04, 13 May 2023 (UTC)
Shantavira has good information specific to your topic and writing an article for it. The direct answer to your question itself is that it's totally okay for some to have an article on a specific topic that others don't have. Each language's Misplaced Pages site has its own rules, and very few editors are active on more than one of them. Because each site is independent. And even if a topic is suitable for many sites, some site has to be the first where someone writes it. DMacks (talk) 18:27, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Creating articles

Hi, I'm a new Misplaced Pages writer. I have a question about the conflict of interest policy. If I'm an editor for a scholarly journal and would like to create a new page for the journal, am I permitted to create it? If not, how does one go about finding someone to create it instead?

Thank you! RDSJ2 (talk) 18:25, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello, RDSJ2. There is a procedure for editors with a conflict of interest to draft articles and it is called Articles for Creation. Start your userpage by clicking on your red signature. Disclose your conflict of interest there. Review Misplaced Pages:Notability (academic journals), and if you believe that your journal meets that guideline, write your draft. It will be reviewed by an experienced, uninvolved editor. Follow the Neutral point of view carefully. That's the policy that is most challenging for editors with a conflict of interest. Covering a sub-topic which already has it's own wiki

I'm attempting to make the Contingency (philosophy) wiki into a Good Article. According to our shared criteria, this involves covering all the major aspects (see criteria 3). Concerning Contingency (philosophy), one of its major aspects is the Problem of future contingents which maintains its own wiki. So to what extent should I cover the Problem of future contingents on the general Contingency page?

Thanks for any advice!
